Abiodun holds security meeting to strengthen peace, safety in Ogun

Governor Dapo Abiodun on Monday convened a security meeting with top officials to assess and reinforce the security situation in Ogun State. The meeting follows recent alarms, including reports of an influx of Fulani herdsmen in Ajebo and Mile 6 areas of Abeokuta, as well as rumours of bandit activities in Ijebu-Ode and Tai Solarin Federal University of Education, Ijagun.

Speaking on X, the governor emphasized that while such meetings are routine, they are crucial for sustaining Ogun’s reputation as “one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria, if not the most peaceful.”

He highlighted the importance of preparing for threats even during times of peace, saying, “The best time to prepare for war is during peace.”

Abiodun outlined several measures to maintain security in the state. These include confronting illegal mining activities, investigating non-indigene settlements in Ajebo, and establishing a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Ilara, a key border community in Yewa North, to tighten border security. Activities of scavengers across the state will also be strictly regulated to prevent criminal infiltration and illicit practices.

Other measures include mandatory documentation of all foreign nationals, dismantling and government takeover of the ZAGA settlement to prevent unlawful activities, imposing sanctions on landlords harbouring criminals, and routine engagement with non-indigene communities to strengthen security cooperation.

The governor also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for stabilizing the economy and supporting rescue operations for kidnap victims in Niger and Kwara States.

Abiodun stressed that as the industrial capital of Nigeria and a key gateway state, Ogun must remain proactive in safeguarding peace to ensure continued economic development and stability.

“We have and must continue to be proactive in ensuring that we sustain our position as one of the more peaceful states in Nigeria,” he said.

The meeting reaffirmed the government’s commitment to keeping Ogun State safe, secure, and peaceful for all residents.

…says move will boost justice, economic growth

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has commended the President of the Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice Monica Bolna’an Dongban-Mensem, for approving the establishment of the Abeokuta Division of the Court of Appeal, describing it as a landmark decision that will deepen justice delivery and strengthen the ease of doing business in the state.

The governor made the remarks while addressing participants at the State Treasury Board Meeting for the 2025–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and the 2026 Budget Session held at the Oba’s Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

He expressed profound gratitude to Justice Dongban-Mensem for what he called a visionary and pragmatic approval that recognises Ogun State’s strategic importance in Nigeria’s judicial and economic landscape, noting that she has demonstrated exceptional understanding of the challenges faced by the state and its growing judicial workload.

Abiodun said the President of the Court of Appeal deserves commendation for graciously approving the establishment of the Ogun State Division of the Court of Appeal, adding that her leadership has brought renewed vigour to the appellate system.

He said her decision reflects a deep commitment to justice, fairness, and accessibility, noting that she has shown outstanding foresight by granting the approval in response to the peculiar needs of Ogun State.

The governor explained that the state government had earlier met all requirements set by the Court of Appeal for the establishment of the new division.

He said his administration had deliberately ensured that every necessary condition was fulfilled, from providing land to ensuring infrastructure readiness because of the value the institution brings to the justice system and the state’s economy.

Abiodun stressed that the new court would not only bring justice closer to the people but would also play a key role in enhancing investor confidence and promoting economic growth.

He said the project was a major pillar in the state’s Ease of Doing Business Index and a significant enabler of commercial activity.

According to him, about 75 percent of appeal cases handled by the Ibadan Division originate from Ogun State, making it imperative to have a division in Abeokuta where business and commercial disputes can be dispensed with expeditiously, giving investors greater confidence to invest in the state.

The governor revealed that the site for the new Court of Appeal complex had already been secured adjacent to the Judiciary Complex along Kobape Road, Abeokuta, and that construction would begin immediately.

He said his administration would not wait for federal funding before commencing the project and would finance it pending future reimbursement, adding that the court would be completed and fully operational before the end of his tenure.

Abiodun reiterated that the establishment of the Abeokuta Division was a testament to the foresight and fairness of Justice Dongban-Mensem and her dedication to efficient justice delivery across the country.

He said the new division would significantly decongest the Ibadan Division, ensure timely resolution of appeals, and bring judicial services closer to the people of Ogun State.

The governor also commended the Ogun State judiciary for its steadfast cooperation and professionalism, describing it as the last hope of the common man and a vital partner in the state’s progress.

