    Edo PDP, APC quarrel

The Edo State chapters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday traded words over a television documentary sponsored by the PDP.

The APC accused the PDP of using “vulgar and abusive language, illogical arguments and fallacies” to deceive the people on the achievements of the state government.

The ruling party said it was an insult to Governor Adams Oshiomhole for the PDP to allege that the government had created an Office of the Governor’s Mother.

APC’s State Publicity Secretary Godwin Erhahon, in a statement in Benin, the state capital, called for a “psychiatric examination” on PDP’s State Chairman Dan Orbih.

Erhahon said the PDP used false photo footages of the previous administration to create disbelief about Oshiomhole administration’s transformation on basic infrastructure.

  • Why Sokoto youths want Wamakko as Senator

Why Sokoto youths want Wamakko as Senator

IR: As the saying goes, some leaders are born great while some have leadership thrusted on them. One of the famous academics in the world,John Quncy Adams once said,” if your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”. His contemporary, Warren Bennis also said,” Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality.” Without much ado, all these aptly apply to Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko for he is inarguably a great leader. He is an inspirer, a bulldozer and an invaluable achiver to the core.

He has indeed been a governor with a difference. It is a known and an incontestible fact that the peoples governor is also a trail -blazer. He is humble, pious, honest, transparent and an achiever to the core. Failed promises and failure are never in the dictionary of the Sarkin Yamman Sokoto. The facts speak for themselves and they are up for verification by any doubting Thomases.

He is also emulating great leaders like the late Sardauna of Sokoto and the Premier of the Northern region, Sir Ahmadu Bello and the Prime Minister of Nigeria, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa and the likes of the second republic President Shehu Shagari, among numerous others.

The fact that the tenure of Wamakko as a governor of the state is on the verge of expiring is a disturbing reality that is lurking around and it is staring on the eyes and ears of the people of the state. The people of the state are generally concerned about its fate after the eventual handing over of power in May, 2015. Some others are also pondering on what the governor will venture in afterwards.

This is why there are sustained efforts in all corners in the state and even beyond to pressure Wamakko to contest for the post of a Senator in 2015 for him to occupy the Sokoto Central Senatorial Zone seat under the platform of the political party to beat, the All Progressives Congress ( APC).

Contesting the posisition of a Senator will enable him to continue with the good things he has being doing for the people of the state, Nigeria in general and even beyond the shores of the nation. In fact, he was just appointed as a member of the 60-member prestigious Council of the Saudi-based Muslim World League. This is in recognition of his startling leadership traits, the world over.

The Sokoto central zone of the state will indeed be lucky and so honoured to have a person in the calibre of Wamakko to represent it at the Senate. The series of calls by various groups and individuals for the governor to contest the post are also on the increase. This is a vote of no confidence passed on the incumbent Senator representing the zone under the failed PDP, Senator Ahmed Muhammad Maccido, whom a lot of people and keen watchers of the state’s political terrains have described as an ingrate. He was indeed ungrateful to the peoples’  governor for staying put in the PDP at a time when Wamakko and his teeming supporters decamped to the APC due to the compelling circumstances and the general interest of the North.

As the Youths Earnestly Ask For Wamakko to contest, our hopes, wishes and aspirations are waxing stronger. This is because Wamakko has always insisted he will always do what the people want. This is just as God, in His Infinite mercies has bestowed a lot of known and latent potentials in the Sarkin Yamman Sokoto.

  • I ‘ll fight infrastructure battle in Bauchi, says APC candidate

I ‘ll fight infrastructure battle in Bauchi, says APC candidate

Bauchi State All Progressive  Congress (APC) governorship candidate   Mohammed Abubakar has promised to fight the infrastructure battle in the state, if elected as governor. The flag bearer said that his administration will complete the Kafin-Zaki dam project.

Mohammed, who expressed concern over the abandoned project, said athe  legal, political and social issues militating against the project implementation  will be resolved.

The former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice spoke with reporters in Bauchi, the state capital. He said: “I know that, beside geographical issues canvassed in the building of the dam, the project has been  over-politicised and the controversy surrounding the implementation blown out of proportion.”

The dam is located in Ganjuwa  Local  Government Area. The project started in the Second Republic when Alhaji Shehu Shagari was the |President. But, it was abandoned. Therefore,  it has become a major issue of campaign during elections.

Abubakar said: “I can assure you that the APC  government at state and national levels will sort that out by bringING all stakeholders to a round-table discussion and allow each to give convincing reasons. At the end,we will have an upper hand because millions of people will benefit from the project.

“We should genuinely allow the people to reason with us that the project is not meant for Bauchi State alone, but for the people of Yobe, Kano, Jigawa, Gombe, Plateau and Borno states. Apart from getting drinking water from the dam, there will be irrigation, fishing and relevant cottage industries will come up to process farm produce for export.”

