    Jonathan attributes peace to prayers

President Goodluck Jonathan has attributed the relative peace in the country to prayers offered by different religious faiths.

The President made the disclosure on Sunday at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Olive Tree Parish, Ikoyi, Lagos, where he attended Church service.

The service was attended by the General Overseer of the Church, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, his wife, Pastor Folu, and the Resident Pastor and former Attorney-General of Lagos State, Pastor Yemi Osinbajo (SAN).

The First Lady of Lagos State, Mrs. Abimbola Fashola, the Deputy Governor of the state, Mrs. Adejoke Adefulire were also at the service.

Also at the service was Ms Olajumoke Akinjide, the Minister of State for FCT and the Supervising Minister of Police Affairs.

President Jonathan said the country had experienced unfair share of global terror but remained united and unshaken because of the prayers of faithfuls.

“I want to thank all of you for your prayers for this country. I thank Christians and other religious groups who prayed for this country, especially at the period the whole world is facing a lot of challenges.

“You will agree with me that whenever you tune your television, especially the international news centres like CNN, Aljazeera or Sky news, you always see breaking news.

“All the breaking news are always negative, you hardly see any positive breaking news all over the world.

“In Nigeria too, we have been having our own unfair share of these negative news brought about by Boko Haram, but we believe that God knows it all. Without your prayers, probably it will have been worse than this,’’ the News Agency of Nigeria quoted President Jonathan as saying at the service.

The President, who said God had been faithful to Nigeria, added that “God will continue to hear our prayers so that our country will get out of these challenges and other crimes.’’

Jonathan specifically thanked Pastor Adeboye and the Redeemed family for the 100 days fasting and prayers declared since January, saying “for the Redeemed family, we have to sincerely thank you because you declared 100 days of fasting which is not an easy task.

“Even to keep faith with the orthodox 40 days fasting during the lent period which I also participate, it is not easy.

“You fasted not because of your personal interests, but for the country. I have to thank the General Overseer and all of you who have been fasting. May God answer our prayers.’’

Pastor Adeboye said the Church would continue to seek the face of God for the country and its leadership.

  • How to be free, by Adeboye

Students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State, gathered last week at the Miracle Ground of the University’s Sports’ Centre for the Annual UniversityThanksgiving and New Year Revival.

The programme with the theme “Escape for your life” was organised by the University Christian Mobilisation Committee.

The Guest Minister, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God explained that to escape means to flee bondage, noting that there was urgent need for the audience to be free from the bondage of sin, poverty, blindness, sorrow and hopelessness.

“To escape means one has been captured and seeks to look for means to be free without the consent of the captor. It is a dangerous thing to be in bondage, it is a life of hell on earth,” Adeboye said.

He charged the students to shun evil practices and embrace the righteousness of God, saying it was the proper way to live.

“I can assure you that your tomorrow will be all right if you are righteous. You will also be bold to go through life challenges,’ he said.

Speaking to CAMPUSLIFE, Ayomide Faloye, 100-Level Pharmacy said: “This is not just like every other annual event, but a heart-lifting programmewhere the fullness of God is manifested.”

  • Adeboye prays for first-borns

THE General Overseer (GO) of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, will hold a special prayer and thanksgiving service for firstborn children on Sunday, February 2, 2014, at the National Headquarters, 1-9, Redemption Way, Ebutte-Metta, Lagos. Adeboye made this known at a press conference at the Conference Hall of the National Headquarters, Throne of Grace, Ebutte-Metta, Lagos. The programme, tagged: ‘Born to excel’, will bring together about 10,000 Christian faithful from across the country. It will feature prayers, bible teaching, song rendition and prophetic ministration. Adeboye, who was represented by the Assistant Pastor in Charge of Lagos Province 1, (Corporate Social Responsibility), Pastor Samuel Olaniyan, said that the purpose of the programme is to offer special prayers for the recovering of destinies of first-borns in Nigeria. According to him, firstborns occupy a special place in the family, and is supposed to be the spiritual head, while others look up to him for guidance, direction and mentoring. But they are usually marked down by the devil to scuttle their destiny and reduce them to nothing.

•Pastor Adeboye pulls a great crowd of the faithful again at the church convention

The ordination of over 10,000 pastors by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) at its 61st annual convention draws the church closer to fulfilling the purpose of its mission statement. The yearly event, which took place at the expansive Redemption Camp on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway drew Christian faithful from all over the world and from different Christian denominations.

Speaking on “Change”, the theme of the convention, the church’s general overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, a mathematics lecturer at the University of Lagos before he was sought out by Josiah Akindayomi, founder of the church went down memory lane: “Before I became born-again, I had a lot of friends. They would always branch at my house to enjoy the type of life we used to live. But as soon as I became born-again, though they were still coming, initially, my offer would not satisfy them and they all ran away.

“But look at you, the multitude of friends God has given me in their stead.

Therefore, you lose nothing when you give your life to Jesus and become His friend.”

The mission statement of one of the world’s fastest growing and most influential churches is to ensure that its members rejoice with Jesus Christ in heaven; towards this end, the RCCG wants as many as possible of its members to sit at the table with Jesus Christ at the last supper. It also wants every family in all countries to wear the RCCG badge.