He said the synergy between the executive and judicial arms of government had contributed immensely to the successes recorded by his administration and reaffirmed his commitment to providing the judiciary with the best working environment and support.

Abiodun said the decision to establish the new Court of Appeal division was both a judicial and governance milestone, aligning perfectly with his administration’s commitment to institutional reform, equitable governance, and economic development.

He described the move as a legacy project that would stand as a symbol of collaboration between the federal judiciary and the Ogun State Government.

The governor concluded by saying that the Abeokuta Division of the Court of Appeal would revolutionise the justice delivery system in Ogun State, reduce delays, and make justice swifter, fairer, and more accessible, while reinforcing confidence in governance and the rule of law.

Ogun MTEF: Abiodun touts infrastructure, fiscal discipline

In keeping with the practice of early budget preparation for optimal performance, the Ogun State Government commenced town hall meetings with stakeholders to solicit their input into the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and the 2026 Budget. The practice of holding town hall meetings aligns with the inclusive governance style of the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun and the administration’s ‘Building Our Future Together’ mantra. In today’s democratizing world, involving people in the decision-making process is essential for social capital. It not only gives them a sense of belonging, but also helps to choose projects that are a priority to their needs.

Recently, the Remo Royal Event Centre, Akarigbo Palace, Ita-Oba, Sagamu, played host to the government team, an opportunity for stock-taking and future projections for the next fiscal year.

Setting the tone for discussion, the Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Finance and Chief Economic Adviser, Mr Dapo Okubadejo, reiterated the commitment of his administration to transforming the state into Nigeria’s foremost regional transportation hub through strategic infrastructural investments.

He stated that his administration had shown strong resolve by committing 130 hectares of land to the construction of the proposed Inland Dry Port, strategically positioned to connect the Lekki Deep Sea Port and the Kajola Dry Port.

This initiative, combined with the Gateway International Airport project, which recently commenced commercial operations, he added, would accelerate economic growth, generate employment opportunities, and position Ogun as a regional aviation and transportation hub. “These projects will open new frontiers for seamless travel, enhance connectivity, and boost economic activities across the state and beyond,” he said.

Abiodun further highlighted the remarkable achievements of the administration in other sectors, including road infrastructure, healthcare, housing, and education.

The Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr Olaolu Olabimtan, in his keynote address, noted that the forum reflected the government’s belief in citizens’ engagement as the bedrock of governance and development.

According to him, the meeting serves as a crucial avenue for inclusive engagement, transparency, and accountability. He assured that the meeting would ensure delivery of quality service and measurable impact across Ogun State, as inputs would guide government decisions on the choice of projects at the grassroots level.

The Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remo land, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, applauded the administration for the successful completion of the Gateway International Airport project, noting that it had positioned Ogun State as a hub for economic growth and investment opportunities.

During the Town Hall Meeting for the Egba Division, the Governor urged residents and stakeholders to continue to partner with the government in building “a state that works for everyone.” Represented by the Commissioner for Finance and Chief Economic Adviser, Mr Dapo Okubadejo , the governor said his administration had, over the years, implemented strategic public financial management reforms aligned with international best practices, ensuring fiscal discipline and effective service delivery.

“Let us continue working together to identify priorities, craft solutions, and build a state that works for everybody,” he urged.

While highlighting remarkable achievements of the administration across critical sectors like infrastructure, healthcare, housing, education, agriculture, security, and youth empowerment, he assured that the government would continue to leverage the ISEYA Development Agenda to guide its policy direction.

He attributed the high performance of the 2025 budget to fiscal discipline, transparency and efficiency. “In the last twelve months, our administration has recorded notable achievements made possible through enhanced fiscal discipline, transparency, and efficiency, which have collectively driven socio-economic progress and laid a solid foundation for sustainable growth,” the governor stated.

Health, they say, is wealth. Demonstrative of the government’s efforts to expand access to healthcare delivery services, Prince Abiodun cited the roll-out of the Ogun State Health Insurance Scheme, the renovation and equipping of primary healthcare facilities, and the installation of solar power systems, among other initiatives, as part of the health sector achievements of the administration.

