    The ex-minister and his interests

These are not the best of times for a noted All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain from the South-South geopolitical zone. The man who also used to be a state governor and one-time minister is on the ropes as it were. But it’s not only his economic interests that are threatened, those of his loyalists are under pressure as individuals with  federal connections are angling to take over their existing surveillance contracts.

They are moaning that moves to hijack the surveillance contract of loyalists to the Niger-Delta born politician were politically motivated,  and warning that cancelling their meal ticket would be counter productive.

Already, certain youth groups within the ruling APC are accusing the administration in this South-South state of collaborating with vested interests in the state to undermine our man’s interests.

The youths lamented that the only offence of the targeted surveillance contractors was their steadfast loyalty to the under-fire politician. They insiste that executing what they claim is a  witchhunt against founding  members of APC who had given their all to the party would hamper peace in the state.

The youths said: “Any attempt to wrest these contracts from them, if true, would represent not only an act of political victimisation but also a direct threat to the economic stability of hundreds of youths who rely on these engagements for their survival.

The APC youths said allowing such a plot  would be deeply regrettable and could further inflame existing tensions in a state already grappling with economic and political strain.

“It would be disappointing, and indeed unnecessary, for individuals in such privileged positions to seek control over the modest enterprises that sustain many ordinary citizens.

“What is playing out, in our view, reflects an increasingly intolerant and overreaching political culture—one that seems driven more by insecurity and resentment than by genuine public interest. Having already manoeuvred to dominate political structures built through the sacrifices of others, one must ask: what more is there left to take?

They called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to use his good offices to ensure fairness and restraint in the handling of matters affecting peace, livelihood, and cohesion in the state.

“We urge all actors to remember that the essence of leadership is service, not conquest, and that governance should never descend into a zero-sum contest of personal interests.

“We remain committed to pursuing every legitimate and peaceful avenue to resist any unjust or economically harmful action against our members”, they said.

…party rakes in N450m from sales of nomination forms

Ahead of the December 13, 2025, All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election, former National Secretary of the party, Senator Iyiola Omisore, and eight other aspirants have entered the race for the party’s ticket for the August 8, 2026, Osun State Governorship Election.

At the close of sales of nomination and expression of interest forms on Thursday night, nine aspirants, eight men and one woman had obtained the forms.

Those in the race include former deputy governor Senator Iyiola Omisore; development financier Babatunde Hareter Oralusi; former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji; former PDP chieftain, Bar. Oyedotun Babayemi, and the immediate past deputy governor, Benedict Olugboyega Alabi.

According to the timetable released by the APC National Organizing Secretary, Alhaji Sulaiman Muhammad Arugungu, aspirants must submit their completed forms and required documents by Monday, December 1, 2025.

Screening will be conducted in Abuja on December 3 and 4, while the results would be published on December 5, followed by a screening appeal on December 6.

The primary election will hold on December 13.

The Nation gathered that party leaders and key stakeholders are scheduled to meet on Saturday to discuss the possibility of adopting a consensus candidate ahead of the 2026 governorship poll.

However, a party chieftain, who spoke in confidence, criticised the move, saying the meeting was coming too late.

“What happened to the previous meetings? The aspirants were never informed of the outcome. The leaders allowed aspirants to purchase forms, and now they are trying to push for consensus. If we truly want to reclaim the state, the party should allow a primary election. Whoever wins should be supported by others,” he said.

Meanwhile, the APC has realised N450 million from the sale of forms to the nine aspirants.

Eight male aspirants paid N50 million each, while the only female aspirant paid N10 million for the expression of interest form, in line with the party’s free nomination policy for women and youths under 40.

Insecurity: Southwest APC warns saboteurs, seeks collaborative effort to end menace

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South West has urged Nigerians to unite in tackling the growing security challenges across the country, warning those allegedly aiding insecurity to desist from sabotaging national efforts.

The zonal leadership called on all stakeholders to urgently develop practical strategies to address the rising incidents of killings, kidnapping, and other organised crimes reported in parts of the country.

