Tinubu’s visit to Nasarawa a testament to progress, federal-state collaboration — Sule

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has described the planned visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the state on Wednesday, June 25, as a clear endorsement of the state’s developmental strides and a reflection of strong collaboration between the federal and state governments.

Speaking during an interactive session with journalists over the weekend, Governor Sule said the visit marked a defining moment for Nasarawa, as President Tinubu is expected to commission several landmark projects.

Among the projects scheduled for commissioning are the newly completed State Secretariat Complex, a flyover and underpass, and the dualized 5-kilometer Shendam Road in Lafia, all of which the governor said underscore his administration’s commitment to infrastructure, development, and the Renewed Hope Agenda.

In a related development, the immediate past state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Francis Orogu, also lauded Governor Sule for his efforts in transforming Nasarawa State.

Speaking during a visit to the Managing Director of the Nasarawa Urban Development Board (NUDB), Engr. Wada Yahaya, Orogu acknowledged the visible progress the state has made in recent years, describing the number of projects set for inauguration as both commendable and heartwarming.

Benue Killings: Sule tasks traditional rulers to protect border areas

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule has tasked traditional rulers in local government areas in the state sharing border with Benue communities to ensure the full protection of border areas against invasion by herdsmen.

Sule stated this weekend during an emergency security meeting with all traditional rulers in the state, as part of his measures to curtail security challenges and avoid escalation of the crisis in Benue.

“The reason I am reporting this is that I am going to rely on you, especially our royal fathers at the borders. You are more familiar with these issues than I am. I said before that these issues were there long before I became Governor, not even before I was born. I will plead with you, Osuko of Obi, Andoma of Doma, Osana of Keana, and the Sarkin Giza, to support me towards resolving this dispute.

“My role as Governor is to try and see how they continue to live in peace and unity. I have come and met these people who have been living for generations before me. They were living for generations before I was even born. I am not the one to create any tension between them.

“I think this support that you continue to give is adding so much value to our state, and it is also making our state extremely attractive. Constantly, I am receiving diplomats. This morning, I received two requests, one from the Ambassador of Angola, who wanted to visit us to discuss prospects, opportunities, and investments in our state.

“The other one is the Nigerian/Israeli chamber, which has shown great interest in coming to Nasarawa State to explore opportunities in mining and agriculture. All these are happening because of your support and kind words, your prayers.” he said.

  • Nasarawa not involved in Benue killings – Sule

Nasarawa not involved in Benue killings – Sule

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule said the state has no hand in the ongoing killings of innocent people in Benue State.

Governor Sule, in a statement on Wednesday in Lafia signed by his senior special assistant on public affairs, Peter Ahemba, dismissed the allegations by the immediate past member of the House of Representatives from Benue State, Hon. Mark Gbillah, that Nasarawa State harbours those killing Benue farmers.

The former lawmaker, while featuring on an African Independent Television (AIT) discussion programme recently, made several malicious statements, alleging that bandits attacking communities in Benue State were being harboured in Nasarawa State.

The statement read: “It is on record that the Nasarawa State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule has remained consistent in building synergy with neighbouring states, particularly Benue, to enhance peace and address common security challenges confronting the States and beyond.

“As Governor of Nasarawa State and Chairman of the North-Central Governors Forum, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule has not only demonstrated the State’s solidarity with the Government and people of Benue State over the unfortunate killings but has also been leading collaborative efforts with security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to address the security challenges confronting the region.

“Just recently, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, concerned by the rising wave of insecurity in the region, convened a meeting of the North-Central Governors Forum with all the Governors of the region, including the Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, in attendance. The Governor also participated in other top-level security meetings with his colleagues, all intending to find ways of tackling security challenges in the region.

“With this demonstrated solidarity for the people of Benue and other neighbouring states being confronted with security challenges in the region and the concerted efforts by Governor Sule towards addressing same, how could Nasarawa State under his headship be harbouring bandits to attack Benue or any neighbouring State as the former lawmaker wants members of the public to believe?

“The allegations by Hon. Gbilah are therefore a malicious attempt to tarnish the image of the State and disrupt the inter-state relationship between Nasarawa and Benue States. As a former National Assembly member, Hon. Gbilah is advised to see himself as a stakeholder in the peace and security project and desist from fanning the embers of discord capable of igniting tension between the two states,” the statement added.

