Oyo APC urges patience over e-registration hitches, assures swift resolution

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has appealed to its members and supporters experiencing difficulties with the ongoing electronic registration exercise to remain patient, assuring that the technical challenges are being addressed by the appropriate authorities.

Reports from the state’s 33 local government areas indicate that a significant number of party faithful—both existing and prospective members—are yet to have their personal data captured due to system-related issues affecting the registration process.

The situation has triggered calls within the party for an extension of the registration deadline.

However, in a statement, the state Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, said the mandatory requirement of the National Identification Number (NIN) and Permanent Voter Card (PVC) for registration was designed to ensure the integrity of the party’s membership database.

According to him, the policy is aimed at building an accurate and reliable membership register to support strategic planning and align the party’s processes with global best practices.

He said, “We are not unaware of some glitches in the electronic registration exercise particularly as they concern the inability of many willing party faithful and supporters to have their personal data captured as well as lack of National Identification Number (NIN) by some individuals who are willing to register as APC members.

“The leadership of the APC is working round the clock to resolve some of these issues before the registration deadline this Saturday.

“We have also received requests for extension of the registration deadline from many quarters across the state and we have communicated this to the National Secretariat of our great Party while we are hoping to get a favorable response as soon as possible.

“Nonetheless, stakeholders are being charged to increase their efforts and ensure that nothing is left to chances. The E-regisration is a serious exercise and Oyo state chapter of the Party cannot afford to lag behind.

“As a matter of fact, old members and leaders who fail to register in the ongoing exercise would cease to be reckoned with in the scheme of things as we warm up for the congresses and party primaries in the build up to the next general elections.

“We are on top of the situation even as we encourage party faithful and supporters to reach out to the State Secretariat at Oke-Ado to report any challenges in their locality for prompt actions.”

Goronyo leads mobilisation drive, rallies APC stakeholders to boost e-registration in Sokoto

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State have resolved to step up mobilisation to ensure the success of the ongoing electronic registration of party members across the state.

The resolution was reached at a recent stakeholders’ meeting convened by the Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo.

Addressing party leaders and members, Goronyo described the e-registration exercise as central to strengthening the party’s structure at the grassroots.

He said possession of a valid APC membership card confers official membership and eligibility to participate in party activities, including voting and contesting for positions.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media, Abdullahi Mohammed, the Minister urged ward and local government leaders to take responsibility for driving the exercise by encouraging members to register.

The Minister emphasized that the initiative became imperative considering that the process was necessary for consolidating the party ahead of future political activities.

The meeting drew party elders and stakeholders, including Alhaji Hussaini Umar Gorau, Alhaji Adamu Joda, Chairman of the APC Elders Forum, Alhaji Faruku Ahmad Rimawa, Alhaji Ummaru Shehu Goronyo, Alhaji Aminu Faruku S. Rima, the APC Chairman in Goronyo Local Government, Alhaji Sa’idu Kumaji, and the Chairman of Goronyo Local Government Council, Engineer Zubairu Yari Goronyo, among others.

APC chairmen and secretaries from the eleven wards of the local government, councillors and other stakeholders were also in attendance.

Discussions identified challenges affecting the exercise, particularly the lack of National Identification Numbers (NIN) among some members while the stakeholders agreed on measures to address the gaps and improve participation.

According to Joda, in his remarks, the Minister provided financial support for logistics and pledged to facilitate NIN enrolment for affected members, adding that party elders would also contribute to the effort.

The stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to party unity and grassroots mobilisation in Goronyo Local Government Area.

Group steps up APC e-registration drive in Kwara

A group, the Asiwaju Grassroots Alliance Initiative (AGAIN), has intensified mobilisation efforts across Kwara State as the All Progressives Congress (APC) membership e-registration exercise enters its final days, urging residents to complete the process before the January 30 deadline.

AGAIN, a registered pro-Tinubu grassroots organisation, described the exercise as a critical step towards strengthening grassroots participation and consolidating support for progressive governance under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Speaking on the mobilisation drive, the founder of the group, Hussein Afolabi, said the initiative aligns with AGAIN’s commitment to deepening grassroots engagement.

“This mobilisation effort aligns with our commitment to taking the Renewed Hope Agenda directly to the people by strengthening party structures at the ward and polling unit levels.

“A strong, inclusive and active party membership is essential to sustaining the gains of the current administration and consolidating support for progressive leadership.”

