How to ensure credible APC Congress in Ekiti, by ex-lawmaker

Former House of Representatives member Oyetunde Ojo yesterday urged the National Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure credible congresses in Ekiti State.

He said some forces were planning to manipulate the congress, urging the national leadership to forestall the rancour and threats to democracy.

However, Ekiti APC Caretaker Committee Secretary, Ade Ajayi, denied the allegation, saying that there was no manipulative agenda.

Ojo said the Ekiti State APC caretaker committee has begun the compilation of names of preferred officials at the ward to state levels in an attempt to impose party leaders and frustrate the congresses.

He alleged that  the state caretaker committee has also directed that all ward meetings and such other party gatherings be stopped forthwith to block dissents from raising objections, so it could coast home with the names of its loyalists for the congresses.

The former legislator, who viewed the action as undemocratic and a wrong step, said it could lead the party to a deep ocean of litigations, reminiscent of what later birthed the current caretaker regime in the APC.

Ojo added: “We are aware that there is a directive to all wards to compile lists of party representatives from wards to local government level and these have been forwarded to the committee for imposition in the coming congresses.”