In a statement issued by the APC South West Zonal Publicity Secretary, Ayobami Afolabi, the party attributed the worsening situation to individuals within and outside the system who do not wish the nation well.

Afolabi commended the federal government and affected state governors for their swift and coordinated response, which he said contributed to the timely rescue of victims recently abducted during the attacks.

“In recent times, there has been an increase in cases of violent attacks against some innocent citizens, especially in the northern part of the country, and the patterns of these reported incidents were similar.

“This validated the opinion of many pundits who had established the fact that cases of terrorism, banditry, and related crimes in Nigeria were being sponsored from within and outside for political and economic interests.

“To this end, every patriotic citizen must rise to the challenge in their private and official capacity. There is no economic or political status desired by any individual or group that is worth the lives of innocent people who fall victim to violent attacks, as the situation calls for collaborative efforts and decisive actions from those in power and the rest of the citizenry.

“State governors have to encourage and empower community-based security outfits to complement the efforts of federal security agencies, while residents should help in the area of intelligence gathering.

“Undoubtedly, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is poised to deliver his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda to benefit all parts of the country as well as every citizen and resident of Nigeria. We should not play into the hands of those who do not wish our country well.

“With the latest declaration of state of emergency on security and the directive on mass recruitment into the Army and Police Force by the president, sponsors of insecurity and their agents should have a rethink as all saboteurs would have themselves to blame.”

Most of Adeleke’s appointees would rate his third anniversary poorly – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has said that many members of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s cabinet and appointees would give his administration a low rating as it marks its third anniversary.

Speaking during a press conference at the party’s state secretariat along the Osogbo/Ibadan Road on Thursday, APC leaders declared that they are fully prepared to defeat the governor in the 2026 election.

The party’s Director of Media, Chief Kola Olabisi, criticised the administration for what he described as poor performance despite increased federal allocations resulting from President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms.

According to him, the state relies heavily on federal allocation without making efforts to boost internally generated revenue.

He accused the governor of favouritism in project execution and appointments, alleging that most completed projects and political positions are concentrated in Adeleke’s hometown and community.

Olabisi also faulted the prolonged two-month strike by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), which he said has left thousands of cases unresolved and crippled judicial activities in the state.

Similarly, former Commissioner for Information, Chief Sunday Akere, stated that as many as 60 percent of Adeleke’s cabinet members and appointees would score his administration low. He argued that the state has drifted toward “systemic failure” under the current government.

Akere further alleged that the administration operates with only two arms of government, contrary to the constitutional requirement for separation of powers and functional institutions, warning that the situation reflects deeper governance challenges in the state.

Security challenges: APC hails Tinubu’s emergency declaration

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended President Bola Tinubu for declaring a national security emergency and approving the recruitment of 20,000 additional police officers.

The Lagos State APC Spokesman, Mr Seye Oladejo, in a statement in Lagos on Thursday, said the decision reflected the President’s decisive and courageous leadership.

He described the move as a historic escalation of Nigeria’s security response, noting that the approved recruitment  would lead to intake of 50,000 new officers.

Oladejo said the Lagos APC viewed the declaration of a security emergency as a significant shift from previous approaches to tackling insecurity across the country.

He said the President’s directive demonstrated an intention to strengthen the country’s security architecture in both manpower and operational capacity.

According to him, the recruitment of 20,000 additional officers shows the administration’s resolve to adopt a more proactive and offensive posture in confronting criminal activities.

“The recruitment approved by President Tinubu signals a renewed national strategy that prioritises intelligence, presence, and operational readiness,” he said.

Oladejo added that the President’s decision would “further empower security institutions to overwhelm criminal elements threatening Nigeria’s peace.”

The spokesman said the party also welcomed Tinubu’s call on the National Assembly to review existing laws to enable the possible establishment of state police.

He described the call as a bold departure from what he termed longstanding limitations that had hindered states from deploying more localised security solutions.

