Don’t distract me with senatorial contest, Sule tells supporters

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has prevailed on his supporters not to distract him by embarking on early political campaigns ahead of 2027 but to allow him to focus on his present mandate.

Governor Sule made the call yesterday when he hosted a delegation of traditional rulers and stakeholders from Akwanga Local Government Area led by the Chun Mada, HRH Pastor Samson Gamu Yare at the Government House.

The Governor particularly called on those already campaigning for him to join the race for the Nasarawa North senatorial district to desist henceforth, as he focuses on delivering on his mandate as governor.

He distanced himself from any political campaigns linking him to any senatorial ambition come 2027.

“I have been focusing my attention that by the grace of God, the next two years will be the best years ever for our administration.  We are doing our best to do that. But you know we can’t do that if we are distracted by campaigns. If you see anybody campaigning for Engr Abdullahi Sule as a senator, the person is doing it on his own. I have not told anybody that I am interested in going for Senate,” he said.

Sule used the opportunity to call on elected officials, especially from Nasarawa North to also focus on their various mandates and to deliver, instead of embarking on early campaigns.

In his opening remarks, the Chun Mada, HRH Pastor Samson Gamu Yare, said the entire zone is proud of Governor Sule as a result of his exemplary leadership and for embarking on far-reaching development initiatives that is unprecedented in the history of the state.

Yare described Governor Sule as one of the best in the history of the state, particularly with visible projects spread across not only Akwanga Local Government Area but the entire state.

The Chun Mada, however, raised concerns over emerging security threats particularly along the ongoing stretch of the Akwanga bypass, urging the Governor to support the army operating in the area with a vehicle.

He used the opportunity to commend the chairman of the local government area, Hon. Safiyanu Isa Andaha for purchasing a Sharon vehicle and three motorcycles for the vigilante towards boosting security in the area.

Reinventing wheel of change through skills acquisition in Nasarawa

LINUS OOTA writes on the innovations introduced by Governor Abdullahi Sule to take Nasarawa youths out of the streets through skills acquisition.

Available white-collar jobs can no longer cater for the number of job seekers in the country. This calls for a means of engaging the younger generation in skill acquisition training in the vocation of their choice for both personal or commercial benefits.

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state in fulfillment of this demand took far reaching measures on various entrepreneurship training offered by his administration.

The Governor is determined to create a society where youths will be self reliant with relevant skills in order to bridge the unemployment and innovative gap in youth productivity thereby making them gainfully employed.

The Wing Commander Abdullahi  Ibrahim Vocational and Technology Institute established by Governor Abdullahi Sule offers entrepreneurship skills development such as, tailoring, mechanical engineering, solar panels system installations, wielding and several other skills that will help take the youths off the street.

Speaking exclusively to our correspondent on the idea behind the establishment of the Skills Acquisition Center, Governor Abdullahi Sule said, as a trained engineer who has strong believe in education for self reliance, the vision for the technical institute is all encompassing.

First, this institute is expected to impact necessary technical skills on the youths, as well as graduates of universities and polytechnics from other fields of study, who will be trained to become self reliance.

Secondly, the institute will be employed by factories that will spring up across the state. Thirdly, the manufacturing spare parts to be used by industries from within and outside the state.

Governor Sule’s experience while trying to eake a living and at the same time pursuing his academic programme abroad, must have fired his vision for acquisition of skills alongside formal education.

He had told Bukuru Old Students Association (BOSAT) who paid him a courtesy call recently that he set up the institute in appreciation for what technical has done to him.

He recounted how he rose from being a janitor to a renowned engineer and now Governor. He said when he came onboard as Governor, he saw the establishment of the institute as an opportunity to bring his knowledge and experience to bear towards impacting on the lives of the people of the state.

He said he proceed on scholarship for the Indiana State University in the United States, explaining that his wielding background made it possible for him to successfully graduate, rise in his career and to become what he is today.

“I looked for a part time weilding job paying 2.75 USD an hour. I will now go an spend all the hours I could possibly do carrying out welding and I made a lot of money and I became richer than my friends.

“I was able to graduate in 3 years with 4 years scholarship. Then the last one year, I did my masters because I had a wielding Job.

