Sokoto APC faults Tambuwal’s govt for selling out houses

The All Progressives Congress in Sokoto State has accused the immediate past PDP government in the state of selfishly selling houses without building any.

It also noted that the current APC-led government of Dr Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has floored and proved cynics wrong, as a listening and committed government, which is a clear departure from the failure of past government of PDP.

The APC at a press conference, Friday, by its chairman, Sadik Isah Achida, viewed the development as unfortunate and a sharp contrast to the capacity of the seven months old government of Dr Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, which has recorded tremendous successes across the spheres of development.

“He is always in touch and in tune with the yearnings and expectations of Sokoto people who are feeling the positive pulse of his works rather than shuttling between local and foreign destinations and becoming an absentee governor.”

According to Achida, “The current APC-led government in the state has commenced the construction of 500 housing units in addition to the 1000 within the period of 7 months of its leadership. This is in addition to the inherited 500 houses being completed to ensure shelter for all in the state.

“This is in complete contrast to the immediate past administration under the PDP that sold all our houses without building any one.”

The Chairman while describing Governor Aliyu Sokoto as a committed patriot, responsible and results-oriented leader, noted that the state has the potentials to occupy its rightful space as a model to emulate.

Achida explained that Sokoto State was fast repositioning with the restoration of constant water supply, improved sanitation exercise and activities, installation of solar-powered street lights, reconstruction and rehabilitation of metropolitan and township roads, schools and hospital rehabilitation and renovations as well driving a sustainable social interventions policy for especially the less-privileged and handicapped persons among others across the state.

He pointed out that the governor had provided all security agencies with modern operations vehicles to enhance their efficiency and effectiveness against all crimes and criminals across the state.

“Bandits and other criminals are now being pursued and attacked in their hideouts”, explained Achida, as he applauded the governor for the highest budgetary allocation to the education sub-sector.

Joining others to celebrate the governor’s 54th birthday, the state APC attributed Sokoto’s 7-month success feat to his being in his prime, mental alertness, composure, and sound education.

Group cautions Aiyedatiwa not to sack Ondo APC exco

A socio-political organisation, the Ondo Elite Group, has cautioned Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa against making any move to tamper with the political structure in the state.

It warned that such a move might spell doom for the party ahead of the November governorship election in the state.

A statement signed by General Secretary of the group, Chief Yemi Oladiran, advised Governor Ayedatiwa, to unite all stakeholders rather than causing division within the party.

Oladiran said tension has been gradually brewing in the Ondo APC over plans by to oust and replace the party leadership in the state to suit their candidate in the next election.

He said: “The APC primaries are coming up in the state in the next few months, and unless those behind the plot retrace their steps, APC in the state might be risking a repeat of the setbacks it suffered in Zamfara in the last general election.

“Dissolving the state executive of the party will negate the agreement Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa signed with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the crisis that engulfed the state over the friction between late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and Ayedatiwa.

“What we are guiding against is the repeat of what happened in Zamfara and we cannot allow this to happen in Ondo state because we play the game by the rules and guided by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Anything we do in the party is guided by the constitution of the APC. I can assure you that Ondo will not allow a repeat of Zamfara’s treatment. We must go into the next election as one united family.

“No one can truncate a moving train, that is moving at a speed of development, like the one we are having in Ondo. The understanding between the executive members of Ondo APC and the government is cordial and we should go into this election as one”

“We’re proud of the leadership of the state chairman, Ade Adetimehin. He has been able to stabilise the party since he became the chairman of the party.

” Nobody changes a winning team, the present leadership has two more years to complete its term. They should be allowed to usher in a new governor after the November election.

“Tampering with the present leadership in the state party or the EXCO, would be counterproductive and spell doom for the party.

Publicity Secretary of the APC in the state, Alex Kalejaye said it was unimaginable that anyone would contemplate dissolution of the party’s structures in an election year.

“The executive committee of the chapter has never been in crisis nor in disagreement of whatever dimension. The Ade Adetimehin-led executive committee has rather built the chapter to an enviable and appealing state that now attracts gladiators from other political parties.

“Political observers will attest that Ondo APC executive committee is arguably one of the most organised and disciplined in the entire APC family across the country.

