‘APC must protect its members from PDP’s impending attacks’

The All Progressives Congress (APC) must brace up for attacks by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyalists ahead next month’s election, the party’s spokesman in Lagos Joe Igbokwe has said.

He said Nigerians should gird their loins for the danger ahead as PDP leaders get desperate.

“As things stand, APC needs to wake up to device ways to protect its members and teaming supporters. The potentially dangerous elements in PDP and their agents have nothing to give Nigeria now except agonies, tears and blood,” Igbokwe said in a statement.

According to him, during the flag off of APC presidential candidate Gen. Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign in Port Harcourt, one person was feared dead and many others seriously injured when armed youth shot at vehicles moving supporters of APC to the venue.

“In Lagos, PDP has been training thugs in the name of FERMA, importing arms, and arming them for the task ahead.

“In Niger Delta, Jonathan’s loyalists are importing huge arms also with stolen money for the showdown if President Jonathan fails to make it in the February 14 presidential elections. Across the country stories of arm build up and training of thugs are filtering into the ears,” Igbokwe said.

Igbokwe said PDP, which claimed to rule Nigeria for 60 years but is now gasping for breathe and fighting for survival, will not go down without a fight.

“More than 70 branded Hiace Buses were to be moved from Kaduna to Kano campaigns but no driver volunteered to drive any of the vehicles for fear of the power of the people.

“PDP was supposed to pick a powerful Northerner to head President Jonathan Campaign Organisation but no serious person had the courage to pick the job.

“Open the pages of newspapers you will see endorsements and endorsements for candidate GMB. The house called PDP is giving way gradually, it is going down gradually, it is collapsing systematically and it is sinking slowly,” Igbokwe said.

Igbokwe said having decimated and desecrated a promising country, PDP is ready to give Nigerians serpents instead of fishes, stones instead of bread and urine instead of water.

  • ‘Nigeria ‘ll be better under APC’

‘Nigeria ‘ll be better under APC’

All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Audu Ogbeh spoke with JAMES AZANIA on the general elections and the people’s quest for power shift.

What’s your position on Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi’s call for a peace agreement between President Goodluck Jonathan and General Muhammadu Buhari,to avert post-election violence?

The most realistic peace agreement they can sign is to determine between God and man that each of them will abide by the electoral rules that guide all elections; avoid cheating, avoid using instruments of state, namely: The State Security Service, Police, Army and Navy to rig the elections to favour the incumbent. Government has the capacity, Buhari doesn’t have them. Those are the things that provoke actions; there is hardly any need for any agreement to be signed, because it won’t be worth the piece of paper for which to sign, if we lack dignity and integrity to be genuine patriots and say to ourselves, let the people decide.

Some are of the opinion that there is no ideological difference between the APC and PDP. What could be responsible for this?

Worldwide today, tell me what the ideological difference between  political parties are? Where are they? You can’t see a clear difference between the British type and the American type.

The Americans belief literally, in the uncontrollable capitalists, the British has welfarist arrangement within their own capitalism. But in APC, we will also want to think of ourselves as social a welfarist that promote the wellbeing of the people, by solving some of the problems which has been instituted in the last 30 years.

These outrageous interests prevent individual Nigerians from realizing his or her ambition. Dealing with power supply, this major issue alone if sorted out, the interest rate alone in this country can be under any circumstances be close to one digit, this can sort out electricity and provide security. What are the big ideological differences today?

Even, China cannot claim to be exactly a communist state anymore, so which ideological differences are we talking about? What are they? The ultimate ideological philosophy of any party is the ultimate wellbeing of the people, freedom from fear, molestation, threats and assaults by extra-legal forces.

If the presidential pollsgoes otherwise, what will the APC do?

The party has made its position very clear, if we have reasons to believe that the elections are free and fair, we will congratulate whoever wins, whether we win or PDP wins or somebody else wins. But like I said, if we have reasons to believe otherwise or like what they did in Ekiti and Osun States where 38,000 policemen, SSS and soldiers were drafted as if we are in war front, masked, with instructions to make sure PDP wins, in such case how do you expect us to react? Go to court? We will take decisions that will become absolutely necessary, to tell the world and ourselves that we can’t keep surrendering to slavery, whatever the interpretation you  give it is up to you,

What is your expectation, if the APC eventually wins the presidential polls?