Since he joined the church in 1973, initially as an interpreter to the church’s founder, Adeboye, who was ordained as a pastor in 1975, has proved beyond doubt that he is a true man of God.

Although he speaks truth to power, he believes that should be done away from the prying eyes of the media. As a man who is a cross between the ancient and modern school of theology, Adeboye takes to heart Saint Paul’s injunction to the Romans: “let every soul be subject to the higher powers, for there is no power but of God; the powers that are ordained by God.”

For him, Christians should be exemplary citizens, showing respect to those in positions of authority. Adeboye has lent the weight of his office to, among others, ministering to the spiritual needs of the nation. If some Nigerians have not gone violent in protesting government’s misrule, if there have not been outright sabotage of government’s policies and programmes; if some Nigerians continue to feed on hope of a better tomorrow, the credit goes to the Adeboyes.

One of the major highlights of the 61st annual convention was the announcement by ‘Daddy G.O’., as Adeboye is fondly called, of plans by the church to build a new auditorium stretching three kilometres in length and breadth. He appealed for donations for the new auditorium so that the project could be completed before next year’s convention. He pleaded with some of his friends who could support him with N1billion or N500milion to see his secretary. He also called on those who could help with N50million to assist.

Regular visitors to the monthly Holy Ghost service of the church will no doubt appreciate the need for the new auditorium. Every first Friday of the month, thousands of worshippers congregate at the Redemption Camp for the Holy Ghost service and the camp is the Mecca for many Christians from all over the world for the yearly Holy Ghost Congress.

As the church embarks on what promises to be a very big and comfortable house for God, we join millions of Redeemers to congratulate it. We enjoin builders of the new edifice not to overlook the basic convenience of worshippers. At the last convention, many congregants turned open grounds to convenience spots. Small matters like adequate and clean conveniences, the issue of environmental sanitation of the camp should be accorded the deserved attention. Once again, congratulations for a spiritual experience.

Gbenga Adeboye’s widow, battles hard times

LARA Adeboye, rememeber her? She is the widow of the late ace broadcaster, Gbenga Adeboye, aka Funwontan. Sources informed us that Lara is now a shadow of herself and seems to have fallen on hard times.

After the demise of her hubby, she was romantically linked with Lukmon Ajuwon, the Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in Ajuwon, Iju – a Lagos suburb. And things were definitely taking shape for her, until she fell out with her lover boy.

It was widely reported that she got married to a civil servant in Abeokuta, but all that seems to have gone awry too as sources revealed that she is now back in Lagos and things are not really rosy for her again.

Adeboye kicks against same sex marriage

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has frowned at same sex marriage in some countries.

He insisted that the practice should not allowed in Nigeria.

Adeboye, at the New Year Thanksgiving by the Joint Christian Mission of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, said same sex marriage was capable of wiping out human race within just 20 years of its practice.

The cleric, who described same sex marriage as anathema to God’s will and instruction, said the will of God for human being is to be fruitful, replenish and multiply on earth.

He said anything contrary to God’s will for mankind is devilish.

He said: “How can a man who marries a fellow man produces a child and how can a woman who marries a woman produces a child? If this evil is allowed to stay, there will not be new born babies again in the world.

“As the older generation dies, would there be a new generation to succeed? Even plants and animals have new generation to succeed them. So those indulging in the act which should repent and turn to God.”

Adeboye, who prayed for peace and stability of the country, urged Nigerians to walk in the ways of God this year and shun all evil acts which may influence the wrath of God on the nation.

Adeboye urges politicians to take precaution against disasters

The General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, yesterday warned politicians to learn from last year’s disasters and take precaution, to avert bigger ones.

Releasing his prophesies for 2013 at a crossover service to usher worshippers into the New Year at the Redemption Camp, he said there could be more devastating natural disasters, such as flood, if precautionary measures are not taken.

Describing 2013 as a year of signs and wonders, Pastor Adeboye said: “This year will be better than last year.”

According to him, before the middle of the year,

many Nigerians would have cause to smile, adding that prayers and supplication should, however, be intensified.

He told the worshippers that God spared the lives

of some individuals last year because of the intercessory prayers of the saints, noting that “the prayers of some of you reduced the deaths of prominent Nigerians last year. Don’t stop praying.”

    Pastor Adeboye said:

“This year will be a year of completeness.”

    The cleric said prominent

world leaders need a lot of prayers to avoid death.

He said prominent church leaders also need prayers against planned scandals, adding that the weather condition may worsen unless prayers are intensified.

Adeboye went on: “We should expect a major breakthrough in medicine this year.

“Christians should cultivate the habit of praising God. Praise is a tool for receiving signs and wonders. One can pray and study the Bible in silence, but no one can praise God in silence.”

The congregation applauded when he said: “You can never praise God quietly.

“If they say we are crazy for shouting Hallelujah in our environment and wherever we find ourselves, then it is a good kind of craziness.”

While assuring worshippers that 2013 is a year of open doors, Pastor Adeboye said it is one thing to enter into a New Year, it’s another thing to have a new beginning.

He urged Nigerians to reconcile with God by living a righteous life.