“The State Executive Committee is committed to a clear victory for the party at the gubernatorial poll. We need the cooperation of all leaders and elders to achieve this laudable feat”.

    • Vows to work with Okocha
    • ’He’s welcomed back’

The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Rivers State in the last general election, Sen. Magnus Abe, has said he is ready to work with the state Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tony Okocha, for the growth and development of the party.

Abe spoke yesterday in a chat with reporters in Port Harcourt on his decision to return to the APC.

The lawmaker, who represented Rivers South East District in the National Assembly, had held a stakeholders meeting with his supporters where he informed them of his decision to dump SDP for APC.

He pledged his commitment to support the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration for the good of the state and to ensure the success of the Federal Government.

“My coming to the APC is to work with other members of the party to ensure growth, inclusion, prosperity and progress for Rivers State and her people.

“If we all have the same mind, then we’re on the path to achieving that. This is a new year and everybody who wants the APC to move forward in Rivers State needs to realise that the APC cannot be the personal estate of anyone.”

He admitted that with his return to the party, and with the state party caretaker committee (CTC), Tony Okocha and Rotimi Amaechi as existing (legacy) members and with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, expected to join any time soon, the party is definitely going to have some kind of difficulty, since none of the men is a walkover.

He, however, noted that  with proper understanding and commitment to the cause of the party and the agenda of President Tinubu, the political heavyweights could work together to take over the state in no time.

Reacting to the news of Abe’s return, the state party chairman said he is welcomed back to the party so long he is ready to work with the leadership in place.

“I heard somehow on a radio programme that Magnus intends to return to the APC. We welcome him with our full chest so long he is ready to work with us,” Okocha said.

President’s New Year address struck right chord with Nigerians, says APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s New Year message struck the right chord with Nigerians.

It also described the message as an excellent fit for the purpose and occasion it was delivered.

Dismissing its condemnation by the  Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),  APC said Tinubu’s address was “both in tone and substance measured, sensitive, articulate and highly presidential.”

A statement by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka in Abuja said the PDP diatribe was a testament to the party’s incapacity to serve as a credible opposition party.

He said:  ” A New Year speech of any President is a goodwill message to the nation in celebration of the new year. It is a moment for tone-setting of expectations for the year ahead. It is not a  policy speech delivered to a think tank.

“The President was forthright in his acknowledgement of the transient tough impact that some of the administration’s policies have had on citizens, just as he was categorical in the expression of commitment to do everything under the power of his office to tackle prevailing challenges and secure a safer and stronger country for the benefit of all.

“The President addressed Nigerians with candour, sensitivity and attentiveness of a kind unknown to the PDP in its 16 years of reckless, and never again, rule.

“The President’s New Year message struck the right chord with Nigerians, assuring of the administration’s commitment to fixing power and energy challenges, locally refining petroleum products, crashing prices of products, creating jobs, enabling a more favourable business environment, tackling insecurity, expanding food security and affordability, implementing new minimum wage for workers, and more.”

Morka added: “Signing the 2024 budget into law on New Year’s Day is further evidence of the President walking the talk. The President is busy doing the job he was elected to do and will not be distracted by PDP’s idle mischief.”

Thr spokesperson said PDP has failed woefully in providing credible and sensible opposition.

He said: “Democratic opposition politics is not exactly about being a masterclass of incivility or casting crude aspersions without justification. It is also not about a haughty display of ignorance of essential social and economic policy or willful blindness to the administration’s bold and courageous efforts to raise the bar for sustainable growth and development of our country. PDP’s nagging irrationality is a blight on our democracy.

“If the status of opposition party were a contested one, the PDP would still miserably fail to pass muster.”

  • Osun APC blasts Aregbesola, says ex-gov dishonoured agreement by Tinubu, Akande

Osun APC blasts Aregbesola, says ex-gov dishonoured agreement by Tinubu, Akande

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Osun state has tackled former governor Rauf Aregbesola over the claim that his successor, Adegboyega Oyetola reneged on reconcilatory agreements.

The APC lambasted the Aregbesola, the erstwhile minister of Interior for reneging on 2020 reconciliatory agreement sanctioned by President Bola Tinubu and pioneer chairman of APC, Chief Bisi Akande.