He called on people to disregard the false narratives from the former lawmaker and instead focus on promoting unity and cooperation among communities, adding that Governor Sule remains committed to maintaining peace and security within the borders and sustaining effective collaboration with neighbouring states to address common challenges.

Sule: Six years of transformative governance in Nasarawa

In the last six years, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has ran an all inclusive government devoid of politics to develop the State through the deployment of scarce and prudent spending, reports LINUS OOTA.

Before the ascension of Deng Xiaoping to power, China was a closed economy with the State in control of all productive assets. But when Xiaoping became the paramount ruler in 1978, he came up with an economic liberation policy that freed industrial enterprises from the control and supervision of the government.

He allowed factory managers to determine production levels and pursue profits for their enterprises. He also opened up Chinese companies to foreign investments. Xiaoping encourage free enterprise by allowing individual Chinese to make personal economic decisions.

He similarly supported the acquisition of skills and promoted technical education. This resulted in the production of skilled, well educated technicians and managers who spearheaded China’s economic development. Today, China is not just the world’s second largest economy after the USA, it is also world’s fastest growing major economy, with growth rates averaging 10 percent over a period of 30 years.

So prosperous has China become that it was able to move 800 million people out of poverty between 1978 and 2008. But all these feats are a consequence one thing, Xiaoping’s policy to liberalize the Chinese economy. Though Xiaoping died in 1997, the transformative power of his economic liberalization policy is still very much alive.

Six years after his election as Nasarawa State Governor, Engr Abdullahi Sule has proved that the people of the State who elected him as Governor have not made a mistake, as he has worked extremely over hard to transform Nasarawa State, for six years.

The results of his dedicated work on the state is the success of the various reforms, the myriad of projects, and the affection of the common people, concrete evidence that indeed he gave the Job his all in the last six years, which has led to the birth of a modern Nasarawa State.

Governor Sule on assumption of office in 2019, had no option but to administer the very painful but difficult decisions so as to improve the quality of life of the people of Nasarawa State. Central to Abdullahi Sule’s politics are the people, from the onset, he took decision to complete all ongoing projects and abandoned projects while initiating new ones to all sectors of the State economy.

Sule’s campaign slogan “industralising Nasarawa to build an economy that will take youths off the streets” , is a reflection of that genuine commitment, to improving the welfare of the people.

This explains why in the last six years, there is no sector that Governor Sule’s transformative leadership hasn’t fundamentally impacted. It has been breathtaking. And there are no signs, Engr Sule, is about to slow down as he definitely wants to maintain that momentum and finish strong.

He had told some former commissioners recently that he would want his remaining two years to be the most productive years

According the Governor, his administration has two years more to be able to demonstrate its performance.

“We have roughly two good years to operate. I want to make sure that these two years that we are running are some of the most productive two years that we ever had in this our administration,” he said.

He said that explains why he gave the contractor handling the construction of the multi billion naira new state secretariat complex a dateline to complete the project, not only the first phase that has been completed but the second phase also.

This is just as he emphasized that his administration will work very hard to ensure that revenue is generated in order to implement the budget, especially that the State has the largest budget ever in the history of the State, estimated at over N384bn.

“The budget that we have now is N384bn. I came into the state when the total budget was around N90bn. That was, on average. Now, we have a budget that is big enough to cover the entire four years. I know for Nasarawa State that it is a huge budget. We need to get up. We need to work as a people for the implementation of that budget. Budget is both ways, the right side and the left side, the input and the output.  We have to work very hard to ensure that the revenue comes in for us to expend,” he stated.

He however expressed satisfaction that the state is beginning to witness better revenue, and that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is determined to turn around the economy of the country.

“We are beginning to get commendations from outside the state. I am not worried about the one you get from within the state because they said a prophet is not honoured in his home. We have two years to be able to show our performance, to set certain records. I’m happy that all of you came. I am happy with all your kind comments. I don’t want to leave quietly. I want to leave with a bang, with a record that somebody is coming to follow up,” he said.

Governor Sule had in the last two years of his second term embarked on several landmark projects that have significantly altered the state’s infrastructural landscape, particularly in the capital city of Lafia.

