SIR: I read with nauseous disgust the statement attributed to Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi by Sam Omatseye in his back page column Monday March 9 titled Adams or Leave. “Adams does not have the temperament to run a party,” Fayemi was quoted to have said at Senator Abiola Ajimobi’s 70th birthday. Omatseye further wrote about how the governor of Ekiti State defended his politics of treachery and betrayal of not being about the 2023 presidency. It is shocking that Fayemi could so condemn Oshiomhole as he is well known for not having the temperament for correction and the truth. In Ekiti where he is the governor, the APC is at best a severed head mouthing incomprehensibles. One of his lackeys, Paul Omotoso, a man who exudes neither confidence nor conviction is the figurehead-chairman of the party while Fayemi roars daily like a Goliath that must not be challenged.
The primaries into various positions in the 2019 elections in the state were testament to Fayemi’s undemocratic credentials and the smelly spit he daily draws on the Awolowo cap that he dons as part of his disguise. National Assembly aspirants like Bimbo Daramola and Segun Osikolu were locked up on the day of primaries while Fayemi’s lackeys concocted results of elections that never held. Heavens and Ekiti residents can also bear witness to how he won the Ekiti 2018 governorship election with the help of security agencies. Had Buhari allowed Fayemi to go into that contest based on his non-existent popularity, he would have been crushed like a fold of paper in the hands of Ayo Fayose, a man who added more value to Ekiti in terms of infrastructure than Fayemi would probably ever add in his lifetime.
Nearly every notable politician in Ekiti State can tell one story or the other about Fayemi’s betrayal; the list is as long as the years of betrayal and treachery in Fayemi’s kitty. He demands nothing less than loyalty, but he is only loyal to those ahead of him when he is still enjoying benefits from them.
The truth is that Fayemi is never loyal to any cause or person; what has always driven him is self-interest. He would not blink before trading friendship or tribe to achieve this. In his self-destructive bloodthirsty ambition to become president or vice president, no ideal matters, even if it means destroying the APC; all is fair in war to Fayemi, the so-called Doctor of War Studies.
Fayemi should stop in his tracks for a moment and ask himself if he could allow anyone push him around as he and his fellow anti-Oshiomhole travellers would want to do to the APC national chairman.
Fayemi junkets around, expending time and resources that should have been channeled into bringing succour to Ekiti people on chasing vanity. In almost two years of his second term, the civic centre he started in his first term is still uncompleted. The same fate has befallen the Oba Adejugbe General Hospital and the Oja Oba market started by Segun Oni and Ayodele Fayose respectively. Ekiti roads have gone from bad to worse and Fayemi who cannot turn around the fortunes of Ekiti for good now sees himself as the messiah that Nigeria awaits. What a man of contradictions!
The only visible project to his name, in almost two years, is the new Ado-Iyin road which completion continues to suffer delay.
I see that Kayode Fayemi has got to that point in life where all arrogant men usually fall. He revels in his newfound “national prominence” and concludes that his “time” has finally come, while in fact unable to read time and seasons and forgetting that “To ascend the mountain, we must descend to our knees” in the words of Craig D. Lounsbrough.
He should know that he is writing his history already and history has a way of representing the treacherous.
- Oluwasegun Esan, Ado-Ekiti.