The expectation is to govern this country, to deal with Boko Haram. We are in a very tragic situation, Nigeria Army has been everywhere; in Tanzania, Congo, Liberia, Sudan etc, on peace mission and they performed well. What is it that has turned the Nigerian military into Boys Scout movement running away from a rag tag Boko Haram, nothing but corruption? The morale of the troops is dead and they know it and we know it. That is the issue number one.

The second issue is the cutting down of corruption, as no country has totally eliminated corruption, but you know the address and the precedence of our presidential candidates on corruption.

With the power of incumbency and resources at President Goodluck Jonathan’s disposal, do you think Buhari can defeat the President?

This is for Nigerians to take. They already have their CVs and they know who can salvage the country from these mess. It is only a stranger in Jerusalem who cannot recognize who Buhari is. We don’t need to advertise him. Buhari is not likely to encourage corruption or see corruption and do nothing about it. He is not likely to allow the Boko Haram to continue ravaging the country because he had certain military experience. The man became an Army General and a Head of State. I think that says he has gotten some distance in life, those two are more than enough to tell Nigerians that this is the man for the job.

Of course, there are attempts to say he is a fanatic. Again, I can say this man they referred to as a fanatic or religious extremist has been to Hajj only once in the last 14 years, if they need to know more about him they can, so we are not about re-selling  or re-packaging, those who know him, know him.

We know a number of people who are scared of his emergence because he will throw everybody in prison, which is not true, there is more work to do than setting up prison and throwing people inside. If you keep jailing and taking people to prisons alone, when will you have the time to deal with power supply, to deal with health, education, infrastructures and grow the economy and reduce the high interest rate and solve the problems of poverty in the country. There are so many things to do, however. If the government of General Buhari decides that this corruption business has to be curtailed to the barest minimum, his body language alone will do far more than the EFCC and the ICPC put together.

You said power has been the bane of our economic development. Do you think with an APC government can stem the tide?

So much money has gone down the drain in the power sector; $16billion, $20 billion and nobody knows the figures and privitization is expected to help the system better managed but the reverse is the case, there are 15 private  groups, now the groups seems to be more powerful for government to control. They refused to give meters out to Nigerians rather they use estimates, they became consortium licensed to defraud the society and cannot be controlled by the government, whereas we are supposed to be given meters and we pay what it reads, but they refuse, knowing fully well that we have no choice, is that not taking us captive? Because if I don’t pay you will come and cut off my electricity, is that not part of the corruption we are talking about? Who got these licenses? That is the first thing.

Number two, what happened to coal in this country? There are 13 coal deposits in this country, one of the biggest coal deposit is in Kogi State, one in my state, Benue, also in Enugu and every other places across the country. In the world they are still using coal to generate power, but we insist on oil and gas, which there are inherent problems there in the upstream, downstream. People blowing up pipe lines here and there has become a major challenges. How do we want to industrialize and match the rest of the world and how do we hope to participate in these so called global game? How does Nigeria want to go on without being a victim of globalization and beneficiary? If electricity is not available, how? This is what the APC will address.

Asari Dokubo was reported to have threatened that, if President Jonathan does not win the 2015 election, Nigeria may not know peace. What’s your reaction to this?

Is President Jonathan elected as a regional president or Nigeria’s President? You see, already, his people are seeing him as a regional President instead of seeing him as Nigeria’s President. Why will anyone issue such a threat? This is quite unfortunate. I have heard comments and people saying helicopters have been bought and warships are coming in and we also hear that containers of weapons are coming too. Suddenly we don’t hear anything about them. We do hope that is not their intention and we hope that President Jonathan will recognize that he owes more to Nigerians than to allow his ethnic warlords to talk that way. The same way we are warning anybody else from any other parts, whether is in the APC who will say if we don’t win they will bring Nigeria down and I think is less than responsible talk.

Our education sector is in shambles. How will the APC rescue the sector?

You know sometimes we see all kinds of very dramatic reforms in this country, one of them is Structural Adjustment Programme. This reform was condemned by Jeffery Sachs who was Economic Adviser to Koffi Anaan, the former UN Secretary General and Paul Robin Krugman, the American who won Nobel Prize about eight years ago, both of them condemned SAP, that it was imposed on Africans by the Western world as the worst assault on Africa since the slave trade.

Again, one of the reforms that destroyed our education in Nigeria was the disruption of teacher’s training colleges in Nigeria, and APC is going back to it. We have to train teacher’s that will teach our children from nursery to secondary to university level. Unless and until we restructure and bring back that very basic foundation of training of teachers, if not any other thing we are doing is just like applying cosmetics. There are some private schools ?that are charging N1 million  per annum in Abuja and Lagos, and only the rich can afford to send their children there. If that was the situation in the past some of us wouldn’t have gone to school. So whoever that introduced the reforms that NCE is enough, whoever he was did a terrible and irreparable damage to Nigerian educational system.

