Osun State Government has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has moved governance from the centre to over 1,000 communities.
It said this is to deliver democracy dividends to residents.
The Civic Engagement Office of Governor Oyetola said the gap between the government and the people had been bridged within one year.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Civic Engagement, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, said at a news conference to commemorate their first year in office that the current administration appointed him on July 23, 2020 to carve a niche for itself in the areas of inclusive and participatory governance, through routine engagements with the people, which had not only made the democratic credentials of his administration to wax stronger, but also endeared him more to the masses.
“In the last one year, the Osun Civic Engagement Office, as first of its kind in the history of the state, has succeeded in achieving a lot in the area of bridging the gap between the government and the people through a number of engagement drives, resting on the interface with strategic groups, communities and individuals to form public opinions, which will help the government to formulate and implement policies that truly represent the actual needs and aspirations of the people.
“We have taken governance from the centre to communities. With our outreach programmes, we have reached over 1,000 communities in the state with one year. Government shouldn’t be about the centre alone. Our programmes have helped in engaging and enlightening residents. “
“We have embarked on an aggressive campaign to social, religious, commercial and some other strategic gatherings where information can easily be disseminated to a large audience. Market/park and religious houses’ sensitisation has been designed to campaign against issues of endemic diseases, child abuse, genital mutilation, gender-based violence, drug abuse, thuggery/hooliganism and cultism,” he said.
