GOVERNOR Ibikunle Amosun on Friday disclosed that his administration has attracted over $200 billion investments to Ogun State in the last couple of years.

He noted that the administration would have been unable to improve the fortune of the state without the active support of NACCIMA, the organised private sector and other stakeholders; he stressed that the bus donation was meant to further acknowledge the contributions of the body to the state’s success story.

While receiving the key of the bus, the National President of NACCIMA, Iyalode Alaba Lawson, said since her emergence as head of the group, it has fostered tremendous development in the state.

Lawson pledged that NACCIMA would continue to attract more investors to the state and thus boost its socioeconomic status.

They commented the youth who participated in the competition for developing the zeal to memorise the Qur’an.

In the keenly contested competition, 18 reciters emerge as winners in the various categories of the competition after being tested on memorisation, pronunciation, voice sonority, composition and dressing.

Amosun, who was represented by a Consultant to Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) Alhaji Musibau Oyefeso, said he was encouraged to see young Muslims learn the Qur’an, saying that would help to instill morality in the society.

“I am proud to be associated with this. It is a great thing to see our youths learn the words of Allah and commit it to their hearts. I congratulate all the participants,” Amosun said.

Aregbesola, represented by the Chairman of Ijede Local Council Development Area, Salis Fatiu Jimoh, said memorising the Qur’an was part of the key to success, adding that “this is a worthy cause. It will go a long way to reduce crime in the society.”

The late Adegbite’s son, Bashorun Ladi Adegbite, who spoke on behalf of the Adegbite family, praised the organiser, MSSN Lagos, for hosting the programme in the name of his father, saying members of the family were proud to be associated with such a programme.

He explained that the theme of the competition – “Hope for the Hopeless” – matched the personality of his late father.

The late Adegbite, he said, was a legend of his time that did his best to promote positive things in all facets of his life as a youth leader, as a teacher, a lawyer, a traditional leader and for the most part as a Muslim.

MSSN Lagos State President Dr Saheed Ashafa, lamented that social media was affecting the spiritual lives of the youths.

“It is crystal clear to everyone that Muslim youths are far away from the Book of Allah and this is not farfetched from the influence of modern technologies and social media, Muslims generally have now made phones and other gadgets companions at the expense of the Glorious Qur’an,” he said.

He noted that the government would have commemorated this year’s Democracy Day with inauguration of some of the over 50 new projects, spread across the three geo-political zones, but the commissioning has been shifted till a later date that will be announced because of the on – going Ramadan.

“We have kept faith so far, and I hereby restate our commitment to hand over an Ogun State, which will be a pride of all of us.

  • Amosun gets kudos for backing Ogun West for governor

A socio-political group in Ogun West, Yewa Youth Development Forum, has hailed Governor Ibikunle Amosun for endorsing Ogun West as his successor.

In a statement by its Coordinator, Femi Salako, the group, with headquarters in Ilaro in Yewa South Local Government Area, said the governor displayed a high level of respect for equity and morality with his support.

Ogun West has not produced a governor since the history of the Gateway State.

The group recommended that the most credible among aspirants from Ogun West to be considered is the governor’s Chief of Staff, Chief Tolu Odebiyi, who they described as youthful, and a credible personality with integrity.

“With the nature of his job as chief of staff to Governor Amosun, Odebiyi is familiar with the development mantra of the administration and he won’t find it difficult taking the state higher from where Amosun stops in 2019.

“We believe with his experience in the public and private sector, Odebiyi is conversant with the political arena, and will bring the confidence of the private and public sector to bear on politics and governance,” the group said.

  • Amosun, Adebule, UK Imam for Adegbite Quran Competition

Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun, Lagos State Deputy Governor Dr Idiat Adebule, Chief Executive Officer of Bua Group Alhaji AbdusSamad Rabiu will lead others to the Lagos Quran Competition.

The event is organised by the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) Lagos State Area Unit to honour the pioneer MSSN National President and former Secretary-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, the late Dr AbdulLateef Adegbite.

It will hold on Sunday at University of Lagos Main Auditorium, Akoka, Lagos.

At a briefing yesterday addressed by a son of the late Adegbite, Bashorun Ladi and MSSN Amir (President) Dr Saheed Ashafa at NUJ House, Alausa, the duo promised that the competition will be the largest in Lagos State.

Ashafa said the Chief Executive Officer of Basmallah Institute for Teaching Qur’an and Islam in Ireland, United Kingdom, Ustadh  Harun Thanni, will speak on the theme – Hope for the hopeless.

The topic, he said, is apt because “some Nigerians have already lost all hope in Project Nigeria, but we as a Muslim Students’ body say No! We believe in the Nigerian dream, which to us is still achievable if the government and the led return to the Qur’an.”

He admitted that the country is experiencing difficult times.

“Many Nigerians,” he said, “are beginning to lose hope because things are not working out as promised by this government when they came to power. The  state of insecurity, the rise in prices of most commodities, even as the government tries to stabilise the economy and the unguarded utterances of many Nigerians, some unfortunately from elder statesmen, can spell doom for Nigeria, if not curtailed. We hope the crisis will be nip in the bud soonest.”

Bashorun Adegbite said he was happy to represent the Adegbite family “not only because it’s an opportunity to remember him but a chance to continue his legacies by transmitting those core values for which he had become well known in his life.

“Dr Adegbite touched the lives of many people and was a firm believer in service to humanity. I thank the Lagos MSSN for honouring my father which our family supports. I am particularly excited by this edition’s theme: “Hope for the Hopeless”, which clearly expresses the essence of the life of the late Adegbite.”
