3SC are getting nothing from us, says Wolves’ Eyimofe

Warri Wolves believe their relegation worries will be almost over after their Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) week 36 game with Shooting Stars.

Wolves currently occupy 16th spot with 39 points from 33 matches in the top tier division.

Joseph Eyimofe told Goal that the Oluyole Warriors should forget about replicating the feat they achieved when they beat Enugu Rangers in their last league outing.

“Victory on Sunday will give us some consistency for the table and in our play,” Eyimofe told Goal.

“We know it won’t be an easy match. Shooting Stars defend well, but I’m sure we would manage to win. This means that everyone should be at alert when hostilities start. Shooting Stars defeated Rangers but we are a different side. They should forget about getting something from us,” he concluded.

  • Rangers, a team we know well, says 3SC’s Ajani

Rangers, a team we know well, says 3SC’s Ajani

Shooting Stars winger Ibrahim Ajani believes his side’s knowledge of Enugu Rangers will help them overcome the league leaders in their Nigeria Professional Football League Match Day 35 fixture at the weekend at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.

“It is easy to lose to a team you don’t know, than to a team you know very well. Rangers are a team we know so well, we know how they play, so whatever strategy they bring, we will play it down,” Ajani told Goal.

“Our major concern is how to make them not to fly past us and that means beating them in front of our supportive fans. They are the leaders of the table and also they want to win the title. But that doesn’t concern us, what matters is our own ambition which is to survive,” he concluded.

The Oluyole Warriors are 14th position on the table, and a win will brighten their chances of staying in the top tier division at the end of the campaign.

3SC VS RANGERS: it’s fight to the finish – Fabiyi

Shooting Stars goalkeeper Emmanuel Fabiyi will give everything to upset league leaders Rangers in Ibadan on Saturday so as to stay clear of relegation.

Rangers are top of the table with 54 points from 32 matches, while 3SC are 14th on the table with 41 points, just three points outside the relegation bracket.

Benin Republic international goalkeeper Fabiyi said 3SC were not happy with their position and so they would go all out to beat Rangers.

“It is going to be a tough game,” declared Fabiyi.

“We have been preparing for the game since the first leg in Enugu because we know the fight is not yet over. Now our position on the league table is not comfortable we need all the points in this game.

“It’s going to be a football war, a do-or-die game for us.”

  • Ikorodu, 3SC game abandoned due to crowd trouble

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) MatchDay 29 match between Ikorodu United and 3SC held at the Onikan Stadium yesterday was abandoned in the 89th minute following  trouble caused by fans.

The irate fans suspected to be supporting the home team began to throw objects on the pitch and at match officials after Shooting Stars striker, Ajani Ibrahim equalised for the away team in the 89th minute of the game.

Chinedu Onyekwu had given the Oga Boys the lead on the 25th minute  and the home fans were hoping to get their first win in the second round before Ibrahim dented their hope of survival in the elite division.

The equaliser was however a bitter pill for the fans to swallow as they accused the centre referee and his assistants of bias officiating, denying them penalty calls.

The home fans then started throwing stones and other dangerous objects onto the pitch, while they also attacked the supposed supporters of the away team who also retaliated in their own might.

The referee then ordered the players off the pitch and into the dressing rooms for 30 minutes before ultimately deciding to call off the game after speaking with representatives from both clubs.

Followers of the Nigerian league however blamed the match commissioner for allowing the game to go ahead without the availability of 50 policemen as stipulated by the rules and regulations governing the Nigeria league.

Rivers Utd coach warns team against 3SC

Rivers United coach, Stanley Eguma has warned his team that there will be no margin for error when they come up against Shooting Stars in a Round of 16 Federation Cup tie in Kaduna  today.

Rivers United defeated Papilo FC 4-3 in Uyo in the round of 64 of the Federation Cup, before putting paid to the ambitions of Nigeria National League (NNL) club, Kaduna United in Makurdi in the round of 32 with a 4-0 bashing.

United and 3SC go toe-to-toe at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna in the stand-out tie of the round as the two Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) clubs go in search of a quarterfinal ticket.

