The Chairman of Ikosi/Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Abdulfatai Oyesanya has said his administration will continue to impact positively on the lives of people at the grassroots.
The council chief, who spoke during the presentation of food items, toiletries and basic household needs to the Love Home Orphanage, Lagos said the gesture was part of activities to mark his birthday.
Oyesanya added that the council would give out N20, 000 to 40 people as part of poverty alleviation programmes, noting that the gesture was aimed at enhancing the well-being of the beneficiaries.
He added that government was equally giving out money to 140 aged people who were 65 years and above in the council, noting that most the beneficiaries could no longer afford basic needs.
Oyesanya urged public-spirited individuals to support the elderly who were now at the mercy of the larger society.
He said: “We have just made donation of bags of food items, toiletries and other basic items to take care of the needs of these less privileged people at the orphanage.
“This is my little way of showing gratitude to God for keeping me alive. I thank the Almighty God because every source of life belongs to him. Incidentally, I share the same birthday with one of my children, hence the family is here with me at the orphanage.”
Oyesanya explained that the council would continue to do its best for the people in view of the need to ensure that the people at the grassroots are carried along in government’s activities.
He said it is in view of the enormous responsibilities expected from government that the council is giving out cars to the council’s supervisors to enable them to discharge their duties without hindrance.
“The car distribution to the supervisors is coming as a coincidence with my birthday. That notwithstanding, we thank God that all is done to appreciate God and serve humanity better.”
