Oyo APC governorship hopeful tours Ogbomoso zone

An All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo, Rtr. Colonel Gbenga Adegbola has embarked on strategic political tour to Ogbomoso zone of the state.

The tour was to engage traditional rulers and party stakeholders in a bid to strengthen grassroots support for his aspiration.

Highlight of the tour was a courtesy visit to the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, and a closed-door meeting with former Senator Ayoade Adeseun, who declared that the time has come for political power to shift from Ibadan to other long-marginalized zones.

Speaking during Adegbola’s visit to his residence, Senator Adeseun, who represented Oyo Central in the Senate between 2011 and 2015, decried what he described as Governor Seyi Makinde’s lopsided development agenda.

He criticised the concentration of state resources in Ibadan at the expense of other regions such as Oke-Ogun, Ibarapa, and Ogbomoso.

According to him: “It is wrong to focus on 11 local governments and neglect 22 others. Let’s streamline our efforts to support one candidate in our party. And we should support whoever emerges as candidate to make our party victorious in the next governorship election.”

He also challenged the popular narrative that Ibadan holds 52% of the state’s voting population.

“That is a fallacy. Ibadan cannot have more than 30% of Oyo State’s voting strength. People from Ogbomoso, Oke-Ogun, and other regions reside in Ibadan. Look at Ekiti, Ondo, and Osun—none has had a governor from the capital city. It’s time Oyo State followed suit,” he asserted.

While expressing admiration for Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, Adeseun maintained that the next Governor should emerge from outside Ibadan to ensure balanced development across the state.

Adegbola, who recently joined the APC from his ward in Saki, said the aspiration is rooted in a desire to serve all regions of the state.

He reiterated the importance of security, equity, and rural development in his agenda.

He said: “Since joining APC, I’ve toured Oke-Ogun, Oyo, Ibarapa, and now Ogbomoso. I believe in a united Oyo State. In the military, we lived communally. I deeply respect Ogbomoso and its people — everyone from this land I served with was trustworthy. That makes this zone very special to me.”

He further stressed the need for traditional institutions to be involved in policymaking and security coordination, criticizing the current administration’s disregard for royal fathers.

During his visit, Adegbola met with several key traditional rulers including:
The Alajaawa of Ajaawa, Oba Thompson Adeyeye Oyetunji (Olumole II); the Olopete of Opete, Oba Samuel Bamigboye; the Onipetu of Ijeru, Oba Sunday Oladapo Oyediran; the Olu of Obada, Oja-Oba, Oba Samuel Oyekunle

Oba Ghandi Olaoye praised Adegbola’s foresight and early declaration.

He said “Oyo is a complex state. To govern it, one needs strategic planning and broad consultation. I am glad you’re not a last-minute aspirant. Oke-Ogun has long been excluded. Let’s see what the future holds,” the monarch said.

Adegbola was accompanied by party loyalists from Saki, Oyo, Ogbomoso, Ajaawa, Opete, and other communities across the Oyo North Senatorial District.

Adeseun and the Soun emphasised the need for political unity within the APC, urging the people of Oke-Ogun and other zones to rally behind a single, viable candidate to challenge the Ibadan-dominant status quo.

With political alignments already taking shape, Adegbola’s Ogbomoso tour and the growing call for power rotation underscore the intensifying build-up to what promises to be a fiercely contested 2027 governorship race in Oyo State

He warned party members to refrain from media comments rooted in falsehood and resentment, aimed at causing unrest in the state for selfish gain.

The party further maintained: “It is important to note that Governor Namadi and the serving Minister of Defence remain in good accord and friendship, and are united in their efforts to promote Jigawa State towards excellence.”

“All voices,” the statement urged, “should contribute to creating an atmosphere of freedom, progress, and development in Jigawa State, to ensure the dividends of democracy are fully realised.”

Dikuma concluded that the APC and the government of Malam Umar Namadi will respond swiftly and decisively to any attempt to ridicule, discredit, or blackmail the administration.

“The APC will henceforth take appropriate measures—including legal action—against any unpatriotic charlatans seeking popularity at the expense of the party’s integrity,” the statement read.

APC chieftain to aggrieved  members: sheathe your swords,

Chairmanship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and incumbent Chairman of Epe Local Government Area, Princess Surah Animashaun, has appealed to aggrieved members who have expressed divergent views and opinions on the just concluded primary to sheathe their swords and unite to ensure the party’s victory in the forthcoming local government elections in Lagos State.

Princess Animashaun made the appeal during democracy day celebrations held in Epe, saying her entering into the race for a second term was to give youths and women of the council a renewed sense of hope and help create opportunity for collective prosperity of the people of the local government.

Princess Animashaun who spoke with journalists in Epe, said under her watch, youths restiveness and other related crimes in the council will be a thing of the past as she will work assiduously to restore hope in the people and help them to achieve a more meaningful life.

She promised to run a government of inclusiveness that would involve the political, religious and traditional leaders, market women, men,  artisans and the people in taking major decisions of the council.

“I know my people, I know the problem of the people and I know how to handle it, I am a grassroots person and I know with the support of the leaders the right things will be done.”

“Before any decision is taken, any project is executed, I will call everybody, bring it on board and discuss it with them, then take it back to my executive for execution, so that the pulse of the people will be properly felt and they are all involved.” Princess Animashaun assured.

“Epe LG is a cosmopolitan community, with people from all across Nigeria and the major problem is youth restiveness, most of our youths are not informed, they don’t have the opportunity and this is what I plan to give them, because I am one of them and I live among them. So, my plan is to give them the opportunity they don’t have, to expose them.” Princess Animashaun said.