The chairman of APC, Osun State, Tajudeen Lawal in a release on Tuesday, January 2, debunked the claim by Aregbesola that an agreement was reached on August 26th, 2021, where it was resolved that his faction be considered in forming the government by giving it one-third of the appointments in the second term of Oyetola’s administration.

Lawal averred that Aregbesola was making a reference to the agreement he reached with the Adeleke dynasty as the APC did not make the 2022 governorship election in Osun, adding that no wonder the Aregbesola faction was accorded one-third of appointments in the current administration, led by Senator Ademola Adeleke as governor.

Lawal claimed that Aregbesola was alluding to the pact he made with the Adeleke dynasty since the APC didn’t make such in the 2022 Osun governorship election.

He pointed out that this might explain why the Aregbesola faction received one-third of appointments in the present administration, with Senator Ademola Adeleke serving as governor.

He explained that “to the best of my knowledge, the only agreement, endorsed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Chief Bisi Akande happened in December 2020 and that Aregbesola reneged on the spirit and letter of the said agreement.

“At the end of the meeting, it was Aregbesola who prepared the contents of the resolutions and gave it to our Baba, Chief Bisi Akande, to vet before it was passed on to the leaders of the party. And part of the agreement was that there would be an automatic ticket for Oyetola and that while Oyetola would be allowed to face governance without interference from any quarters, the trio of Chief Bisi Akande, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola will lead, guide, coordinate and administer the party as the apex body.

“But during the primaries, Aregbesola sponsored Alhaji Moshood Adeoti against Oyetola contrary to the agreement reached. Oyetola won the election. The same Aregbesola went to court with Adeoti to challenge the outcome of the primary. He also sponsored 10 different cases in various courts to challenge the nomination of Oyetola as the candidate of the APC.

“Before then, he held a parallel congress and pushed unsuccessfully to have a validly elected chairman of the party replaced with his factional chairman. “As if that was not enough, Aregbesola went ahead to sponsor three different candidates against Oyetola in the governorship election. So, who betrayed each other?”

Tinubu’s New Year address struck right chord with Nigerians, says APC

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that President Bola Tinubu’s New Year message struck the right chord with Nigerians.

It also described the message as an excellent fit for the purpose and occasion it was delivered.

Dismissing the criticism and condemnation by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of the January 1 nationwide address of the president, the governing party said Tinubu’s address was “both in tone and substance measured, sensitive, articulate and highly presidential.”

Reacting to PDP’s waving off of President’s New Year message, APC national publicity secretary, Felix Morka in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday, January 2, said that the PDP diatribe was a testament to the party’s incapacity to serve as a sensible or credible opposition party.

Educating the opposition on the essence of a new year message, the governing party noted that the basic understanding of the nature of a new year speech stands elusive to highly deluded PDP.

According to APC, ” A New Year speech of any President is a goodwill message to the nation in celebration of the new year.

Berating the PDP, the APC spokesperson noted that the party has failed woefully in providing credible and sensible opposition politics.

“Democratic opposition politics is not exactly about being a masterclass of incivility or casting crude aspersions without justification.

  • APC needs N100bn annual budget to function optimally, says Lukman

APC needs N100bn annual budget to function optimally, says Lukman

A former member of the National Working Committee (NWC) the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Mallam Salihu Moh. Lukman has said that the party will require a minimum of N100 billion annual budget if it must effectively function as the governing party.

The immediate-past National Vice Chairman (North-west) also said the move by the Abdullahi Umar Ganduje-led NWC to establish the National Institute of Progressive Studies as part of its initiatives in 2024 would further help the party provide the required leadership mentorship for party administration in the country.

Lukman’s proposal was contained in a statement in honour of late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state, titled: “National Institute of Progressive Studies: Issues and Challenges” in Abuja on Monday.

An advocate of party supremacy, the former Director General of the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) expressed concern that once the issue of party funding is not resolved, the current reality whereby party leaders are not committed to discharging their responsibilities will continue.

He said: “If the organs of the party at all levels are to function as required by the provisions of the party’s constitution, the APC should have an annual budget of not less than N100 billion. Certainly, funding activities of States, Local Governments and organs of the party throughout the country would require not less than N50 billion.

