One of the leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun West Senatorial District, Ayodele Asaolu, has called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to address the shortage of teachers in public schools by recruiting more educators.

He noted that Ejigbo Local Government schools were among the worst affected.

According to him, “We need to make education a right and not a privilege. I will encourage the government of Osun State to do more for education. The truth must be said the government has not really done well in terms of education in the state.

“We have schools in Ejigbo that do not have teachers, I want to appeal to them to come to our aid, let them employ more teachers. In the last two to three years, this government has not employed any teachers compared to Oyo State where they are employing teachers massively. We are appealing to government to do something about it.”

He urged both federal and state governments to collaborate to promote education in the country to tackle out-of-school children.

The Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Rasheed Olabomi, yesterday denied claims that he was inciting the public against Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and his executive council (exco), over his approval of a new Chieftaincy Law for his community.

The monarch said his only plea to Governor Adeleke to rescind his approval of the new law for the town was misconstrued by mischief makers.

The Nation reports that Adeleke approved a new Chieftaincy Law, which included Lagbua Ruling House, among royal families, hence, Oba Olabomi kicked against it, noting that the decision might cause crisis in his domain.

The monarch, addressing reporters in his palace yesterday, said his protest against the decision of Adeleke was not inciting, but to express his displeasure, which was supported by democracy.

He said: “I have high regard for Governor Adeleke and the exco. Hence, I could not have contemplated disrespecting constituted authority.

Chieftaincy law: Ruling house warns Aragbiji over alleged threat to Adeleke

    …urges Tinubu to intervene

A ruling house, Lagbua of Iragbiji Town in Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State has cautioned Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Rasheed Olabomi to desist from issuing threats against Governor Ademola Adeleke for approving new Chieftaincy law for the community.

The Nation reports that following the approval of Governor Adeleke of the new Chieftaincy law which included Lagbua Ruling House, Oba Olabomi said the decision may set his domain on fire, noting that the move is purely political.

Rising from the Lagbua ruling house meeting held on Saturday, one of the heads of the family, Barrister Adeleke Adeyemo urged President Bola Tinubu, Inspector General of Police and other security heads, to call Aragbiji to order over his statement.

He explained that the Lagbua family (Oso descendant) was the first settler who founded Iragbiji and later accommodated his younger brother(Owa) years later.

He said the Lagbua(Oso) family has five compounds including Ajibolu (Ooye), Olupejobi, Oluode, Odogun and Elemo Osho while Owa has four.

He explained that two royal families of Oso and Owa had been rotating the seat of Baale of Iragbiji till 1934 when the Judicial Council of Ibadan crowned Oloyede Dada of Owa as the first Aragbiji, hence they ought to rotate the royal seat.

Adeyemo remarked that the first draft of the Aragbiji Chieftaincy Declaration of 1951 made the Oso second on the list which was affirmed by the Ifelodun District Council through a letter dated Saturday 2nd June, 1956.

Meanwhile, he said, in 1957, the Lagbua(Oso-the first settler) family was removed from the declaration because of some interest which successive government conducted enquiries and favoured them (Oso) but was truncated before implementation.

Adeyemo disclosed that the government of Olagunsoye Oyinlola set up a panel which recommended that Lagbua must be included in the Chieftaincy law in its report submitted on July 28th 2010 but before approval government changed hands.

“Aregbesola’s administration in a letter dated April 3rd 2013 rejected the panel’s recommendation without any basis and also failed to reply to the letter written by our lawyer till the tenure expired.”

The ruling house said the government of Ademola Adeleke implemented the report of the Judicial Panel of 2010 at the State Executive Council meeting and commended the gesture, describing it as justice for Lagbua.

He said: “Governor Adeleke served justice on this matter and communicated the verdict. We call on President Bola Tinubu, security operatives to call Oba Rasheed Olabomi to order as his actions and statements were full of threats to cause violence in Iragbiji and full of attacks on the government.”

Meanwhile, Osun State Government through its Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, Dosu Babatunde debunked claims of Aragbiji that the approval was political.
