Lagos APC to Obi: stop politicising terrorism

Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the latest reckless theatrics of Mr Peter Obi, ‘’who has shamelessly inserted himself into the ongoing judicial process involving Nnamdi Kanu, merely to claw back relevance in a political space that has long moved past him.’’

The party in statement yesterday by its spokesman Seye Oladejo in Ogba, Lagos, said: ‘’Obi’s misguided attempt to ‘tackle’ the Federal Government and reject a valid court ruling is nothing more than the cry of a man whose political career is in its last embarrassing throes. He is desperately fishing in troubled waters, hoping to harvest sympathy that the Nigerian people have already denied him at the polls.’’

Oladejo said only a man steeped in political confusion could refuse to condemn IPOB’s murderous activities, yet preached morality to the Nigerian state.

He noted that only a man drowning in irrelevance would pretend to care about justice, while ignoring the innocent citizens maimed, slaughtered, beheaded, extorted and silenced under the reign of terror unleashed by IPOB militants.

The Lagos APC spokesman said Peter Obi’s sudden moral awakening was fraudulent, his selective outrage was insulting and his attempt to dress up terrorism in the garb of sentiment was dangerous.

The statement added: ‘’The salient question that Peter Obi must answer is simple: Why the inconsistency in his position? How does he condemn Boko Haram and their ilk wholeheartedly in one breath, only to embrace, defend and rationalise IPOB in another?

‘’This two-faced political morality exposes his deep-seated bias, his hollow rhetoric and his desperate ambition disguised as compassion.

‘’We strongly recommend that Obi drops his ethnic blinders, read the judgement without emotions, and in good conscience return to Nigerians with the truth about his sincerity and his innermost desires for the nation he claims he wants to lead.

‘’There is nothing wrong in boldly admitting he is a regional champion committed to defending “his own”-  for good or for bad.

What is wrong, however, is deceiving Nigerians with feigned neutrality and hypocritical sermonising.

‘’If Obi truly believes his own words, let him first explain: Why he maintained criminal silence when the Southeast burned. Why he could not condemn IPOB even once with clarity or courage. Why he continually plays both sides of the fence- leader by day, sympathiser by night.’’

Oladejo said Obi’s rant was a pathetic audition for 2027 – another failed attempt to resurrect a political project ‘’that is now beyond resuscitation.’’

‘’He can rant from morning till night; national security will never be placed in the fragile hands of sentimentalists, who only speak when their political calculators beep. Nigeria will not negotiate its sovereignty to please a man battling political menopause.

‘’It is laughable- almost tragic – that Obi has found courage only at a time when Kanu’s fate is tied to a lawful judicial process. Where was this courage when IPOB criminals turned markets into war zones, instilled fear in school children and shut down the economic lifeline of his region every Monday? His cowardice then disqualifies him from pontificating now,’’ Oladejo further said.

He noted that before Obi lectured Nigeria on justice, he should explain: The disintegration of his political movement. The desertion of his supporters and the slow but steady collapse of his overhyped political myth.

‘’Obi is not fighting for justice. He is fighting for visibility. He is fighting for political oxygen.

He is fighting to avoid total oblivion.

    ‘’Nigerians must be alert to this dangerous brand of free-style politics – the type that seeks the destruction of what you cannot have;

the type that weaponises ethnic sentiments, insecurity and national trauma just to stay politically-relevant.

‘’It will be most unfortunate if this, in the fullness of time, becomes a classic example of: ‘Show me your friends, and I will tell you who you are.’

    ‘’Nigeria’s national security is non-negotiable.

Judicial processes must never be dictated by politicians in need of headlines.

‘’The Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will continue to handle matters of treason, terrorism and national stability with firmness, maturity and constitutional authority.

‘’Lagos APC urges Nigerians to treat Obi’s statement as what it is: a self-serving cry from a man watching his political walls collapse.

‘’Nigeria must not and will not be bullied by the theatrics of a desperate politician,‘’ statement said.

  • Ganduje, Kano APC stakeholders endorse Tinubu for second term

Ganduje, Kano APC stakeholders endorse Tinubu for second term

Former Governor of Kano State and ex-National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has led party executives and stakeholders in Kano to formally endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the APC’s sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

Ganduje, who briefed newsmen about the endorsement said the decision taken after a three-day meeting with party leaders from the North Senatorial District, which ended on Sunday in Kano.

