The Niger State Civil Service Commission has forcibly retired 380 civil servants who fraudulently altered their dates of birth or date of the first appointment.
Out of the 374 civil servants dismissed, 46 members of staff were found to have violated the extant rules of the civil service while 328 were said to have been involved in certificate racketeering.
The Chairman of the Niger State Civil Service Commission, Alhaji Shehu Yusuf Galadima disclosed this during a chat with reporters in Minna, the state capital.
According to him, a medical doctor, 31 members of staff of the Pension Board, five accountants, two health workers and four ICT personnel were among those dismissed.
Galadima further explained that the dismissed members of staff were among the kingpins in the cartel that prepare death certificates for anonymous people, issue notifications that people are dead and they end up collecting the gratuity of these people to share among themselves.
He said those who were dismissed in the ICT sector were found to have padded salaries, adding that a Director and some senior members of staff were among them.
He further said others who were found to be involved in minor roles were downgraded in positions.
The Civil Service Commission Chairman further disclosed that 328 personnel were dismissed from service after the commission undertook a forensic examination of all certificates pledged by personnel during their interview for their respective jobs.
He added that the institutions the members of staff claimed to have attended declared their claims as forgeries.
The Chairman stated that the state government has introduced promotion examinations for members of staff who are eligible for the promotion.
According to him, this is critical in order to ensure that only capable and qualified personnel get promotions from one level to another.
