  • Expert lauds Amosun for compensating landowners

    Aleader in Wasinmi, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, Bolaji Akinola, has commended the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun for compensating land owners in the areas earmarked for the proposed Ogun Cargo Airport.

    Speaking yesterday in Wasinmi, Akinola said the proposed airport will make significant contribution to the economic development of the state and Nigeria as several businesses will spring up from it.

    Akinola, who is a maritime expert, said: “There are different modes of transport, and each mode has its own benefits and drawbacks. Airfreight is often used for high value and low volume shipments.

    “Cargo airports provide fast and highly reliable means of moving high value cargoes quickly and reliably across the world. It is also a highly reliable means of transportation.

    “The proximity of Ogun State to Lagos and the rapid transformation of Ogun into an industrial hub makes the proposed cargo airport imperative, desirable and worthwhile,” Akinola said.

     

     

  • Amosun: Ogun investors’ forum will deepen past gains, chart new path

    •Over 500 local, foreign investors eye state

    The fourth edition of Ogun State Investors’ Forum began in Abeokuta, the state capital, yesterday with Governor Ibikunle Amosun saying its outcome will help his administration to consolidate the gains of the last seven years.

    In his welcome address, the governor said this year’s edition would be the last convened by his administration.

    He added that it would leverage on past gains to chart a new path for further development of the state’s socio-economic status.

    Explaining the theme of this year’s edition, titled: Consolidating the Gains: Accelerating Growth, Amosun said his administration had attracted quantum of investments to the state.

    The governor said was why it was rated first by the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) in terms of the value of investment.

    He added: “It is also imperative to remind ourselves that this particular edition is significant: it is the last edition in the tenure of our administration.

    “We want to build on the successes of the past, and it gives us another opportunity to map out new and improved strategies that will not only deepen the benefits of the previous editions but will also create new opportunities for us.

    “Since the last edition in 2016, this government was rated first by the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), in terms of the value of investment, with N515 billion; that is (26.9 per cent) of total manufacturing investment in Nigeria in 2016.”

    Former Mexican President Felipe Calderon, Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun and other notable resource persons attended the opening ceremony of the forum.

    It is expected to attract over 500 local foreign prospective investors.

     

  • Amosun rues ‘unfair’ Federal allocation to Ogun

    The Ogun State government yesterday said Federal Government’s revenue allocation sharing formula has not been fair to the state.

    It noted that what the state collected as allocations was not commensurate with the quantum of what it contributed to the Federation Account.

    Governor Ibikunle Amosun addressed reporters in Abeokuta, the state capital, ahead of next week’s fourth Investors’ Forum of the state.

    The governor said the state generated about 34 per cent of non-oil revenue but ranked 26th in the sharing formula of allocation from the Federation Account.

    He said 304 companies had opened shops in the state since the beginning of his administration seven years ago with a minimum investment of $50 million.

    According to him, 148 companies with investments capital ranging from $200 million to $2 billion were among those that berthed in Ogun State.

    Amosun said he supported the restructuring of the country in a way that each state would receive allocations on the basis of the percentage of its contribution to the Federation Account.

    The governor also expressed dissatisfaction with the statistics released by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) on personal income tax, saying his administration would forward a protest letter to the agency.

    He said the state had become an industrial hub of the country, adding that its target was for the state to become the hub of Africa.

    According to him, this year’s edition of the Investors’ Forum will focus on agriculture and its value chain, industry and technology.

     

     

     

  • ‘Be patient with Amosun over projects’

    The Ogun State Elders’ Consultative Forum, led by former Justice of the International Court at Hague, Prince Bola Ajibola, has urged the residents to be patient with the Ibikunle Amosun administration as he strives to complete ongoing projects.

    The forum said there could not be any genuine development without some pains.

    It added that in the end, the pains would lead to joy and many socio-economic values.

    In a statement by its Coordinating and Resource Person, Aremo Taiwo Alimi, at the end of its plenary in Abeokuta, the state capital, the forum said the Amosun administration’s urban renewal effort and infrastructural developments had further enhanced the status of the state as an industrial destination of choice in Nigeria.