“On my return to Nigeria, I worked in Jos steel rolling company only for about three years and returned to Houston, Texas where because of the opportunity in the area of wielding, I was for the first time introduced into the oil and gas sector.

“I was not an oil person originally. I was trained a weilder and then I did mechanical technology. At the end of the day, I was using that knowledge to work on an oil and gas platform, because on the platform, wielders and fabricators are kings. I started taking the seismic. Eventually they moved me into a weilding shop to do a CNC machine programmed and operation.

“That is where I learned about all the conversational programme in the CNC” he said

He said his knowledge and experience informed the decision to set up the Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim Vocational and Technical Institute in order to give back to the society.

“That is why I said when I come to Nigeria, in Nasarawa State, when I set up a technical school, there must be a CNC machine. I was a hot cake just like any CNC programmer.

“It doesn’t matter what anyone says, I feel fulfilled. I feel I have been able to bring the knowledge, the experiences I had in order to impact on our people locally” he added

Like he promised, the institute does not only have a CNC machine but many others that impact skills to hitherto job seekers, primary school pupils, their secondary counterparts, and even graduates through its about 40 components.

In establishing the institute, he had to search for someone who shared his vision to drive the process. In nearby Jos, Plateau state at the Nigeria Industrial Training Fund, he picked Dr Asele Ewuga Daniel who agreed to take some leave of absence to head the institute.

Speaking to our correspondent also, Dr Asele Ewuga who the executive director of the school said, the institute has trained over 900 graduates who are already doing well in their area of trade.

He said, the institute has three categories of trainees. There are those who have never been in school, those who are through with their secondary education as well as those who have obtained their degrees, HND, and Masters and even PhD. He said there is another category especially for vulnerable women.

He said of special interest, is the opportunity accorded to University graduates by the Governor to acquire training in the areas of choice. He said some first class graduates of the state owned University in Keffi and the Federal University of Lafia benefited from the training programmes at the institute.

After the training, each of the student was given capital to start the trade and become employers of labour. He said the recent gesture was the training of about 50 first class graduates of the FULAFIA who were given N500,000 each to set up their businesses.

Speaking about the need for graduates to also acquire skills, Governor Sule has said that, having education without skills is defective, stressing that anyone without the requisite skill will always find it difficult to function independently.

He emphasized on the need for Nigerian graduates to acquire technical, vocational and entrepreneurial skills towards self-reliance.

According to the Governor, the high turnover of graduates from institutions of higher learning across the country, makes it imperative that Nigerian graduates acquire not only degrees but also skills that will make them self-reliant and employers of labour.

Dr Asele agreed that in the era of rising unemployment with many competing for few or non existent jobs, skills acquisition is the way to go.

In other climes, while youths are gainfully employed, being prepared for leadership in government, financial institutions, defense, medical field, religion and several meaningful venture, the reverse is the case in Nigeria.

However, in recent times, skills acquisition in line with government’s policy have been propagated by both public and private entities to help reduce the unemployment rate amongst teeming Nigerian youths.

The executive director of the Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim Vocational and Skills Acquisition Institute Lafia, Dr Adele Ewuga said about 70 youths selected from across the state are currently undergoing training for various skills.

According to Dr. Ewuga, the first batch of trainees at the institute comprises of 40 youths, who will undergo intensive training in Information Communication Technology (ICT), while the remaining 30 will be trained on wielding and fabrication.

He explained that, after the training,  which will last for 3 months, the trainees will graduate with the National Skills Qualification (NSQ) certificate, as well as the National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB) certificate.

The executive director added that, the institute has also begun the process of ensuring that it register with appropriate regulatory agencies, in order to be able to issue its trainees with the National Innovative Diploma (NID).

“The bottomline of all the training we are doing here, is that at end of it, they will be employers of labour. Before now, Nigerians interest is only on paper qualification.  Your paper qualification cannot give you anything today. Your certificate cannot fetch food for you today. Your certificate cannot respond to food, to money,” Dr. Ewuga said.

He emphasized that, the institute is impacting vocational skills on the youths so that they can start their own business, as well as become employers of labour.

“It’s only skills that respond to money and money responds to skills. Your certificate can only cure your illiteracy. It cannot cure your poverty. It’s your skills that can cure poverty today,” he added.

