    • I am obeying court orders – Ondo gov

There was a peaceful protest in Okeigbo, Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Locàl Government area to push for a stop to an alleged plot by the Ondo state government to install a traditional ruler from the Aare Kugbayigbe ruling house.

The protesters said it was the turn of the Kuole Oloje Ruling House to produce the next Oluoke of Okeigbo.

Okeigbo has been without a king since 2023 when Oba Lawrence Oluwole Babajide died.

The protest was in support of the Oluoke Chiefs-In-Council and kingmakers appealed to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to allow the rule of law to prevail in Okeigbo to avoid anything that could lead to a breakdown of law and order in the kingdom.

Speaking on behalf of the kingmakers at a press briefing in Okeigbo, Chief Dele Odunwole, the Ojomu Okeigbo, said a stay of execution has been filed against the lower court judgment which sacked late Oba Babajide.

The Oluoke Chiefs-In-Council appealed to Governor Aiyedatiwa to allow the case in the Appeal Court to be determined before embarking on any other action about the vacant stool.

They said the Kuole Oloje Ruling House was the next to produce the next candidate for the vacant stool in line with the Oluoke chieftaincy declaration as contained in the Adeloye Chieftaincy Commission’s report.

“We, the Chiefs-In-Council, especially the kingmakers, are people of integrity and law-abiding citizens who would not do anything that could let the community and Ondo State at large down.

“We plead with all our sons and daughters of Okeigbo, within and outside, to please maintain peace at this trial time. All the problems of today will soon be over.”

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Elder Ebenezer Oniwiede, said the community does not want trouble but peace.

He called for swift action to ensure peace and justice in the community.

“It is the turn of Kuole Oloje to produce the king for Okeigbo. Others have had their turn and should step aside under tradition. In the history of Okeigbo land, two Obas from the same ruling house have never been buried in the palace. This must not change now.

Crisis deepens over Okeigbo Oluoke stool as Aiyedatiwa upholds court order

The crisis surrounding the Okeigbo traditional stool has intensified, with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa reaffirming his commitment to following court orders, which declare the Aare Kugbayigbe ruling house as the rightful heir to produce the next Oluoke of Okeigbo.

The royal stool has been vacant since the death of Oba Lawrence Oluwole Babajide, the Bamigbala I, in May 2023.

However, the Oluoke Chiefs-In-Council and Kingmakers have urged Governor Aiyedatiwa to ensure that the rule of law prevails, warning that any deviation could lead to anarchy in the kingdom.

In a press briefing in Okeigbo, Chief Dele Odunwole, the Ojomu Okeigbo, revealed that a stay of execution had been filed against the lower court’s ruling.

He also argued that the Kuole Oloje Ruling House should be the one to provide the next candidate for the vacant Oluoke stool, in accordance with the Oluoke Chieftaincy Declaration and the Adeloye Chieftaincy Commission’s report.

He appealed to Aiyedatiwa to allow the case in the Appeal Court to be determined before embarking on any other action about the vacant stool.

We’ll run an all-inclusive, accountable administration – Aiyedatiwa

Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, on Thursday, said his administration would run an all-inclusive, open and accountable government in order for the state to progress.

The governor stated this at a prayer service to commemorate the first working day in year 2025 held at the foyer of the Governor’s Office in Akure.

Aiyedatiwa appreciated God for the successes he was able to record in the last year of the late Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu’s second term in office.

According to him, good governance was priotised, which translated to significant developments in all sectors of the economy.

Aiyedatiwa said that a retreat would soon be organised for top civil servants and political office holders in the state.

This, according to him, is to ensure government policy thrusts were properly distilled and actionable plans set out.

He said that the expectations of people of the state were high and his administration must do all that is practically possible to meet them.

“In the public service, there was no incident of industrial action whatsoever in the state.

“Even in the face of the recent minimum wage negotiations, the labour leaders and the entire public service showed great maturity, understanding and trust.

“It will be recalled that Ondo State was among the first set of states in the federation to show not only commitment, but to pay beyond the National Minimum Wage benchmark of seventy thousand Naira (N70,000.00).

