    Court imprisons three vagrants for criminal trespass

    A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced three vagrants to three months imprison each for trespass.

    The convicts: Sani Yusuf, Yunusa Abdullahi, and Abbas Nafiu, all of Jabi Motor Park by Delta Line, Abuja, were convicted after they pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.

    The convicts were sentenced on a two-count charge of criminal trespass and attempt to commit theft.

    The judge, Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave each of the convict an option to pay N5, 000  fine, and warned them to desist from committing crime.

    The prosecutor, Dalhatu Zannah, had told the court that one Lawal Mohammed of Jabi Motor Park, Abuja, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on Feb. 9.

    Zannah said that the convicts criminally trespassed into the park at about 3: a.m. and attempted to steal valuable items.

    He told the court that, when the vigilance group arrested the convicts they could not give  satisfactory account of themselves.

    The prosecution counsel said that the convicts made confessional statements during police investigations and the offences contravened Sections, 348 and 95 of the Penal Code.

    Court jails fake policeman in Abuja

    A Karmo Area Court, Abuja, on Friday sentenced a driver, Nura Mohammed to four months in prison for dishonestly parading himself as a policeman.

    Mohammed, who has no fixed address, was convicted on a charge of impersonation.

    The Judge, Abubakar Sadiq, handed down the punishment after Mohammed pleaded guilty to a count charge leveled against him and begged the court for leniency.

    Sadiq, however, gave Mohammed an option of N10, 000 as fine and warned him to desist from committing crime.

    The prosecutor, Dalhatu Zannah, told the court that the Police Crime Prevention Unit led by Asp. David Daru attached to Life Camp Police, arrested and brought Mohammed to the Station on Feb. 1.

    Zannah said on the same date, at about 11: 30 p.m. when a team of police men raided a black spot, along Daki Biyu Village, Jabi, Mohammed was found conducting himself in a questionable manner.

    He said the convict had introduced himself as a police officer and showed a warrant card with his passport photograph bearing the name of Cpl. Abubakar Suleman with police number 507645.

    The prosecutor told the court that in the photograph, the convict was dressed in a full police uniform.

    He however said in the course of investigation, it was discovered that Mohammed had never enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force.

    The prosecutor said the convict refused to inform the police where he got the said uniform and warrant card he use for his criminal activities.

    Court jails two men six months each for stealing

     A Karma Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced two men, Richard Christian and Komolafe Shegun, to six months imprisonment each for stealing seven cell phones in a church.

    Christian and Shegun, both 24, were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, offences they admitted committing, and begged for leniency.

    The judge, Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave each of the convicts an option of N20, 000 fines and warned them to desist from committing crime.

    Prosecutor Dalhatu Zannah, had told the court that the convicts committed the offences on Feb. 2, at the Mountain of Fire Ministry Church, Utako, Abuja.

    He said that one Miceal Idikuiri of the Mountain of Fire Ministry Church, Utako reported the matter at the Utako Police Station.

    Zannah said the convicts dishonestly entered into the church premises at about 4:36 a.m. and stole the seven cell phones belonging to worshipers.

    The prosecutor said that the convicts admitted committing the offences during interrogation.
    He said the offences contravened Sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code. NAN

    Court jails tricycle rider for dangerous riding

    A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Friday sentenced a 26-year-old tricycle rider, Nnadozie Friday, to one month imprisonment for dangerous riding.

    The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option to pay N10,000 fine.

    “Ride carefully, there are other people using the public road,” he said.

    Sadiq advised the convict to desist from committing crimes, adding that the sentence would serve as deterrent to others.

    Friday, who resides at Dape village, Abuja, was convicted on a four-count charge bordering on dangerous riding, causing obstruction on public high way, driving without national driver’s licence and expired certificate of road worthiness.

    The convict, who pleaded guilty to the offence, urged the court to temper justice with mercy that he did not realise he was riding dangerously.

    The Prosecutor, Florence Avhioboh, had told the court that he did not allow flow of traffic and he was arrested by the police on Oct. 13, and taken to Karmo Police Station.

    She said during police investigation, they discovered that all his papers had expired.

    The prosecutor said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 18, 39, 7 and 19 of the Road Traffic Act.

    A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a 25-year-old man, Paul Obijaku, to 12 months imprisonment for stealing a cell phone valued at N38,000.

    Court docks man for dangerous driving

    The police on Thursday arraigned a 30-year-old driver, Daniel Onuh in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, over dangerous driving.

    Onuh, who resides at Daki-Biyu, Abuja, is facing two-count charge.

    The prosecutor, Florence Avhioboh, told the court that the defendant allegedly drove a Toyota Camry car in a dangerous manner along Obafemi Awolowo Express Way Abuja on Sept. 10.

    Avhioboh said Onuh drove from speed lane to service lane and run into Joshua Abotal of University of Abuja and damaged his car and it would cost N300,000 to fix it.

    The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 18 and 29 and of the Road Traffic Act.

    However, the defendant denied committing the offences and the judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 and a surety in like sum.

    Sadiq ordered that the defendant’s car be kept in police station.

    He said the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must present utility bill carrying his name as he adjourned the case until Oct. 30 for further hearing.

