“When you are in one accord and unite together in one voice, it will drive development into Oke Ogun and its environs. I urge you to pray and stay focused on the work ahead that will bring the dividends of democracy to Okeho, Saki, and other areas,” Gbadegesin added.

Northwest APC chairman hails General Musa’s nomination as Minister of Defence

The National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Northwest Hon. Garba Datti Muhammad, has applauded the nomination of immediate past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, as the new Minister of Defence by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Mohammed, who is a former member of the House of Representatives, said President Tinubu has demonstrated good leadership by picking General Musa from Kaduna State to replace former Jigawa state Governor, Alhaji Badaru Abubakar, who resigned as Minister of Defence on Monday on health ground.

While describing the President’s decision as “a perfect choice,” he described the choice of General Musa as a round peg in a round hole”, and expressed optimism that General Musa’s appointment would turn around the security situation in the country for the good.

He said, “On behalf of the entire All Progressives Congress (APC) family in the North West, I extend our profound appreciation to the President/Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for appointing General C.G. Musa as the new Minister of Defence.

“Without mincing words, Mr. President has made the right choice given General Musa’s pedigree as a fine, dedicated, dogged, patriotic, and gallant military officer, who, as the Chief of Defence Staff until October 24, 2025, gave a good account of himself.

“Time and time again, General Musa has proven to be one of the finest military officers that Nigeria has produced. From his days as a General Staff Officer 1, Training/Operations at HQ 81 Division to Commanding Officer, 73 Battalion; Assistant Director, Operational Requirements, Department of Army Policy and Plans; Commander, Sector 3, Operation Lafiya Dole, and Commander, Sector 3 Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Chad Region, General Musa has demonstrated uncommon courage as a soldiers’ soldier.

“During his period as the Chief of Defence Staff, he introduced innovative ways of dealing with the security situation in Nigeria, recording remarkable successes all through. He equally endeared himself and the entire Nigerian military to the citizens. No wonder, he has such tremendous goodwill among the populace.

“I am optimistic that General Musa would replicate his feats as CDS in his new position as the Minister of Defence,” he said.

While urging General Musa to maintain his military tempo, Hon. Datti wished him a successful tenure as Minister of Defence.

  • Osun 2026: Party elders will guide choice of APC candidate — National leadership

Osun 2026: Party elders will guide choice of APC candidate — National leadership

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday said it will defer to the Elders’ Council in Osun State in determining the outcome of the forthcoming governorship primary scheduled for Saturday, December 13, 2025.

The assurance was given by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, when leading gubernatorial aspirant Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) submitted his Nomination and Expression of Interest forms for the 2026 governorship election at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

Oyebamiji was accompanied by a large delegation of state and national leaders, officials, and key stakeholders, submitting his forms at exactly 5:00 p.m.

Argungu, represented by Deputy National Organising Secretary Nze Chidi Duru, said the party is determined to “get it right” in Osun by respecting the wisdom of the state’s Elders’ Council during the primary.

“Osun is important because it is in the South West and it is a state we want firmly in our fold before the 2027 general election. Also, the President has a special interest in the State; therefore, we must get it right this time. We have elders in the Osun APC, and if we heed them, we won’t lose the State and will get it right,” Argungu stated. He also urged Oyebamiji and his supporters to maintain peace as the primary approach.

Earlier, APC National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Bashir, who recently stepped down as an aspirant, emphasised the party’s determination to secure a decisive victory in Osun.

He urged members to remain united before and after the primary to ensure success for the APC, adding, “We must deliver massively for President Bola Tinubu in 2027. Osun is one of the key states we aim to win with a very large margin.”

After submitting his forms, Asiwaju Oyebamiji declared himself the aspirant to beat in the December 13 primary, highlighting his professional and public service record. He cited his 28-year career in banking, his tenure as Managing Director of the Osun State Investment Company Limited (OSICOL), his two terms as Commissioner for Finance in Osun State, and his recent role as Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) as evidence of his capacity to lead.