When the trainees are out of this place, we expect them to go an establish their business.  That is why we call it SYB. Start Your Business. And in turn they will employ others to work with them.

Speaking during his inspection visit at the facility,  Nasarawa State Governor,  Engineer Abdullahi Sule,  expressed satisfaction that the Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim Vocational and Skills Acquisition Institute, has commenced training of youths from across the state.

Engineer Sule commended the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) for effectively utilizing the facility to the benefit of the people of the state and the country at large.

The Governor urged the trainees to use the opportunity provided at the institute to acquire vocational skills that will make them self employed.

According to him, it gives him a sense of fulfilment to see the institute commence its activities with 70 youths drawn across the state, stressing that this further serves the policy thrust of his administration in the area of human capital development.

Engineer Sule expressed hope that, with the springing of industries across the state, the Lafia vocational institute will serve as a centre for the training of qualified manpower to man these industries.

The Governor, who couldn’t hide his excitement seeing the trainees, used the opportunity to test his wielding and fabrication skills.

He also use the occasion to presents N200, 000 cheques to 40 best graduating trainees as 105 retiring civil servants receive certificates in various skills where they emerged best in wielding and fabrication, ICT, tailoring and fashion design.

According to the Governor, those about to leave the service have paid their dues, having worked hard to contribute towards the development of the state.

He however expressed concerned over the plight of retirees in the State who in the past leave the service with no hope of getting their retirement benefits.

“We came an inherited a situation where when somebody is leaving, he is not leaving with his gratuity, he is not leaving with his complete package so the he will go and set up something to do. A lot of people actually leave and when they leave they stay so many years without seeing their complete gratuity.  And that is very very painful if you are truly a leader,” he said.

Governor Sule said as someone who worked in several companies where he received his entire benefits on the day he retired, he became disturbed after realizing that some retired civil servants did not get their retirement benefits since 1996 when Nasarawa State was created.

He said on coming onboard, his administration paid all the retirees from 1996 all the way to 2011and is now working towards the payment of those who left the state civil service from 2011 to date.

The Governor pointed out that with the growing number of retiring civil servants, the ideal situation for the state is to introduce the contributory pension scheme, which would see retirees getting their entire benefits on retirement.

“Because everyday you have people leaving. But the ideal thing to do was a situation that I found myself when I was in another company. When I was there, every time you are paid your salary your contribution is paid directly to a pension manager. We were in a contributory pension scheme. But in Nasarawa State we are still not yet on contributory pension scheme. My dream, by the grace of God, is to see that we establish contributory pension scheme before I leave,” he stated.

He said his administration introduced the pre-retirement programme for about-to-retire civil servants in order to impact vocational skills on the retirees to prepare them for live after service.

“Many retirees  suffer because of lack of planning for retirement.  That is why when I am here I said let me use the opportunity so that our retirees from this state will not face the same problem faced by those who fritter their retire benefits.

“Even though they may not have 20m to do that but we will give them a skill and try to connect them with a facility,” he added.

He added that his experience in the United State where he was forced to use the skills he learned at the Bukuru Technical College to earned a living, motivated him to convert the structure initiated by his immediate past predecessor to into a vocational institute in order to provide opportunity for the youths and citizens of the state to acquire skills that would change their lives for the better.

“For me, as far as this institute is concerned, I am fulfilled.  That is exactly what I was looking forward to and I am happy other people are buying in and doing what is supposed to be done. This week I got my satisfaction both left and right. The matriculation at the faculty of engineering Gudi with over 100 engineers coming onboard.  It’s a fulfilled week, with what we have been dreaming coming to reality,” he said.

Earlier, Dr Daniel Ewuga Asele, said the institution that was established in 2022 has so far graduated two sets of beneficiaries.

“You are the first Governor to have introduced pre retirement vocational skills for civil servants about to retire from government service.  This is the only way to go. We have a total of 105, all from the civil service of Nasarawa State.  They have been here for the past two weeks. They have been well trained, and we have also been feeding them for the past two weeks,” he said.

In a goodwill message, Head of the Civil Service, Abigail Waya, appreciated the Governor for giving citizens of the state skills with which they can make a living.

“This is not just a meal ticket. A meal ticket presupposes that it’s just for food. But this is beyond just food. With the skills we are being given, we can eat, build houses, educate our children, marry and we can do many other things.  We can be a blessing to Nigeria, employ labour,” the HOS said.

