BREAKING: Stay away from LG secretariats, Adeleke tells newly elected chairmen, councillors

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed the newly elected local government chairmen and councillors to stay away from their respective secretariats to prevent clashes with those allegedly occupying the offices illegally.

Speaking on Sunday at the swearing-in ceremony held at Government House, Oke-Fia, Osogbo, Adeleke commended the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) for adhering to due process in conducting the elections.

Addressing concerns over legal disputes surrounding the polls, the governor noted that while controversies existed, his administration was confident of acting within the rule of law and the constitution.

He congratulated the newly elected local government officials and urged them to focus on delivering good governance in line with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) manifesto.

    • …’situation warrants a state of emergency’

Former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has criticised Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, for allegedly conducting illegal chairmanship and councillorship elections across the state’s 30 local government areas.

Omisore accused the governor and the state electoral commission of staging a fictitious election to fill non-existent vacancies, disregarding legal rulings.

He warned that Adeleke’s actions could create unrest severe enough to warrant a state of emergency.

In a statement, Omisore described the Osun government as lawless, stating that it ignored legal advice and violated a court judgment.

He stressed that the Court of Appeal had reinstated the 30 council chairmen and their councillors, making any new election unnecessary and unlawful.

He further alleged that Adeleke’s determination to hold the elections stemmed from an ambition to control and misuse council funds.

According to Omisore, the state electoral commission’s role in the exercise was a “show of shame” orchestrated by the governor.

He maintained that the election was fraudulent and would not withstand legal scrutiny.

Omisore said: “Disobeying court orders and judgement, wasting Osun state resources, desperately influencing the judiciary to sit over superior court decision and turning deaf ears to the wise counsel, Adelele has committed a heinous crime against democracy and humanity.”

He said if there is a breakdown of law and order in the State of Living Springs, the governor should be held responsible.

Omisore added:”Adeleke acted against commonsense. He has set the stage for the breakdown of law and order. God will not allow it. The governor is inviting a declaration of a state of emergency in Osun. The whole exercise was a shameless charade and dancing taken too far.”

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, have traded words over plan to enforce the verdict of Court of Appeal reinstating sacked elected All Progressives Congress (APC) council executives.

The Nation recalls that the Appeal Court reinstated the council executives, who were elected in 2022, but were sacked by Governor Adeleke after a Federal High Court declared their election as null and void.

Adeleke, briefing reporters at the Government House, Oke-Fia, Osogbo alongside the Attorney-General, Oluwole Jimi-Bada and Information Commissioner, Kolapo Alimi, alleged that Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, had hijacked the security of the state.

According to him, “I am here to alert the national and global audience about a deliberate plot to create chaos and anarchy in Osun State. I am to expose a fascist anti-democratic agenda designed to enforce a non-existing court judgment on our local governments.

Osun APC faults Adeleke’s alleged resistance to reinstated LG chairmen

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday criticized Governor Ademola Adeleke for resisting the takeover of local government councils by sacked executives recently reinstated by the Court of Appeal.

APC State Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, insisted that Adeleke should comply with the court’s verdict rather than opposing the reinstatement. He emphasized that the rule of law must prevail, urging the governor to ensure full implementation of the judgment.

He said: “Rather than stoking crisis in the state, the most honourable thing for Governor Ademola Adeleke to do is to comply with the court order and give protection to the reinstated council Chairmen and Councillors.

He noted: “As a responsible party, we have been civil and law abiding that is why we have been seeking every legal means to ensure that the law take its due course.

He alleged that Peoples Democratic Party PDP-led government under Governor Ademola Adeleke has deployed media tactic to mislead members of the public in the state to continue disobeding a valid Appeal Court judgment which reinstated the lawfully elected local government officers.“

Lawal said that the verdict will be implemented no matter the sentiment.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has raised the alarm over reports of a plot by elements within the opposition parties to launch attacks on local government secretariats across the state, including onslaught on leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and top government officials.

In a statement yesterday in Osogbo, the governor said the evil agenda was designed to disrupt the forthcoming local government elections and create an atmosphere of chaos, to push for the declaration of a state of emergency.

The governor, who described Osun as one of the most peaceful states, decried the reprehensible desperation among the opposition, especially the All Progressives Congress (APC), which was manifesting in their concoction of fake court rulings, deliberate fabrication of fake news and condemnable building of false narratives, instead of facing the electorate on February 22.

Adeleke said there was a subsisting court judgment secured by the APP, which nullified the kangaroo local government election held in 2022, adding that the judgment remained valid in law and reality.

The statement affirmed that the judgment of a Court of Appeal in Akure was about the filing of court processes by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which had nothing to do with the subsisting judgment that sacked the illegally elected council chairmen and councillors of the APC.

Following spate of communal clashes and crisis over chieftaincy matters in Osun State, the National Secretary of All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru said Governor Ademola Adeleke has lost grip on security of the State.

The Nation reports that communities like Ifon and Ilobu; Ido-Osun and Halleluyah; Ede and Ebedi; Esa-Oke and Ido-Ajegunle; Iragbiji; Igbajo and Iree among others have been ensnared in land tussles or Chieftaincy matters leading to loss of lives and properties in the last one year.

Rising from a recent communal clash where seven policemen were shot and four persons killed, Basiru in a chat with reporters in Osogbo, berated Adeleke’s government for losing grip over the security situation in the State.

He said: “The Governor is only giving false hope to residents of the state he is in control but he is not. It is glaring that he is not with a series of communal clashes characterised by killing, maiming, arson, and loss of properties among others.

“Unfortunately, Adeleke is majorly the precipitator of these clashes and wrangling because he approved controversial chieftaincy matters to cause issues in peaceful domains.”

“Protection of life and property should be paramount to any responsible government but Adeleke has failed that, he also failed in other areas.

“I can assure you that APC will end all these shenanigans of Adeleke’s reign in 2026 and Osun State will be the most peaceful state in Nigeria again like the days of progressives.”

But Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi berated Basiru, noting that Adeleke is in charge..

He said: “It is quite unfortunate that Basiru is playing politics with this matter. Adeleke visited all these places and also set panel of enquiries to resolve the matter. The accusations are useless, fallacious and laughable. Adeleke is not the cause of all the crisis.”
