Ambode fit to rule Lagos, says group

The Support Group for the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate Akinwunmi Ambode  has said that the standard bearer has no health challanges. The group said Ambode is fit to rule.

At a conference in Lagos, the Chairman of the Mobilisation Committee for the support group, Mr. Fola Tinubu said, the rumour  was being peddled by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said  Ambode is hale and hearty, adding that the candidate has been moving across the state, seeking the mandate of the people.

He said: “The information is being peddled by PDP, but I wish to state that our governorship candidate has been campaigning throughout Lagos, nothing to suggest that he has health challenges.”

Tinubu said the support group, which comprised people who contested with the candidate at the primaries and other lovers of the candidate, will do everything possible to ensure that Ambode emerges as the governor.

He added: “We believe more hands must be on deck to repel the forces of retrogression symbolised by the PDP, which seek to hoodwink Lagosians and lure them out of their comfort zones, to a future whose possibilities is today represented by the rudderless leadership provided at the federal level.

“All Lagosians need to do is to ask themselves if they will like to be governed by a party that has failed to deliver on the most critical duty of the government which is security.

“Ambode seeks to consolidate a Lagos safe for you and me. But, with the schizophrenic disinformation and misinformation of the PDP, with the hypocritical and false propaganda of the PDP, it is possible for the voters to take these achievements for granted and be short-changed.”

Tinubu further said that the road show, which the support group will embark on, is meant to renew the call for a better Lagos under Ambode, who will consolidate the the gains of the present administration.

He said that the APC government has done so much that it will be counter productive for those without deep knowledge of governance to start to experiment with Lagos. “What we are saying is that Lagos is too sophisticated for people without previous experience on public management. You cannot Learn with Lagos, you have to be tested and trusted to keep the centre of excellence going.”

Tinubu stressed the need to consolidate the gains of the  administration, adding that Ambode was eminently qualified to occupy the position and move the state ahead.

‘Vote Ambode to ensure improved lives’

Agroup, Akinwunmi Ambode Komittee of Friends (AA’KON), has urged Lagosians to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, to ensure improved lives.

The body’s Media Director, Elder Cornelius Olopade, who spoke yesterday at the APC rally at Ifako-Ijaiye area of Lagos State, said a vote for Ambode would guarantee the continuity of good governance.

He said Lagos residents should make sure they continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy started by the APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and continued by Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, by electing Ambode.

The APC standard-bearer urged Lagosians not to sell their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for any price, saying it was the weapon they needed to vote for candidates, who would transform their lives.

Ambode said those who have not collected their PVCs should do so, adding that Lagosians should not sit on the fence.

His words: “People should sensitise their neighbours not to trade away their future and that of their children by selling their PVCs.

“If the electorate vote for me and other APC candidates, they are assured of good roads, potable water, decent houses, effective transportation system and other good things of life.”

  • Southsouth residents endorse Buhari, Ambode

Southsouth residents in Lagos State have endorsed the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen Muhammadu Buhari.

At a briefing yesterday in Lagos, their spokesman, Otunba Isaac Emiyede, said Buhari was a tested and trusted leader who would move the country forward, noting that their kinsman, President Goodluck Jonathan, had disappointed Nigerians.

He said what was happening in the country today is not about sentiment or region, but about the ability to deliver electoral promises.

“General Buhari has shown leadership by example. We don’t need a microscope to see through him. He has shown integrity and discipline. This is a man who retired as head of state and has no building in Abuja or Lagos. He has only a storey-building in Kaduna. He does not give out money to people or encourage bribery.

“So, you know he is not corrupt. He has given a sign of where he is going. He is incorruptible. When the head is good, the body will be good. But when the head is rotten, the body cannot be good. So, if they say Gen. Buhari’s followers are not good, let us wait and give him a chance. It is the head that will drive the rest of the body. He is the one who will be in charge of appointments.”

Emiyede said the situation had made the common man on the street to lose hope, while a few rich people were smiling to the banks everyday.

“In 2007, Jonathan and former President Umaru Yar’Adua met 3,000 megawatts (MW) on ground. Last year, we were producing only 3,450 MW after spending more than $50 billion. That is trillions of naira. So, Jonathan and Yar’Adua combined could only produce 450 megawatts of electricity. Can we continue with this system?

“The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) never knew that there will be a time as this in Nigeria, when Nigerians will be asking for change, not because of the APC but because they are tired of what is going on. No matter the lies you tell, Nigerians just want change.”

He said the Southsouth would vote for the APC’s governorship candidate Akinwunmi Ambode on April 11, saying with over 1.6 million Southsouth people in Lagos over 80 per cent of the people would vote APC.

“There are over 1.6million South/South indigenes in Lagos. We are very mindful of the laudable achievements of APC administration in the state.

“The APC led administration has been enrolling our children into schools without discrimination. Providing vacation jobs for our children, reduced land charges.

“The change is going to happen in Abuja but Lagos will continue the way it is because it’s better than most states in Nigeria.”

  • Be fair, advises Ambode

    Be fair, advises Ambode

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has urged law enforcement agents to provide adequate security for parties during the elections.