Already, the APC states met in Kano and this was one of the issues we discussed. We have to return to the teachers training colleges, we will find brilliant young Nigerians, send them to those?  Teachers training colleges, train them properly to teach and pay them well. APC will start to reform the education from where it can be reformed, meaning the very foundation- the nursery schools- after that you don’t need to panic over what you have.

  • APC attempted to hack into INEC’s data base- DSS

Accuses party of registering infants, babies

The Department of State Security (DSS) has maintained that the All Progressives Congress (APC) attempted to hack into the data base of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), with the intention of disrupting the electoral process.

The Spokesperson of the DSS, Ms. Marilyn Ogar, who briefed journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, also alleged that the party had a number of serving security personnel as its registered members, adding that the APC also did multiple and underage registration.

Ogar, who did not reveal the names of the affected security personnel, said the agents comprised personnel from the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps and Federal Road Safety Corps, among others.

The DSS had in November, broken into APC’s data office located at No. 10, Bola Ajibola Street, Ikeja, Lagos, where workers in the outfit, documents and computers were carted away by armed operatives.

Ogar further stated that after investigation, the DSS suspected that there was an elaborate and well articulated plan by the party to inflate its membership data through the creation of party membership forms and cards to match INEC’s voters register across the country.

The statement said: “One of the hard drives recovered from the building contained a video of 21 hacking tutorials.

“The content of the tutorial video focused on the following areas; how to become a hacker and steps to take to avoid detection in the process of hacking web servers; steps and procedures of system hacking, passwords cracking, decrypting, escalating access privileges, and creating backdoors to servers.

“It also explicitly explained how to evade security of databases such as Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), firewalls, and other measures put in place to deter hackers.
“The video also outlined ways to identify vulnerabilities in systems and how to surreptitiously drop a USB flash drive in a target establishment, which when plugged into any computer, transmits malicious codes enough to gain access into and compromise the entire system of the target organization.

“The video explains how to hack into the systems of media houses, with the aim of broadcasting fake stories or headlines.

“It was also discovered that the APC registered under-aged persons including several infants and babies as members of the party. We know that Article 9.1 of the APC Party Constitution expressly says: ‘membership of the party shall be open to any citizen of Nigeria who has attained the age of 18 years and accepts the aims and objectives of the party.

“The APC had multiple registration of individuals in multiples of 16, 12, and 10 and several foreigners were also registered as its members

“Also, the APC filled forms without passport photographs, and have books containing names of people with their phone numbers and several envelopes containing passport photographs of various individuals.”

  • Emerhor assures Urhobo monarchs of good representation

Emerhor assures Urhobo monarchs of good representation

•‘Jonathan has no interest in Urhobo’

THE Delta State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Chief O’tega Emerhor, has assured Urhobo monarchs of full representation, if he wins the February election.

The governorship candidate said President Goodluck Jonathan had no interest in Urhobo affairs.

He said arrangements were on for APC national leadership to meet with the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) to ensure a common front in the 2015 general elections.

Emerhor spoke yesterday at a meeting with Urhobo traditional rulers at the palace of the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, Oharii III.

The APC candidate explained that his party had accepted the Urhobo, which he said had been rejected by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said: “If the President had the interest of Urhobo at heart, he would have ensured that an Urhobo emerged as the governorship candidate of the PDP in the state.”

Emerhor said the APC was the only party that could withstand the PDP in the forthcoming elections.

The APC candidate advised the Urhobo to desist from supporting “mushroom” parties, as they did in time past.

He said: “I have been working for the interest of the Urhobo for a long time. I supported Chief Great Ogboru in previous elections, not because of him but because of the interest of the Urhobo. We failed then because we were in a small party. We cannot afford to repeat that mistake this time round.”

  • APC, PDP, LP, AP battle for Senate in Oyo

APC, PDP, LP, AP battle for Senate in Oyo

Unlike in 2011, when the senatorial race across the three districts in Oyo State was among three political parties-the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Accord Party (AP), four parties – All Progressives Congress (APC),  Labour Party (LP), PDP and AP – are fielding candidates for the parliamentary elections. BISI OLADELE examines the strengths and weaknesses of the flag bearers and their chances at the polls.

