The League of Former Lagos State Local Government Chairmen has hailed Governor Babatunde Sanwo-Olu for his laudable achievements in the last 365 days in the office.

The group said the governor has been able to convince Lagosians that he is up to the task despite inheriting huge uncompleted projects with the paucity of funds.

Chairman of the group, Abiodun Mafe in a statement, said the ravaging Coronavirus pandemic came at a period the state government was trying to manage the resources at its disposal to address the monumental projects that were urgently begging for attention.

“Despite these challenges, Governor Sanwo-Olu’s spirited efforts at managing the COVID-19 outbreak viz-a-viz continuous development of various infrastructure in the state is commendable. He did not allow the pandemic to debar him from focussing on his projects.

Even when he declared that some levels of staff should stay away from the office, governance never stopped. We saw how he constantly held virtual meetings with his cabinet members.

The virtual meeting was extended to the traditional rulers and council chairmen. We must note that this was a good initiative,” he said.

Mafe said Governor Sanwo-Olu should be commended for not abandoning projects that were not completed by his predecessor.

“The governor’s urgent action on roads rehabilitation including the Lagos-Badagry Expressway immediately after he assumed office has reduced the burden of motorists.

The BRT lane that stretches from Oshodi to Abule-Egba is as good as ready for use. His plan to reduce the traffic through the waterways is impressive.

Lagosians have never been short-changed by headship of the state since Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu became the governor and Governor Sanwo-Olu is another shining example for other governors to emulate,” he said.

The group urged Lagosians to take advantage the recently completed housing projects.

According to them, the creation of more Islands by the government to address the deficit of housing in the state was a good initiative.

“We learnt last week that the state government is exploring the Public-Private Partnership to create Islands in the state. This would go a long way to reduce the shortage of housing for habitation.”
