A construction firm, China Harbour Engineering Company Nigeria, has said it set up a testing laboratory at its camp in Imo State to ensure that construction materials are of the best quality.

The Project Manager, Mr Feng Yu, said stones, stone-base, asphalt and others are tested and weighed to determine their quality.

Also in the camp is a machine to fine-tune different types of stones for different construction segments.

The firm is currently handling a 22.2-kilometre construction of the Mother and Child (former New Market) end of Douglas Road down to the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO).

It is also reconstructing a bridge that connects Ihiagwa to Obinze.

Yu said the Hope Uzodinma administration has remained steadfast in its effort to deliver quality roads, bridges and culverts to the state.

He praised the governor and his deputy for their commitment to quality infrastructure.

He told reporters: “We test all the materials to determine their quality because we work with the best quality materials.

“So far we have done 25 per cent of the whole contract. The roads will last for more than 20 years if they are properly used and maintained.

“Our relationship with the state government is very cordial. The government has given us a very conducive atmosphere to operate. We have no fear of revocation of our contract because we are doing our work according to the specifications.

“Those who may have fear of revocation are those who, at the change of government, abandoned their projects.

“As for us, you can see we are very much on the ground. We spent a lot of money to put up our construction camp because we want to build a good synergy with Imo people,” Lu said.

CHEC, which has been operating in Nigeria since 1994, is a major investor and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor of the Lekki Deep Seaport project.

The firm is handling the expansion of 5.4km of Abuja-Keffi Expressway and the dualisation of Keffi-Akwanga-Lafia-Makurdi road project.

It is also handling the trestle construction, trench dredging and backfilling project for Dangote Oil Refining Company.