The stakeholders meeting included local government chairmen and caucus members across the 44 local government areas and 484 wards of the state.

The purpose of the meeting was to ensure solidarity within the party and support for the federal government under President Tinubu, Ganduje said.

“As we move towards 2027, there is need for us to ensure complete unity in our party, from top to bottom,” he said.

He noted, “The meeting was also aimed at renewing commitment in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”

He stressed the importance of the solidarity and pledged unwavering support for the federal government.

He said, “We must ensure that all our party offices at the local government and ward levels are physically accessible and functionally operative.

“Party executives and delegates were requested to return home and formally endorse Tinubu at their constituencies.”

Ganduje also highlighted plans to implement e-registration of party members, directing each local government to provide three computer experts to be trained at the state headquarters before rolling out the programme across the state.

The ex-governor assured that Kano would again record the highest number of registered party members during the exercise.

He urged members to comply with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines by ensuring that all eligible citizens aged 18 and above register in line with the ongoing nationwide voter registration exercise.

Ganduje reaffirmed the APC’s resolve to maintain unity and active participation at all levels ahead of the 2027 elections.

The roll call of the meeting included Kano State 2023 APC governorship candidate, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, his running mate, Murtala Sule-Garo, and House of Representatives member Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, among other prominent APC chieftains in the state.

North-Central APC forum seeks leadership change, calls for broader unity in party

Fresh tensions have emerged within the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the North-Central APC Forum has called for a change in the party’s national leadership, urging President Bola Tinubu and party stakeholders to consider appointing a more experienced national chairman at the December 2025 convention.

In a statement on Sunday, the Forum’s Chairman, Saleh Zazzaga, said the group now regrets its earlier agitation that paved the way for the return of the national chairmanship position to the North-Central zone in July 2025.

The Forum apologised to President Tinubu, Ganduje, and other senior leaders for its role in advocating for the zoning arrangement, saying the outcome had not met its expectations.

According to the Forum, the party requires leadership that can foster unity, promote inclusiveness, and strengthen cohesion across the North-Central and the wider APC family.

It argued that competence and broad political experience should guide the selection of the next chairman, even if the position goes to another region.

The group also noted that the North-Central already occupies key roles in the current administration, including the offices of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Attorney-General of the Federation, and the head of the North-Central Development Commission.

In addition, the Forum said it remained committed to strengthening the APC in Plateau State and across the region, emphasising the need for cooperation among all stakeholders to boost the party’s prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It encouraged the party leadership to ensure an open and inclusive process that supports unity, accommodates new members, and positions the APC for stronger electoral performance.

2027: Former Oyo APC guber candidate Folarin meets Adelabu in Ibadan

…as meeting parks talks of renewed APC alliance ahead of 2027

The 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Senator Teslim Folarin, on Sunday, paid a courtesy visit to the minister of power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, at his Iyaganku residence in Ibadan.

The meeting between the former Senate leader and the minister has triggered political reactions, with many interpreting it as a possible move toward rebuilding alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections in the state.

Confirming the visit, an aide to Adelabu, Otunba Femi Awogboro, described Folarin as “an elder brother who came to visit his junior,” adding that both leaders discussed the need to set aside past differences and work together toward returning the APC to power in 2027.

The development comes just days after Folarin reportedly met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to discuss the state of the APC in Oyo.

Folarin and Adelabu have been political rivals since 2019, when Adelabu emerged as the APC governorship candidate to succeed the late former governor, Abiola Ajimobi.

In 2023, Folarin clinched the party’s ticket, prompting Adelabu to defect to Accord for his own governorship bid before later returning to the APC.

  • Osun 2026: APC and the zoning question

Osun 2026: APC and the zoning question

The 2026 Osun State gubernatorial election readily presents the All Progressives Congress (APC) with both a challenge and an opportunity. While some have advocated zoning the ticket to Osun West, a detailed examination of political realities, party performance data, and the current administration’s failures reveals that the Osun East Senatorial District represents the APC’s most strategic path to victory.

Since assuming office in 2022, Governor Ademola Adeleke’s PDP led administration has failed to advance Osun State despite substantial resources at its disposal. The evidence is stark:

Education in Crisis: Osun State University (UNIOSUN), once a beacon of academic excellence, has deteriorated to subpar levels compared to peer institutions in the region. Also the governor’s decision to sack 1,500 teachers without replacement has created a vacuum in the education sector that undermines the future of Osun’s children.