Without infrastural facilities, there can’t be sustainable economic development, for the overall improvement of the living condition of the people. To make the state competitive, and preferred business destination, Governor Sule embarked on an aggressive urban renewal programme.

Notable projects include the N16 billion Lafia Flyover and Underpass, the Lafia Modern Secretariat Complex, and the 7-kilometer Shendam Road dualization.

These projects have generated excitement among the citizens of Nasarawa State, and the new network of roads as well as the flyover has eased traffic congestion and opened new layouts.

Other notable projects include the Akwanga City Underpass, the 3.5-kilometer dualization, and the Ntsakpe-Mada Hills bypass, aimed at reducing traffic congestion in the city center.

Additionally, the contract award for the construction of the Keffi Flyover is a testament to the Governor’s commitment to development and addressing a perennial accident at the popular Total round about in Keffi.

The six years old administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule has shown strong determination to take youths out of the streets since available white-collar jobs can no longer cater for the number of job seekers in the country. This calls for a means of engaging the younger generation in skill acquisition training in the vocation of their choice for both personal or commercial benefits.

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state in fulfillment of this demand took far reaching measures on various entrepreneurship training offered by his administration.

The Governor is determined to create a society where youths will be self reliant with relevant skills in order to bridge the unemployment and innovative gap in youth productivity thereby making them gainfully employed.

The Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim Vocational and Technology Institute established by Governor Abdullahi Sule offers entrepreneurship skills development such as, tailoring, mechanical engineering, solar panels system installations, wielding and several other skills that will help take the youths off the street.

Speaking exclusively to our correspondent on the idea behind the establishment of the Skills Acquisition Center, Governor Abdullahi Sule said, as a trained engineer who has strong believe in education for self reliance, the vision for the technical institute is all encompassing.

First, this institute is expected to impact necessary technical skills on the youths, as well as graduates of universities and polytechnics from other fields of study, who will be trained to become self reliance.

Secondly, the institute will be employed by factories that will spring up across the state. Thirdly, the manufacturing spare parts to be used by industries from within and outside the state.

Governor Sule’s experience while trying to eake a living and at the same time pursuing his academic programme abroad, must have fired his vision for acquisition of skills alongside formal education.

He had told Bukuru Old Students Association (BOSAT) who paid him a courtesy call recently that he set up the institute in appreciation for what technical education has done to him.

He recounted how he rose from being a janitor to a renowned engineer and now Governor. He said when he came onboard as Governor, he saw the establishment of the institute as an opportunity to bring his knowledge and experience to bear towards impacting on the lives of the people of the state.

He said he proceed on scholarship for the Indiana State University in the United States, explaining that his wielding background made it possible for him to successfully graduate, rise in his career and to become what he is today.

Speaking recently before a group of Journalists, Governor Abdullahi Sule said, so far his 6 years in office has been justified going by his achievements and pledge to consolidate on the commitment of his administration to turn around the fortunes of the State through the provision of infrastural development, attraction of investment, agricultural development, educational advancement, public service transformation, amongst others.

“I need to reiterate my resolve to continue to serve the State sincerely and with the fear of the Almighty. We shall do that with due diligence in line with our principles of accountability, transparency and prudent management of public resources.

“I assure you that the mandate given to us will continue to be justified. I must state that I’m everything we do, the dream of our founding fathers and the interest of the good people of Nasarawa State will continue to define our policies and programmes towards actualizing the Nasarawa State of our collective dream” Sule had said

Some of the other highlights of the inroads recorded by Governor Abdullahi Sule administration so far initiation of the Nasarawa State Cash Transfer S Hemet where beneficiaries receive the sum of N7,500 monthly.

In the area of education, the Governor said “we have facilitated the mass construction and rehabilitation of classroom blocks in our primary and secondary schools cross the state. This is based on our conviction that conducive environment enhances effective teaching.

“Similarly, we have employed about three thousand, five hundred (3.500) teachers into our State Secondary Schools. We also employed additional teaching and non teaching staff in our State tertiary institutions. This is geared towards enhancing educational development of our dear State.

“In our commitment to encourage Science and Technical Education, we have established the faculties of Engineering and Medicine in the Nasarawa State University, Keffi,” he added.