Oladejo said the Lagos APC regarded the push for legislative action as evidence of the administration’s readiness to address structural gaps in the country’s policing framework.

“This is the type of leadership Nigeria has needed for decades — leadership that is ready to take hard decisions for national safety,” he said.

He added that the reforms proposed by the President could mark a turning point in Nigeria’s efforts to decentralise policing.

According to him, empowering states to create their own police formations would improve response time and help address security challenges unique to each region.

Oladejo said the party believed the President’s position demonstrated an awareness of the need to modernise Nigeria’s security institutions to deal with emerging threats.

The spokesman said that the Lagos APC would continue to support what he called the President’s efforts to stabilise the country and protect citizens.

He said the party remained confident that the measures announced by the President would contribute significantly to improving security outcomes nationwide.

Oladejo restated the party’s alignment with Tinubu’s security initiatives ,aimed at effectively securing the country.

APC chieftain urges NASS to fast track passage of Anim state bill

The National Vice-Chairman (South-East) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Ijeomah Arodiogbu has urged the National Assembly to ensure the passage of Anim State bill seeking the creation of a new state for the South East.

The APC chieftain urged the lawmakers to let the joint constitutional amendment package include Anim State among the new states presented to President Bola Tinubu.

Arodiogbu made the call in a statement he personally signed on Sunday in Abuja.

The APC chieftain explained that a new state for the South East will restore balance to the region which presently has five states.

He stated: “For more than fifty years the South-East geopolitical zone has carried the burden of being the only zone with five states while the South-West, South-South, North-Central, North-East and North-West enjoy six or seven states each.

“This imbalance is not just a statistical curiosity; it translates into fewer senators, fewer members of the House of Representatives, fewer federal constituencies, fewer votes at the National Economic Council, smaller monthly allocations from the Federation Account, fewer ministerial positions and fewer appointments into federal boards and parastatals.

“It has created a structural disadvantage that no amount of individual brilliance or collective industry by the people of the South-East can fully overcome.

Members of Coalition of Osogbo Youths and Women Groups have pledged their support for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said: “The recently updated voter register in Osun State (through the Continuous Voter Registration), has resulted in 1, 954, 800 registered voters, with 360,794 uncollected Permanent Voter Cards. With this update, Osogbo and Olorunda have no fewer than 300,000 registered voters, which represent 15 per cent of the total registration in the state, which is the highest from any town.

“We urge APC leadership to ensure the party’s governorship candidate is from Osogbo.’’

Osun 2026: Why we will support APC against PDP, ADC, others, by Osogbo community

The Osogbo community in Osun State has pledged to back the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2026 governorship election, provided the party’s ticket is zoned to the town.

The assurance was given to President Bola Tinubu, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola, and APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru.

Represented by the Coalition of Osogbo Youth and Women Groups, the community argued that only the APC can meet their political aspirations, as other parties have decided to allocate the governorship ticket to the Osun West Senatorial District.

Speaking for the eight community groups, Barrister Abdulrahman Okunade, highlighted Osogbo’s electoral influence, noting that its two local government areas often determine the outcome of the gubernatorial race.

He added that recent voter registration figures show Osogbo and Olorunda combined have over 300,000 registered voters—about 15% of the state’s total, the highest from any single town.

Okunade further pointed out that despite Senator Basiru’s withdrawal, two Osogbo-origin aspirants—Kunle Adegoke, SAN, and Professor Rafiu Durodoye—have broad support across traditional institutions, youth groups, business circles, and civic organizations.

He urged the APC leadership to ensure the governorship candidate comes from Osogbo, emphasizing that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have already reserved their tickets for the West Senatorial District, while the APC is still screening its aspirants.

Echoing the sentiment, Mr. Olusola Abass said, “If the party agreed to our demand, the community would wholeheartedly support APC in 2026 and ensure its victory.”

Security: APC backs S/West govs’ renewed call for state police, urges swift establishment

The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared support for the renewed call by South West governors for the  creation of state police, urging President Bola Tinubu to use his office to  hasten its establishment.