“I dare to tell you with modesty that I am an aspirant to beat to have resigned my appointment. I worked in the private enterprise, especially in the banking sector, for 28 years, and this is the sector where I was formed, which is a target-oriented sector.

“It is a sector that you just must be profitable, you must work it, and you must know your onion. I worked there, and I have my records, and I resigned from that opportunity to join the public sector. When I joined the public sector in 2012, I was made the managing director of a state investment company, and the records are there for any of us here to verify. We did very well, and I’m proud of myself.

“After that, I was the managing director when I was appointed the Commissioner for Finance during former Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s administration, and we exceeded. I am a Commissioner for Finance without a blemish, and just like you said, I was appointed the managing director of NIWA. My two years in NIWA were fantastic. It was a record that has never been matched since the creation of that authority.

He continued, “That gives me the courage that anywhere I take a step to go, with Almighty God, I always succeed, and in this one, we will. We have prayed to God, and we are still working hard, and we are going to deliver the goodies to your party,” Asiwaju Oyebamiji stated.

Dignitaries present during the submission included the Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Emma Eneukwu; National Vice Chairman (North Central), Muazu Bawa Rijau; National Publicity Secretary, Barr. Felix Morka, National Welfare Officer, Hon. Donatus Nwankpa, and Deputy National Secretary, Barr. Festus Fuanter, among others.

  • PDP, APC trade words over welfare, recruitment in Ondo Amotekun Corps

PDP, APC trade words over welfare, recruitment in Ondo Amotekun Corps

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo state has criticised Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa over his handling of the state’s Amotekun Corps, accusing him of ignoring persistent welfare complaints from operatives while publicly backing the leadership of the security outfit.

In a statement on Tuesday, the party’s director of media and public communications, Wándé Àjàyí, said the recent commissioning of the Amotekun Command headquarters and the announcement of fresh recruitment were being used to mask what he termed the “disturbing reality” confronting serving officers.

But in a swift response, the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed the PDP’s allegations as “misguided” and an attempt to politicise matters of state security.

The APC said Aiyedatiwa’s foremost responsibility is the protection of lives and property in Ondo State, adding that his support for the Amotekun leadership is driven by the need to maintain stability and enhance operational efficiency amid evolving security threats nationwide.

However, the PDP alleged that Amotekun personnel across the state have repeatedly raised concerns over unpaid salaries, lack of appointment letters, poor welfare, stalled promotions, and the absence of job security.

It noted that some operatives had petitioned the government over unpaid allowances and alleged arbitrary redeployments without receiving any meaningful response.

The statement further cited investigative reports that purportedly exposed irregularities in the agency’s payroll system, including claims that the refusal to issue appointment letters had created a compromised structure capable of accommodating ghost workers.

According to the PDP, petitions from officers in all three senatorial districts have been submitted to the government but remain unaddressed.

The opposition party further accused Aiyedatiwa of overlooking the grievances while offering what it described as “unwavering public backing” to the Amotekun Corps Commandant – a posture it said undermines morale and shields alleged administrative misconduct.

The PDP also berated the governor’s announcement of plans to recruit 500 new operatives, describing it as politically motivated and insensitive to the plight of current officers.

Expanding the corps, the party argued, without resolving existing welfare and structural issues, would deepen the crisis within the agency.

To restore confidence, the PDP urged the governor to clear all outstanding salaries and allowances owed to operatives, issue proper appointment letters, address all pending petitions, and ensure transparent promotion and posting procedures.

It also demanded a comprehensive audit of the Amotekun payroll before any recruitment exercise begins.

“Security must be based on integrity, fairness, and transparency. A government that neglects the welfare of security workers while defending those at the top cannot claim to be committed to public safety,” the PDP said in the copy of the statement.

The APC, in a statement released by his spokesman, Steve Otaloro, highlighted the recent commissioning of a modern Command and Control Centre, a state-of-the-art training auditorium, and the ongoing recruitment of the fifth batch of Amotekun operatives as “bold and proactive steps” aimed at strengthening the state’s security architecture.