She said civil servants in Nasarawa State never had it so good like under the present administration of Governor Sule.

North cannot hold Nigeria hostage over Almajiri problem – Sule

Nasarawa State Governor and Chairman of the North Central Governors Forum, Abdullahi Sule, has emphasised that the people of the region must take decisive action to address the persistent issues related to the almajiri system.

Governor Sule made this statement while inaugurating a regional conference on population dynamics, security, climate change, out-of-school children, almajiri, and vulnerable children in Nigeria. The event, organized by the National Population Commission, was hosted by the Nasarawa State Government on Tuesday in Lafia.

The governor pointed out that the North can no longer hold the country hostage over the almajiri problem, asserting that only the region can resolve the challenges associated with this system.

He warned that if the region does not take steps to address the almajiri issue, the protests against bad governance, which have recently occurred across the country, will seem trivial compared to the potential crisis that could arise from an unresolved almajiri system.

“The almajiri problem is indeed a huge problem for us. I think, just as I told my colleagues in Kaduna during our last meeting of the Northern governors, I said we should stop complaining. It is time for us to take the bull by the horns and see how we can resolve the problem by ourselves.

“We should no longer expect anybody to come and solve the problem of the almajiri system. We must be the ones to solve this problem if we are serious about solving the problem of the almajiri system,” he said.

The Governor pointed out that all previous efforts to address the problems of the almajiri have failed because the root cause of the problem is yet to be addressed.

He emphasized that people must be taught to take responsibility of their children rather than sending them out to beg on the streets in the name of acquiring Islamic education.

“We have to find a way to teach people that it is a sin in Islam to continue to produce children you could not take care of. Until we take care of that, we cannot solve the problem. Just like it is a sin to continue to marry wives you cannot take care of, it is also a sin to continue producing children that you cannot take care of,” he stated.

Governor Sule insisted that as long as parents continue to send their children and wards to traditional almajiri schools then the problem would persist.

“These are the challenges we have at hand. We must be able to take it seriously and teach our people directly into their sense to know that they must understand that this is the challenge that we have in Nigeria today.

“Why is it that it is only here? I just got back from Saudi Arabia. I didn’t see too many almajiri in Makkah, Madina, in Jedda or anywhere. They are an Islamic nation. Yes. You mentioned that in Pakistan they have out-of-school children but their own situation is even completely different. Why should Northern Nigeria continue to hold the entire nation at ransom when we know that it is our own problem and we have to go out there and find a way to solve it,” he said.

While commending the National Commission for Almajiri and Out of School Children for initiating the process of taking the almajiri off the streets by adopting a system that would see the beneficiaries attend universities in Madina, Niger and Malaysia, he said that would not be sufficient to fully tackle the menace.

Recounting his experience tackling the almajiri problem back in 2020, during the coronavirus pandemic, with his administration transporting almajiris from the streets across the state, back to their states of origin, Governor Sule lamented that four times the number returned to Lafia afterward.

“What human being on earth would take his 4 or 5-year-old kid and take him and drop the child somewhere where you are not interested in what the child eats, where he sleeps, what he wears and you said this is Islam. There is no way this is Islam. Suratul Bakhara is very clear on this,” he added.

He warned further that the North must wake up and solve the almajiri problem since nobody would do that for the region.

He announced plans by his administration to set up three special schools in Lafia, Akwanga, and Keffi specifically to rehabilitate the almajiri but called on his colleagues from the North to ensure that they stop producing more almajiri into society.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra, said the conference, supported by the Nasarawa State Government, is a critical step towards fulfilling one of the commission’s key responsibilities, research, and dissemination of evidence-based data for policy formulation and development.

Kwarra revealed that the inaugural regional conference brought together executive governors, traditional and religious leaders, development partners, experts from academia, professionals, and other stakeholders across the region and beyond to discuss the complex and critical challenges facing the North Central zone and Nigeria at large.

“The overall objective of the conference is to provide a forum for articulating, discussing and proffering actionable solutions to the multidimensional socioeconomic and environmental challenges of the region,” he said.

