Council chief hailed over projects

Councillors in Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State have praised the Executive Chairman, Alhaji Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi, for embarking on people-oriented projects and programmes.

The Leader of the council’s legislative house, Hon. Muyideen Kola Anigbajumo, recently led his colleagues, including Hon. Nojeemdeen Oloruntoyin, Hon. Hassan Ala, Hon. Folarin Abiodun and Hon. Rasheedat Shalewa on an oversight visit to ongoing and completed projects of the council captured in either the 2018 or the proposed 2019 budgets.

The legislators, who have received the proposed 2019 budget inspected roads, schools and other projects, including the sinking of 11 boreholes and 11 power generating sets across the seven wards in the council area.

Also inspected were newly constructed classrooms and toilets at three public primary schools, namely Oduduwa Primary School, State Primary School and Salvation Army Primary School.

Other projects inspected during the tour were eight newly constructed roads with street lights at Union Road, Majoro, Oba Mero, Alagbigba, Taiwo Dada and Shodipo streets and the interlocking stone paving of Sani Omomeji Street and five others.

In a chat with reporters who accompanied them on the visit, Anigbajumo, representing Ward F said the tour was in fulfilment of the councillors’ oversight functions and to ensure that tax payers’ money are judiciously spent on projects for which it was meant for.

The leader added that they embarked on inspection of the various projects in order to foster transparency and assuage public’s distrust of government at the local level.

He said: “This is part of our oversight functions and we are glad to have carried out the exercise. It availed us the opportunity to assess first-hand the projects captured in the outgone year’s budget with the view to make a meaningful contribution to the proposed 2019 budget before us.

“By and large, having gone round and conversant with the state of disrepair of these facilities prior to 2018, we are satisfied with what is currently on the ground and commend the council government under the leadership of Alhaji Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi for a job well done.”

Also in the inspection team were Engr. Balogun Rasak and Special Adviser on Media to the council chairman, Mr. Rotimi Sulyman, among others.
