  • Amosun tasks advertising practitioners on economic growth

    Governor ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State has urged advertising practitioners on ways of growing the country’s economy for their benefit and that of the country in general.

    The governor spoke in Abeokuta yesterday at the opening session of the 45th Annual General Meeting/Congress of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN).

    Amosun was represented at the opening ceremony by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Dayo Adeneye.

    The governor urged practitioners to stick to the ethical code of the profession, especially as politics is in the air, by avoiding divisive and inciting messages.

    The governor noted that it is by avoiding such that the country can attract more investors and advertising agencies, more clients.

    The AGM/Congress, which has as its theme: Growing the Economic Pot: The Role of Advertising, attracted the cream of the profession as well prominent personalities from other fields.

    The keynote address was delivered by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Channels Media Group, John Momoh, who was represented by Mr. Kingsley Uranta, an Assistant General Manager of the company.

    Mommoh  advised practitioners to keep track of changes in their practice so as to improve knowledge and efficiency. .

    Leading the discussion on the keynote address was Mr. Philip Isakpa, publisher of Business AM. He was joined by the Managing Director, TBWA Concepts;  Mr Kelechi Nwosu, and the Managing Director, Noah’s Ark., Mr. Lanre Adisa.

    The ceremony was chaired by Sir Steve Omojafor, former president of the association. The AGM/Congress ends on Saturday.

  • Abeokuta flood: Amosun warns against indiscriminate building of houses

    Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun has begun assessment visits to areas affected by Friday’s flood, which wreaked havoc in Abeokuta, the state capital.

    The governor warned against indiscriminate building of houses, especially in flood-prone areas.

    He said the flood, which followed a three-hour downpour, caused deaths and destruction of property.

    Amosun, who was accompanied by his wife, Olufunso, Deputy Governor Mrs. Yetunde Onanuga and State Executive Council (Exco) members, advised the residents to desist from building on waterways.

    Such action, the governor noted, is unlawful and can cause havoc when water movement is hindered.

    He also warned against the dumping of refuse inside drainages.

    Amosun visited Ijeja, Gbangba Bridge, Itoku Market, Kuto, Isabo and Lafenwa.

    The governor commiserated with those who lost their loved ones, praying God to comfort them and grant them the fortitude to bear their losses.

    He assured those who lost valuables of government’s intervention to cushion the effect of their losses.

    Amosun said the damage would have been more devastating, if not for the massive infrastructure his administration had put in place.

    He promised that the government would not relent in doing more to avert a future occurrence.

     

  • 2019: Endorse Adekunbi to succeed you, technocrats beg Amosun

    Prominent indigenes of the Ogun East senatorial district of Ogun State have urged Governor Ibikunle Amosun to endorse the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Suraj Adekunbi as his successor for his loyalty and competence. Speaking under the auspice of Remo/Ijebu Professionals’ Forum, they spoke in Eruwon, Ijebu Northeast local government area of the state after a stakeholders’ meeting convened to review the 2019 governorship race.

    According to Giwa Bolaji Onafeso, who briefed newsmen after the meeting, the groups’s stance came on the heels of recent reports that APC leaders in Ogun West district,  are making frantic efforts to prune down the number of All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirants from the area. He said the group, which consists of practicing and retired professionals cutting across both the public and private sectors within and outside the state, is interested in the continuation of Amosun’s sterling performances.

    “We are professionals in various fields. We are indigenes of this state and we have seen Amosun’s performance which remains the best ever in the history of Ogun State. We have examined all the aspirants from Ogun West and we make bold to say if he wants assurance that the good work he is doing will continue, Senator Ibikunle Amosun must endorse Adekunbi, a young, loyal and hardworking politician who is loved across the state, as his successor.

    ““More so, he is the longest serving Speaker in Ogun State. Ogun State has never had it so good. There is no governor that has ever had so much rest of mind to pursue his projects as the present governor. That opportunity for him to continue pursuing his projects without disturbance is basically because the House is peaceful. We are sure that he will make a good governor if given the opportunity,” he said.

     

  • Amosun assures MAN, others of better deal

    Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun has assured private sector executives that his administration will continue to create an enabling environment to attract more investments and help existing ones to thrive.

    Amosun said the state government was projecting into 30 to 50 years ahead what it wants the state to be and is also working to put in place things that could help it attain the desired height in industrialisation, infrastructure, security, among others.

    The governor spoke yesterday in Abeokuta, the state capital, during a breakfast meeting with private sector executives.

    The event was organised by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to create an avenue for industry players and manufacturers to intimate the governor about issues facing their businesses.

    The private sector executives, who were mainly small, medium and big enterprises operators from various parts of the state, listed the challenges they were facing in their ventures.

    These, they said, include the deplorable state of roads at Atan, Agbara and Ijebu areas as well as the growing challenges posed by the Omo-Onile syndrome, multiple taxation and levies.