Four parties-the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP) and the Accord Party (AP)-are warming up for senatorial elections in Oyo State.

In Oyo North, Oyo Central and Oyo South districts, there is enthusiasm among the stakeholders. The only obstacle to a successful poll now is the lack of Permanent Voter’s Cards. The distributions of the cards was not successful in Oyo State.

The senatorial election will be very interesting because of the defections across platforms. Those who contested on the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in 2011 are now flag bearers in the AP and the PDP. Those who fell out with the PDP and the APC are now vying on the platform of the AP and LP.

There are three serving senators in the race. They are experienced politicians. But, they will work hard to retain their seats because new entrants are also working to dislodge them.

The three senators are Olufemi Lanlehin (Accord), Ayoola Agboola (PDP) and Ayoade Adeseun (PDP). Lanlehin and Adeseun defected from the APC to their new parties.

    Oyo Central

This struggle for the Senate is expected to be tough in this district. This is because the district cuts across three major towns of Ibadan, Oyo and Ogbomoso. Adeseun, who hails from Ogbomoso, currently occupies the seat.

But, the Speaker of the  Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Monsurat Sunmonu, has picked the APC ticket to contest the position. She will face Adeseun and Chief Oyebisi ilaka, the Ladilu of Oyo, at the poll. Ilaka is the Accord Party flag bearer. Sunmonu and Ilaka hail from Oyo town.

In the LP, where former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala calls the shots, Comrade Olu Abiala is the flag bearer.

    Sunmonu

Sunmonu is an astute lawmaker. A former employee of the British Immigration Service, she returned to Nigeria in 2010 to join politics. She is representing Oyo East/Oyo West Constituency in the House of Assembly.

Her tenure witnessed unprecedented peace in the House, judging by the vices that have assailed the parliament since 1999. This has shored up her popularity in the district and the entire state.

The APC and Accord zoned the senatorial slot to Oyo because it is the only town in the district that has not produced a senator since 1999.

Besides, the APC is waxing stronger in two local governments in Ibadan among the five that make up the district in the capital city. They are Lagelu and Akinyele.

With her grassroots style and gender appeal, Sunmonu stands a better chance in the race.

Yet, she faces a hurdle in Oyo, her home town, where Ilaka is also a major contender.

     Ilaka

A United Kingdom-trained tax consultant, Ilaka contested and lost to Adeseun in 2011. But, the fortune of Accord has risen in the last two years in Oyo, making him a strong contender once again.

The candidates fielded by Accord are mostly riding on the fame of Senator Rashidi Ladoja, who is well known in the state. With the possibility of getting reasonable votes in Oyo, Ilaka is also likely to enjoy Ladoja’s goodwill is some parts of Ibadan.

But, it is doubtful if the Oyo chief will garner enough votes to emerge as the winner.

    Adeseun

Adeseun was a member of the House of Representatives. In 1999, he was a member of the Alliance for Democracy. In 2003, he defected to the PDP. In 2011, he was a Chieftain of the ACN. Until recently, he was an APC leader in the district.

The senator is back in the race after losing the governorship ticket to Senator Teslim Folarin. He is popular across the district. He is an experienced politician. Adeseun has been reaching out to his constituents through constituency projects.

As an experienced politician, the senator is counting on his goodwill among constituents. The PDP is also depending on the federal might. Folarin’s strength in some parts of Ibadan is also an advantage.

Yet, Adeseun may find it tougher this time. The PDP’s popularity has declined in the state. The dwindling fortune has reflected in the way it was defeated in the 2011 general elections, in spite of power of incumbency. The crisis generated by its primaries this year has not been resolved.

In Ogbomoso, his home town, three people are vying for both governorship and senatorial seats on the platforms of different parties. While Alao-Akala is vying under the Labour Party, Hon. Fatai Buhari is the APC’s senatorial candidate for Oyo North. He is the third candidate from the town. Obviously, votes in the town will be divided across the three lines. Adeseun is not likely to pull any meaningful votes in Oyo and two other local governments in Ibadan. He will count on the PDP’s strength in Ona-Ara, Oluyole and perhaps, Egeda local governments to get votes. With the odds against him, it is believed that the senator faces a huge hurdle to retain his seat.

    Abiala

The LP candidate, Comrade Olu Abiala, will slug it out with the three. Abiala, a renowned labour unionist ,is in partisan politics for the first time. The election will be an uphill task for the former Secretary o the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT),  Oyo State chapter. He hails from Ibadan.

