    BREAKING: Aiyedatiwa sacks commissioners, special advisers

    Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has dissolved the State Executive Council with immediate effect.

    Governor Aiyedatiwa, however, exempted two members of the cabinet from the dissolution “due to the critical nature of their duties.”

    A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, listed the two cabinet members as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kayode Ajulo, and the Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Omowunmi Isaac.

    The statement directed all affected cabinet members to hand over all government properties in their care to the accounting officers of their respective ministries.

    Governor Aiyedatiwa thanked the EXCO members for their service and contributions to the development of the state under his administration and wished them well in their future endeavours.

    Armed forces day: Aiyedatiwa disburses N35m to widows in Ondo

    Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has disbursed the sum of N35m to 51 widows of fallen soldiers under the state government Resettlement and Empowerment Loan scheme.

    Governor Aiyedatiwa said the loan was interest free and urged the beneficiaries to pay back for them to have access to bigger loans.

    Represented by his Deputy, Olayide Adelami at the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance day, Governor Aiyedatiwa said the gesture was the highest way to showing respect to fallen heroes who paid the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.

    Aiyedatiwa said the celebration would not be complete without attending to the welfare of widows of the fallen heroes.

    He noted that the day was not about remembrance but also about empowerment.

    According to him, “To widows of the fallen heroes, we recognise the challenges you face and the sacrifices you continue to make. We are committed to supporting you, ensuring that you have the resources, opportunities and recognition you deserve.

    “Your loved ones served with honour and we have vowed to honour their legacies by standing with you in solidarity not only with words but equally through our actions. Today’s ceremony will be more worthwhile if it is backed up with financial and material supports to the legionnaire and well- being of widows and dependants of these patriotic heroes.

    “The Micro-Credit Loan Scheme to the widows of the departed heroes which is at zero interest rate remains a unique programme which shall be sustained irrespective of the economic situation. This is our own little way of supporting their businesses to enable them take care of the families left behind by their breadwinners.

    “While assuring you that we shall continue to make the loan more accessible, we are equally appealing to the beneficiaries to join hands with the government to make the programme sustainable by making repayment of the loan their top priorities.”

    Governor Aiyedatiwa also promised to provide a level playing ground for all political parties during Saturday’s local government elections.

    Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa  has been praised for his ‘exemplary leadership and commitment to the development’ of the state as he marked his 60th birthday.

    Among the highlights of the celebration was his act of compassion in pardoning 40 inmates, a gesture that underscores his dedication to justice and humanity.

    Speaking at the event, Her Grace Iya Aladura General Dr. Oluwaseye Yomi-Sholoye JP, Founder of The New Seraph Evangelical Ministries, lauded the governor for his achievements and contributions to Ondo State.

    “The great state of Ondo has taken a huge stride in progress with the betterment of lives, infrastructure, and even the latest show of mercy by pardoning 40 inmates to celebrate your 60th birthday,” she said.

    Dr. Yomi-Sholoye also highlighted the governor’s unblemished track record, describing him as “a force to reckon with” and a blessing to the people of Ondo State. “Mr. Governor, the great people of Ondo are fortunate to have a leader of your caliber. Your vision and integrity are evident in the transformative changes we see today,” she said.

    As a proud daughter of Ondo State, Dr. Yomi-Sholoye expressed her joy at the progress the state has achieved.

     She  called on investors to seize the opportunities in Ondo, emphasizing the need for more business investments to propel the state’s development. “Ondo State is ripe for growth, and I urge business owners to invest here. The state’s leadership is creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive,” she added.

    The female cleric and philanthropist, who also serves as the Founder and President of the Dr. O. Yomi-Sholoye Foundation, reiterated her commitment to supporting initiatives that uplift the state. The foundation focuses on poverty alleviation, youth empowerment, scholarships, and community development.

    The 60th birthday celebration was attended by notable dignitaries, including Hon. Dipo Okeyomi, popularly known as Carry Go, and other key figures who came to honor Governor Aiyedatiwa’s achievements.

    Ondo State Deputy Governor Olayide Adelami has hailed Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as he turned 60 years on Sunday.

    In a statement signed by him, Adelami described the governor as a man who had been anointed and well prepared for the position.

    He praised the governor for his commitment to pro-poor programmes, projects and policies, saying under his watch, the state had been largely progressive and flourishing in every sector.

    The statement said: “I will like to extend my heartfelt felicitation to my principal and leader on the occasion of 60th anniversary of his birth.

    Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has freed 15 convicted inmates to celebrate his 60th birthday.

    The birthday bash of the governor was put on hold due to the death of Secretary to the State Government, Oluwatuyi Tayo, popularly called ‘Tukana’.

    Aiyedatiwa also pardoned 25 other inmates, who were sentenced to death or life imprisonment.