    The elders urged the governor to spread more projects to other towns and communities for balanced, rapid development.

    According to the statement, the Elders’ Forum will remain a “non-partisan and independent advisory body charged with the responsibility of providing guidance, insight and direction for state governance and the general well-being of the good people of Ogun State as well as the overall development and sustainable peace in Ogun State”.

    Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun and his Bayelsa State counterpart, Seriake Dickson, have congratulated former President Olusegun Obasanjo on his 81st birthday.

    The Ogun governor described Obasanjo as a quintessential leader.

    In a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Otunba Adedayo Adeneye, the governor said the former Head of State, ex-President and statesman had demonstrated an exceptional passion for the socio-economic development of the country and the wellbeing of Nigerians.

    Amosun added: “His service to the nation can be summarised as that of total sacrifice and exceeding zeal to ensure that Nigeria is great. Even incarceration did not douse his vision.”

    In a statement in Yenagoa, the state capital, by his Chief Press Secretary, Francis Ottah Agbo, the Bayelsa governor prayed God to grant the elder statesman long life and good health so that “we can continue to tap from his fountain of knowledge and experience”.

    Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has rejoiced with renowned cinematographer and photographer, Mr. Tunde Kelani, as he turned 70.

    Amosun, in a statement signed by the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Otunba Adedayo Adeneye, described Kelani as an epitome of cinema, who has also used his exemplary skills to promote the rich Yoruba cultural heritage worldwide.

    The governor said the story teller and filmmaker, who was appointed the chairman of the National Film and Videos Censors Board (NFVCB), by President Muhammadu Buhari, is a worthy Nigerian, distinguished Yoruba man and a pride to Ogun State.

    He said Kelani deserves commendation and celebration, for rising from a local photographer and now sitting as the head of his privately owned film producing company, Mainframe, acclaimed for producing chart bursting films.

    “Today, Tunde Kelani is acknowledged for his dexterity in handling the camera and also versed in the knowledge of Yoruba culture and tradition, which he is using to promote our rich culture.

    “Also, with a touch of adire in his dressing, he has relentlessly identified with his root, Abeokuta, which is known as the home of adire clothe. For this, we, in Ogun state, are proud of him as our culture ambassador”, Amosun added.

    He wished Kelani more prosperous and health years as he celebrates his 70 years.

    Traditional institutions symbols for development, says Amosun

    Ogun State Governor Senator Ibikunle Amosun has said traditional institutions are symbols of sovereignty as well as the melting pot for communal efforts towards socio-economic development of communities.

    Amosun spoke at the installation and presentation of staff of office to Oba Clement Akinola Omosowon of the Orisanwo Ruling House as the new Elewo of Ilewo Orile.

    The ceremony was held at Ilewo Community High School, Ilewo-Orile in Abeokuta North Local Government Area.

    The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Jide Ojuko, noted that apart from the fact that monarchs are custodians of traditions and cultural values of their domains, they also aggregate the collective aspirations of their people.

    He congratulated insigenes of Elewo community for maintaining peace and order after the demise of the last monarch, Oba Nathaniel Orisabiyi, on February 14, 2014.

    Amosun said the turnout of the residents was a demonstration of the unwavering commitment of his administration at providing leadership for every traditional institution, where vacancy existed.

    He added that his administration would continue to discharge its mandate, which is anchored on the five cardinal programmes, as enshrined in the Mission to Rebuild Ogun State.

    The governor said his administration would pay attention to education, health, agriculture and provide tight security needed for the socio-economic well-being of the residents.

    “Kabiyesi, you are expected to play the role of a father to all your subjects, including those who have contested the stoll with you. I urge you to also see your appointment as a clarion call to serve your people,” Amosun said.

    The chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government Area, Kunle Folarin, urged the new monarch to mobilise human and material resources for the rapid growth of the community.

    Homeowners’ charter: we are keeping to our promise, says Amosun

    Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun has said his administration is keeping to the promise made in 2013 that all successful applicants under Homeowners’ charter programme would collect their documents.

