Ondo polls: Akure monarch prays for Aiyedatiwa

Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, has offered a prayer for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party began its local government campaign tour for next month’s governorship election.

Oba Aladetoyinbo, who received Governor Aiyedatiwa at his Palace, said the Ondo governor has respect for the traditional rulers and institutions in the state.

The Akure monarch said the Governor has been supporting the cause of the Akure kingdom and its people.

He said the governor deserved to be supported in realizing his dream of retaining the governor’s seat beyond 2025.

Oba Aladetoyinbo appealed to Governor Aiyedatiwa to sustain ongoing infrastructural projects, especially in road constructions and provisions of solar-powered street lights in Akure.

He said: “The governor is performing well, and he actually needs to be supported for his ambition. Here in Akure, we have been enjoying his support in areas of infrastructure.

“However, we plead that the governor should help us construct the internal roads in Akure and place premium on our market roads and Igbatoro road because that axis leads to Benin in Edo state and it will ease transportation.”

The Monarch urged his subjects to ensure they troop out on Election Day to cast their votes without any fear.

“In phase two we would ensure that there are solar lights in our markets so that our market women would be able to continue their trading till the evening time.”

Governor Aiyedatiwa also took campaigns to other wards in Akure South Local Government.

Ondo poll: PDP faults Aiyedatiwa on N73,000 minimum wage

Campaign Council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has faulted Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s announcement of his administration’s readiness to begin payment of N73,000 minimum wage.

It said it was a hollow pretence calculated to present Aiyedatiwa as a workers-friendly governor.

Spokesman for the council, Ayo Fadaka, in a statement, said the timing of Governor Aiyedatiwa’s action was ‘’wicked after months of inertia and complete disregard for the struggles of the workers.’’

Fadaka said the marginal wage increment served as a flimsy attempt to curry favour with the electorate and mask the APC administration’s colossal failures across every critical sector.

He said the strategy was designed not to improve the lives of the workers, but to salvage the political ambitions of the governor.

Fadaka said the N73,000 minimum wage reeked of calculated deceit, aimed not at alleviating the suffering of the people, but at securing their votes through shallow tokenism.

He said: “A leader who genuinely cares about the welfare of his people would have long since addressed the causes of Ondo State’s challenges—poverty, unemployment and the decay of essential services.

“His administration has been defined by neglect, indifference and a stark lack of empathy for the plight of the common man. Rather than champion sustainable development and meaningful progress, he has opted to dangle this meager wage increase as a political carrot, a last-ditch effort to manipulate and hoodwinked the electorate in pursuit of his selfish political survival.

“While Aiyedatiwa attempts to use this meager raise as political bait, the grim truth remains unchanged. The state’s health care system is in disarray, educational institutions are crumbling and infrastructure is in a state of collapse. His administration has failed to invest in the future of Ondo State, preferring instead to offer empty promises and engage in grandstanding, all while the people he is supposed to serve continue to bear the brunt of his failures.

“A truly compassionate and visionary leader would have embraced a comprehensive approach, implementing meaningful wage reforms as part of a broader strategy to uplift the living standards of the people.

“But Aiyedatiwa’s wickedness is evident in his blatant disregard for the real issues confronting Ondo State, his selfishness shines through in his refusal to tackle the systemic problems his administration has created, choosing instead to insult the intelligence of the electorate with a meager N3,000 increment, an afterthought that does nothing to alleviate the struggles of the people.”