    Oyo South  Lanlehin

The senator joined Accord earlier this year. He is a well-known politician. He hopes to coast into victory with his power of incumbency and popularity. He may also enjoy some goodwill in Ibadan because of Ladoja.

But, Lanlehin, who rode to victory,on the crest of the ACN, may not find it smooth this time. The political space is more polarised today while the APC is working harder daily to win more voters. Besides, some APC members and other stakeholders believe that Lanlehin should have waited in the party to pick the governorship ticket after Governor Abiola Ajimobi leaves office. This may also work against him. His major huddle is the APC. Besides, there are some people who are not happy over his defection.

    Soji Akanbi

The APC candidate, Soji Akanbi, is an experienced politician. He was a governorship aspirant in 2011.  Since he picked the APAC ticket, Akanbi has been working to entrench himself within and outside the party across the senatorial district. A follower of the late Alhaji Lam Adesina, the former governor of the state,  Akanbi is close to key players in the Lam Adesina political family.

His party is an added advantage because it is popular in the district.

But, Akanbi must work very hard to defeat Lanlehin. He will need to warm himself into the hearts of voters outside the camp because they will ultimately decide who emerges the senator.

    Adedeji Otiti

The PDP candidate relies mostly on her party and gender appeal to win the election. The PDP candidate in the 2011 election, Kamorudeen Adedibu, was defeated by the incumbent.

Otiti is only relatively known in the political circle. Her political experience is doubtful. But, she may be a candidate of the future.

    Akinyo

Nurudeen Akinyo, who recently defected to the LP, is new in Oyo politics. He was a Special Adviser to Governor Abiola Ajimobi. Although he hails from Ibadan, Akinyo will have to cover several miles in popularity to win the election,

    Oyo North Agboola

The candidate of the PDP, Senator Ayoola Agboola, is the candidate to beat in this district. He is a grassroots politician and he is entrenched in the district. The power of incumbency may also count for him.

But, Agboola faces a huge hurdle in his Oke-Ogun Constituency because the LP candidate, Hon. Tajudeen Abisodun Kareem, who is representing Atibo/Saki East/West in the House of Representatives, is also a grassroots mobiliser. Both of them were with Alao-Akala, but Kareem followed his boss to LP.

Agboola faces a tough time in the three local governments in Ogbomoso where Alao-Akala delivered for him in 2011.

    Buhari

Hon. Fatai Buhari is a former member of the House of Representatives. He is the Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs. He relies on his popularity and that of his party, the APC, in Oke-Ogun and Ogbomoso to win the election. Besides, the party,  zoned the position to Ogbomoso.

But, Buhari will need to work extremely hard to win the three councils in Ogbomoso where Alao-Akala also hails from. He also needs to work very hard to garner enough votes in Oke-Ogun to win the election.

  • Injustice forced Amaechi, Kwankwaso others out of PDP – Mu’azu

Injustice forced Amaechi, Kwankwaso others out of PDP – Mu’azu

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Adamau Mu’azu, has identified injustice, inequity and unfairness as factors responsible for the defection of five state governors from the party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Governors Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara) and ex- Governor Murtala Nyako (Adamawa) had in November 2013 defected from the PDP to the APC.

Similarly, a number of prominent party chieftains, including serving senators and members of the House of Representatives also left the PDP for the APC, owing to factors earlier identified by the PDP chairman.

Mu’azu, who spoke in Abuja at the inauguration of the PDP’s Presidential Campaign Organisation, urged President Goodluck Jonathan to consider the governors’ defection as a challenge ahead of the general election.

Decrying what he described as politics of use and dump, which according to him, was pervasive in the ruling party, Mu’azu said the trend, if not stemmed, could spell catastrophic consequences for the democratic process.

He said: “I appeal to President Jonathan to consider it a challenge to discuss with your governors, senators, all elected officials of the PDP that members of the PDP said they should not be used and dumped.

“Adhere to equity, fairness and justice, substantial membership of the APC, APGA and others are members of our party.

“A lot of our party members have left because they have been used and dumped. It should not happen again.”

Also speaking at the event, Jonathan said the performance of his administration would be his selling point during the electioneering campaign and urged his campaign team to be civil in the use of language.

Reiterating his promise of free, fair and credible elections, the President said 2015 poll marked a critical point in the nation’s history. Apparently referring to his major challenger, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, he challenged his critics to tell Nigerians how many women served in their administration.

