    Shooting Stars Sports Club has been plunged into mourning following the tragic death of newly appointed Assistant Coach, Akin Olowookere.

    Olowookere, who was officially unveiled just three days prior, reportedly collapsed during a training session in preparation for the team’s second pre-season match against Abia Warriors.

    Despite swift efforts to transport him to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

    His unexpected passing has sent shockwaves through the club and the Nigerian football community at large.

    Tributes and messages of condolence have continued to pour in, as players, fans, and colleagues express their sorrow and extend support to his grieving family during this profoundly difficult time.

    3SC assistant coach, Akin Olowokere, reportedly slumps, dies during training

    The new assistant coach of Shooting Stars Sports Club, otherwise known as 3SC, Ibadan, Akin Olowokere, on Monday morning, reportedly slumped and died.

    The Nation gathered that Olowokere slumped on the pitch during the team’s Monday morning training session and was rushed to the hospital.

    A source who wished to remain anonymous said, “He was confirmed dead at the hospital where he was rushed to.

    It was further gathered that the former Sunshine Stars of Akure player and later tactician went down while in action, attracting medical attention immediately, after which he was rushed to an undisclosed hospital.

    The deceased was recently unveiled as one of the coaches of the Oluyole Warriors after the club parted ways with the Gbenga Ogunbote-led coaching crew.

    The soft-spoken gaffer was for years a regular player with his state club, Sunshine Stars of Akure, before taking up a coaching job.

    He recently served as an assistant coach with the club under head coach Edith Agoye.

    New boss Salami vows to turnaround 3SC

    The newly appointed Chairman of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, Honourable Taiwo Lekan Salami, has assured of a massive facelift for the Oluyole Warriors.

    The Sports administrator cum business mogul  gave this assurance during his first official meeting with members of the management team and staff at the club’s Jericho office.

    Salami, took time to hold discussions with members of the management team, and as well sought the current situation of the club, with a view to actualising his vision.

    “I am delighted to be here and I want to assure you that there will be massive changes, both within the office and on the field,” he said.

    The 3SC helmsman, accompanied by Engineer Sheriff, was welcome by members of the management team, which includes the General Manager, Dimeji Lawal, the Director of Finance and Administration (DFA), Mrs Abiodun Oyeyemi, the Administrative Secretary, Babayemi Akintomiwa and the Technical Adviser, Coach Gbenga Ogunbote, as well as the staff of the club.

    In-form Shooting Stars  Sports Club (3SC)  of Ibadan will be eager to trim Remo Stars’ lead at the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League table to five points when they face Kwara United tomorrow in a rescheduled Matchday 20 tie.

    This would  happen if 3SC secure the maximum points in the encounter at the main bowl of the Rashid Yekini Stadium, Ilorin.

    3SC  managed to beat Kwara United 1-0 in the reverse fixture last December but they will be up against the Harmony Boys who are desirous of the three points to move to the top half of the table having got beaten 2-1 in Lagos by Ikorodu City last weekend.

    The Oluyole Warriors are second in the league with 40 points, eight points behind log leaders Remo Stars but have played a game less than the Sky Blue Stars.

    3SC  goes  into tomorrow’s  tie having ended the seven game unbeaten streak of Bendel Insurance on Sunday with a 1-0 victory courtesy of Godwin Odibo’s strike to make it seven wins and a draw in their last eight games.

    Shooting Stars have recorded two wins and a draw in their last three away games conceding just one goal in the process and will be looking to take the form to Ilorin to face Kwara United.

    The Supporters Club of the Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, has held its annual pre-season prayers ahead of the 2023/24 NPFL season which commences today, as the Oluyole Warriors tackle Plateau United.

    The well attended meeting saw prayers being offered for the team’s success in this season’s campaign

    Christian and Muslim clerics anchored the prayer sessions at the programme held at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba.

    The Supporters Club used the occasion in honouring the Executive Chairman of the 3SC, Honourable Babatunde Olaniyan Akoro, the Acting General Manager cum Team Manager, Dimeji Lawal, Technical Adviser, Gbenga Ogunbote, Honourable Gbenga Adewusi Arole and the chairman, Sports Writers’ Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Oyo State chapter, Niyi Alebiosu.

    Present at the event were the executives and members of the Supporters Club, including the Chairman, 3SC Supporters Club, Mr Femi Ajala, Chairman, Oyo State General Sports Supporters’ Club, Mr Femi Oyeniyi and others.

    The 3SC contingent at the prayer meeting included, the Executive Chairman, Honourable Babatunde Olaniyan Akoro, the acting GM/TM, Dimeji Lawal, Technical Adviser of the club, Gbenga Ogunbote, the club’s Administrative Officer, Mr Babayemi A.T, and other members of the technical crew, backroom staff and the players among others.

