Blame away losses on injured players

3SC of Ibadan have blamed injuries to their key players for their inability to pick points in the road this season.

The Oluyole Warriors have been awesome in their home fixtures with impressive wins over Gombe United, Wikki Tourists, Lobi Stars and Akwa United, but have lost all their three away ties till date.

A top official of the club emphasised that the club is working on their road games’ free fall, and that with some of their injured defenders returning to training one after the other, the Ibadan-based team would soon turn the corner away from home.

“We have not been fortunate with injuries this season. We had more than half of our top defenders down with injuries and some others in other key departments.

“We don’t have problems with the players we have signed because they have all proved to be good investments, but injuries and minor knocks which are part of the game are the sole reason we have not picked any point on the road.

“We are seriously working on it and very soon we shall get our desired result,” he said.

3SC are in 4th position with 12 points from seven games and are four points from the summit of the league. They are behind Nasarawa United, Rangers and Pillars.

1,000 fans get free tickets to watch 3SC

Fans of Ibadan darling team 3SC are relishing the 1,000 match tickets freely given out at the entry point of the Lekan Salami Sports Complex at every home match via the good gesture of Ibadan South/West Local Government Caretaker Chairman, Hon. Taoreed Adeleke.

The fans that enjoyed the promotion in the week 3 fixtures of the Nigerian Premier League where the Oluyole Warriors hosted Lobi Stars of Markurdi, were full of gratitude to the council boss and called on other well-meaning 3SC fans to emulate the gesture.

The fully packed Lekan Salami Stadium was ecstatic when 3SC recorded an emphatic 3-1 victory over their visitors on Sunday with goals coming from Gbolahan Salami, 42nd minute, Tony Edjomerigwe, 75th and Moses Ogaga, 79th while Chimaobi Nwoguo scored the only goal for Lobi Stars in the 43rd minute.

Speaking after the match, the council boss said he always felt bad coming to the stadium and seeing empty stands, compared to the past when people had to arrive at the stadium three hours before the match to secure sitting space to watch Shooting Stars.

“The idea is paying off as you can see the stadium is fully packed now. I consider this as my own contribution towards the effort of this administration in returning the club back to its glorious status”, Adeleke noted.

  • 3SC sanction Asuquo

Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, 3SC have slammed a query on midfielder Philip Asuquo after leaving the team’s camp for three months.

Asuquo, however, returned to the Ibadan-based club on Thursday and the management of the club are now ready to make him pay for his truancy.

A top official of the club confirmed to supersport.com that the club learned that the midfielder went to Turkey for trials without the club’s permission.

“He must be punished and for now I cannot tell you what would be his punishment but he would not be pardoned. He told us that he was going for a burial since last year December only for him to return yesterday (Thursday) as he could not be reached through any means since he left.

“We were later told that he travelled to Turkey for trials which means he lied to us and we would not take it easy with him,” the official angrily revealed to supersport.com on Friday.

It is now certain that the former Kwara United man will miss 3SC’s opening game at home against Gombe United on Sunday.

    Adepoju: I left 3SC a sad man

FORMER 3SC General Manager Mutiu Adepoju has stated that he was disappointed to have quit the four-time Nigerian champions declaring he left the club a sad man.

Adepoju’s four-year reign as the supremo of the Oluyole Warriors experienced series of battles which reached a boiling point at a period when he was reportedly sacked only for news to resurface that he is back at the club which puts him on a win-and-get-paid condition.

“I came to Shooting Stars with a big dream; to get the club to the top position which they are known for but so many things which i can not say on air hindered my plan. It was very painful and I have to leave the club in disappointment; I left there a sad man.”

He however, backed the club to make an appreciable impact next season declaring that the club would have finished in a more respectable position were it not for the effect of the last-minute expulsion of Ocean Boys’ which scuttled the club’s outside chance of earning a continental ticket.

Ogunbote, Lam Adesina deny 3SC move

COACH Gbenga Ogunbote as well as Oyo commissioner Dapo Lam Adesina have dismissed reports linking the ex-Sunshine Stars coach to 3SC.

The experienced handler told MTNFootball.com that he has not discussed with anyone as regards teaming up with Shooting Stars for the coming season. He said: “I have not discussed joining Shooting Stars with anyone. Last season, I discussed this with the commissioner (Dapo Lam Adesina).

“I do not have an agent, and if there is anyone claiming to be representing me, that would be an impersonation. All what is now being said are just lies.”

Oyo State sports commissioner Lam Adesina also collaborated Ogunbote’s position. “I have not spoken to Ogunbote for the past six, seven months now. And when we spoke then it was to do with the coaching job at 3SC just as I spoke to other coaches like Fatai Amoo and Alphonsus Dike,” Adesina said.

“The two coaches we have now are doing a good job and we do not need to change a winning team. I will stand by them until they prove me otherwise.” He added: “We know the mischief makers behind all these, but we will not be detracted from taking Shooting Stars back to where they rightly belong.”

Ogunbote equally maintained his pedigree as a coach did not start and will not end with Sunshine Stars. “I made my name at NEPA and Gateway even before I moved to Sunshine. The records are there for anyone to see,” he said.

“My achievements have been through dint of hard work and dedication, and it will continue to be so.”

A section of the Shooting Stars has kicked against the coming of the coach who led Sunshine to the semi-finals of this year’s CAF Champions League, insisting caretaker coaches Tunde Odubola and Hakeem Busari be allowed to continue for the forthcoming season.