Earlier, in a goodwill message, Dr. Mohammed Sani Idris, Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Almajiri and Out of School Children, disclosed that available data showed that there are 251m out-of-school children globally.

“Out of this number, 163m are from Africa. And in Africa, Nigeria has the largest number. Nigeria is ranked second globally after Pakistan with 18.3m out-of-school children. For the almajiri, even though the data before us is not cogent and verifiable it is suggesting that we have over 30m almajiri that are today roaming the streets of this country,” he said.

Dr. Idris blamed the situation on the wrong interpretation of verses of the holy Quran.

He announced that the commission is inaugurating a programme in Kaduna State where 350 almajiris would be absorbed and exposed to the understanding of Arabic, and English and some skills acquisition.

“That way we are sure they will develop linguistic immunity against any ideology that is not in tandem with the correct teaching of the Quran,” he said.

He explained that also as part of the programme, beneficiaries would be sent to Islamic universities in Madina, Niger, and Malaysia.

Sule to women: break cultural barriers, soar for greatness

Nasarawa state governor, Abdullahi Sule, has admonished women to resist religious and cultural barriers which debar them from attaining greatness in their various endeavours.

Governor Sule gave the charge at the closing of the 24th National Women’s Conference organised by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO).

The conference was themed ‘Soar Beyond Boundaries…enrich communities’.

Sule, represented by his Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Aisha Rufai-Ibrahim, described the conference as depicting the collective commitment to foster regional integration and a way to complement efforts of the Lagos State government to fast-track development and improve the well-being of Lagosians.

According to him, the conference’s theme was also apt given the prevailing challenging social and economic conditions.

He said: “It is pertinent to state that women constitute significant segments of our population, and perform a unique and indispensable role in ensuring the growth and development of our society. The reproduction, survival, and continuity of the human race rests solely on women who have increasingly exhibited remarkable capacity and resilience in social, economic, and political transformation, agricultural production, food processing, and particularly the wellbeing of their family and society at large.

“Regrettably, negative cultural and religious considerations have over the years affected our gender, resulting in avoidable discrimination against women which has become apparent in all spheres of social living. This situation often creates inadequate access to opportunities for women to develop their innate ability and potential to contribute to the economic growth of society.

“Similarly, women have, over the years, proven to be catalysts of progressive change, not only within the conventional corridors of powers and governance but across all other human endeavours.”

Governor Sule said the conference will serve as an impetus to allow women to be abreast of the policies and programmes at various levels of government, and provide the needed opportunities to offer constructive advice, feedback, support, and contributions to facilitate good governance in the interest of the citizens.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu charged women to take their rightful positions in society, be creative and more productive to provide for themselves towards growing the economy and better the lots of the families.

According to him, Lagos is using the umbrella of COWLSO to train and retrain the women and continue to provide a platform for the women’s voices to be heard.

He added: “You can feel the excitement in my voice and see it on my face. I know you are the real reason why governance is exciting. As women, we believe you are in a position of leadership and you cannot stay at the back. The minimum we expect you to stay is by our side, you cannot take a back seat, it is not acceptable.

“And so we are in this leadership position together, and the moment you can assure yourself that you can do it, we know that you can multitask at all times. The skills are with you there, so go out and soar beyond the boundaries and soar higher, so that when next you come for this conference, you will come with renewed hope, vigour, skills, and thoughts to say that last year at COWLSO, I have improved.

“You must be able to learn a skill, have a trade; there must be something that you can do differently as a woman. There must be one knowledge, innovation, and idea that you must continue to birth every time, and that is what conferences like this will help you to put up those thoughts and reshape your thinking capacity.

“COWLSO has over the years been the sounding board that the government has continued to lend our support to. Year after year, COWLSO challenges us even in strategic development areas, we have seen them transform schools, renovate primary health institutions, help learning the environment in our schools, build old people’s homes, and pass on training development. We want to thank them for their support; these are what we in government are meant to do.

“Learning is a lifelong process and we cannot but continue to learn. We will continue to ensure that you are adaptable and receptive to the needs of your family, community, and society.”

In her closing remarks, COWLSO Chairman and the governor’s wife, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, urged women to come into the political space and be decision-makers to further strengthen their status in society.

She maintained that women must desist from exhibiting affluence but ensure they give back to their communities, and ensure that the focus of COWLSO, which harped on how to impact lives, remains relevant and effective in addressing the evolving needs.