In furtherance of its priority effort on healthcare delivery,  Governor Abiodun promised budgetary support to boost cancer awareness, early detection, and treatment across the state.

The governor made a pledge when he received a Cancer Awareness and Screening team in Abeokuta during the commissioning of a free Breast Screening, the second of its kind in the country.

The delegation included the wife of the Governor of Imo State, Mrs. Chioma Uzodimma; wife of the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Dr. Zainab Bagudu, who also serves as the President-elect of the Union for International Cancer Control; wife of the Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun; as well as the General Manager of Roche Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Company, and the Ogun State Commissioners for Health and Women Affairs and Social Development, among others.

The Governor emphasised that cancer is no respecter of status, wealth, or affluence, stressing the importance of early detection and treatment to save lives.

“Nothing can be more proactive than ensuring all hands are on deck for early detection and treatment, as some cancer variants are treatable if discovered early,” he said.

The governor assured that the state government would collaborate with relevant stakeholders to strengthen cancer prevention and management, adding that other companies operating within the state would be encouraged to include the establishment of cancer awareness and treatment centres as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

“Government cannot do it alone, and I can confidently assure you that as a state government, we will support you in that regard. We will provide the necessary support, including budgetary provisions, because that is very important,” he stated.

Governor Abiodun also revealed plans to explore the inclusion of cancer screening in the Ogun State Health Insurance Scheme to ensure wider accessibility.

Other than health,  the Governor listed the installation of solar street lights,  deployment of transformers to Communities, recruitment of Amotekun operatives for enhanced security, rehabilitation of science laboratories, renovation of technical colleges and successful hosting of the 2024 Gateway Games as key notable deliverables of the fiscal year.

For food security, Abiodun disclosed that the state had procured modern farm machinery, rehabilitated eight farm settlements, and upgraded the Ogun State Farmers Information Management System (OGFIMS) to a digital platform that enhances market access and supports farmers’ participation in government programmes.

He also revealed plans to transform rural markets such as the Kila Market in Odeda Local Government Area into modern agro-logistics centres aimed at strengthening value chains, improving storage, and reducing post-harvest losses.

As preparations continue for the 2026 Budget, Abiodun said his administration would focus on empowering young people, supporting small businesses, and strengthening social protection systems for vulnerable citizens.

The governor assured residents that their inputs from the 2026 Budget Town Hall Meetings would play a vital role in shaping the next fiscal plan.

He emphasised that the 2026 Budget would consolidate gains in infrastructure, education, healthcare, youth empowerment, and job creation, reflecting citizens’ priorities gathered during the town hall sessions.

Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide commended the governor’s efforts in infrastructure development but urged the state government to engage the federal authorities on the rehabilitation of federal roads within the state.

Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr Olaolu Olabimtan, described the Town Hall Meetings as a vital pillar of participatory governance, transparency, and accountability, saying that the initiative underscores the government’s belief that “meaningful progress begins with the people.”

Traditional rulers, including the Onijale of Ijale Papa, Oba Michael Babalola, and the Olu Siun, Oba Lawrence Odeyinka, lauded the state government for its developmental strides, particularly in road construction, but appealed for more interventions to improve accessibility in their communities.

Meanwhile, Stellar Steel Company Limited, a $450 million steel-producing company, leveraging the conducive environment for investment in the state, has indicated its readiness to begin operations in Ogun State by the middle of 2026.

When it becomes operational, the company is expected to produce hot-rolled coil steel, iron steel doors and gas cylinders, a move projected to significantly reduce Nigeria’s steel import bill.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Vice Chairman of RSIN Group, Mr You Xiaotan, said the project was progressing according to schedule and would be completed next year.

“Stellar Company Limited is the biggest investment for our whole group in Nigeria. We are here to give an update to His Excellency that our project is going very smoothly. We have already finished all the levelling and foundation work, so everything is on schedule.

“The total investment for this project is $450 million, and we will finish the project and commence operations next year,” he said.

Mr Xiaotan further disclosed that more companies from Fujian Province in China are being encouraged to invest in Ogun State due to the state’s rapidly growing economy.

In his remarks, Governor Abiodun pledged continued government support to investors for a seamless operation through streamlined approval processes and efficient issuance of Certificates of Occupancy.