What has Engr Sule, apart from his colleagues is taking responsibility for the future. Since assumption of office in 2019, Governor Sule had committed to human capital development by investing in education, healthcare and social welfare; it’s thus not surprising that education and health sectors remain a priority and have deservedly been getting the highest yearly budgetary allocation, far beyond the United Nation’s recommendation.

Other achievements recorded by the administration are the absorption of 1000 casual workers into the State civil service with permanent employment status, approval for the allocation of the residential quarters occupied by civil servants on owner occupied basis, with another 300 housing units in Luvu allocated to workers through mortgage financing in addition to the promotion of all cadres f civil servants, including payment of backlog entitlements.

I’m the area of health, the Governor said he has constructed new hospitals and renovated and upgraded existing ones to meet up the modern standard.

It is therefore apparent to state that, six years after aggressive transformation of all the sectors of the State economy, Engr Abdullahi Sule, without doubt, has every bragging right having delivered a strong economy, surgically reformed the public service and institutions with effective service delivery, massive job creation, unprecedented infrastural development, a record number of new businesses, strong leadership and a budgeting system, that is performing for the greater number of Nasarawa citizens.

Engr Abdullahi Sule could have chosen the path of ‘minimum routine’, but that would not have been Engr Sule. Deceit is not in his dictionary, only last week he invited all the stakeholders of the state including National Assembly Members from opposition parties and inform them that the state government has received 9.75bn refund from the federal government for the Usman Danfodio Airport Lafia and ask them to outline projects they considered very important for him to deploy the money to. That is how transparent and accountable Engr Abdullahi Sule is.

His overwhelming victory in the 2023 election, despite gang up, was an impetus to do more in the second term. This quote by James Freeman Clarke: “A politician thinks of the next election – a statesman of the next generation”, best describes Engr Abdullahi Sule.

Leadership is the art of solving problems, not papering over them. Problems only persist for as long as leaders permit. By deploying the right policies, Governor Abdullahi Sule has been solving problems regarded as intractable, thus transforming both the people and the State.

By masterminding the development of the modern Nasarawa State, Engr Abdullahi Sule has etched his name forever in the hearts of the people, beyond the boundaries of Nasarawa State. In six years, Governor Sule has shown that development is possible with total dedication and commitment.

Though, Engr Sule still has two years to go, like Julius Caesar, he can proudly proclaim: “I came, I saw, I conquered”.

  • I’ll support Tinubu any day, any time, any how — Gov Sule

I’ll support Tinubu any day, any time, any how — Gov Sule

Nasarawa Governor Abdullahi Sule has pledged support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reelection bid in 2027, dismissing rumours of political double-dealing and reaffirming loyalty to the President and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a televised interview with TVC News on Tuesday evening, Governor Sule addressed mounting speculation about his political allegiance, particularly in the context of his previous remarks linking the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) to former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The comments sparked criticism from the North Central APC Forum, who accused him of playing between Buhari and Tinubu.

Governor Sule was unequivocal in his response.

“President [Tinubu] shouldn’t be worried about my support. Abdullahi A. Sule, the engineer, the Governor of Nasarawa State, will support President Tinubu 100%. No ambiguity, no challenge. Some of us are not known for Abuja politics. We are not looking for any favours. I am a governor; I don’t need special favours. When I talk, I talk straight,”he said.

Sule emphasized his loyalty lies firmly with the APC and Tinubu, urging party members to unite behind the President’s leadership as the 2027 election cycle approaches.

“We the governors of the APC from the northern region were the same people that told President Buhari at the time: ‘President, you have been there for eight years, you are from the North, it is time for the South. I still hold that position.

“President Tinubu must be allowed to complete his eight years. As far as APC is concerned, nobody from the North should even think of anything else other than supporting President Tinubu,” he added.

Responding to concerns raised about former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s comments that President Tinubu enjoys less support in the North than he did in 2023, Sule dismissed the suggestion his commitment was in doubt.

“People who live in Abuja and think they can gain favours by creating confusion are the ones spreading such ideas. There are some people who don’t have the power to speak on behalf of CPC, and they are trying to cause division. But in reality, President Buhari is in total support of President Tinubu,” he said.