He said this at a stakeholders’ meeting with the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and parties.

The APC candidate advised security agencies to see themselves as agents of the state and not of any particular party.

Ambode said: “There is a need to build agencies like the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) and other parastatals as enduring institutions. “They must rise above partisan politics and not be subject to the whims and caprices of political office holders.

“Enduring institutions are vital to the success of the democratic experiment in Nigeria. Their role is to provide adequate security for all the parties involved in the campaigns, during and after the election to ensure that hoodlums do not attack perceived opponents.”

He praised INEC’s promise to conduct a free and fair election and hoped that it will make everything possible to keep this promise to Nigerians.

Saying that Nigerians are itching for change and are ready to vote for credible candidates, Ambode urged the people to freely exercise their voting rights.

  • Ambode assures traditional medicine practitioners of support

Ambode assures traditional medicine practitioners of support

The weather was clement and the atmosphere, convivial. There was hope in the air to lift traditional medicine practice.

The venue was the premises of the Nigeria Institute of Town Planners; Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos. It was a meeting of the governoship candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), Akinwunmi Ambode with all stakeholders in traditional medicine (TM) practice. The convener was the Lagos State Traditional Board Medicine (LSTBD).

The shout of ‘Ambo’ rented the air as the candidate stood to address the participants who were over half a million.

Akinwunmi assured the traditional medicine practitioners consisting of community health officers, traditional birth attendants, the herbal medicine and ingredients sellers association (Elewe Omo), traditional medicine practitioners, bone setters and others that they would get government’s support, if elected.”

Akinwunmi said: “I promise to continue to elevate and strengthen you, the various practitioners in obtaining world class training, assist you to obtain the world class standard in your various specialties and I will include you in illness prevention and health promotion activities of the administration if elected.

“I recognise the role of the practitioners as I grew up in rural community of Epe. I acknowledged that most of the Elewe Omo are women and my government will continue with the women empowerment programme in this profession. I equally recognised the need to set up training institutions for traditional medicine development. And I promised to continue with capacity building for the community health officers and the community birth attendants in order to strengthen the primary health care system.”

Elated by his speech, the traditional medicine stakeholders endorsed him, promising to mobilise more people to vote for him and other APC candidates.  Leaders of Community Health Officers in all 57 local governments and local council development areas also promised to vote for Ambode.

The representatives of the stakeholders mounted the podium one after the other to pledge their support. The President of Herbal Medicine and Ingredients Sellers Association, (Elewe Omo), Alhaja Sinifat Olomowewe; the TBAs leader, Chief (Mrs) Temilade Fayemi and Leader of Community/Faith Birth Attendants, Mrs Ajishafe took turns to their express their satisfaction and support for Ambode. So, also members of the National Association of Traditional Medicine Practitioners (NTMP), including Chief Felix O. Esho; Chief Moyesan and Chief Akande gave him green light.

The LSTMB chairman Dr Bunmi Omoseyindemi implored the stakeholders to mobilise and vote for APC candidates to strengthen and take them to the next level of development in their career. “It is only APC government that has done something to elevate our status and given us adequate recognition,” he said.

He continued: “At the turn of the century, folk medicine was viewed as a practice used by poverty stricken communities and quacks. However the rejection of synthetic or biomedical products has become a growing trend in Western society and allowed for a rise in the demand for natural medicines. When less developed countries are taken into account it is estimated that over 50 percent of the world’s population relies on folk medicine practices. The prevalence of folk medicine in certain areas of the world will vary based on cultural norms. Much of today’s modern medicine though is previously based on plants that had been long used in traditional medicine.”

Dr Omoseyindemi added: “The passage of a resolution, last year, on the integration of traditional medicine in global healthcare delivery systems at the 67th World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva, Switzerland, is a laudable development. It will, hopefully, help to bridge the gap between orthodox medical practice and complementary/traditional medicine for the benefit of mankind. This recognition of the value of traditional and complementary/alternative medicine is a big leap for these branches of medicine. The approval of their integration with orthodox medicine in global health systems deserves commendation. It is a confirmation that traditional medicine, which varies among countries and regions, has useful benefits that should be harnessed to improve medical care worldwide. We heartily welcome this development and urge a quick implementation of the resolution. We need a political platform to realise these dreams, so vote for APC candidates.”

A group, Eko Liberation Movement (ELM), has alerted to a plan to procure and tender a fake medical report to discredit the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Akinwumi Ambode.

In a statement by its convener, Gbolahan Agboola, the group said: “A faceless group is set to procure a fake medical report to discredit Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, as being unsound in mind, body and spirit.

“There is no amount of shenanigan by the desperate opposition to discredit him that will change our resolve to support him in his bid to keep Lagos on the track of greatness and prosperity.

“Their latest antics are to claim that Ambode had suffered a strange mental illness. We cannot be deceived by any false claim from any group or individuals. Ambode is our man for the job of moving Lagos to the next level.

“He possesses the mental, spiritual and physical capacity to take Lagos to the next level.  Well-meaning Lagosians should disregard such rumours and ill-advised activities of the opposition.”