    Ogunbote vows to fix  3SC’s scoring problem

    Technical Adviser of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC,) of Ibadan, Gbenga Ogunbote, has promised to work on the grey areas noticed in his team.

    Speaking after the team was held to a goalless draw by Sporting Lagos, in a pre-season friendly tie played at the Lekan Salami Stadium yesterday, the 3SC gaffer, identified poor marksmanship as the major undoing of his team.

    “This is one of our pre-season games. It has ended in a goalless draw, but we will take the positives from the game and make corrections where necessary.

    “The good thing is that we were able to create a lot of chances in the game but we didn’t convert any of them, the only one we converted did not count.

    “It calls for worry but all things being equal, it is just a matter of getting it right”, said the former Rangers International tactician, who however, expressed his team’s readiness for a good campaign in the 2023/24 season.

    He commended the fans of the club for coming out to watch the encounter, in spite of the timing, promising not to disappoint them.

    “It is good for us to see a large number of our fans out here, we know we have a large fan base and by his grace, we will not disappoint them.

    They came here to see us play, and despite the fact that it was a barren draw, yet, you can see the satisfaction in their faces, and it tells you that the team didn’t do badly, except for the fact that we had no goal to show for it,” stated coach Ogunbote.

  • Bendel Insurance, 3SC meet again today

    The crucial match between Bendel Insurance and the 3SC was postponed after first half of the game following a heavy downpour of rain. The remaining 45 minutes will be played this morning at 9am.

    Political leaders in Edo State from both the Peoples Democratic Party and the ruling All Progressives Congress had shunned their differences to cheer the Bendel Insurance team to victory.

    Among those present were Governor Godwin Obaseki, Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, Hon Ogbeide Ihama, Dennis Idahosa, General Charles Airhiavbere (rtd), members of the State Executive Council amongst others.

    The visiting 3SC team is leading by one goal which was scored by Isaka Mutiu at the second minute of play on Sunday afternoon. At the start of the second half, weather became cloudy and visibility at the UNIBEN Sports complex was poor.

    After consultations, the match officials decided to postpone the match to Monday November 5.

    Commenting on match, Oyo State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Yomi Oke, expressed confidence that the 3SC would defeat the home team. He said the pitch was not good enough for optimal performance of his team.

    Shooting Stars forwards, Ajani Ibrahim and Sunday Faleye who were unable to take part in yesterday’s  practice sessions will still be monitored closely ahead of Sunday’s league tie with ABS.

    Ajani, SportingLife was informed, skipped the training owing to malaria while Faleye who is yet to hit the ground running in the second round of the league was also rested from the session due to headache.

    SportingLife was told that both players will be assessed by the Oluyole Warriors‘ medics if they are fit enough to train today but that they are still being looked upon to feature for 3SC this weekend in their must win league tie with ABS.

    But, Olabisi Samuel, a defender with the Oluyole Warriors, is a major doubt ahead of the weekend crunch tie due to an undisclosed ailment.

    Shooting Stars’ Adamu Abubakar is anticipating Sunday’s Nigerian topflight tie against MFM FC to be tough.

    “We know we have a massive task in front of us. It doesn’t matter who you are playing in this situation,” Abubakar told Goal.

    “[Playing MFM] is a great motivation because teams in the bottom three have picked up points against teams nobody expected.

    “The key is that we focus on what is right in front of us. If you start looking ahead, you lose focus and by tomorrow you then think ‘we could have done better’, ‘we could have gotten something out of this game’, because you lost focus.”

    Ishaq back for 3SC after NPFL All Stars exploits

    Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) forward, Rafiu Kayode Ishaq has returned to the Oluyole Warriors after his experience with the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Under-17 All-Stars team at the just concluded Future Champions Gaunteng International Tournament in South Africa.

    The 16 year old played all the games except final where the Coach Austin Eguavoen-led team were beaten 2-1 by Spanish club Atletico Madrid, having received a red card in the 3-0 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi final.

    The highly rated player who featured six times for the Ibadan-based clubside before being called to the All Stars team is now expected to feature in the NPFL matchday 17 fixture away to Akwa United on Sunday.

    The Abraysports Academy player, who is on loan to Shooting Stars and has been courted by European clubs, said his main focus is helping 3SC secure a comfortable finish this season.

    “All glory belongs to Almighty God for the journey mercies and injury-free tournament. Also I have to thank the League Management Company ( LMC) for giving us the opportunity to showcase our talents outside the country, it was a huge experience for me in particular.

    “Right now I only want to concentrate on my football at Shooting Stars. We are not in good position and the team is worried about that. My focus now is to help the team secure a top place finish at the end of the season. I’m not in a rush for any foreign deal now, Europe move will come later,” Ishaq said.
