    Ondo Amotekun launches Operation Safe-ground

    The Amotekun Corps in Ondo State has launched ‘Operation Safe-ground’ to curb incessant burglaries.

    There has been increased reports of burgled homes and valuables stolen.

    State commander Akogun Adetunji Adeleye said over 1,000 corps would be deployed for the Ed-il-kabir celebration.

    He added: “We observed that in the main cities, miscreants and criminals are taking over. We equally observed that on Sundays and when people go to work, these miscreants burgle homes and make away with valuables.

    “The complaints became unbearable in the last three weeks and this prompted Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to direct that ‘Operation Safe-ground’ be commissioned today.

    “These miscreants have taken over the town again. I agree that we drove them out of the forest and we will continue to drive them out of the forest.

    “To the residents of Akure and major towns in the state, you will start observing like before, control points and security points in virtually every streets to curtail these nefarious activities.

    “We also advise against patronising okada riders whose faces are hidden under a face mask. Also, those who have permanent okada riders who pick them should stop riding at night so they don’t become victims of untoward circumstances.”

    Forty-eight suspects arrested for offences including vandalism, kidnapping and illegal possession of firearms were also paraded.

    One person died yesterday when operatives of the Amotekun Corps and suspected cultists clashed at Igbokada, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.

    The deceased was identified as Okunneye Sunday Iseoluwa, popularly known as Soldier Boy.

    It was gathered that Amotekun operatives stormed a joint after a girl who was raped and robbed identified her attackers at the joint.

    Sources said it was an attempt to arrest the suspect, Moshood Kazeem, that suspected cultists attacked the Amotekun operatives.

    Three suspected cultists and one Amotekun officer who sustained injuries are said to be on admission at a hospital.

    Commander of Ondo Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said four of his operatives were tied, maligned and injured with cutlass.

    One person has been shot dead in a clash between operatives of the Ondo State Security Network codenamed Amotekun Corps and some suspected cultists at Igbokada, headquarters of Ilaje local government area.

    The deceased was identified as Okunneye Sunday Iseoluwa popularly known as Soldier Boy.

    It was gathered that Amotekun operatives stormed a joint after a girl who was raped and robbed at Igbokoda identified her attackers at the joint.

    Sources said it was an attempt to arrest the suspect, Moshood Kazeem that suspected cultists attacked the Amotekun operatives.

    Three suspected cultists and one Amotekun officer who sustained injuries were said to have been admitted to a hospital in Igbokoda.

    Commander of Ondo Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said four of his operatives were tied, maligned, and inflicted bodily injuries with cutlasses.

    “On the 7th of April, a lady reported that she was robbed, raped, and maligned in Igbokoda. By the time our men got to the scene, they had all run away. We placed them on surveillance. Yesterday, she came to the office to report that she had seen one of them and she would want them apprehended.

    “We swung into action and went to a joint that is noted for such activities in Igbokoda. Just immediately our men came out they were attacked. Our men responded and we were able to apprehend two suspects who led us to the houses of seven others.

    “A thorough search of the house of the main suspect, Moshood Kazeem, led to retrieval of the victim’s phone. He confessed that they had shared the money.  We were able to recover one of the locally-made pistols with live ammunition, cutlasses, charms, and a number of other things. We want to correct the impression being created that Amotekun went to attack youths.

    “We have issues with cultists creating nefarious activities around Igbokoda and luckily we have been able to arrest the suspects.”

    The victim, aged 23, said she was raped in an uncompleted building.

    She said she recognized Moshood because he was the only one that raped her.

    Moshood said he used scissors to commit the crime.

    Ondo Amotekun nabs 45 suspects for alleged kidnapping, others

    The Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun) in Ondo State has arrested about 45 suspects for alleged kidnapping and other crimes.

    The Corps’ Commander, Adetunji Adeleye, while parading the suspects yesterday, said they committed the alleged offences in different parts of the state.

    Adeleye explained that while 14 suspects were arrested for alleged kidnapping, five were held for burglary, two for violating the anti-grazing law and four others for disturbing public peace.

    The remaining suspects were arrested for offences including dangerous driving, stealing, and possession of stolen goods, among others, he noted.

    The commander said Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa also ordered the release of 28 of the suspects arrested for minor offences.

    He added: “The governor released them in the spirit of the festive period and they will be released with strict warning not to perpetrate such acts again. The remaining suspects will however face the full wrath of the law.”

    Ondo Amotekun dismisses three personnel for professional misconduct

    Three operatives of the Ondo State Security Network codenamed Amotekun Corps have been dismissed for professional misconduct.

    Details of their offences were not made known but Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adeleye Adetunji, said normal processes of court marshall were carried out.

    Adetunji said adequate punishment would be meted out to the erring operatives after their dismissal.

    He spoke when he paraded seven suspects held for human trafficking, stealing, and robbery.

    The Ondo Amotekun boss said the penalty for what the three operatives did was outright dismissal and that they were dismissed accordingly.