Eguma said he is looking forward to the game and predicts that concentration levels amongst his players will be at  a very high level.

“It is another big game (for us because) Shooting Stars is another big name in Nigerian football. We cannot underestimate their strength. They may not be in a very good position in the NPFL but the Federation Cup is a different ball game entirely,” he said.

“That is the reason why we have to be very well prepared and work above our capacity so that victory and nothing else comes our way. It will not be easy playing in (an unfamiliar terrain – Kaduna). We have to quickly adapt to the weather conditions up north but I hope we will be ready for it. In the Federation Cup, you cannot make a mistake,” he said.

  • 3sc’s Izu dashes Nasarawa’s hope

    3sc’s Izu dashes Nasarawa’s hope

Shooting Stars’ Izu Joseph pulled a last minute trick to dash Nasarawa United’s hope of picking a point from Ibadan in their Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match day 26 clash at the Lekan Salami Stadium.

The visitors had showed promise of pulling an upset as Abdulrahman Bashir fired in the 18th minute and stood firm for the whole of the first period, keeping the hosts on disadvantage into the break.

Shooting Stars, however, found their feet in the 61st minute as Ibrahim Salau was fouled in the box and Ebiaku Promise calmly converted the resulting penalty to get even.

With the fans showing desperation, 3SC made quick substitutions, replacing Olabisi Samuel with Izu Joseph in the 74th minute but Nasarawa replied with Bature Yaro in for Abdulrahman Bashir as both teams remained squared into regulation time and Nasarawa looking like getting away with a point.

With six minutes added, it all looked difficult for Shooting Stars but their pressure produced a last minute corner from which Izu Joseph sneaked in to tap home from the resulting goal mouth struggle, providing 3SC the winner at 2-1.

    Thugs disrupt MFM,3SC game

Thugs yesterday disrupted the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) MatchDay 23 match between MFM FC and 3SC at the Agege Stadium for about 10 minutes.

The hoodlums, who were captured on camera bare chested, accused the centre referee and his assistants of bias right from the first half.

SportingLife gathered that the irate fans obviously supporting the home team, felt that the referee should have awarded MFM one or two penalties in the game.

However, matters got worse in the 82nd minute after Shooting Stars scored through Ebitimi Agogu who was making his debut for the Oluyole Warriors.

The thugs forced their way into the pitch to beat up the referee before the timely intervention of NFF president,Amaju Pinnick and security men brought the situation under control.

The match eventually continued and ended under a tense atmosphere with the two teams waiting for more than 30 minutes at the stadium after the final whistle for the angry mob to disperse.

  • Ogunbote returns 3SC to winning ways

Ogunbote returns 3SC to winning ways

Coach Gbenga Ogunbote returned to Shooting Stars in fine style when he led the team to only their sixth win of the season as they dumped Akwa United 3-0 on Sunday.

A brace from Adetunji Sunday and a goal from Ajani Ibrahim were enough to see Ogunbote start his second spell in Ibadan with an emphatic win.

The Oluyole Warriors showed their intent as early as the 12th minute, when left-back Yinka Adedeji let fly a thunderous effort from range, which could have given them the lead, but forced a fantastic save from United goalkeeper, Akpan Bassey.

But it didn’t take long however, for Shooting to go in front, as Ajani Ibrahim’s sublime cross was met by Adetunji Ibrahim, who powered home a beautiful header past the stranded Bassey for their opening goal.

United were not without chances of their own, but nothing came of them, as Shooting Stars remained resolute in their determination to stem their slide on the table.

And shortly before the break, Ajani Ibrahim turned from provider to goal-scorer as he finished off a delightful move from the home side to send their fans to wild eruption, and also maintain their advantage as they went into the break.

United must have hoped to start the second half with a goal to half the deficit, but they got a yellow card instead when goalkeeper Bassey was cautioned for what he said to the referee.

And on the hour mark, the Oluyole Warriors  scored again – Adetunji Sunday nicely controlled a pass, went past some United defenders before toe-poking into the goal for his brace and Shooting’s third goal.