To ensure that prospective members are not excluded due to technical challenges or registration difficulties, Afolabi said the group has opened dedicated support hotlines to assist registrants in the remaining days of the exercise.

He added that volunteers and coordinators across the Moro Local Government Area and other parts of the state have been deployed to guide applicants through the registration process and promptly resolve challenges.

Afolabi urged eligible Nigerians who believe in progress, unity, inclusivity, and sustainable development to remain politically active by registering and encouraging others to do the same, adding that “the future is progressive, and it starts with you.”

Zamfara APC disowns bandit kingpin Turji

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the purported membership registration slip of the notorious bandit kingpin, Mohammed Bello Turji, that portrayed him as member of the party in Zamfara State as fake.

The party declared that the notorious terrorist has no association or link with the party’s membership register and database.

The social media has been awash with the APC membership slip of the bandit leader presenting him as a registered member of the ruling party.

APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, in a statement in Abuja, said the digital parameters represented on the fake slip bear no connection to the party’s membership register.

Highlighting the fault lines on the slip, Morka said: “For example, the slip purports to be registered in a nonexistent “Ward 13” of Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State which only has 10 Wards,” adding that “all other information paraded on the fake slip are nonexistent and certainly not contained in our membership database.

“This vile fabrication is the handiwork of mischief makers out to hoodwink and confuse members of the public for their sinister objectives.”

Earlier, the Zamfara State chapter of the party had distanced itself from the purported membership registration of the notorious bandit kingpin.

The party insisted that the temporary membership slip on display was forged.

The state Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris Gusau, in a statement yesterday said the fake membership slip in circulation on social media was a calculated attempt by mischievous elements to smear the party’s image and discredit its ongoing electronic registration in the state.

Gusau noted that the membership card was full of detectable forgery. He cited the photograph of the hardened criminal on the slip as the same popular picture known to security agencies and Nigerians.

The party argued that no person could be duly registered without a NIN number, a critical item the party expressed doubt if Turji has, therefore making nonsense of the efforts of the mischief makers for failing to realise that APC programmes are mostly flawless.

According to Gusau, “the forgers forgot that before any person is enrolled by NIMC he must fill a form that will contain his full information before he is captured how then could NIMC capture him with military uniform and gun on his shoulders or are they blind or had forgotten that such features are not acceptable.

“Also, from our records of today’s (Tuesday) registration from Kware ward, we did not have the ID number with the initial ID code ‘26’ which is for  Niger state but forged for Zamfara membership card, talkless of the name.’’

Benue APC family unites through e-Registration

For the first time in three years, stakeholders of the All Progressive Congress (APC), under the administration of Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, and supporters of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, have put aside their differences and are working together in unity.

This new found harmony is attributed to the ongoing APC e-registration across the 23 local government areas in the state.

Previously, the party was divided into two factions, with the masses holding significant influence while the stakeholders struggled to assert their relevance.

Those who spoke with The Nation welcomed this development and urged the parties to sustain the peaceful atmosphere within the party and put aside their differences in the interest of the people.

Meanwhile, there has been a massive turnout of party members for the e-Registration at the local governments and wards.

Alia kicked off the exercise two weeks ago, and Akume has deployed over 500 personnel to fast-track the process, with both groups working in peace and harmony.

  • APC, where are the women?

    APC, where are the women?

    • By Ronke Bello

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is the ruling political party. It was founded as a result of strategic merger of several opposition parties on February 6, 2013. The party with its historic unseating of an incumbent president in 2015, retaining the presidency with the election of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in 2023, and for the fact of enjoying good leadership under the steady and experienced hands of politicians, technocrats and academics of good reputes, most recently the well respected and erudite Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the current national chairman, without doubt is far becoming one of Africa’s most formidable parties.

By design or default, the APC has been able to draw into its fold even states earlier held by opposition parties, a feat that has turned into an allegation from some quarters that the present government is deliberately turning our beloved nation into a one party system. This allegation seems not to steer any hornet nest as the response from the ruling APC fold has been dismissive. One may ask: apart from providing good governance and tangible developments, isn’t the major aim of any political party to win more followership? Or is the party apart from its core duties meant to headhunt and recruit members for the oppositions?

While our great party has attempted to focus on governance, steer the ship of party steady and bring more members on board, the issue of gender balance sticks out like a sore thumb. Most recently, Nigerians and indeed the global community where astounded when the party again presented the all-male Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilization to the leader of the party, President Bola Tinubu for inauguration. This is actually another blow where none of all the women in professional and grass root sectors of the APC could be found worthy for such committee.