“Let us carry home this lesson, embrace modesty, prioritise your needs over wants lead by example in your community, practice prudence in spending, mentor the next generation, and instill in your children the values of hard work, resourcefulness, and sustainability,” she added.

Don’t distract Ganduje, Sule warns APC members

The Chairman of the North Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors’ Forum Abdullahi Sule has warned against any distraction of the Abdullahi Umar Ganduje-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling party.

He said this on Friday when he paid a solidarity visit on Ganduje and other members of NWC at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

The Nasarawa Governor, who said the leadership of party was concerned about the ongoings in the party, especially in the North Central geo-political zone, maintained that party members should desist from distracting the national leadership of the party.

He said: “I am here also to pay my respect to a man that deserves respect. To our national chairman, Dr. Ganduje. He deserves respect and deserves all the cooperation especially at a time like this.

“In the next couple of weeks, we have an election in Edo. So the man does not need to be distracted in any other way, so that we can go and win our election in Edo and that is one of the reasons why I came to encourage him to be focused.”

Admitting crisis in one of the States in the region, Sule hinted that efforts were been made by the NWC to find a lasting solution to it.

“I am the chairman of the North Central governors forum. And in the North Central, we have a state where there are issues and we had lengthen discussions also on that. We want him as well as the National Working Committee to intervene and make sure that we resolve those issues.

“North Central has five out of six APC governors. So for that reason, we need to strengthen our zone. We cannot afford any kind of disagreement in our zone.

“And I have no doubt that if there is any gentleman that can work to resolve that matter, it’s a man who has been in several positions. A deputy governor, a governor, a chairman, in fact so many other positions that he has been.

“So for that reason I came to pay my respect to the Father of the party at the Working Committee and to our leader.”

Commending the Governor, APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru shed more light on the party’s forthcoming National Caucus and thr National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings scheduled for next month.

He maintained that the two statutory meetings would be a non-elective meeting.

On rumours making round about the routine meetings, Basiru said: “People like to twist events. Immediately we put up notice when the President told us about his availability, we read in the papers that the meetings (Caucus & NEC) are about changing the leadership of our party.

“None of these meetings is being scheduled for regime change in the party. It is being held to give stewardship of what has been done by the leadership of Dr Abdullahi Ganduje in terms of also presenting our audit report to show what we have been doing as well as the way forward.”

APC National Chairman, Ganduje also commended Nasarawa Governor and assured the party of the readiness of the NWC to continue to give leadership to the party.

Sule gets Fed Govt’s N3b to tackle floods in Nasarawa

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has acknowledged the receipt of N3 billion from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to fight flooding.

Sule announced this while presiding over an expanded State Executive Council (Exco) meeting at the Government House in Lafia.

The governor, who expressed appreciation to the President for fulfilling his promise during one of the National Executive Council (NEC) meetings, assured him that every kobo received would be used judiciously to mitigate the impact of flooding.

Sule recalled that immediately he was informed by the state’s Accountant General about the receipt of the money, he summoned officials of the Ministry for Humanitarian Affairs to discuss how best to utilise the fund.

“The money has been received by the Accountant General. When I was informed, I called the team together to discuss it. But I think we should discuss it in detail here to accept how to utilise the funds. What I asked the Accountant General to do is to create a dedicated account for this N3 billion.

“I think that is what the government would like to have so that even if no state is submitting details of how they spent the money, I want us in Nasarawa to do that,” he said.

Addressing reporters after the meeting, Commissioner for Special Duties on Humanitarian Affairs and NGOs, Dr. Magret Elayo, said her ministry had undertaken the assessment on areas that would be affected by floods.

Elayo named flood prone local governments in the state as Nasarawa, Toto, Awe, and Doma.

The commissioner said there were floods recently in Lafia, Karu, Wamba, and other areas.

“Right now, we are at the implementation stage of using the resources to make sure that the people actually affected by the floods will be alleviated to a level where they can have a better living arrangement. We are going to provide food items and other households items pending when the floods subside so that we can move them back into their homes.

“Most of that is to make sure we fix some of the properties that have been damaged and make sure we provide them temporary accommodation that is conducive to live in,” she said.