Read Also: Ondo APC seeks unity ahead governorship poll

“With an annual budget of not less than N100 billion, how can the party mobilise the required funding? What will be the responsibilities of all the organs of the party in the process of fund mobilisation? How will the funds be shared and what will be the accountability structures that will be put in place?

“Part of what the budget of the party must clearly outline is unambiguous reward and conditions of service for party leadership at all levels. If the confidence of party leaders is to be strengthened, rewards and conditions of service for party leaders should be benchmarked with public service conditions of service. This would entail, for instance, that the National Chairman should have the same condition of service as the Vice President.

“Deputy National Chairmen should have the same conditions of service as the Senate President. National Secretary, the same conditions with Secretary to Government of the Federation. And other members of the National Working Committee should have the same conditions as Ministers.

“This should be cascaded down to states, local governments, and wards and should necessarily require that qualifications for all positions are appropriately benchmarked with corresponding public service qualifications. But first things first; the issue of party funding and the capacity to mobilise the funds to implement all these should be resolved beyond assumptions.

“A situation whereby the National Chairman of the party is reduced to a beggar, expecting charity from elected and appointed officials in government is unacceptable. Once that is the case capacity of the party to influence and regulate the conduct of elected and appointed officials in government will remain weak.”

The APC chieftain also lauded the proposed National Institute of Progressive Studies to be set up by the party.

He noted that the institute should be part of a wider strategic reform initiative by the party to ensure that structures of the party at all levels are functional and elected party leaders at all levels are oriented to deliver on their respective mandates as enshrined in the APC constitution.

On the recent NWC visit to the President, Lukman said: “This is a welcome development, which should be commended. Noting that the idea of establishing a Progressive Institute is as old as the APC, now that the National Chairman has expressed commitment to establish it in 2024, is a remarkable departure from the pronouncements of previous National Chairmen.

“Perhaps, also worthy of commendation is the initiative of Dr. Ganduje to visit President Asiwaju Tinubu together with all members of NWC. This has not happened in a long time. The last time the NWC, as a body, met with the President was probably during the tenure of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole between 2018 and 2020.”

  • APC forum canvasses support for commission

APC forum canvasses support for commission

The North Central All Progressive Congress (APC) Forum has canvassed support for the creation of the North Central Development Commission in order to accelerate the region’s advancement and to meet their development needs.

Speaking yesterday in Jos the Plateau State capital during his new year felicitation and 2024 blue print of the forum’s goals, the forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Mandung Zazzaga, said establishing the commission will not only make the challenges and other unfortunate security situation of the North Central region to be tackled, but will also enable the region to explore its full potentials, utilize same and occupy its pride of place in the nation.

Alhaji Zazzaga said the North Central region has great human and natural resources, and that it is a strong force to reckon with in terms of national politics, agriculture, education, mining and other mineral resources deposits.

He said even Abuja the nation’s capital is situated in the North Central, and so the region is a full force to reckon with, adding that the region has contributed to the growth of the country in many aspects, and that it still has many more to offer to the development of the nation if properly positioned.

That is why, he said, the APC forum is throwing its weight behind the Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District and former Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong’s push for the creation of the North Central Development Commission.

He said according to Lalong who spoke recently on the floor of the Senate on the motion of urgent public importance moved by Senator Diket Plang (Plateau Central) on the Christmas eve attacks that left close to 200 people dead in Bokkos, Barkin Ladi and Mangu Local Government Areas of the state, he said unless the Government moves fast to stop the carnage and rebuild the lives and economy of the region, poverty and more insecurity will prevail.

He said the position of Senator Lalong on the argument for creating the North East Development Commission and also at the verge of creating the South East Development Commission, that of the North Central Development Commission to address the damage of insecurity in the region is equally valid.

Zazzaga called on all the stakeholders in the region to join hands and push for the actualization of the commission irrespective of political and other differences as the commission is for the benefit of all and sundry.

The Chairman also appreciated President Bola Tinubu for having the region close to his heart and has so far been relating with it in a cordial and sincere manner, adding that the president should do everything possible to see that the commission for the region is established, as any tangible gains recorded by the commission will also be a credit to his administration.

He urged the President to remain focused and continue doing his good works, as his leadership style is unique and will gradually take Nigerians to the ‘promise land’ with a full yield of the dividends of democracy.