While respectfully acknowledging the decisions and supremacy of the party, the Terms of Reference of this particular committee speaks volume: “Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilization”, so apart from the women of the party still short-changed in appointments, legislature duties, in states across the federation and the boring optics, the party believe that only men can strategize, resolve conflicts and mobilize? Very interesting!

For the ruling party, the post mortem reports  by several local and foreign observers of the last 2023 elections especially a paper by The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (2023) should be an attention-grabbing  note as it assert that “while  men have slightly more registered voters (around 52.5%) compared to women (around 47.5%) in Nigeria, studies and observations suggest women often show higher turnout and engagement in the actual act of voting, participating more actively in elections than men, despite their underrepresentation in political office. “

In all professions and activities, while I do not believe that women need to crawl and beg for participation we shouldn’t be equally ignored. Talent, skill, capacity, brain has no gender. On record, APC women in the last election went far and above all boundaries to get a win for the party. If the party now decides that women can’t serve in a good ratio in governance or party affairs, then we should certainly and respectfully shouldn’t serve in any singing , clapping or whining of  waists in future campaigns if that is the role the party envisages ahead for us.

APC as a great, bold, winning and enlightening party should by now be an enviable example of what an encompassing political party should be across Africa and the globe. In 2026 many nations across the world are led by women and even oppositions are led by women too.

Opposition parties even in Nigeria have found tangible roles for women as strategists, publicists, legal advisers, grass root mobilisers et al. Ours respectfully feel very comfortable with one gender and this on a lighter note reminds me of the 2023 elections when the APC was running helter-skelter looking for a woman that needed to urgently run into the TV stations to go head to head with a tough and well respected northern woman – activist.

While one must recognize and praise some women in leadership and in the party that are constantly pushing for women beginning from Senator Remi Tinubu, our most respected First Lady who has been a huge flag bearer; Nigerian women still need to constantly drum it up to her so she won’t give up until Nigeria inches close or achieves her National Gender Policy (NGP) (2006) 35% affirmative action for women in governance. For now, a lot still need to be done.

We must give kudos to Mary Idele Alile, the party women leader and Hajiya Zainab Abubakar Ibrahim, the Deputy Women Leader who are equally pulling their weights with key initiatives centring on “the twinning formula” that aims to position women as deputy governors/chairpersons and advocating for reserved seats for Nigerian women in politics.

Recently also, in a chance meeting with the amiable Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, our engagement reveals her undeniable passion and conviction on gender empowerment, inclusion, equality, women’s rights, protecting vulnerable groups, and advancing women’s leadership, as embedded in the Renewed Hope Agenda is not just infectious but one that resonates with global practices. She is a good ambassador!

In the words of Hillary Clinton: “There cannot be true democracy unless women’s voices are heard. There cannot be true democracy unless women are given the opportunity to take responsibility for their own lives. There cannot be true democracy unless all citizens are able to participate fully in the lives of their country.”

The former president of Argentina, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, in her own words further declares that “Our society needs women to be more numerous in decision-making positions and in entrepreneurial areas” and according to Melinda Gates“, in the developing world, it’s about time that women are on the agenda.”

As our great party marches forward with heads high towards the next general elections which we can’t take for granted and which should be won convincingly on the tracking and measurements of our policy formations and implementation especially as promised Nigerians, the party would fare better in a gender balancing act in which the oppositions on a keen preview are currently taking the lead. Our party, the All Progressive Party cannot attempt to keep clapping with one hand.

Plateau’s defection confirms APC as truly national party — Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Tuesday described Plateau State’s formal entry into the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a powerful affirmation that the ruling party remains a truly national platform open to all Nigerians committed to unity, peace and inclusive development.

Speaking at the grand reception of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, and supporters at the Jos Polo Field, Shettima said the political realignment underscored the APC’s identity as the destination for all citizens who believe in a united future for the country.

“Plateau is a reminder that what powers every nation is unity, not unity rooted in sameness, but unity anchored on shared purpose,” the Vice President said, adding that the state’s entry into the APC symbolised Nigeria’s shared destiny.

He recalled Plateau State’s historic role in Nigeria’s survival and cohesion, paying tribute to former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, and other eminent sons and daughters of the state whose sacrifices, he noted, are woven into the fabric of the nation’s survival.

According to a statement by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima said “in him, Plateau gave Nigeria a leader whose strength lay in reconciliation. Nations survive not by conquest but by healing”.

