  • Foreign schools advises Nigerian students

Six universities from the US and UK stormed Lagos for the Linden Boarding School expo which was organized by Alts Consulting.

At the event, Managing Partner, Alts Consulting,  Anthonia Foluke Sawyerr, said the purpose of the event was to guide students who are interested in studying abroad.

“We assist students who want to study abroad. It is our duty to help the students understand their career choices and discover if they are suitable for scholarships. We give students and parents visa guidance and assist them with making payments.”

The six schools that participated were CAIS Boarding Schools, St Catherine, Ontario, Canada; Riverside Military Academy, Gainesville, Georgia USA; St Andrew’s College, Aurora, Ontario, Canada; St Michaels University School, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; Strathallan School, Forgandenny, Pertshire UK; The Village, Houston, Texas, USA.

Contrary to the belief of many, Sawyerr said that the population of international students, especially from Nigeria, was not as high as people had been made to believe.

”Studying abroad is a global thing. Nigerians are not the only people who study abroad. There are so many other nations going to different countries to study. So many students cross to other countries to broaden their knowledge. If you go to the UK, for instance, the largest number of international students are Germans.

“We hold conferences with students and parents, so we can  manage their expectations.   One important aspect of what we do is that we do school referrals.

“Schools from the US and UK come to Nigeria to meet with prospective parents and students. Every year, we hold boarding fairs and whenever we have a fair, we try to take advantage of the school representatives that come here to have seminars for teachers. The fair is completely free because it is covered by the project. It is a big part of what we do and we really enjoy it.”

“It is a point of transition of decision, action and movement, you cannot afford to tarry too long as you might constitute a nuisance to yourself or others and even expose yourself to some inconveniences or worse”, he said.

Mr Kekere Ekun, whose speech is titled: ‘On the threshold of manhood’, said they are now about to cross that entry point to manhood to signal a new beginning, and a new life full of dreams and possibilities.

The lecturer of the day Dr Saheed Olurotimi Timehin’s talk was titled: “No leader for all time – The change we truly need.”

Timehin said the graduands’ parents want them to become winners, noting that they are the only ones who can work for it.

“They (parents) can pay your fees, buy you good books, send you to a good school like this, but they cannot read your books for you and neither can they write your exams in your stead. Therefore the main task of becoming a winner is yours and yours alone,” he counselled.

She said aside having a good financial statement and cash flow, women-led SMEs can run into trouble when the husband is not carried along. “It is a big challenge where the woman entrepreneur fails to carry her husband along. Make your husband a stakeholder in your business and he will protect your interest,” she said.

Mrs. Awosika who is the Founder of The Chair Centre Ltd, a market leader in the office furniture and banking security systems industries, said there must be a diplomatic balance between the home and business as none should suffer. “You can make business decisions but don’t lose sight of your home,” she told the participants.

The banks want to ensure that the loan is repaid because it is depositors’ funds. Monarch advises Gani Adams to ‘tread softly’

Oba Rilwan Oluwalambe of Ojokoro in Lagos has described Oodua Peoples’ Congress (OPC) factional leader Otunba Gani Adams as a traitor for allegedly staging a road show in which people were injured and properties destroyed.

Oba Oluwalambe condemned some OPC members for invading Oshodi last week.

He said Adams’ political activities were reprehensible adding: “Gani Adams has become a traitor to the Yoruba people, and by his recent pronouncements, he is on the path of self-destruction.”

  • Irabor advises NPFL clubs on finances

Irabor advises NPFL clubs on finances

Former chairman of the League Management Company (LMC), organisers of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), Nduka Irabor is upset clubs still struggle with funding and believes things can change with the “right approach”.

Irabor was speaking against the backdrop of the crisis that threatened to rock NPFL club, Dolphins ahead of today’s CAF Confederation Cup game against Tunisian side, Club Africain.

Players of Dolphins threatened to boycott the game against the Tunisians over disagreements on appearance bonuses and only agreed to travel at the last minute after high level negotiations.

“Those who run these clubs just don’t understand that they are sitting on money-making football institutions. It’s a pity that these clubs have to wait for their respective State governments to release funds before every important game when they can, with the right approach, actually raise funds independently,” he told supersport.com.

The former LMC chief believes Nigerian clubs can be run in truly professional fashion if the fans are integrated in the scheme of things.

“The most important thing is to bring the fans back to the stadia. The incentive is to make them (the fans) understand that they own a stake in the clubs. If these fans regularly contribute a token monthly, a club can be run effectively from such proceeds but it’s just left for our clubs to take notice and do the needful,” he said.

  • Quit Eagles, Onigbinde advises Keshi

    Quit Eagles, Onigbinde advises Keshi

Former Super Eagles caoch, Adegboye Onigbinde  has personally written to out- of-contract Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi to quietly seek greener pastures elsewhere.

In recent times, severall  Nigerian managers have  advised the erstwhile Mali and Togo coach to leave the Super Eagles’s job after the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations misfire with the latest calls coming from Christian Chukwu, Shuaibu Amodu, Kashimawo Laloko, among others.

Onigbinde said he will not like to be seen repeating himself on Keshi Eagles’ job as he has specifically asked him to politely thank the president for considering him worthy for recall and bow out honourably.

“On the very day the presidency asked him to return to his job I personally sent him a text message to politely thank Mr president for the offer and bow out honourably and quietly.

“Keshi respectfully replied the text message thanking me. That was as he went ahead with the two remaining 2015 African Cup Of Natinons (AFCON) qualifying matches against Congo and South Africa, I’m sure the rest is history. I adviced Keshi because I understand that he won’t work with the presidency but a different set of people as well as an entirely different environment.

“Now that others have picked up the calls, I won’t like to engage in an exercise that will appear repetitious so that I won’t be accused of having interest in the whole matter. I’m not used to presssurising people to act in certain ways, I’ve passed my view directly to him, I don’t need to pressure him further on same thing,” said Onigbinde to supersport.com.

Onigbinde insisted that administration is the bane of the nation’s football development while he condemned the football house for half-heartedly implementing his suggestions on match analysis.

“The major problem of our football is administration, I’ve written several papers on the need for a virile technical department which is key to football development. In other lands, it’s called technical and development department because without development then everybody could as well go to sleep.

“I suggested that some people be trained as match analysts but the persons I saw on NFF list are out of place. The major mistakes we keep repeating are to assume that ex-footballers are automatic administrators, it’s quite wrong.

“Jose Mourinho and Arrigo Sacchi weren’t star players but you can’t rival their administrative and technical finesse. Being a star player doesn’t make you a sound administrator or technical expert, it’s clearly a special calling,” said Onigbinde.