     

     

     

  • Amosun to distribute c of o tomorrow

    The Ogun State Governor  Ibikunle Amosun will give out Certificates of Occupancy and other land title documents to another batch of beneficiaries under the Homeowners’ Charter Programme tomorrow.

    The Director-General, Bureau of Lands and Survey, Mr. Biyi Ismail  said the beneficiaries would collect their documents  at the Arcade Ground, Governor’s office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

    He urged all contacted beneficiaries to come with valid means of identification and photocopies .

  • Amosun appoints Ogun’s first visually impaired Permanent Secretary

    Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State has sworn-in the state’s first visually impaired permanent secretary. Mr. Akinyemi Andrew Elijah  was, until now, Director of Special Needs Education in the  Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. Amosun said Elijah was appointed for his dedication, diligence and passion in the discharge of his duties.

    “We have considered you among those who have diligently served the state and that is why we are honouring you with this,” the governor said. He added:”in Ogun State, it does not matter if you are physically challenged or not, what matters is dedication, diligence and selfless service to the state.”

    Amosun reiterated the commitment of his administration to the welfare of civil servants, stating that while payment of salaries of workers and pension of retirees remains regular, government will not owe any salary deduction before handing over next year. “We are mindful that deduction is part of the salary, I will not owe anyone any deduction. I will offset all before we handover and leave office”, Amosun said,pointing out that   government would create a special fund to make  payment of gratuities seamless and affordable.

    Akinyemi, , after taking the oath of allegiance, office and secrecy, pledged to effectively contribute his quota to the service of the state. The  Head of the State’s Civil Service, Mr. Abayomi Sobande, hailed  the governor for noticing and honouring the hard work of Akinyemi and also encouraging  selfless and diligent civil servants.

  • Ex-Ogun Rep Akinlade congratulates Muslims, urges support for Amosun

    A former member of House of Representatives, Hon Abiodun Akinlade, has congratulated Muslims in Nigeria, especially in Ogun State, on the occasion of the 2018 Eid-el-Fitr celebration, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

    Akinlade, who represented Yewa South/Ipokia federal constituency in the lower chamber of National Assembly between 2003 and 2015, urged Muslims to inculcate the lessons learnt during the Ramadan fast by positively impacting on their neighbours and the larger society.

    The former lawmaker, who is also the Baba Adinni of Yewaland and a governorship aspirant in Ogun State on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), noted the uniqueness of this year’s celebration which coincided with the 25th anniversary of the annulled June 12,1993 election, adding that the spirit of reconciliation and forgiveness championed by President Muhammadu Buhari has renewed love, unity and brotherliness in the country.

    While canvassing support for the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Akinlade said the governor has changed the face Ogun State, adding that he was ready to consolidate the giant strides of the incumbent administration through a sustainable continuity.

  • Sallah: Amosun, Akarigbo preach religious tolerance, peace

    Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, on Friday urged indigenes of the state and residents to continue to live peacefully with one another to sustain the pace of progress and development recorded in the last six years.

    Amosun said the state is one regardless of differences in people’s faith, adding that everybody should live in love, harmony and unity with one another.

    The governor made the call in his Sallah message shortly after observing the Eid-il-Fitr prayer with Muslim faithful including the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, to mark the end of the Ramadan at Yidi ground, Lantoro, Abeokuta.

    He charged Muslim brothers and sisters to practice the good virtues they acquired during the Ramadan and not to go back to the vices they jettisoned.

    “It is all about Ogun State. Whether Muslims or Christians, we are one and the same. There is no difference. As we celebrate the Sallah today, we shall celebrate more in good health.

    “All the things we did not do during the Ramadan, we should not go back to them. We should not go back to life of vices because Allah is against it. We should tolerate one another, share in love with one another and continue to live the good attitude we have imbibed this period.”

    Amosun lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for using the month of Ramadan to tender an apology to the family of the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, late Chief MKO Abiola, for the injustice inflicted on their bread winner.

    The Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Adewale Ajayi, urged religious groups in the area, Ogun State and Nigeria to imbibe religious tolerance and harmony to ensure peaceful co- existence with one another.

    Ajayi said genuine development and progress could only be achieved in a community or nation if people learn to live peacefully and harmoniously.

     

  • Amosun: Ogun govt grateful

    The Ogun State Government expressed its “profound gratitude to President Mohammadu Buhari.”

    A statement by Secretary to the State Government Taiwo Adeoluwa said “We are grateful to President Mohammadu Buhari for this recognition of an illustrious son of Ogun State and an icon of our democratic struggle, Chief M. K. O Abiola.

    “President Buhari has shown with this action that he is a man that believes in justice and giving to every person his or her dues.

    “Although this posthumous award may appear to some people to have come late, we thank the President. We urge all lovers of democracy and goodwill to continue to support the ideals for which Chief M. K. O Abiola lived and died for.

    “For us in Ogun State, we shall not forget Bashorun M. K. O Abiola”.