The party said the proposal was timely and aligned with long-standing demands by stakeholders in the region for a more responsive security framework.

The party chapter  expressed the suppport  in a statement issued on Tuesday in  by its spokesman, Mr Seye Oladejo.

Oladejo said the call by the governors reflected a deep understanding of the evolving security challenges confronting communities in the South West and other parts of the the country.

According to him,the security challenges facing the country require multi-layered policing solutions, and the time for state police is not just ripe, it is overdue

The spokesman said the South West had consistently championed reforms aimed at decentralizing policing and strengthening community-based security structures.

He noted that regional initiatives such as the Western Nigeria Security Network, Amotekun, had demonstrated the benefits of localised response mechanisms to crime and emerging threats.

Oladejo said the introduction of state police would enhance intelligence gathering, strengthen response capabilities and improve coordination between security agencies.

He added that a multi-layered policing architecture was becoming increasingly necessary as criminal activities grow in sophistication.

The spokesman said the governors’ position reinforced President Tinubu’s commitment to modernising Nigeria’s security system.

He said the party believed that state police, if professionally regulated and federally coordinated, would complement ongoing national security efforts.

Oladejo urged Nigerians to approach the conversation with objectivity and avoid politicising an issue he described as central to national stability.

He said fear-driven narratives would not help the country address pressing security concerns.

The spokesman called on citizens to engage constructively on how the proposed policing structure could function effectively within Nigeria’s federal system.

Oladejo reiterated the party’s confidence in President Tinubu’s capacity to deliver far-reaching security reforms to protect lives and property.

Akwa Ibom council : APC need not campaign in 2027

All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Essien Udim Local Government of Akwa Ibom State have said the party won’t need to campaign in the area for 2027, citing projects, empowerment programmes and appointments facilitated by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and Governor Umo Eno.

They spoke at the Maiden Home Going Weekend organised by APC at a rally in the council secretariat field, Afaha Ikot Ebak.

Chairman, Ntiedo Usoro, said APC had grown into a formidable political force in the state due to sacrifices and strategic decisions of Senate president, particularly his defection from PDP. He said Akpabio’s “unthinkable” political move at the time “watered the seed” that produced APC-led government and the state’s attainment of No. 3 position in the country.

Usoro stressed importance of the voter registration and urged indigenes, aged 18 and above, to register and obtain their PVCs to support APC in 2027. He reaffirmed the resolve of people to return President Bola Tinubu, Akpabio, and Umo Eno to office in 2027. He said the political and economic progress witnessed in was due to their leadership. “Essien Udim owes Senate president honour for what he has done for the people, and we must reciprocate the respect and collaboration Governor Eno has shown by delivering block votes in 2027,” he said.

Member representing Essien Udim State Constituency, Ukpong Akpabio II, said the governor had directed members to return home for meetings, but Essien Udim chose to hold a rally as a demonstration of support. He said the turnout and enthusiasm showed that the APC would not need to campaign in Essien Udim. “In 2027, the sound of votes from Essien Udim will echo at INEC. The President, Senate president and governor do not need to campaign here. We will do the work, vote, protect the votes and ensure they are all returned to office,” he said.

In his remarks, Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Dr. Anthony Luke, said his appointment into the State Executive Council was by the benevolence of Governor Eno, and he owed the Governor total loyalty. “I have no reason not to follow my boss, the Governor, into the APC. Essien Udim also has no reason not to support their son, the Senate President, and ensure the Governor returns for a second term,” he said. He added that infrastructural development across all wards in Essien Udim, facilitated by the Senate President, made it obligatory for the people to support him in 2027.

Goodwill messages were delivered by several leaders including the Member representing Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency, Hon. Patrick Umoh; Envoy Nsentip Akpabio; Sir Nse Ntuen; Engr. Camillus Umoh; Sir Sunyiekekere Inokon; Engr. Oliver Ebong; and Sir Victor Udofia. The event also featured a march past by all wards in the LGA, led by their chairmen, leaders, political appointees and party members.