“At a time when communities across Nigeria are grappling with rising security challenges, Ondo State cannot afford to slow down or play politics with the safety of its people,” it said.

The governing party insisted that the Aiyedatiwa administration has not ignored welfare issues, saying matters relating to salaries, documentation, and structural adjustments are already being addressed “systematically and transparently” without fanfare or political theatrics.

“What the PDP calls ‘shielding’ is merely the governor refusing to politicise internal administrative processes. Welfare reforms are ongoing, and the government remains committed to ensuring that every legitimate officer receives what is due in line with established procedures and available resources,” it said.

The APC argued that expanding the corps while addressing internal issues aligns with global security practices, adding that the PDP’s attempt to create a conflict between welfare and recruitment reflects a poor understanding of how security institutions operate.

“You do not weaken a security force because there are administrative issues. You strengthen it while resolving them,” the party stated.

The ruling party accused the PDP of attempting to destabilise the Amotekun Corps through politically motivated attacks and maintained that security should not be used as a partisan tool.

“The APC stands firmly with Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa as he continues to take decisive steps to secure the lives and property of the people. Security is a collective priority, not a political weapon,” the statement added.

2027: Oyo APC to hold stakeholders’ summit as part of reconciliation, election preparations

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has announced plans to hold a stakeholders’ summit this Friday in Ibadan.

The party said the meeting aims to fine-tune ongoing reconciliation efforts among its members and strengthen its position ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Facilitated by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the summit comes less than two months after a successful leadership summit in Ibadan that drew praise from stakeholders across the state and beyond.

In a statement, Oyo APC Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, expressed satisfaction with the current state of the party under the leadership of State Chairman, Alhaji Olayide Abas, noting that he has received broad support from stakeholders to build a more cohesive and formidable party ahead of the 2027 polls.

Sadare listed the expected participants at the Friday meeting, scheduled for 10 a.m. at the APC state secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, to include former deputy governors; former and serving members of the National Assembly; former and serving ministers; and all former and serving federal government appointees.

Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, on Monday, paid his first official visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of his planned defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Governor Kefas arrived at the Presidential Villa at about 1:30 p.m., and later proceeded to the President’s office around 2:00 p.m. in the company of the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, for a closed-door meeting.

  • APC chieftains deny endorsing aspirant for Ondo Reps ticket

APC chieftains deny endorsing aspirant for Ondo Reps ticket

In a move aimed at dousing rising tension within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, a prominent women’s leader and party chieftain, Mrs. Comfort Akinboyo, has debunked reports claiming she endorsed Dr. Olumuyiwa Daramola as her preferred aspirant for the Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency seat.

A recent report had suggested that Mrs. Akinboyo and other grassroots mobilisers had openly thrown their support behind Dr. Daramola, a US-based medical practitioner and philanthropist.

The report quoted her as describing him as “well-trained” and capable of delivering quality representation if elected. Another supporter, Mr. Kuye Olakunle of Igbotako Ward II, reportedly said: “DoD is one of us. We are with him. He is different from other politicians around us. He is very humble, approachable, and accessible.”

An octogenarian from Ode-Erinje, Mrs. Bosede Akinola, was also quoted as praising Daramola’s credentials, insisting the constituency needed someone who had “shown capacity and succeeded in his chosen profession.”

However, in a statement issued on Sunday, Mrs. Akinboyo distanced herself from the claims, insisting she had not endorsed any aspirant ahead of the 2026/2027 election cycle. Describing the report as “premature and misleading,” she maintained that her admiration for Dr. Daramola’s activism must not be mistaken for an official endorsement.

She emphasised the importance of adhering to directives of APC leadership at both state and national levels, noting that the party had yet to activate the processes that would culminate in campaign activities. With the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yet to approve the commencement of political campaigns, she said discussions about endorsements were “unnecessary and out of place.”

According to her, endorsements should only come after aspirants have purchased and submitted their expression of interest and nomination forms—an important step that signals readiness and seriousness.