“As you are all aware, we owe no promotion in arrears. Recruitment of officers were made into some Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government where personnel deficiency had long existed.

“We do not only pay salaries and pensions regularly, the State Government has also commenced the payment of the New Minimum Wage of N73,000 to workers.

“This is aside from meeting our obligation to pensioners through offsetting humongous amount from the backlog of gratuities running into billions of Naira, in order that our senior citizens would not suffer in their old age,” he said.

Aiyedatiwa said his administration had also ensured that work continued on the ongoing infrastructural projects he inherited, especially urban and rural roads.

Earlier in his sermon, Pastor Michael Ogunbayode, an Elder in Seasons of Life Ministry, Lagos, said that the purpose of the meeting was not only to appreciate God but also to seek His direction for the year ahead.

Ogunbayode saidd that those who recognise the right thing to do at the right time positioned themselves for divine favor and alignment with God’s will.

“This is a critical moment for our administration, one that marks a significant step towards fulfilling the promises we made to the people of Ondo State during the electioneering processes.

“We have deliberately allocated the higher percentage to capital development in order to jumpstart the economy and initiate massive infrastructural renewal across the State. The main objective of this budget is to make life easy for our people. This objective is sacrosanct and non-negotiable.

“The budget reflects our collective vision for the future of Ondo State and demonstrates that when we work together, we can achieve great things for our people,” he added.

Aiyedatiwa under fire for excluding Akeredolu’s family from memorial event

A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Dr. Oluwadamilola Desmond-Awoyo, has slammed Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for excluding the immediate family of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu from the one year remembrance.

In a statement, he described the decision as “deeply concerning” and questioned the motives behind it.

“It is deeply concerning that Aiyedatiwa, in his bid to celebrate the one year remembrance of Governor Akeredolu, has opted to exclude the most crucial people in Akeredolu’s life, his immediate family, especially his wife and children.

“This glaring omission raises questions about his intentions, as it suggests an agenda beyond honouring a legacy and more about self-interest and possible financial mismanagement,” the statement said.

Desmond-Awoyo highlighted the vital role Akeredolu’s family played during his administration and underscored the emotional significance of their involvement in the remembrance.

“Akeredolu’s family, especially his wife and children, played significant roles throughout his time in office. The decision to leave them out seems not only insensitive, but also potentially manipulative,” he said.

The PDP stalwart also accused Aiyedatiwa of alienating former allies of Akeredolu, saying such actions undermined his credibility and disconnected him from the needs of the people.

“By turning these individuals into enemies, Aiyedatiwa has made a deliberate break from the very people who supported Akeredolu’s administration. His actions seem increasingly disconnected from governance and more aligned with a quest for personal gain,” he said.

Desmond-Awoyo advised Aiyedatiwa to prioritise governance over personal interests.

He said: “Aiyedatiwa should be focusing on the critical work of governance, not exploiting memorial events for financial benefit. Akeredolu’s legacy is about governance, progress and service to the people, not about staging hollow ceremonies to further personal interests.”

In a statement posted on her verified X account, the former First Lady said the lecture being organised was not for her late husband.

She said it was an “entry point to chop money on Aketi’s head.”

According to her, “Lucky can’t be serious! Which legacy? Mtcheew. Lecture, my foot!  This is not for Aketi because I and my family are not aware. Damn it!

“As the saying goes, you and your co-travellers cannot shave Aketi’s head in his absence. You cannot weep more than the bereaved. This is an insidious propaganda carried too far!

“Lucky, you are preoccupied with rubbishing Aketi’s legacy; you can’t succeed, anyway. Anybody close to Aketi and Arabinrin becomes your enemy. Your minions are scared to get close otherwise they lose their appointments.

“Now, you want to pretend by organising one yeye lecture for Aketi’s memorial as an entry point to chop money on Aketi’s head. You are on your own o! If this is not #yahoo #419 lecture, tell me what it is!”

However, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Aiyedatiwa, Ebenezer Adeniyan, said the planned lecture was an exclusive event of the state government.

He clarified that the organisers extended invitation to the late Akeredolu’s family.