He added: “This will not only provide food for millions of families, it will create jobs and generate wealth, especially for the youth and  this will certainly reduce crimes in the area to the barest minimum”.

Mohammed also reiterated that his campaign will be issue-based, adding that it will not be characterised by mudslinging.

The flag bearer said: “Nigerians want positive changes in their lives. Bauchi people deserve the good things of life such as potable water, functional health facilities and good roads that will link them to bigger towns to sale their farm produce.

‘The APC will provide additional resources that will enable us give quality education even in remote areas for the children of peasant farmers.”

On security, Mohammed observed that bad governance will always create ill-wind that will blow nobody any good. He added: “Our security challenges will be critically looked into and all aggrieved people will express their grievances that will be amicably settled.

“We will do everything humanly possible to stabilise the economy of the state as part of our top priorities. The welfare of the people, agriculture, health, and education will be on the front burner.”

  • Edo PDP, APC trade words over television documentary

Edo State Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress on Tuesday traded words over a television documentary sponsored by the PDP.

The APC accused the PDP of using “vulgar and abusive language, illogical arguments and fallacies,” to blindfold the people to the developmental strides of the state government.

The party said it was an insult to Governor Adams Oshiomhole for the PDP to allege that an “Office of the ‎Governor’s Mother” has been created by the state government.

The APC Publicity Secretary in the state, Godwin Erhahon‎, who spoke in a statement, released in Benin City, called for psychiatric examination of the state Chairman of the PDP, Chief Dan Orbih.

Erhahon said the PDP used false photo footages of the previous administration to create disbelief that the Governor Oshiomhole administration had transformed basic infrastructure in the state.

He urged the people of the state to ignore the “vicious” material, adding that it was an indication that the leadership of the opposition party had “lost sense of campaign.‎”

“That Mr. Orbih continues to use photo footages of the bad state in which PDP left Edo roads and schools in an attempt to blindfold the people to how well the APC government has transformed them shows that he has lost sense of campaign.

“How can a sane politician continue to show the pictures of the collapsed Central Hospital, Benin City which has been rebuilt and is visible to all as if the people of the state are blind‎.

“APC trusts that Edo communities continue to remember the pitiable state in which PDP left them and can therefore not be blindfolded by clowns who are trying to sell the political rotten meat called PDP to them,” he said.

But the PDP Publicity Secretary, Chris Nehikhare, said the documentary was aimed at exposing what it described as the “lies and deceit Oshiomhole told Nigerians as he celebrated his sixth anniversary.”

It said the programme was to reveal many of the reckless financial approvals and expenditure of Edo State government that can easily pass as stealing from the people.

The statement reads in part, “It has come to our attention that Comrade Erhahon in a press release alluded to a documentary that is showing on television in Edo State, where the PDP Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih, exposed the deceit, lies and vanity of the state governor as it concerned Federal Government projects in Edo State, as well as the waste, fraud and corruption that is the hallmark of Edo State government in its financial dealings and transactions.”

  • APC petitions NSA over ‘security threats’ in Ekiti

APC petitions NSA over ‘security threats’ in Ekiti

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has petitioned the National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd), on the security situation in the state.

In the petition, the party claimed that the alleged security threats reached the peak when suspected party thugs invaded the State High Court beating up judges and tearing court records in the chief judge’s chambers.

It was forwarded to President Goodluck Jonathan, Inspector General of Police Suleiman Abba, director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS), state director of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the commissioner of Police.

Signed by the state APC Chairman, Olajide Awe, the petition alleged that some police officers, who worked with Fayose during his first stint in power, and were indicted by the report of a Presidential Security Investigation Panel that investigated killings in the state during the period, have returned.

Awe said the return of the indicted police officers had constituted a security threat in the state which, according to him, had worsened since Fayose’s swearing-in on October 16.

The APC chairman alleged that Fayose made a special request for the redeployment of the policemen who formed the nucleus of a “killer squad” in Ekiti State between 2003 and 2006 as confirmed by the Presidential Security Panel Report on Political Killings in Ekiti State.

Awe called for the redeployment of the policemen from Ekiti State, if they must remain in the Force. He urged the police to stop supporting illegalities “as seen in their support for the seven Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers while same was denied the 19 All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers”.

The APC chairman said since the policemen’s arrival in the state, the activities of unknown men visiting the homes of APC leaders at night, particularly lawmakers, had increased.

He urged the authorities to provide equal treatment for all citizens, irrespective of their political affiliations.

The petition reads: “We are worried by the antecedents of these police officers when they served Governor Fayose between 2003 and 2006. Our fear is not without basis.

“A cursory look at the Report of the Presidential Security Panel Investigation of Killings in Ekiti constituted by President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2005 succinctly leads us to the present fear, as state-sponsored terrorism rears its head again with particular reference to the same officers, who were indicted in that report and who have been recalled by Governor Fayose to his service in Ekiti State.

