The Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Mr. Babatunde Irukera, has said health care service providers who violate the Patient’s Bill of Rights will be prosecuted.
He urged stakeholders to ensure implementation of the Act, to save lives.
Irukera said it is regrettable that more people have died due to lack of quick response to emergency cases than from diseases.
He spoke yesterday in Lagos at a public inquiry on the possible violation(s) of consumer/patient rights under the FCCPC Act, the National Health Act, any prevailing police or other law enforcement protocols, regulations, directives or guidelines and sundry enactments/guidelines.

Irukera said the way and manner most emergency cases were being handled had been responsible for the deaths or unamendable injury caused to people’s loved ones.
Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo said there are legislations in place to address the problems.
He said that there was no justification for any victim to be denied access to medical care when needed, especially when such a victim was in a vulnerable state.