The President said: “I am not campaigning to you, I have no doubt you are already familiar with the achievements of this administration.

“We will see those who said they would form a parallel government. Do not join them in violence, every Nigerian is free to campaign in every part of Nigeria.”

Buhari support groups launched in Akwa Ibom

The Southsouth and the Akwa Ibom chapters of the Buhari’s Friends Organisation Network (BFON) have been launched in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

BFON’s national and state leadership used the occasion to solicit the support of the Akwa Ibom residents for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in next month’s election, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking yesterday in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, at the inauguration of BFON state chapter and the Southsouth zonal office, its Grand Patron and former military governor of Ogun and Rivers states, Group captain Sam Ewang (rtd) said the meeting was meant to promote the political aspiration of Gen. Buhari.

He said it would also ensure that the former Head of State got overwhelming votes for his victory.

Ewang, who contested the governorship primary on the platform of APC and lost to Umana Okon Umana, assured that Gen. Buhari would win convincingly in the Northeast, Northwest and Southwest.

The grand patron explained that it would be too sad, if he lost in Akwa Ibom State.

He said: “I want every hand to be on deck to promote him in Akwa Ibom State. Let me inform you that gen. Buhari is going to sweep the entire Northeast, Northwest and Southwest. It will be too sad if he does not win in Akwa Ibom State. That is why I am urging you to make sure that he wins in the state.”

The group’s National Coordinator, Saint Anthanasius Okon, reminded the people that Gen. Buhari’s project required people of like-minds and open spirit.

He urged the residents to unite for Gen. Buhari to win.

•500 PDP members defect to APC

Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has assured the people of his determination to industrialise the state, if re-elected.

The governor, who spoke at a campaign at Enyiogugu Central School/Ngor High Secondary School, Umuneke, said the project would create jobs for unemployed youths.

He said his administration, having focused on the health sector and education, the next phase would be how to eradicate poverty through industrialisation.

Okorocha assured Enyiogugu people of the readiness of his administration to transform Enyiogugu market into a modern market and Aboh Mbaise into a mega city, saying government would embark on the building of rural roads.

The Commander-General of the Okorocha Campaign Organisation, Ihukwumere Alaribe, assured the governor that APC would win the general elections.

One of the party’s stakeholders, Ben Akalefu, said he was in the party to contribute to the development of the state and ensure Okorocha’s victory.

The APC candidate for Aboh Mbaise State Constituency, Mr. Pascal Nwogu, Chief Matthew Nwogu, who is contesting for Aboh/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency and the senator representing Owerri zone,  Uche Onyeagocha, said they were confident that they would win with a wide margin so that the opposition would have no reason to go to court.

Five hundred members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Mr. Tony Mbakwem, who defected to the APC, were presented to the governor at the rally.

    ‘APC will win in Ekiti’

The Ekiti Central senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gbenga Olofin, has assured that the party’s people-oriented programme will ensure victory for all its candidates.

The candidate hinged his optimism on the discipline within APC as the most organised party grounded in grassroots appeal.

Blaming the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for all the woes that have beset Nigeria, the politician said APC had gained tremendous strength from its initial setbacks at its formative stage.

“APC candidates are reputable and responsible people with proven record of integrity, which will brighten the party’s chances in the polls.

“Above all, Ekiti voters are wiser now and would not want a repeat of suffering and poor governance going on in the state and in the national and state assemblies.”

Olofin said it was time Nigerians voted out the PDP and retraced their steps to a party that would guarantee their survival and economic prosperity.

  • Aspirant chided over statement

    Aspirant chided over statement

The national coordinator for the Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi Campaign Organisation, Oluwole Ajayi, has condemned the statement credited to one of the aspirants who contested for the Oyo South senatorial ticket.

Femi Olaore reportedly said the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary was inconclusive.

Olaore, Fola Akinosun, Abimbola Aboderin and Omotosho Kingsley have petitioned the National Assembly primaries appeal panel.

But Ajayi said: “I wonder why Olaore cannot accept the result. The result was free, fair and credible and the venue accommodated all the 3,000 delegates, along with the security operatives. Is it that the delegates were fake or were the candidates unacceptable to the delegates?

“And why was it that when they wanted to declare the result that they started shouting and protesting? Akanbi won with 83.5 per cent, others shared the remaining 16.5 per cent.

“The delegates’ support for Akanbi was overwhelming.

“We really appreciate the outpouring of love. I thank the people of his constituency. He will not disappoint them. APC members rely on God and he will continue to rely on God too.”