“When the likes of you come here, it validates that we have done all that is needed to attract investors.

Your presence translates to prosperity for our people because you create jobs and increase our Gross Domestic Product.

“Thank you for coming to validate that Ogun State remains the industrial capital of Nigeria. We will continue to provide the necessary support and incentives to ensure your smooth operation,” he said.

Governor Abiodun assured the company of his administration’s willingness to facilitate any waivers, tariffs, or reliefs through the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment to ease the setup process.

The establishment of Stellar Steel Company Limited further strengthens Ogun State’s position as Nigeria’s leading destination for industrial and manufacturing investments.

Abiodun: all parts of Ogun will feel my administration’s presence

    • Work ongoing on four major highways in Ifo-Sango Ota axis
    • Ota-Lafenwa-Ayetoro Road captured in proposed Budget 2026

Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has reassured residents that no part of the state will be left undeveloped.

He promised that ongoing infrastructure upgrade will spread to all communities across the three Senatorial districts.

The government, according to a statement by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, is simultaneously working on four major highways in the Ifo, Sango Ota and Idiroko axis of the state.

He dismissed as mischief the claim in certain quarters that the government had left some bad portions on other roads unattended to, saying that the administration has plans to spread development as dividends of democracy to all parts, including the roads in Lafenwa-Itele Ayetoro areas of the state.

The special adviser noted that the 140-kilometer Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway is being fixed by the state government despited being a federal road.

He added that the, Sango- Ido Iroko, also a Federal Government road,is under construction by the state government.

He added that the government is attending to the Sango-Idiroko Highway, while it had completed about 22 kilometres between Ijoko, Agbado and Alagbole road

“The area being mostly complained about -the Ota-Itele-Lafenwa stretch, which is about 24 kilometres – had been incorporated into the 2026 budget long before social media hoopla” Akinmade clarified in the statement

The decision, he said, was a confirmation of Governor Abiodun’s determination to spread even development to all books and crannies of the state as fast as he is allowed to do by time and resources.

Akinmade further said the underlisted roads have been completed in Ifo- Ado Odo-Ota axis of the State.

    1. Ikorita Meta, Adenrele/Olose Titus Vespa Road (3.1km)

    2. Old Bank Road-Orita Meta – Coker Junction, Olumo Spur Road (1km).

    3. Olusegun Osoba, Toyin, Agbado Road(2.4km).

    13. Lanfenwa – Osi, Ikola Road (7km).

    14. Reconstruction of Bible College, Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government (3.89km).

He said: “While recognizing the rights of the good people of Ogun State to continue to demand for the dividends of democracy, the government warned the public to be wary of the antics of opposition politicians and their quest to call a dog a bad name in other to hang it.

“In its determination to run a transparent and people-driven government, the Dapo Abiodun led administration will never fail to respond to public scrutiny. However, we are not unaware of the ongoing move by political detractors to tarnish the image of the government by whipping up unnecessary incitements.

“The road is in question, like many others in Sango-Ota axis, had been in that deplorable state for many years before the coming of Governor Abiodun. They are part of the huge infrastructure deficit inherited by this administration in 2019.

“Aside from the now trending Ota-Itele-Lafenwa road, other very important roads, including Sango-Ijoko-Agbado-Oke Aro-Lambe-Akute road; Sango Ota-Papalanto-Abeokuta road and Sango-Idiroko road were in terrible states of disrepair when Governor Abiodun took office.

“Today, however, the story is different, as can be attested to by the good people of the area who daily pour prayers and appreciation messages on the current government in the state.

“The Dapo Abiodun administration, rising up to the challenges posed by the huge road deficit in the axis, and moved by the cries of the people, embarked on a massive reconstruction of three out of the four major roads in the axis, almost at the same time. The remaining one, which is the now trending Ota-Itele-Lafenwa, is covered by the 2026 budget.

“The Sango-Ijoko-Agbado-Oke Aro-Lambe-Akute road, which is about 30km; and 140km Sango Ota-Papalanto-Abeokuta road; as well as Sango-Idiroko road that stand at 63km, have all been turned into massive constructions sites where not less than 50 per cent progresses have been made.