Employment Scandals: Successful job applicants who paid application fees remain in limbo, with the administration delaying their employment indefinitely. This betrayal of young Osun residents speaks to a government more concerned with political optics than delivering tangible results.

Health and Security Decline: Both sectors have witnessed measurable deterioration under the current administration, with citizens feeling increasingly vulnerable and underserved.

Governance by Performance: While Governor Adeleke has earned the moniker “dancing governor,” his penchant for celebration has not translated into policy substance. Allegations of crass hedonism and lack of focus have overshadowed any meaningful governance achievements.

This record of failure creates an opening for the APC—but only if the party makes the right strategic choice.

As the countdown to Osun 2026 draws nigh, several opinions have reared their heads or rent the political atmosphere. A minority like analysis have sprung up in favour of zoning the ticket to Osun West where the wobbling incumbent hails from. These yesmen naively tout the “ Edo Template” but have failed to see that the factors which favoured a Monday Okpebholo’s  emergence as Edo State Governor is lacking or non-existent in the Osun scenario.  I will give a few examples here.

First, Governor Adeleke will definitely run for a second term as the constitution permits him, in the Edo Template, Okpebholo was running not against an incumbent but a newbie in Asue Ighodalo, even a five year old can differentiate between the two scenarios. In addition to this, let us note that Senator Okpebholo was a sitting senator, something Osun West APC presently lacks.

Third, is the fact that Obaseki was at war with the powerful Oba of Benin, his estranged predecessor, Adams Oshiomole and his erstwhile loyal deputy, Philip Shuaibu amongst many other interest groups within the PDP at both national and state levels( Wike and Dan Orbih respectively), the same cannot be said of Adeleke who maintains strong traditional relationships and controls the party machinery.

Then there is the reputed voting strength of the Adeleke’s in Osun West, particularly in Ede North and South, such voting patterns witnessed in the days of the late Isiaka Adeleke( Serubawon) in 1992 , 2007, 2011, 2014 and then in 2017,  both Isiaka and Ademola Adeleke have  dominated Osun West with overwhelming margins. Both figures did consistently deliver crushing victories with massive margins which resemble some sort of cult following, the verdict is simple:  any APC candidate from Osun West would face Adeleke’s home advantage without any meaningful end result. The APC has no strong man from Osun West,  who can match Adeleke’s gubernatorial incumbency advantage.

While it is agreed that the principle of zoning exists to ensure equity for politically disadvantaged areas, however, Osun West has produced two governors since state creation—both from Ede Federal Constituency. Now,  if fairness guides zoning, the logical approach would be: Zone  to other areas within Osun West, either  to Ikire or Iwo Federal Constituencies (never represented),and  yet even with the number disparity,  the stark reality is that Adeleke’s dominance in Ede and Osun West as a whole will readily take the wind out of such sails. In addition to this, why would the rest of Osun readily vote another son from Osun West for a possible tenure of eight years when they can pitch their tent with Adeleke, and have power shift to another zone or district?  After all 4 will always be better than eight!

Again, the principle of zoning exists to ensure equity for politically disadvantaged areas. Osun West haven produced two governors since state creation—both from Ede Federal Constituency should require that another zone be presented for the election proper. If indeed fairness guides zoning, the logical approach would be to recognize zones or constituencies  that have not produced a governor. Constituencies like —Ile-Ife, Ijebu-Jesa and Osogbo. This makes the equity argument favor Osun East much more stronger than  any claim from Osun West, since another term for Adeleke will give Osun West three stints in Government House Oshogbo, Osun East would have only had two compared with Osun Central which has also had three stints.

    The Omisore Factor?

Senator Iyiola Omisore as a political juggernaut embodies the required  experience and structure to give Adeleke a good fight and return Osun APC to power.  A one time deputy governor, senator,  two time guber candidate and party scribe, we can readily recall how as the ‘beautiful bride’ in 2018, he helped rescue Oyetola and the APC from the jaws of defeat and it did not just end there, Omisore’s Osun East Senatorial District was the only district that delivered victory for APC in 2022 with the same Oyetola winning five local governments in Osun East.

In addition to this, readers must note that Osun East is the only district where all National Assembly members belong to APC—the senator and all representatives; why should APC then reward another zone that cannot boast of such credentials with a guber ticket?