    Court docks scavenger for stealing pipes

    A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday, sentenced a scavenger, Gadafi Bala, to one month in prison for stealing pipes.

    Bala, 28, of Dakwa in Niger State, was sentenced on a three-count charge of criminal trespass, mischief and theft.

    The presiding officer, Abubakar Sadiq, gave the sentence after Bala pleaded guilty to the charge.

    Sadiq, who did not give the convict any fine option, warned him against committing crimes after his prison term.

    Earlier, the prosecutor, Florence Avhioboh, told the court that the matter was reported at Gwagwa Police Station, Abuja, by Meshack Yakubu of Saburi, Abuja, on Sept. 29.

    Avhioboh said Bala criminally trespassed into an uncompleted building where Yakubu work as security guard on the same date at about 2 a.m. and stole water pipes.

    She added that the convict intentionally went to the uncompleted building and stole the installed water pipes but was caught in the process.

    She said the convict had admitted committing the offence, even though some of the pipes valued N5,000 were damaged.

    Late Mohammed: I have lost a colleague in war and peace – Buhari

    President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed deep pain and sorrow over the death of the former Military Administrator of Kaduna State, retired Air Vice Marshal Mukhtar Mohammed.

    The President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, said the president made his feelings known in a letter he wrote to the governments of Jigawa and Kano States.

    He said the letter was handed to Gov. Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa by a Federal Government delegation on Thursday.

    In the letter, President Buhari revealed the intimate nature of the relationship between him and the deceased military top brass, saying he had lost a friend in peace and in war.

    “The delegation, which was led by the Chief of Staff in the Presidency, Abba Kyari with four ministers and three presidential aides, was in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital where a similar letter of condolence signed by the President was handed over to the Emir, Dr Muhammadu Sunusi,’’ the statement said.

    The presidential aide said the team was also in Kano where they met both the Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje and the Emir Muhammadu Sunusi II before participating in the funeral prayers which took place at night due to the late arrival of the body from United Kingdom.

    President Buhari’s condolence letter said, “Late Mukhtar was my friend in war and in peace. He was a brilliant Air Force officer, a good administrator and a patriot.

    “All those who came in contact with him have recognized him as a brave man of vision and energy. These qualities he brought to bear in his service to Nigeria.

    ““In politics, he was dogged and determined to enthrone a good government, to clean up government business and establish democracy and rule of law.

    “The late Waziri was a highly intelligent person and very brave in the face of challenges. He was prepared, and did leave his post on a point of honor and principle. He was a worthy and a true son of Nigeria.’’

    The two state Governors and the Emirs praised the the exemplary qualities the late military officer and thanked the President for standing by their people in their hour of trial.

    The federal government delegation included the Ministers of Interior, retired Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau; Defence, retired Brig. Gen. Mansur Dan-Ali; Education, Adamu Adamu and the Minister of State, Aviation, Hadi Sirika.

    Others were the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Abubakar Sadiq, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media, Garba Shehu, that of Special Duties, Ya’u Darazo, Sha’aban Sharada and Musa Daura, a nephew of the President.

    Late Muhammad, who was the Wazirin Dutse in Jigawa, died on Sunday in a London hospital after a protracted illness.

    Court jails Ex-convict over motorcycle theft

    A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Friday sentenced a 34-year-old ex-convict, Friday Glory, to eighteen​ months imprisonment for being in possession of a stolen motorcycle.

    The convict, of no fixed address, was convicted on a two-count charge of possessing property reasonable suspected to be stolen and for being an incorrigible vagabond.

    Glory had pleaded guilty to the charge, saying he acted out of ignorance and urged the court to temper justice with mercy.

    He also promised to be of good behaviour and get a decent job.

    The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, did not give the convict any option of fine and said the sentence was to serve as deterrent to other habitual offenders.

    The prosecutor, Florence Avhioboh, had earlier told the court that Glory was arrested on Sept. 23, trying to sell a Jincheng motorcycle to one Zaharadeen Abubakar of Karmo Panteka Junction.

    The convict was later taken to Karmo Police Station where he confessed that he stole the motorcycle from Kado village, Abuja.

    The prosecutor said that the offence was punishable under Sections 319 and 407 of the Penal Code.

    Man jailed for stealing fan

    A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a 23-year-old man, Abubakar Joseph, to four months imprisonment for stealing a standing fan.

    Joseph, of no fixed address, had pleaded guilty to a count charge of stealing, contrary to Section 287 of the Penal Code.

    The Judge, Abubakar Sadiq, in his judgment, said the defendant admitted committing the offence and the court had no option than to sentence him accordingly.

    He said that the punishment would serve as deterrent to other would be offenders.

    The Prosecutor, Florence Auhioboh, had told the court that one Garba Yusuf of Road 351, Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja, reported the matter at the Gwarinpa Police Station on Sept. 25.

    Auhioboh told the court that at about 11 p.m. the convict dishonestly and smartly trespassed into Yusuf’s compound through the fence.

    He said the convict stole Yusuf’s standing fan and his car engine fan worth N20,000, but he was apprehended with the items.

    She said during police investigation and interrogation, Joseph admitted committing the offence.