Her clarification comes amid concerns from other aspirants in the constituency, many of whom reportedly reached out to her seeking clarification over the alleged endorsement.

In her words, “As a dedicated women’s leader and a respected figure within the APC, it has come to my attention that there are claims suggesting I have endorsed Dr. Olumuyiwa Daramola as my preferred candidate for the House of Representatives in the Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency.

“While I admire Dr. Daramola’s character and his commitment to grassroots activism, I have not officially endorsed him or any other candidate at this time. It is vital for the integrity of our party that we provide equal opportunity for all aspirants to showcase their abilities without predetermined biases.

“The directives of our party leadership remain paramount. With INEC yet to sanction the start of campaigns, it is too early to discuss endorsements. Such decisions are more appropriate after aspirants have obtained and submitted their expression of interest forms, which will help us assess their seriousness.

“While I hold Dr. Daramola in high regard, my recognition of his commendable qualities does not amount to an endorsement.”

Similarly, Mrs. Bosede Akinola, a chieftain of the APC in Okitipupa Local Government, also dissociated herself from reports suggesting she had endorsed Dr. Daramola.

In her own statement, she said, “While it is true that I know Dr. Daramola and did attest to his character as a good individual, I must emphasise that I have not formally endorsed him or any other aspirant at this time.

“It is vital for me as a leader to ensure that all aspirants are provided with a level playing field. Each candidate deserves the opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities without premature endorsements clouding the process.

“The leadership decisions of the APC, both at the state and federal levels, are supreme. It is too early to declare any endorsements, especially as INEC has yet to approve political campaigns.”

Mrs. Akinola added that her acknowledgement of Dr. Daramola’s good character had been misconstrued and should not be interpreted as an endorsement, noting that she had received numerous inquiries from other aspirants.

Both women urged party members to prioritise unity, fairness, and healthy competition as the political season draws closer.

  • Ondo APC leaders vow to mobilise massive support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid

Ondo APC leaders vow to mobilise massive support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid

Pioneer leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, under the banner of the Ondo APC Aborigines, have pledged to deploy the party’s numerical strength to secure the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

The commitment was made on Sunday at the official inauguration of the local government and ward coordinating committees for Tinubu 2027 in Ondo East and Ondo West Local Government Areas.

The Nation reports that discussions at the event focused on strengthening party cohesion, enhancing grassroots mobilisation, and preparing ahead of future elections.

Speaking at the inauguration, the convener of the group and former Nigerian Ambassador to Togo, Ambassador Sola Iji, described the APC as the dominant political force across all 18 local government areas of the state, maintained that this advantage would be harnessed to deliver overwhelming support for President Tinubu’s second-term bid.

Iji noted that despite ongoing economic challenges, the Tinubu administration had initiated key reforms aimed at stabilising the country.

He added that the APC structure in Ondo State was committed to communicating these achievements to voters across the grassroots.

According to him, the group had resolved to collaborate with other stakeholders in the party to ensure sweeping victory for President Tinubu and all APC candidates in the 2027 elections.

Iji urged ward and local government coordinators to work diligently with party leaders in their respective areas to secure victory at the polls, emphasising unity, discipline, and collective interest over personal ambitions.

“We are not in competition with the structures of the party or other support groups canvassing for the re-election of President Tinubu. We shall cooperate and collaborate with all stakeholders not only to win the state for the president but to maximise our returns at the polls.

“So, our numerical strength and network of canvassers should be an advantage in reaching out to voters across the length and breadth of the state,” he said.

He also urged continuous prayers for leaders at all levels and commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for delivering good governance and fostering peaceful coexistence in the state.

Iji equally appreciated the support of the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, saluting him for his various reforms key to advancing development for the nation.

Also speaking, a former chairman of Ondo East Local Government, Hon. Rafiu Akinkuolie reaffirmed the group’s commitment to aggressive grassroots mobilisation, sustained engagement with youths and women, and the strengthening of ward structures ahead of 2027.