Osun East also boasts of huge voter populations with Ife East ranking second  (114,404) and Ife Central (113,232) ranking third respectively in voter strength statewide, trailing only Osogbo, a combination of these factors and

decades of Omisore’s commanding presence in Osun’s politics is the fillip for an Osun APC victory in 2026. An Omisore candidacy should guarantee that all 10 local governments in Osun East would be in the APC ‘ s kitty and serve as a springboard to the party’s victory.

In conclusion, the APC must nominate an Osun East candidate, specifically Iyiola Omisore, to defeat the incumbent in 2026. Osun East offers not only strong APC institutional presence across all legislative seats, but also proven party loyalty, electoral resilience, and high voter concentration in strategic areas. The zone can maximize margins while competing effectively in Osun  Central and making inroads in Osun West.

In contrast, Osun West presents Adeleke’s overwhelming incumbency advantage in his home zone, weak APC infrastructure, and the risk of splitting the home district while failing to dominate elsewhere. Omisore has likewise demonstrated unwavering APC loyalty through total commitment and unequivocal sacrifices, along with the ability to mobilize Osun East while building coalitions in Central and West districts.

The victory formula requires maximizing margins in Osun East to create an insurmountable lead, competing strongly in Osun Central by leveraging senatorial and ministerial influence, and targeting disaffected voters in Osun West by exploiting Adeleke’s performance gaps. Drawing lessons from past elections, the APC must prioritize strategy and political realities above zoning sentiments. These considerations are indeed  essential for reclaiming Osun State via an Omisore candidacy.

  • Atah rejects Kano APC warning, reaffirms support for Barau

Atah rejects Kano APC warning, reaffirms support for Barau

Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Atah, has responded to the warning by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano stating his recent statements were within his democratic rights without the intention of causing friction within the party.

The Kano chapter of the APC had in a letter by the chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, accused Atah of “acting as the mouthpiece of the party and making remarks capable of causing disaffection among members.”

The letter added: “The party observed that you (Minister) are in the habit of making such uncomplimentary and derogatory public pronouncement and therefore has no alternative than to warn you to restrain from such behavior, failure in which the party may be compelled to take disciplinary action against you.”

The letter was copied to President Bola Tinubu and the national secretariat of the APC.

But in a statement by his publicity aide, Seyi Olorunsola, the myinister said he was issuing a formal response for clarity purpose, public education and restating unwavering loyalty to the party and Mr president.

Atah cautioned against dragging internal party matters to national spotlight at a time when the country is grappling with urgent security concerns.

The statement said: “The Honourable Minister views the decision to draft and circulate such a letter—especially one copied to the president—at a time when Nigeria faces a declared national security emergency, as an unnecessary distraction.

“With the President suspending his international engagements, including the G-20 Summit in South Africa and a planned AU meeting in Angola, in order to attend to urgent state security matters, the priority of every patriotic leader should be unity, focus, and unwavering support for the Commander-in-Chief.

“The Minister wishes to reaffirm that, beyond being a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and a proud member of the APC in Kano State, he is first and foremost a citizen of Nigeria with constitutionally guaranteed freedom of expression and opinion.

“The Minister ‘s loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and the APC is unquestionable and has been demonstrated consistently through sacrifice and commitment to party’s ideals.

“Therefore, any suggestion that his recent public comments amount to ‘disaffection’ or an attempt to arrogate party leadership to himself is not only unfounded but reflects a narrow and erroneous understanding of democratic rights and internal party dynamics.

“If offering a sincere, well-reasoned, and patriotic opinion on the future direction of the party ahead of the 2027 elections is what the writers of the letter consider a wrongdoing, then the Minister stands ‘guilty as charged’—guilty only of loving his party enough to speak truthfully and strategically at a crucial moment.”

Atah also addressed concerns following his recent endorsement of Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau’s 2027 governorship ambition, which party members said prompted the warning from the Kano APC.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the minister’s recent comments on the suitability of the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, as the most viable gubernatorial candidate for the APC in 2027, were personal and patriotic assessments—not official party declarations.

“Senator Barau represents, in the Minister ‘s view, the strongest and most unifying choice for the APC to reclaim Government House Kano at the 2027 general election.

“This assessment is based on sound political foresight and decades of engagement with the grassroots.

“The minister believes party leaders should welcome strategic thinking that positions the APC for victory before formal nomination processes begin.

“His comments were never intended to usurp the powers of party organs, rather, they were reflections of democratic analysis—open to debate, disagreement, or acceptance by party members.