Sule clarified his controversial reference to the former CPC’s voter base and leadership, saying it was not intended to question Tinubu’s authority or support.

Rather, he argued, it was to acknowledge the historical roles of both leaders in the formation of the APC.

“In the same way nobody can speak about ACN better than President Tinubu, nobody can speak about CPC better than President Buhari. They are the true architects of the APC. These two men must remain united for the party to remain strong,” he said.

He added that his political roots lie in the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), not the CPC, countering the notion that he was aligned with CPC loyalists working against Tinubu.

“I was the AC governorship candidate in 2007, so I know what I’m talking about. I have never been CPC. So when people try to label me as such, they’re misrepresenting the facts,” Sule said.

He also pointed out that historical election results in Nasarawa disprove the notion of a rigid CPC political bloc, saying “in 2011, when Governor Al Makura won under CPC, President Buhari lost Nasarawa. Even in 2015, under APC, Buhari still lost in Nasarawa. So it’s not about CPC or APC, it’s about the people and the leaders they trust”.

On the issue of President Buhari’s enduring influence, Sule acknowledged the former president’s status within the party but stressed that it should not be misconstrued as a threat to Tinubu’s leadership.

“Yes, I respect President Buhari, but my President is President Tinubu, whom I will support any day, anytime, anyhow,” he said.

He further dismissed insinuations of division within the party, arguing that Buhari and Tinubu remain committed to the success of the APC.

  • Sule: I remain loyal to President, committed to APC

Sule: I remain loyal to President, committed to APC

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has said the state under his leadership remains loyal to the second term bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and committed to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sule gave the assurance of his loyalty to the President and the APC in a statement yesterday in Lafia, the state capital, by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Addra.

The governor was responding to a claim by the Chairman of North Central APC Forum, Alhaji Saleh Zazagga, who reportedly described Sule’s support for President Tinubu’s second term bid as a double game.

He said despite his respect for everyone’s right to political discourse and aversion for responding to every noise around him, it had become necessary to react to Zazagga’s diatribe because it was riddled with inaccuracies, deliberate misrepresentations and a glaring distortion of facts.

“Governor Sule has consistently demonstrated his commitment to President Tinubu’s administration since its inception. His recent remarks at an event organised by the ALGON in Nasarawa State and friends of the new SSG, Labaran Shuaibu Magaji (PhD) were neither a contradiction of the efforts of those encouraging all the former CPC members to remain in APC nor an endorsement of division.

“Rather, the governor’s reference to former President Muhammadu Buhari as the undisputed and symbolic leader of the defunct CPC bloc was a historical fact, not a political slight. So, His Excellency, Governor Sule is neither a favour seeker nor wants any recognition from anyone.

“If the writer now claims that former President Buhari is not the undisputed leader of the CPC block in APC, he then owes the public and loyal party members a duty to clarify or justify same rather than beating around the bush.

“It is public knowledge that ex-President Buhari, as the founder of the CPC, remains a respected figure whose influence transcends factions,” the statement said.

“Governor Sule’s call for unity, including his appeal to former AGF and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami to remain in the APC, was a strategic push to consolidate all legacy blocs under the APC umbrella. This aligns perfectly with President Tinubu’s vision of a broad-based, inclusive party. To insinuate that Governor Sule is ‘against’ Tinubu because he acknowledged Buhari’s historical role is not only illogical but a deliberate distortion of context.”

  • 2027: North-Central APC forum dares Gov Sule on support for Tinubu

2027: North-Central APC forum dares Gov Sule on support for Tinubu

The North-Central All Progressives Congress (NC-APC) forum has called on Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, to stop playing what it described as a “double game” and publicly declare where he stands, whether in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or aligned with elements opposed to the president.

In a statement on Saturday by its chairman, Saleh Zazzaga, the forum expressed disapproval over recent comments by Governor Sule concerning the political direction of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) bloc within the APC.

The CPC, one of the legacy parties that merged to form the APC, has recently been at the centre of speculation, with some of its prominent members reportedly being courted by an emerging opposition coalition spearheaded by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

In April, former Nasarawa Governor Tanko Al-Makura led a group of CPC bloc leaders—including former Katsina Governor Bello Masari—to publicly pledge their loyalty to President Tinubu and the APC, distancing themselves from the alleged coalition.