  • Jonathan, Ambode, Ajimobi, Amosun commiserate with Aboderin family

    More condolences poured in for the family of the late Chairman of Punch Nigeria Limited, Mr. Gbadebowale Aboderin yesterday.

    Aboderin, a trained pilot and basketball enthusiast, died in Lagos on Wednesday following a heart surgery at First Cardiology Consultants.

    He was aged 60.

    Among the eminent Nigerians who sent condolence messages to the family yesterday were for President Goodluck Jonathan; Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode; Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi and Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun.

    In a condolence letter to the Aboderin family and the management and staff of Punch Newspapers, Jonathan described the late Aboderin as a  crusader for public good, saying that he would be sorely missed because of his deep commitment to national development.

    A statement issued by Jonathan’s media adviser, Mr. Ikechukwu Eze, said the ex-President also noted that Aboderin left a legacy of hard work and passion for a just society.

    The statement said: “The late Aboderin will be sorely missed because of his deep commitment to national progress and the ease with which he reached out and made friends across regional lines and religious ties.

    “He was a man who invested hugely in the cause of the ordinary people and worked altruistically for public good.

    “The high value he placed on social capital was evident in the height to which he took Punch, expeditiously repositioning the newspaper as a credible voice for equity, national unity, good governance and democracy.

    “As a sports enthusiast, he willingly channeled his energy and resources in the pursuit of his interest; a passion that positively reflected in his substantial contributions to sports development, especially the game of basketball which he greatly lifted.

    “He will be remembered for his impressive legacy of hard work, philanthropy and passion for a just and equitable society.”

    Sad development, says Ambode

    Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, expressed sadness over Aboderin’s death in a condolence letter he personally signed and addressed to the Managing Director of Punch Nigeria Limited, Mr. Demola Osinubi.

    The governor described Aboderin’s death as a sad development coming at a time when the media institution can benefit more from his leadership and direction.

    The statement said: “With deep sympathy, the Lagos State Government wishes to condole with the management of Punch Nigeria Limited and the entire family of the Founder, Chief James Olu Aboderin, on the sudden death of the Chairman, Mr. Wale Aboderin.

    “The Punch has earned its place as a great medium for the expression of views and dissemination of news and intelligence on account of the high standards of ethics and the vision of its founding partners.

    “The death of Mr. Wale Aboderin is a sad development at a time this media institution can benefit more from his leadership and direction.

    “It is a big loss to the sports sector in which he played major roles as investor and philanthropist.

    “Because of these impeccable records, he lives in our hearts. His indelible footprints tell us that he will always be part of our journey as citizens of Nigeria and the world at large.”

    We lost a great son —Ajimobi

    Governor Ajimobi expressed “utter shock” at the news of the untimely death of the Chairman of Punch Nigeria Limited, who he described as an illustrious son of Oyo State, and a lovable brother and consummate gentleman.

    A statement issued by the Special Adviser, Communication and Strategy to the governor, Mr. Bolaji Tunji, lamented that death had again snatched one of the great sons of the land, who spread his signature effervescence and love everywhere he went.

    The governor expressed sadness that death cut short the dream of the foremost entrepreneur and affable administrator whose magic wand, he said, had further entrenched Punch as a dominant force in the newspaper industry.

    Ajimobi said: “That the Punch newspaper now prints simultaneously in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt is directly attributable to the business acumen, dexterity and go-getting efforts of my late brother, who toiled day and night to sustain the family’s business legacy.

    “The enigma called death has again cut short the life of one of our shining and unassuming stars.

    “Wale was a great citizen of our dear state and son of the soil in whom we were well pleased. The news of his sudden death saddens me.

    “His simplicity and modest lifestyle despite sitting atop a multi-billion naira enterprise are exemplary and noteworthy. I was told that no employee enters his office with a frown without leaving with a smile.

    “I can boldly say that death is not the end of my adorable brother’s life, since only his body departed.

    “His spirit can never die; it continues to live with us. His legacies of humility, selflessness, integrity, diligence and Godliness shall continue to live with us.

    “I know that no soothing words can help ease the pain and loss that my sister, his dear wife and lovable children are feeling at this moment, but they will forever be in my prayers and thoughts.”

    He was a zealous professional, says Amosun

    Governor Ibikunle Amosun expressed deep sadness over the death of Aboderin in his condolence message signed by the Ogun State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Otunba Adedayo Adeneye.

    Describing the deceased as a versatile Nigerian who excelled in all his endeavours, Amosun said “the late Mr. Gbadebowale Aboderin, a professional pilot, was zealous in carrying on the legacy bequeathed by his late father and Founder of the Punch Newspapers, Chief Olu Aboderin, when he took over as chairman of the company.

    “His commitment to the development of basketball in Nigeria, which saw him founding the Dolphins Female Basketball Foundation and emerging the chairman of the Lagos State Basketball Association as well as Vice President of Nigeria Basketball Supporters Club, is worthy of emulation.”

    The governor prayed God to grant the family of the late Aboderin the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