“The Minister remains committed to the APC, to the President, and to the peace and progress of Kano State,” the statement said.

  • Ondo APC backs state police, seeks legislation in Akeredolu’s honour

Ondo APC backs state police, seeks legislation in Akeredolu’s honour

The governing All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has called on the National Assembly to urgently initiate constitutional amendments that would pave the way for the creation of state police.

In a statement on Saturday in Akure, the party’s spokesman, Steve Otaloro, described the agitation as a necessary response to Nigeria’s worsening insecurity, particularly the growing wave of kidnappings and banditry in the country.

Otaloro explained that the ongoing national conversations have shown that the country has reached a “consensus point” on the need for decentralised policing.

He said the rising cases of rural banditry, violent herdsmen attacks, kidnapping, urban crime, and infiltration of extremist groups across the borders have exposed the limitations of a single, centralised police structure.

The APC spokesman acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s efforts in enhancing national security through increased deployments, acquisition of modern equipment, improved intelligence gathering and strengthened collaboration with state governments.

He revealed that Nigeria has entered “a new and dangerous phase” of insecurity that requires innovative solutions.

“However, it is increasingly clear that the Nigeria Police Force, despite its dedication and sacrifices, cannot fully secure every community across the federation without structured support from state-level policing systems,” Otaloro said.

He asked the federal lawmakers to fast-track deliberations and pass a comprehensive law that would empower states to establish and manage their own police structures against the backdrop of mounting security challenges and

Otaloro recalled that the former Governor, late Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, was one of the earliest and strongest advocates of state police, stating that his consistent push for decentralised policing, laid the intellectual and constitutional foundation for today’s national conversations.

He proposed that the legislation be named the “Akeredolu State Police Bill” in honour of the late governor, whose unwavering commitment to decentralised policing transformed national security discourse.

According to him, the proposed bill would reduce the pressure on the Nigeria Police Force, strengthen local intelligence networks, curb banditry, herdsmen attacks, kidnapping, and communal clashes, enable the federal government to focus more on counterterrorism and border security.

He urged lawmakers to set aside political, ethnic and partisan considerations and prioritise the national interest.

“Nigeria’s security future depends on bold reforms that combine federal capacity with state-level responsiveness. The success of Amotekun – pioneered by Akeredolu and sustained by Aiyedatiwa has already shown that state-backed community policing works and is indispensable.”

Otaloro noted that Akeredolu demonstrated foresight by recognising the emerging threats of banditry, cross-border terrorism, and widespread attacks on farmlands at a time many downplayed the dangers.

He maintained that his establishment of the Amotekun Corps despite resistance from the federal government and legal hurdles from the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) was a visionary move that eventually birthed a model for grassroots security across the Southwest.

The statement also commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who, as deputy governor, played a key role in the strategy sessions, legal consultations, and operational planning that led to the creation of Amotekun.

It added that since Aiyedatiwa assumed office, he has further strengthened the local security outfits through enhanced training, improved logistics, expanded intelligence capacity, better welfare for operatives, and deeper collaboration with federal agencies.

“These interventions have earned Amotekun national praise for discipline, professionalism, and measurable results,” the party.

The party, however, maintained that passing the proposed State Police Bill, and naming it after a leader “who saw tomorrow,” would strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture and safeguard the nation for generations to come.

2027: APC state secretaries pass vote of confidence on Tinubu

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Forum of APC State Secretaries has expressed full confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, praising his management of the country’s affairs.

The announcement was made by the Forum’s Chairman and Nasarawa State Secretary, Yarius Gbeba Dagusa, following a key meeting of the group in Abuja on Friday.

Dagusa commended the President for the administration’s achievements over the past two years, noting that Nigeria is on a steady path to progress and development.

He highlighted key milestones, including economic reforms, currency stabilization, removal of the fuel subsidy, and the resultant increase in resources available to governments at all levels.

“Nigeria achieved a record trade surplus of $14.31 billion in 2024, and the Central Bank of Nigeria reported a historic surplus of $6.83 billion. The 2025 statistics are even more promising,” Dagusa said. “Economic recovery and growth may be gradual, but it is steadily moving the country out of the challenges inherited by this administration. Better days are ahead for Nigeria.”

He added, “Consequently, the forum has passed a vote of confidence on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his effective management of the country.”

Appreciating the President for his foresight and commitment, the state secretaries assured party leadership and members of their determination to advance both the party and the government.