However, former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, pushed back against the Al-Makura-led declaration, asserting that only the former President Muhammadu Buhari’s camp could determine the CPC bloc’s political direction.

Governor Sule echoed Malami’s view during a reception in Lafia on May 3, stating that only Buhari could speak on behalf of the CPC.

“There is only one person in this world who can decide for the CPC, and that is our father, Muhammadu Buhari. He is the CPC. When he speaks, the CPC moves,” Sule said, citing Buhari’s loyal 12 million voter base.

In response, the North-Central APC Forum said Sule’s comments reveal a contradiction and signal a possible opposition to the bloc’s endorsement of Tinubu, as led by Al-Makura, his immediate predecessor.

“It is now evident that Governor Sule does not support the CPC bloc’s alignment with President Tinubu. His statements suggest he is undermining the stance taken by Al-Makura and other respected leaders,” the Forum stated.

The Forum further emphasised that no one could claim more authority over the CPC legacy than Al-Makura, the only governor ever elected on the CPC platform before the party’s merger into the APC.

They argued that his role gave the CPC significant leverage during merger negotiations that led to Buhari’s presidency in 2015.

“If anyone represents the CPC legacy, it is Al-Makura, not even President Buhari, who couldn’t deliver a governor on the CPC platform in his home State of Katsina,” the statement said.

The Forum cautioned Governor Sule against working in tandem with individuals trying to destabilise the Tinubu administration, calling on him to clarify his position.

“We are forced to believe that Governor Sule is collaborating with those who do not want Tinubu’s government to succeed. He needs to stop sending mixed signals and decide where he stands.”

They also argued that Sule’s continued commentary on the CPC’s political trajectory was unnecessary, especially since he was not part of the party’s formative years or the APC merger negotiations.

The Forum noted Governor Sule’s cautious stance on some of the administration’s initiatives, such as the tax reforms, referencing his public remarks in October 2024 about the challenges posed by the reforms to Nigerians.

“As stakeholders from the North-Central region who have endorsed President Tinubu for a second term in 2027, we commend the Al-Makura-led CPC bloc for standing firm with Mr. President and rejecting the opposition coalition.

“We see this coalition as a self-serving alliance aimed at reversing the progress made since May 29, 2023,” the Forum noted.

It added that the loyalty of CPC leaders to Tinubu had already been declared and that ongoing attempts to discredit or diminish that endorsement only serve to create unnecessary confusion.

“The likes of Abdullahi Sule and Abubakar Malami cannot simultaneously oppose Tinubu’s endorsement and claim allegiance to his presidency.

“If they are truly with the President, they should fall in line and join other progressives working for the success of his administration and his reelection in 2027,” the Forum noted.

AKK: Nassarawa prepares to power industries with gas

The Nassarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule said he has made adequate preparation to connect to the Ajaokuta Kaduna Kano (AKK) gas pipeline to power the industrial clusters.

The AKK was 72 per cent completed as at the first quarter (Q1) of this year, according to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Group Chief Executive Officer Engr Bashir Bayo Ojulari.

But Sule said he is taking a cue from the industrial base in Sagamu, Ogun State, which is powered by gas from West Africa Gas Pipeline.

He spoke in Abuja during the Roundtable Event on: “Catalyzing Renewable Energy Growth Through Research, Development, and Innovation in Nassarawa State Electricity Market.”

He said: “And I said I am waiting for the AKK line to be ready. So Nassarawa State has now developed its own region just for gas supply so that we can also generate power in that area.”

He recalled that aside from the companies that recently set up lithium processing firms in the state, all the raw lithium from Nassarawa were processed in Sagamu because of regular power supply.

The governor admitted that the state is fast transforming from home of solid minerals to home of lithium.

He recalled that President Bola Tinubu commissioned the largest lithium (3 million  metric tons per annum) factory in the state.

Sule said in July 2025, the state will commission another lithium factory that is three times larger than the present largest one.

He added that only on Monday morning, an investor unveiled plans to build another five million metric tons per annum lithium factory in Kokona Local Government of the state.

The governor also announced how the state has discovered a huge lithium deposit in an unimaginable area.

