Teach our rulers to love the country
Beyond the profit and pleasure of Power
Teach them all
The sacred difference
Between their private trove
And the public till
Open their eyes
As they speed through the streets
To the crushing crowds of beggars
And the desperate jobless with vacant looks
Tilt their ears to the rat-tat-tat
Of angry guns night and day
The kidnap squad and their ransom racket
That murder our peace and joy of being
Show our rulers the mortal link
Between their thieving and our grieving nation
The death and disease which parade our land
The un-punished crimes of the High ‘n Mighty
Spirit of Love, spirit of Justice
Teach our rulers how to lead and follow
Teach the ruled
How to follow by leading