The Vice President conveyed assurances from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that Governor Mutfwang would enjoy full standing and recognition within the APC, stressing that good governance is an asset to any political movement committed to national progress.

He described Governor Mutfwang as a unifying leader whose administration has begun to reposition Plateau State from conflict and stagnation towards peace and transformation, citing initiatives in peacebuilding, renewable energy deployment for primary healthcare centres, agricultural expansion, transport infrastructure revitalisation, and people-focused budgets in education, healthcare and youth empowerment.

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, commended APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda for leading Plateau State into the APC, describing the development as significant for the party’s consolidation in the North Central zone.

He assured Governor Mutfwang of victory in 2027 and said President Tinubu has continued to demonstrate leadership that is inclusive and Christian-friendly.

Akpabio also prayed for the repose of the souls of victims of past crises in Plateau State, pledging that the National Assembly would appropriate funds for the return of displaced persons across the country.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, described the occasion as historic, noting that Plateau State was the last state in the North Central to join the APC.

He urged Governor Mutfwang to embrace reconciliation and provide inclusive leadership as the party leader in the state.

On his part, Prof. Yilwatda said the governor’s entry into the APC was massive, revealing that candidates from several other political parties had also joined the ruling party.

He expressed confidence that Plateau State would overwhelmingly support President Tinubu and Governor Mutfwang in 2027.

Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, described Governor Mutfwang as one of the best and brightest, assuring that Plateau State would witness renewed hope and prosperity under APC leadership.

In a goodwill message, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule said the APC was now complete in the North Central region, pledging massive regional support for President Tinubu in 2027.

Speaking on his decision to join the APC, Governor Mutfwang said Plateau State chose a path that would reposition it to fully support President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

He praised the President’s passion for national unity and progress, urging Nigerians to work together to steady the nation.

The governor paid special tribute to Vice President Shettima, acknowledging his pivotal role in encouraging his defection to the ruling party.

  • Osun 2026: What APC should consider before picking deputy guber candidate, by party leader

Osun 2026: What APC should consider before picking deputy guber candidate, by party leader

As the All Progressives Congress (APC) intensifies consultations on a running mate for its Osun governorship candidate, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), party chieftain Chief Abiodun Adesiyan has called for the position to be zoned to Osun Central Senatorial District, citing its voter strength and electoral competitiveness.

Adesiyan argued that since Oyebamiji hails from Osun West and is a Muslim, the party should consider a Christian running mate to achieve religious and demographic balance on the ticket.

In a statement, the APC leader said political calculations demand that the deputy governorship candidate possess strong grassroots appeal, street credibility, and broad-based mobilisation capacity.

“Across APC structures in Osun Central, there is increasing agreement that the ideal deputy governorship candidate should be a strong Christian to balance the ticket religiously; a politician with grassroots acceptance; someone with cross-party connections, particularly among former PDP blocs; a figure with influence among labour leaders, students, artisans, and informal sector workers; and a candidate whose local government has strong voter registration strength capable of delivering significant votes,” he said.

He noted that voter mobilisation is increasingly tied to figures on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) register, making the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise critical to the final decision.

According to him, Osun State had 1,955,657 registered voters as of June 2022, with Osun Central leading at 652,911 voters, ahead of Osun East with about 603,000 and Osun West with approximately 609,030.

Adesiyan identified Osogbo, Olorunda, Ifelodun, Boripe, and Odo-Otin as local governments in Osun Central with strong voting strength and potential for delivering electoral advantage.

Among possible running mates, he mentioned Hon. Adeoye Adelakun (Osogbo), Hon. Funmi Olasehinde (Ifedayo), and Barr. Kayode Oduoye (Ifelodun), noting Oduoye’s popularity across the Boripe/Ifelodun/Odo-Otin Federal Constituency and within the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

He also listed Hon. Yinka Ajayi (Boripe), Dr. Temitope Ilori (Ila), the daughter of former Osun State Governor Chief Bisi Akande, and Ms. Tola Odeyemi, the current Postmaster General of Nigeria. Other names suggested include Kayode Adereti and Hon. Nike Omoworare from Ile-Ife.

Adesiyan concluded that pairing Oyebamiji with a strong Christian candidate from Osun Central—capable of mobilising voters, energising grassroots structures, and bridging political and social divides—could be decisive in the APC’s bid to reclaim Osun State in 2026.