He stressed that another investor has also decided to establish a 15 million metric tons per annum of lithium in the area.

He described the state as an industrial hub, thriving with lithium processing activities.

Sule however lamented that since the factories lack access to electricity, they run their plants with diesel engines.

He urged the Renewable Energy Services Companies (RESCOs) to tap into the energy gap in the state, stressing the customers are ready to pay for power.

He said Nassarawa has 25 mini-grid being the highest number in a single state because of the customers readiness to pay for power.

Buttressing the states desire for energy he said he usually ensure that the community take ownership of the mini- grids.

He said: “When Horsepower was commissioning their first mini-grid in Lokobi, I decided to go myself and I make the people to ensure that they must take ownership of that.

“And why are they successful in Nassarawa State is because of the prospect in Nassarawa State. If you go to the communities that are willing to pay for power then you will have your return on investment. If you go to areas where people are not interested in to pay it.”

    • Signs MoU with REA

The Nassarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule yesterday declared a special tax holiday for Renewable Energy Service Companies (RESCOs) developing mini-grids.

He predicated the tax waiver on the benefits accruable to the communities from the investment.

“There is a special tax holiday for renewable energy because it is a win-win situation for you and our communities that are benefiting.”

Sule spoke in Abuja during the Roundtable Event on “Catalyzing Renewable Energy Growth Through Research, Development, and Innovation in Nassarawa State Electricity Market.”

The state signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to boost access to electricity.

Meanwhile, the REA Managing Director, Abba  Aliyu announced that with 25 numbers of mini-grids, the state has the highest number in the country.

Responding, the governor said the reason for the robust record of mini-grids was the people’s willingness to pay for the energy.

“So one of the reasons Nassarawa has the highest number of mini-grid is because the people are willing to pay for power,” he said.

He predicated the prospect in the renewable energy investment in the state on the Return on Investment (RoI) in the state.

According to him, the state has worked hard to ensure there is a guarantee on ROI because once the ROI is shaky the investors’ confidence in the state will become shaky.

The governor also said the state has a law that set aside 5 per cent of the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to de-risk investment.

He further noted that the de-risking is mostly to ensure the provision of basic infrastructure as water and road in operational bases where they are lacking to attract the investors

According to him, the state also ensured that the host communities take ownership of the factories because of the economic opportunities that come with the investment.

He said: “So that is why we have law in Nassarawa State that clearly says five per cent of our IGR is going to go into de-risking for investors that are coming into Nassarawa State.

“And then this five per cent that goes into de-risking partly in ensuring that in case there is no road to the area, we construct the road, there is no water in the area, we try to provide. There is also a challenge we are facing in case of power we try to do that.

“Every investor coming to Nassarawa State once he comes to this our one stop shop they come to that we hand hold them to the communities.

“We say community we have an investor coming into your area and it is going to bring investment for you, economic empowerment for you and we want you to live in peace with them and we want you to take ownership of that. I don’t send anybody I go there myself.”

He informed the RESCOs that the state is constructing a World Bank funded multi-door court house to resolve investment related disputes instead of waiting for the regular courts.

He shed light on why investors trooped to the state despite while neighbouring Southern Kaduna, Benue and Plateau states were in crisis.

He said the government has toiled assiduously to ensure there is peace and security in the state.

He said: “A gentleman asked me last week and said you Nassarawa State, we hear a lot of killings going on in Benue next to you.

“Then the killing jumped to Plateau next to door and then sometimes we hear Southern Kaduna. How come you people are living quiet what is actually happening?

“He said what is going on in the state and instead we are hearing you commissioning mining companies: tin mining, lithium mining and yet you have more number of ethnic groups in Nassarawa than in Benue and Plateau put together. He said how come?

“I said number one is God and he said well there is more to it than just God. And I said if you are looking for investors and you understand how to look for investors you must work very hard to ensure that you have peace because every investor wants to hear security first.

“Most investment must have what you call RoI return on investment; if the return on investment is shaky, and investors also will become shaky and will run away.”

Meanwhile, the REA boss said there are 25 completed mini-grids ready for commissioning in the state.

He said 1.4 million people in the state are on grid supply while 2,404 communities are off grid.