Dagusa urged all stakeholders to join hands with the President in strengthening the party and building a brighter future for Nigeria.

“Together, let us work tirelessly to promote the ideals of democracy, transparency, and accountability,” he said.

The forum also expressed concern over the state of insecurity, commiserating with families of victims of recent terror attacks, particularly the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State.

The secretaries commended the Nigerian military and pledged their support for President Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to tackle insurgency, terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of insecurity in the country.

  • Daniel remains suspended, says Ward 4 Sagamu Council APC

Daniel remains suspended, says Ward 4 Sagamu Council APC

As the furore over purported suspension of the lawmaker representing Ogun East in the Senate, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, rages, the Executive Committee of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 4, Sagamu Local Government, has reaffirmed its decision on the matter, declaring that Senator Daniel remains suspended from the party.

This came on the heels of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC coming out to reaffirm that the former governor of Ogun State still remains a member of the party, directing Ogun State chapter to stop correspondence on the purported suspension ‘’until this highest national organ of APC investigates and deliberates on it.’’

However, addressing reporters yesterday at the ward secretariat in Sabo, Sagamu, the Secretary of Ward 4, Oluwole Aduroja, said the suspension of Otunba Daniel followed due process after he refused to honour invitations to defend himself against allegations of anti-party activities.

Aduroja, who spoke on behalf of the 19-member Executive Committee, in company with the Ward Chairman, Adebayo Ismail, said the clarification became necessary in view of the statement issued by MJS Partners, a law firm of Daniel’s counsel, Prof. Yemi Oke, SAN, regarding the November 17 letter from the national secretariat of the APC.

Aduroja said the Ward Executive Committee unanimously resolved to suspend the senator after repeatedly failing to appear before an investigative panel set up to examine petitions accusing him of activities considered antithetical to the health of the party.

The ward secretary traced the alleged misconduct of Senator Daniel to the last general election, saying he “acted in open defiance of the party and engaged in actions inimical to the interest of the APC and its candidates in Ogun State.”

“Beyond the elections, he further attempted to obstruct and frustrate the course of justice during the Election Petition Tribunal sittings through actions and interventions that were directly hostile to the interest of the APC and its candidates. These and many more remain the unchallenged anti-party activities of the suspended senator,” Aduroja said.

On the position of the National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Bashiru, as contained in the November 17 letter, he maintained that the APC Constitution empowered the relevant Executive Committee, whether at the ward, local government, state, zonal or national level to initiate disciplinary proceedings against any erring member.

He said Article 21(5)(vii) of the party constitution, while granting the National Working Committee (NWC) the power to suspend members, did not nullify the disciplinary authority of the executive committees at other levels, nor did it subject their decisions to NWC review.

“On the contrary, any disciplinary action taken by an Executive Council, including suspension, is subject only to appeal as outlined in Article 21(4). For the purpose of emphasis, no provision of Article 21(4) subjects the decision to suspend the senator to the oversight of the National Working Committee,” he explained.

Aduroja reaffirmed the commitment of Ward 4’s Executive Committee to upholding discipline, fairness and due process within the party, insisting that “the suspension of Senator Daniel remains in full effect.”

Ibadan APC members insist on reinstating elected chairman, oppose tenure extension

Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibadan North West Local Government Area of Oyo State have opposed the continued tenure of the party’s acting chairman, Olusola Tokunbo Adekanbi, insisting he must step aside for the duly elected chairman, Alhaji Jelili Asukuna.

The demand was made on Thursday during an emergency meeting held at Ebenezer African Church Primary School, Omitowoju, where hundreds of party members gathered to address what they described as lingering issues within the local chapter.

A party chieftain, Adekunle Abass Akande, who moved the motion, said the decision was necessary to restore order and ensure that only the recognised executives steer the party’s affairs.

“We are here to find solutions to the problems affecting us. Those currently ruling are not the authentic executives. We want the recognised chairman and other elected officers to take their rightful positions,” he said.

“We resolve that the acting chairman should step aside. We elected the authentic executives, and they are the ones recognised at the national level. There is no crisis here.”

Also speaking, former leader of the Ibadan North West legislative arm, Hon. Remi Ajanaku, said the move was aimed at bringing sanity back to the party.

“Our resolution is that the acting chairman should step aside for the authentic chairman to take over. This decision is to correct the illegalities we have observed and restore order in the party,” he stated.