She further promised to key into the empowerment and skills acquisition programme of the present administration in the council, build on it and ensure it is more inclusive and benefits more people.

While talking about the crisis that greeted the party primary to elect flag bearers for the party in the council election, Animashaun denied any knowledge of crisis resulting from the primary, arguing that what happened in some places was normal in politics, as aggrieved people will always want to look for opportunities to vent their grievances.

“I was there, but there was no problem, the primary was held, it is normal for people to be aggrieved, but there was no where a candidate was imposed or shortchanged. There are two ways in our party constitution, it states that it is either direct or indirect primary, what happened on that day was direct primary, that is by ballot vote and all aspirants are there and the delegates voted for their choice of candidates, and it was announced before the people and abide by it,” Princess Animashaun said.

The Osun State Government on Friday demanded for apology from All Progressives Congress (APC) over the local government control crisis which led to closure of council secretariat since February 2025 after Appeal Court dismissed their case.

Subsequently, APC re-enlisted the case of APP at the Appeal Court, but was dismissed on Friday.

Reacting to the development, the Osun State Government through the Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi in a press conference said the Appeal Court verdict reaffirmed the council poll held on February 22nd 2025 which was won by PDP.

“The dismissal of APC’s suit shows that the sacking of the Yes/No chairmen and councilors still subsists and binding on all those involved.

“To God be the glory that the political brigandage of APC has been legally destroyed. The political crisis leading to loss of many lives and properties in the state is unwarranted.

“We therefore, call on Osun APC to apologize to the good people of Osun state for the unwarranted and unnecessary chaos which they inflicted on the people of Osun state for the period it lasted.”

APC chieftain urges Tinubu to deploy drones, biometric tech to secure Nigeria’s borders

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ambassador Abayomi Nurain Mumuni, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to adopt drones, biometric systems, and other modern technologies to effectively monitor and secure Nigeria’s porous borders.

In an open letter to the President, made public on Monday and signed by his media aide, Rasheed Abubakar, Mumuni emphasised that advanced surveillance tools are critical to addressing the country’s persistent security challenges.

He noted that Nigeria has been grappling with terrorism, kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery, and illegal migration, issues he attributed in large part to poorly monitored borders.

“The porosity of our borders continues to enable illegal activities that worsen insecurity across the country,” Mumuni stated. “Investing in modern security technologies will significantly help in tracking movements, curbing cross-border crimes, and safeguarding our territorial integrity.”

He urged the Tinubu administration to prioritize border security as a national emergency, noting that advanced surveillance would serve as a deterrent and a strategic response to criminal elements exploiting Nigeria’s entry points.

“The persistent insecurity in Nigeria, characterized by terrorism, banditry, and illegal migration, is reaching alarming levels. Our nation’s borders, being the first line of defense against these threats, deserve immediate attention. This briefing aims to underline the critical importance of enhancing border security, moving beyond reliance on misguided advisers who lack expertise in counter-terrorism and security management.

“In recent years, Nigeria has seen a surge in violent activities from extremist groups and criminal syndicates. This shift has directly influenced the stability of our nation and the safety of our citizens. The ongoing clashes between armed groups and security forces, coupled with a rise in inter-communal violence, have exacerbated the situation.

“Nigeria’s borders are not mere lines on a map; they are crucial veins that dictate the flow of people, goods, and potential threats. A porous border allows insurgents and criminal elements to infiltrate and operate unchecked. Our geographical proximity to countries struggling with similar issues further complicates the security situation, as cross-border criminal activities thrive in these circumstances.

“Ensuring robust border security will mitigate the risk of terrorists and militia moving in and out of Nigerian territory. By enhancing surveillance, employing technological advancements, and increasing the presence of security forces along critical borders, we can form a solid deterrent.

“Illicit trade routes facilitate arms smuggling, drug trafficking, and the movement of stolen goods. Strengthening border security will help curb these illegal activities which often fund terrorism and organized crime.

“Millions of Nigerians suffer from the consequences of insecurity. Enhanced border measures protect not only the citizens but also safeguard the military and law enforcement personnel who risk their lives daily.

“Secure borders can lead to improved trade relations. With a focused effort on safeguarding our borders, legitimate businesses can flourish, ensuring economic stability.

“Strengthened borders can instill a sense of safety in communities that have been affected by insecurity. This can lead to greater cooperation between citizens and law enforcement agencies.

“Conduct a comprehensive audit of existing border security measures and the allocation of resources. Identify critical gaps that require urgent attention.

“Invest in modern surveillance technologies, including drones and biometric systems, to monitor border activities. These tools can provide invaluable data on movement patterns and potential threats. Reinforce security personnel presence along border areas, combining military and police efforts through joint operations. Ensure regular training and equipping of personnel.

“Foster partnerships with local communities along border regions. Encouraging local populations to report suspicious activities can create an additional layer of security. Engage in dialogue with neighboring countries to establish joint border patrols and intelligence sharing, as regional collaboration is essential in combating transnational threats.

“Establish a task force that regularly reviews our border security strategies, adapting them based on the evolving security landscape and emerging threats. The time for decisive action is now. Strengthening Nigeria’s borders is not merely a security measure, it is a national priority that demands immediate attention.

“The threats we face will not diminish over time; instead, they will evolve and grow if we do not respond with the urgency they warrant. Normalizing security through effective border management can pave the way for peace, stability, and the prosperity of our beloved Nigeria. Let us move past ineffective advisers and take knowledgeable, strategic steps toward securing our nation’s future.”