Similarly, Hon. Olawale Akinkuotu, another former chairman of Ondo East LGA, commended the resilience of members of the Aborigines group.

He advised them to remain steadfast and work with other party stakeholders to secure a resounding victory for President Tinubu in 2027.

The Ejigbo-born politician admonished the governorship aspirants and their handlers to be wary of the narratives they would be pushing out to the public, urging the generality of the party members to remain calm and have faith in the party.

Osun 2026: Nine aspirants jostle for APC guber ticket

    • Oyebamiji may emerge as consensus candidate after Elders’ Caucus purported endorsement

Ahead of the 13th December, 2025 primary election of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), former National Secretary of the party, Senator Iyiola Omisore  and eight others are to jostle for the party’s ticket for the Osun State Governorship Election billed for August 8, 2026.

At the close of sales of the party’s nomination and expression of interest forms on Thursday night, eight male and one female aspirants had secured the forms.

They are former deputy governor in the state, Sen. Iyiola Omisore, development financier, Babatunde Hareter Oralusi, the Managing Director the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, former chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Bar. Oyedotun Babayemi, and immediate past deputy governor of the state,  Benedict Olugboyega Alabi.

Others are business magnate and insurance expert,  Dr Akinade Akanmu Ogunbiyi, legal icon, Adegoke Rasheed Okiki Adekunle (SAN), the only female aspirant and former lawmaker in Osun State House of Assembly, Dr. (Mrs.) Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and the vice-chairman of the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Intergovernmental Affairs, Sen. Babajide Omoworare.

According to the schedule of activities and timetable for the election released by the party’s National Organizing Secretary, Alhaji Sulaiman Muhammad Arugungu, all the aspirants are expected to submit their completed governorship nomination and expression of interest forms with all necessary accompanying documents by Monday December 1, 2025.

Screening of the aspirants is slated to be held in Abuja on the 3rd and 4th of December,  2025, while the party will publish the screening results by 5th of December, ahead of the 6th December screening appeal.

The party’s shadow election is slated to hold on  December 13, 2025.

The Nation, however, gathered that the party leadership and critical stakeholders in the state are to hold a crucial meeting today with a view to adopting a consensus candidate for the party.

But a chieftain of the party who spoke in confidence faulted the proposed meeting, arguing that the meeting was belated.

“What happened to the previous meetings? The aspirants were never informed of the outcome. The party leaders allowed aspirants to purchase forms, and now they are trying to push for consensus.

“If we must get the state back for our party, I will strongly advise that the Party should allow the aspirants to go into the primary election. Whoever wins will be supported by other aspirants.”

Meanwhile, the party has raked in N450 million from the sales of nomination and expression of interest forms to the nine aspirants.

Each of the eight male aspirants paid N50 million each for the nomination and expression of interest forms while the only female aspirant paid N10 million for the expression of interest form, in line with the party’s free nomination form policy for women and youth under 40 years.

Barely 15 days to the primary election in Osun State, the gubernatorial ambition of the ex-Managing Director, National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Mr Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), received a boost yesterday  as the party’s Elders Caucus purportedly endorsed his aspiration.

A source confirmed to The Nation that the APC Elders’ Caucus endorsed Oyebamiji as the preferred candidate of the party after the screening and mediation role.

A top source said “We suggest that the party should make Oyebamiji its consensus candidate after our findings among the aspirants. He has penetrated many of the aspirants and won their hearts, he has played his politics well and considering his capacity, he topped the ratings.”

Efforts to get the reaction of the Chairman of the Caucus, Engr. Sola Akinwumi was abortive as he refused to pick answer calls and respond to messages sent to his phone at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Caucus, Hon Gbenga Omolaoye, refused to comment on the development, saying, “I can’t give you the details and latest position of the Elders’ Caucus about the speculation, only the Chairman can.”

Also, a member of the caucus, Professor Rasak Abubakar, declined to comment on behalf of the APC Elders but stated that “I will personally be glad if the ticket of the party is given to Ouebamiji. He deserved the ticket.”