“But for the rains, work would have moved on at a much higher pace. Governor Abiodun has never left anyone in doubt of his determination to work assiduously till the very last minute of his tenure. The good people of Ogun State should be rest assured that the ongoing widespread development that is sweeping across the state will not exclude any part of the state.

“At a time when our dear state is in the news for numerous never-seen-before feats, including a world class airport, a global standard Sports Complex, the largest cement factory in West Africa, and many others, we must not lose sight of the many reasons to be proud of our home state due to the antics of a few naysayers.”

This is contained in separate letters sent to  the governor, Senator for Ogun West, Olamilekan Solomon Adeola (Yayi), Senator for Ogun Central, Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, and Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Olusegun Elemide.A

Copies of the letters jointly signed by SUG President, David Dokunmu and General Secretary, Zainab Ajisafe, said the Osiele Road, which is the primary gateway linking the state capital, Abeokuta, to the college, is in a deplorable condition, posing grave danger to students, staff and other commuters.

“Your Excellency, this road is the primary gateway linking Abeokuta from Ibadan. Sadly, it has fallen into disrepair, posing daily hazards to students, staff, indigenes, and motorists. • Abiodun congratulates Foursquare Church, seeks collaboration to tackle poverty

Abiodun congratulates Foursquare Church, seeks collaboration to tackle poverty

OGUN State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has congratulated  Foursquare Christian Church on its  70th anniversary and  called on the church not to relent in being the salt and light of Nigeria especially in times when moral values are under siege.

The governor stated this at the 12th Annual Lecture of Foursquare Christian Church titled: “Poverty Alleviation, Economic Development, and Stability of the Nigerian Economy.”

The lecture held at the Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos was part of activities marking the 70th anniversary of the church.

The governor, who was the chairman of the occasion noted that  the cooperation of faith-based institutions, wealthy individuals, and corporate entities with the government is needed to break the cycle of poverty in the country.

He emphasized that the theme of the public lecture is apt as poverty is currently confronting many nations, including Nigeria, emphasizing that to defeat poverty, all hands must be on deck, as government alone cannot do it.

“As leaders, whether in government, the church, or the private sector, we must collaborate to break this cycle. Poverty is not just an economic statistic; it is a human reality.

“Poverty alleviation is a collective responsibility. Faith-based organizations, private sector players, and community leaders must join hands with us to provide education, vocational training, mentorship, and micro-financing.

“This collaboration not only uplifts individuals but also fosters resilience in communities, making them less vulnerable to poverty and social disabilities.

“Furthermore, the Pentecostal Church can help strengthen moral capital, which is very essential for sustainable development through its emphasis on discipline, stewardship, and accountability.

“Economic stability must be anchored on inclusive growth where opportunities are extended to all citizens, especially the vulnerable,” he said.

Economic development and stability, the governor pointed out, are two sides of the same coin, stressing that without stability, development would be short-lived and poverty would persist.

He admonished the Church to use its teachings and actions to inspire values of hard work, integrity, and accountability, noting that the church could mobilize support for social change, serve as a bridge between citizens and government, and provide support systems that empower families and strengthen society.

“As Nigeria continues its journey towards development and stability, we need the church more than ever to stand in the gap through fervent prayers, sound teaching of God’s word, and exemplary leadership,” he added.

The governor said his administration has embarked on various empowerment programs for women, farmers, and youths, as well as providing free health services to the vulnerable to cope with the current economic realities.

In his speech, the General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church, Pastor Sam Aboyeji, noted that the public lecture is part of the church’s platforms to discuss national issues aimed at finding solutions to the nation’s problems.

He commended Governor Abiodun for demonstrating consistency in the state’s socio-economic development, maintaining that his investment in infrastructure, agriculture, education, youth empowerment, among others, as well as poverty alleviation, has lifted the state to a higher pedestal.

In a lecture titled: “Poverty Alleviation, Economic Development, and Stability of the Nigerian Economy,” the guest lecturer and former Economic Adviser to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, Dr. Doyin Salami, said though various reforms had been carried out in the past to bring the nation’s economy out of the woods, they have not yielded the desired results.

Dr. Salami observed that Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China were on par in the past in terms of development; however, he stated that the Chinese have made tremendous progress in the last 30 years, hence the need for Nigeria to do away with soft reforms and embrace hard reforms.