    The governor spoke during the 28th edition of the distribution of Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) and building plan approval to another batch of beneficiaries at the Arcade Ground, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

    Amosun, represented by the Commissioner for Forestry, Chief Kolawole Lawal, said the consistency in the distribution of C of O was a proof that government was working towards the development of the state .

    ‘’This is the 28th edition of the programme which means promise made, promise kept. If the state government had not been consistent, applicants won’t have been opportune to benefit from it,’ he said.

    The governor said the issuance of C of O in the past was challenging until the introduction of HomeOwners’ Charter which has made it easier for thousands of people to benefit.

    The Coordinating Consultant of the Programme, Mr. Niyi Oguntula, said the government was committed at ensuring that all applicants who meet the requisite criteria set out for the programme are issued with the documents.

    Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Bello Rasheed from Obantoko, Abeokuta, thanked the  administration for keeping to the promise made to the citizens.

    •Dignitaries storm Ikenne

    Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, his wife, Bola, Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun, former Governor Olusegun Osoba and his successor, Gbenga Daniel, as well as other eminent Nigerians yesterday stormed the Ikenne, Ogun State home of Chief Obafemi Awolowo for the 70th birthday of the late sage’s daughter, Dr Olatokunbo Awolowo-Dosumu.

    Obasanjo, Osoba, Amosun, Daniel and scores of eminent personalities from across Nigeria converged on the Our Saviour’s Anglican Church in Ikenne to felicitate with Dr Awolowo-Dosunmu, who is the Chairman of African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN) Plc, publishers of the Tribune titles.

    They prayed for her long life, good health and more fruitful service to the nation and humanity.

    It was a double celebration for the former Ambassador to the Netherlands as the 70th birthday and thanksgiving service was also used to confer on her the title of Iya Ewe of Our Saviour’s Anglican Church in Ikenne.

    The officiating cleric, the Archbishop of Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos, Dr Olusina Fape, praised God for granting the celebrant the grace to attain 70 years.

    In his sermon, titled: This is the Day of Joy, Fape said birthday is a time to show appreciation to God for the gift of life.

    The bishop noted that Dr Awolowo-Dosunmu is a blessing to her generation.

    He advised her to put absolute faith in God and rededicate her life to the service of the Almighty and humanity.

    Fape said: “For our dear sister, this is the day the Lord has made; the day is your birth, the 70th year of the same. That our sister has seen this day is by the grace of God. God has preserved your life as it is unto this day.

    “You have reasons to praise God for this day. You have not merely existed for these 70 years, but you have been a blessing to your generation.

    “You have no reason to doubt God that He will sustain you in the years ahead. But then, you need to rely more on Him.

    “You may still have more challenging days ahead. But if you surrender your life to Him completely and find time to grow deeper in the knowledge of God through His word, you will not fail.

    “Our dear sister thinks no evil, sees no evil and talks no evil. All that you need in the years ahead is Christ to stand firm and overcome in the events of vicissitudes of life.

    “You don’t need religion or denomination. It is my prayer for you that your tomorrow will be better than your yesterday and today put together.”

    Amosun, who was represented by Deputy Governor Yetunde Onanuga, hailed the celebrant for her achievements and service to humanity at 70.

    He said: “The celebrant is one of the fruits of the sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo. We want to thank you for the numerous contributions to mankind. We acknowledge all that you have done and we say it is not by mistake that you are adding another feather to all the feathers you already have.”

    Osoba and former Ekiti State Governor Niyi Adebayo hailed Awolowo-Dosumu as a brilliant woman.

    They wished her more prosperous years ahead.

    Dignitaries at the event included the Secretary to the Ogun State Government (SSG), Mr. Taiwo Adeoluwa; Osun State Deputy Governor Titilayo Laoye-Tomori; former Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku; his wife, Bunmi and Chief Ayo Adebanjo.

    Others are: former Governors Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo) and Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta), the President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief John Nwodo; the serving overseer of Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare and his wife; the Chief Judge of Ogun State, Justice Olatokunbo Olopade, Chief Idowu Sofola (SAN), Senators Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa, Femi Okurounmu and Kofoworoola Bucknor-Akerele.
