N5.7b SURE-P fund: Court adjourns Shema’s case till March 26

THE Federal High Court in Katsina on Wednesday adjourned the trial of former Governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema and the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged misappropriation of N5.7 billion SURE-P fund till March 12 and 13 for the continuation of the trial.

The court was presided over by Justice Hadiza Rabiu Shagari.

The prosecution counsel, U. I. Uket, got the dates to enable him prepare well for the matter.

During cross-examination, an EFCC witness, Nasiru Salisu Ingawa, told the court that he did not have any evidence that he collected money from SURE-P’s Director of Finance, Abdulazees Shinkafi, to give Shema.

He said all the money he listed in his statements was withdrawn from the bank by Shinkafi and given to him to convey to the defendant.

But when the defendant’s lawyer Sebastian Tar (SAN) asked him about the evidence to prove his allegation, Ingawa said: “No, I don’t have any.”

When the defence counsel also asked if he had any evidence or document to show he took any money to the defendant, the witness said: “No, I don’t have.”

During the last sitting of the court, Ingawa had told the court that he had no document or evidence to substantiate his claim against Shema.