He contended that though the nation’s economy is growing in nominal terms, the growth picture is not appealing, as an increase in investments does not stimulate and drive growth.

The former Economic Adviser said for the country to experience economic stability and growth, a reliable data framework, secure environment, provision of adequate electricity, quality education and health, as well as human capital development, must be put in place.

He proposed a seven-year tenure for elective officials to enable them to focus on tackling the various challenges facing the country, as the current arrangement does not allow for concentration on governance.

    Abiodun meets Awujale transition council

Ogun governor, Dapo Abiodun, has met with the body overseeing traditional and administrative matters during the transition period of installing a new Awujale of Ijebu-Ode.

According to Rasak Sekoni, Information Officer at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the meeting took place on Friday in Abeokuta.

While receiving the Transition Council in Abeokuta, Abiodun said the installation of an Awujale required a detailed and carefully coordinated process.

He recalled that inaugurating the Council in August was necessary to sustain the traditional and administrative roles long associated with the Awujale Palace.

The governor was represented by the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Ganiyu Hamzat.

Abiodun assured government support, stressing that the Council’s success was crucial to sustaining the legacy of late Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona.

He urged the Council to be united, fair and unbiased in discharging their responsibilities in the collective interest of all stakeholders.

Abiodun further charged members to maintain neutrality when the process of filling the Awujale’s vacant stool formally begins. (NAN)

Create ICT ministry, Ogun tech stakeholders urge Gov Abiodun

Stakeholders in the Ogun State technology ecosystem have urged the governor, Dapo Abiodun, to establish a dedicated Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, arguing that only a formal, institutional focus can transform the state’s promising digital talent and infrastructure into sustainable economic growth.

The Ogun tech community, a coalition of technology professionals, startups, innovation hubs, and digital advocates across the state, said the delay in establishing an ICT-focused ministry is undermining Ogun’s ability to leverage federal digital initiatives and take advantage of national policies such as the Nigeria Startup Act.

The group urged the state government to rename the existing Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to the Ministry of Education and establish a new Ministry of ICT that would focus exclusively on the digital transformation of the state.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by its president, Durosinmi Adekunle, the group said that despite Ogun State producing two leading tech policy figures, Dr. Bosun Tijani, who is Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, and Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, who is Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, the state has not turned this advantage into real progress locally.

“Ogun State has the innovators, the talent, and the national representation to lead Nigeria’s digital economy. What is missing is the institutional structure to harness these opportunities.

“A Ministry of ICT will allow Ogun State to align with federal initiatives, implement crucial policies like the Startup Act, and fully develop Silicon Hill—our own Silicon Valley—to nurture globally competitive tech talent,” Durosinmi said in the statement.

The group expressed concern that without a clear administrative and policy framework driven by a dedicated ICT ministry, Ogun would continue to lose out on critical programmes, funding, and partnerships being rolled out at the national level.

The tech community noted that several states are already positioning themselves as tech hubs through proactive government structures, while Ogun, once considered a natural contender, is at risk of being left behind.

Referencing the creation of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy by the Federal Government, the Ogun tech community argued that states need to follow suit if they are to tap into the benefits of Nigeria’s digital transformation strategy.

The community stressed that many national digital initiatives are structured in ways that require direct state-level institutional collaboration, something Ogun currently lacks.

The statement added, “There is a growing digital gap, and if we don’t address it urgently, the state will be left out of the future of work, digital entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment.”

The call comes amid rising agitation among Nigeria’s tech ecosystem for stronger state-level policy implementation of the Nigeria Startup Act, which was signed into law in 2022 to promote innovation, provide tax incentives, and support young startups across the country.

Ogun tech stakeholders argued that the absence of a dedicated ministry has made it difficult for the state to take advantage of these opportunities.

The community emphasised that a Ministry of ICT would not only serve as a channel for federal policies and donor support but also drive homegrown initiatives that could transform education, governance, health, agriculture, and job creation in the state through technology.

The group reiterated its readiness to support the government in developing the blueprint for the ministry, promising full collaboration from stakeholders across the ICT value chain in Ogun State.

“We are calling on His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, to take decisive action. The time to act is now. Ogun cannot afford to watch other states take the lead in digital governance while we lag behind,” the statement concluded.