“Fayose’s former Chief Security Officer Timothy Gbenga Joseph has been recalled to the service of the governor and now serves as his Aide De Camp (ADC).”

The party said it was worrisome that after this police officer was transferred out of Ekiti State as recommended, he never faced any criminal prosecution but a “befitting” redeployment to Ekiti State through the governor’s special request to continue the reign of terror in the state.

Awe also listed two mobile policemen- Usman Shaba and Moses Usman- as former members of Fayose’s special squad, who are now back in his service.

“ Shaba was former security aide to Fayose’s wife, and he is currently attached to TK Aluko, Fayose’s close associate, who does not hold any cabinet position to deserve protection and who was also indicted in the presidential security panel report.

“Usman was Dayo Okondo’s erstwhile body guard. Usman was also indicted by the security report. According to the report, he was identified as the officer who shot Olugbenga Jaiyeola in the leg at Ikere-Ekiti on March 15, 2004, leading to the amputation of the leg.

    Lagos Apc advises Igbo

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has advised Ndigbo in Lagos to be cautious, tactful and honest in dealing with their host communities in the interest of peace and harmony.

A statement by its state Publicity Secretary, Joe Igbokwe in Nnewi, Anambra State, said it is reacting to the claims by Ndigbo Cultural Society of Nigeria (NCSN), led by Chief Udo Udeogaranya, that Ndigbo in Lagos are being marginalised.

The statement said: “Contrary to the claims of NCSN, Ndigbo are getting their fair share in Lagos State as Igbo can be found everywhere in Lagos

“Ndigbo controls commerce in Lagos from Ladipo market to Tejuosho, from Oshodi to Alaba International, from the Trade Fair complex to Idumota to Balogun just to mention a few of them.

“Lagos APC is appealing to Ndigbo in Lagos to work with their host communities in Lagos for peaceful co-existence and harmonious relationship. “

Our property in Lagos were not said to be abandoned after the civil war. They were returned to us by the Yoruba after the war.

“Yoruba has been fair to Ndigbo and they need to reciprocate by seeking dialogue anytime there is problem, instead of war in the print and electronic media.”

Why I left Accord for APC, by Aboderin

The Senior Special Assistant to Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi on Social Mobilisation, Deji Aboderin, has revealed why he left Accord Party to join the Ajimobi’s administration.

Aboderin, who is a member of the famous Aboderin family in Ibadan, said Ajimobi’s achievement was the major reason he joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said: “It is vital to be fair to this government and the people of Oyo State who deserve the best. Governor Ajimobi has done fantastic work in this state. For the first time in the history of this state, we have a governor whose performance cuts across the state. His projects are not concentrated in a particular place.

“I have personal reasons for taking my decision. Apart from that, I just felt that as a citizen of the state, I have a duty to contribute to its development. It doesn’t matter who I work for, it’s all about serving our people to the best of my ability.

“I have been around for some time and I know what this state used to be before Ajimobi came on board. To be honest, Ajimobi deserves a second term so that he can consolidate on his achievements.

“Violence and crime have sent the best of our people away from politics but Ajimobi has provided a platform for everyone to be involved and contribute to the development of the state.”

  • APC petitions NSA over security threats in Ekiti

Due to what it called “a sudden jump in security threats shortly after Governor Ayo Fayose was declared winner of the June 21 governorship poll,” the state chapter of theAll Progressives Congress (APC) has petitioned the National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd).

The party claimed in the petition made available to The Nation on Monday that the alleged security threats reached the peak when suspected party thugs invaded the state High Court beating up judges and tearing court records in the Chief Judge’s chambers.

The petition was also forwarded to President Goodluck Jonathan, Inspector General of Police Suleiman Abba, Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Ekiti State Director of DSS and Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State.

According to the petition signed by Ekiti State APC Chairman, Chief Olajide Awe, some police officers who worked with Fayose during his first stint in power and who were indicted by the report of a Presidential Security Investigation Panel that investigated killings in the state during the period have now returned.

Awe expressed outrage that the return of the indicted police officers has constituted a serious threat to security in the state which, according to him, had worsened since Fayose’s inauguration on October 16.

The APC chairman alleged in the petition that Fayose made a special request for redeployment of the said policemen that formed the nucleus of a “killer squad” in Ekiti State between 2003 and 2006 as confirmed by the Presidential Security Panel Report on Political Killings in Ekiti State.

Awe called for the immediate redeployment of the policemen from Ekiti State if they must remain in the Force at all, urging the police to stop supporting illegalities “as seen in their support for the seven Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers while same were denied the 19 All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers.

The party boss regretted that since the arrival of the policemen in the state, the activities of unknown men visiting the homes of the APC leaders at night, particularly the APC lawmakers, had increased.

He also urged the authorities to provide equal treatment for all citizens irrespective of their political affiliations.
