Gunmen open fire on market, kill three in Imo

Gunmen have attacked a market in Anara in Isiala Mbano council of Imo State, killing three persons and wounding more.

The incident took place about 10pm on Tuesday, it was learnt.

An eyewitness said the hoodlums in a white Sienna vehicle stormed the market and opened fire.

“As they arrived at the market, they just opened fire and killed three people and several others were wounded,” the eyewitness said.

“Nobody knows why they attacked the market; they arrived and started shooting at the people, people scampered for safety, some people fell on top of each other.”

Police spokesman Michael Abattam confirmed the incident, saying an investigation had begun, while patrol have been sent to the area.

“We are on top of the situation. Apart from the investigative team, we have pushed in more patrol teams in the area.”