    The inmates, who were sentenced to death, were commuted to life imprisonment, while the jail term of others would be reduced.

    This was announced by Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo.

    The commissioner, who also chairs the Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, said the governor’s action had nurtured renewed hope for reintegration into the society.

    Ajulo said Aiyedatiwa’s hand of mercy to 40 convicts reflected commitment to rehabilitation and the transformative power of second chances.

    He said 15 convicts would be released immediately.

    According to him, “in a further demonstration of mercy, several death sentences will be commuted to life imprisonment, while others will see their terms of incarceration reduced, thereby nurturing renewed hope for reintegration into the society.

    “It is noteworthy that Governor Aiyedatiwa chose to forgo his birthday celebrations in honour of the late Secretary to the State Government, Oluwatuyi (Tuykana), who died last weekend.

    “Governor Aiyedatiwa’s actions are in accordance with Section 212 (1) (2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).”

    A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Dr. Akinola Awodeyi-Akinsehinwa, has congratulated Ondo Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa  on his 60th birthday. 

     Awodeyi-Akinsehinwa fondly known as APATA, in a statement, praised the contributions of the governor to the development of the state. 

     He described Aiyedatiwa as a resourceful problem-solver and result-oriented.

    An  All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Mr. Gbenga Eleduma, has congratulated Ondo Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on his 60th birthday.

    Eleduma’s congratulatory message was contained in a statement by his Media Office in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

     “The governor’s milestone birthday is a testament to his dedication to public service and his commitment to the welfare of the people of Ondo State. “Governor Aiyedatiwa has worked tirelessly to promote the development and growth of the state, and his efforts have not gone unnoticed.

    There are indications that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) might boycott next week’s local government election in Ondo State.

    The Ondo PDP fielded 15 chairmanship and 131 councillorship candidates to contest in the January 18th local polls.

    Ondo Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) had said 10 political parties indicated interest to participate in the polls

    The political parties are the All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), Zenith Labour Party ( ZLP), People’s Democratic Party (PDP,  New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Action People’s Party (APP), Young Progressive Party (YPP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Action Democratic Party (ADP).

    Campaign activities ahead of the local polls are at the lowest ebb in the state.

    Political parties are not seen campaigning, unlike last year’s governorship election in the state.

    A chieftain of the Ondo PDP who pleaded anonymity said the party does not trust ODIEC to conduct credible elections.

    A spokesman for the PDP, Kennedy Peretei, said the party has begun an investigation into some issues.

    He, however, did not disclose the issues.

    Peretei stated that the party would make its stand known on Monday.

    “We have our doubts about the election even though we have 15 chairmanship and 131 councillorship candidates as well as paid all required dues. But there are some developments we are investigating.”

    Meanwhile, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has cautioned leaders of APC in the state not to be overconfident ahead of next week’s local council elections.

    Aiyedatiwa spoke in Akure at a meeting with party stakeholders, chairmanship, vice-chairmanship, and councillorship candidates of the party from the 18 local government areas of the state.

    The governor charged the party leaders to work towards consolidating the successes recorded during the last governorship election.

    Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has declared a three-day mourning period in Ondo state following the death of Secretary to the State Government, Hon Oluwatuyi Temitayo popularly known as Tukana.

    The late SSG died on Saturday while receiving treatment in a hospital after involving in a car accident last month.

    Governor Aiyedatiwa said the late  Oluwatuyi lived a fulfilled life and made positive impacts on many people.

    The Ondo Governor spoke when he led members of the State Executive Council on a condolence visit to wife of the late Oluwatuyi and members of his family, in Akure.

    Governor Aiyedatiwa said late Oluwatuyi was a recurring decimal in the politics and governance of Ondo State, adding that the history of the state would not be complete without a mention of his impacts.

    He described him as a complete gentleman who conducted his public and private life with decorum and humility.

    In the condolence register, the Governor wrote, “Hon Tayo Oluwatuyi, you came, you lived, you performed your God-given tasks and impacted lives. You have decided to leave us at a time we never expected but God said it is time to come home. May you have rest at the bossom of your creator, God. Amen.”

    Also, former Governor Olusegun Mimiko said the late SSG was a leading light in Akure land and a reputable political leader loved for his gentle and calm disposition.

    “Sad as the loss is, we all have to accept the fact that the deceased has finished his earthly race, though too early in all ramifications.  All we can do is commiserate his family, nuclear and extended, the Ondo State Governor and Government and indeed all those who genuinely feel his demise.

    “In all the instances of our political engagements, Tuykana, as he was fondly called, epitomised cool calmness, humility and all round comportment.
    “Hon. Oluwatuyi was a dedicated public servant whose unwavering commitment to his people and dedication to duty was self evident.”
