Ondo indigenes in Diaspora applaud Aiyedatiwa on N.2b loan disbursements

The community of Ondo State indigenes in the Diaspora, yesterday, expressed delight at the concern shown for the less-privileged by the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, citing the governor’s recent disbursement of over N200 million as soft loan to artisans and other enterprise owners across the state.

The governor fulfilled the promise that he made a few months ago, last Wednesday, at a ceremony where he was represented by his deputy, Dr. Olayide Adelami in Akure, the state’s capital.

Reflecting on the import of such a gesture, the Diaspora Community, in a statement issued by its coordinator, Dare Aliu, remarked that the lump sum, disbursed to artisans and other down-the-cadre enterprise owners across the state, was a soothing balm that would lessen the hardship being currently experienced in their ranks.

“We are greatly impressed that we have in Ondo State, a governor with the milk of human kindness, as he has sufficiently demonstrated this through his series of masses-oriented programmes, since he assumed office, December, last year.

He added that Nigerians living abroad reckoned that blame should not be heaped on the federal government alone in the face of the country’s economic hardship, but that the state administrations should also be put to task, to undertake palliative measures and other welfare programmes to bring relief to the residents.

“This is where Governor Aiyedatiwa has proved to be exceptional if assessed since he became governor, following the death of his boss, the late former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, December last year.

“We have not forgotten that immediately he came on board, he cleared all backlogs of unpaid salaries,  allowances, pensions, and gratuities, putting smiles on the faces of public workers and retirees alike.

“The governor in the wake of the hardship occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy, not only approved monthly payment of palliative allowance to civil servants but has also, till date been providing free bus shuttles for school children and civil servants across the

Ondo State Governor and Chairman of the Edo State Election Planning and Strategy Committee, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo and his running mate, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, on their election as governor-elect and deputy governor-elect of Edo State.

In a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed gratitude to the people of Edo for placing their trust in the APC for governance.

He stated that Edo State has rejoined the progressive movement and expressed confidence in Senator Okpebholo’s vision to transform governance in the state through progressive policies that will positively impact the lives of its citizens.

In contrast, the PDP governorship candidate in Ondo State, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, criticized the election results as another blow to democracy in the country.

Ajayi said it betrayed a total disregard for the electoral desires of the people as validly expressed through the ballot.

The former Ondo Deputy Governor, in a statement, said Nigerians were not fooled by the officially declared result by INEC, saying, “They know that PDP won that election and this is a shame on those who sit atop our affairs.”

He said it was disappointing that INEC could disregard the electoral law by shifting the collation of votes in the designated Local Government Collation Centres to its headquarters in Benin City.

“However we are prepared to ensure that rules will be followed in our election which comes up in November, we need to underscore that we will not acquiesce or take kindly to any act geared towards compromising votes in our election.

“We state emphatically for all to see and hear that Ondo is not Edo, our attitude, understanding, and patience differs, we will vote and protect our vote here. We are resolved to give everything to ensure that the electoral desires of our people will command attention and attain the desired goals.

“As they say, politics is local, in Ondo State, the people are already protesting against the hardship imposed on them by the APC government, they are protesting against hunger, lack, and want, Ondo State people are protesting against the high inflationary trend that has denied them not only the future but even the present.

“In Ondo State, we are already protesting against a Party, the APC and a government that has institutionalised hardship, penury, and poverty and our protest day is the 16th of November, we thus sound a note of warning to those whose trade is the compromise of ballot that danger looms if they seek to tamper with our votes.

“Nigeria is either a democratic nation or not, us we won’t have a parody of election here, votes must count here. Let the APC and its rigging headquarters in Owerri begin to realise that now.

“We warn that INEC must be responsible and the Police civil in the prosecution of our election, a word as they say is enough for the wise.”