    He disclosed that a total of 700 Amotekun operatives would be deployed across the state for 24-hour patrol ahead of the Easter celebrations.

    He said: “Our parade today is more of sensitization, we have seven suspected criminals and we want to inform the public that you should assist us so that we can assist you too. We recovered a vehicle which was attacked by armed bandits.

    “While a lot of electronic equipment had been stolen from the residents of the community, and we decided to manhunt around the community, this happened around 2 am and by 5 am we were able to retrieve a lot of things that were stolen.

    “And this is to reconfirm that response to distress calls is actually working for us in order to reduce crime to a minimum.”

    On the issue of state police, the Amotekun boss said all departments were ready for effective take-off of state police in Ondo state

    “We have an advanced argument that the State Police is the solution to security challenges in the country.  One of the major factors of our success is our knowledge of the local terrain. We know when visitors come in and we can profile the person. Grassroots insecurity solution. All departments are ready for effective take-off of state police in Ondo state.”

    Attempts by a deadly seven-man gang from Delta State to rob three banks in Ondo State have been foiled by operatives of the Ondo State Security Network codenamed Amotekun Corps.

    The gang had lodged at a house in Irele community from where they planned to rob the three banks and kidnap a businessman in the state.

    They recruited a staff of the businessman who works in a Supermarket owned by the man but the staff declined to join them.

    Commander of the Ondo Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, spoke Thursday, March 21, when he paraded 37 suspects arrested for various crimes.

    Adeleye said a manhunt has commenced for the leader of the gang in Delta State.

    He said: “The seven-man gang operatives came all the way from Sapele, Delta State for the purpose of kidnapping, and robbery of a bank in Irele LGA.

    “Six of them are at large but we were able to apprehend the mastermind who accommodated the robbers. We were equally able to get to the root of the target that they intended to kidnap.

    “The manhunt for the leader who escaped to Delta State is on. We are liaising with relevant government and security authorities to assist us in apprehending this runaway gang. The Intel available to us shows that they intend to rob three banks and kidnap the MD of a supermarket. Investigations showed that they liaised with a staff of the supermarket who declined to join the group.”

    The wife of Fatai, who gave her name as Angel, said she warned her husband to desist from carrying on with the criminal acts when he bought into the gang.

    She said her husband did not heed her warning.

    Another gang who stole pipelines meant for the World Bank-financed water project was also paraded.

    Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network codenamed Amotekun Corps said a notorious kidnapper, who escaped from a Correctional Facility in Edo State, has been arrested

    The corps said it also arrested two fleeing inmates who escaped trial from other facilities.

    Names of the fleeing inmates were given as Taiwo Adeola, Juwon Olanrewaju and Olajide Olayemi.

    Commander of Ondo Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said one of the fleeing inmates joined a kidnapping gang in Ondo and had planned to retire after abducting his last victim before he was arrested.

    Adeleye spoke in Akure when he paraded 68 suspects arrested for various crimes across the state.

    He said collaborative efforts of all security agencies helped to ensure a hitch free burial rites for late former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

    He expressed worry over the exodus of some persons claiming to be hunters and farmers from some parts of the country into the forest reserves across the state.

    “A worrisome group that we observed recently is young men in their hundreds saying they are hunters with dogs entering the nooks and crannies of the state. On the directives of Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, we returned them to their base up north.

    “We escorted them far out of the reach of Ondo State. We have done this about three or four times, so we want to let them know, anybody coming into Ondo State must have a place where he is going.

    The Commander, Ondo State Security Network codenamed Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adeleye Adetunji, has said that the increased security operations in neighbouring Ekiti State has forced kidnappers to flee to Ondo.

    Adetunji said there was a surge in the arrest of suspected kidnappers in the state.

    He spoke when he paraded 43 suspects arrested for various crimes in different parts of the state.

    The Ondo Amotekun boss said the state would not be a safe haven for kidnappers running from security onslaught in Ekiti State.

    He said there were security breaches in the Northern parts of the state leading to an increase in the number of herders/farmers clashes.

    “I want to trace this to the heavy presence of security personnel in Ekiti and I want to believe that they are being driven to Ondo State. But we want to tell you that Ondo State can never be a safe haven for criminals.

    “We have risen up to the challenge and all of them that we have picked at kidnap scenes, during kidnap, and during attempts to kidnap, with credible victims around to identify some of them, are the ones we are parading today.

    “We also have some that we arrested with local arms and ammunition and we’re not able to justify what they wanted to do with the arms and ammunition.”

    “This week, we have a sharp decline in the number of house breaks because we have commenced foot walk especially on Sundays when people have gone to church and during working hours when people are at work.

    “We still have security challenges on our borders especially the Kogi/Ondo border, Edo/Ondo border. We are working on it and collaborating.

    “The actual thing that you saw on social media happened in between those two communities and we have been raising alarm that in places that we don’t have the grassroots local security that we can work with, we have been having issues.

    “But we are happy, however, that they collaborated with us and the search still continues,” he said.
