SHERI Care (SCARF), a foundation that cares for the vulnerable, has donated food packs to over 7,000 households.

President of SCARF Alhaja Sherifah Aregbesola said the non-governmental organisation (NGO) was easing the burden of vulnerable households.

The foundation, she said, provide food to reduce the burden on economically distressed Nigerians on this coronavirus-induced lockdown.

The food items include semolina, wheat, packs of macaroni, spaghetti and noodles.

Alhaja Aregbesola said the first round of distribution for 3,000 was sponsored by her family.

“It was during the first round of distribution that we realised the need to increase the scope, hence the extension of appeal to our friends and others. Alhamdulillah, they responded well. We set out a target of N25 million and over 80 per cent …was realised in less than two weeks.

‘’ …we have done 7,000 households for the people in Alimosho in Lagos State, Ilesa in Osun and Ijagbo, Kwara State. Our target is 10,000 households,” she said.

The SCARF president said vulnerable households were the worse hit by the lockdown.

Their breadwinners, being wage earners, lacked any support during the period. It was harrowing for them.

“They were not prepared for the impact of this pandemic; we saw it as an opportunity for the privileged to support the needy. They deserve our support to weather these very hard times. SCARF looks forward to supporting more communities and households, riding on donations from privileged and compassionate Nigerians,” she said.

Alhaja Aregbesola thanked those who donated, saying: “Together we can support more vulnerable communities and households …”
