APC is set to take over FCT, says Ganduje

….as AMAC chair, councilors, others join the party

In what appears to be a sweeping political takeover, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is positioning itself to dominate the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This was evident on Thursday during the “Abuja Unity Rally” held at the Old Parade Ground, Abuja, where the ruling party formally welcomed the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, along with his councilors and thousands of supporters from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) across all six area councils.

The defectors were received by members of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) led by Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, as well as serving and former ministers, ex-Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello, and other prominent party leaders from the FCT and North Central region.

Addressing a massive crowd of supporters, APC National Chairman Ganduje declared that the FCT is too strategic to be left under the control of opposition parties.

He claimed that over 60 percent of FCT residents have now aligned with the ruling party.

“With this new political realignment,” Ganduje said, “the APC is on track to produce the FCT’s only Senator, its two House of Representatives members, and all area council chairmen.”

“Ladies and gentlemen, as part of the “Renewed Hope Agenda”, today we have started seeing that FCT will be converted to APC. Today we have a great political giant, we have the chairman of AMAC which is the most popular local government in the Federal Capital Territory.

“The chairman with all his elected councilors, with all his appointed councilors, with all the politicians from PDP, they have decided to come to our great party, the APC. He has come with his thousands of supporters.

“Also, we have decampees from Bwari Area Council. We have decampees from Kuje Area Council, we have decampees from Abaji Area Council, we have decampees from Kwali Area Council, we have decampees from Gwagwala Area Councils.

“What remains now? Almost all the politicians, all the people, and indeed more than 60 percent of the Federal Capital Territory is now APC,” Ganduje declared.

Elated Minister of Special Duties, Hon. Zaphania Jisalo, who is the olitical leader of the territory commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for living up to his electioneering promises of carrying along Abuja indegenes in his administration.

He admitted that he is a living testimony of the President’s commitment towards the empowerment of Abuja indigene since he is an integral member of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

The Minister of State FCT, Hajia Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure urged the electorates to sustain their support for the APC led administration which is living no stone unturned in uplifting their well being.

Speaking on behalf of the former APC Governors, the immediate past governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello declared no vacancy in the Aso Rock presidential villa comes 2027, adding that” President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will overwhelming be re-elected to continue with the good work he is doing for the country.”

Bello called on all members of the party who have one issue or the other to come together and unite to make the broom platform virile for any electoral contest, stressing that APC will soon take over all the area councils in the FCT.

“All the Area Councils will be APC, it is just a little time that will take. Let me commend our national chairman, let me commend the state chairman of FCT, Alhaji Usman for all the wonderful job he’s being doing.

“When I came into this arena I was shocked to see the mammoth crowd that turned out within this shortest possible time.

“Let me tell you that this mandate that Mr President is carrying, is the mandate of the people and the people of this country have spoken and I want to assure you that come 2027, there is no vacancy in Aso Rock. I will use this opportunity once again, to appreciate all founding fathers of our party, Mr President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu played a significant and very pivotal role in ensuring that we have a party we are all trouping to join today.

“Our former president as the first president under the platform of the APC, former President Muhammadu Buhari. He has said it time without number that he remains a father in APC and he is a member of APC.

“Let nobody mistake it that Mr President and former President have any issue. In fact, they continue to confer in moving this country forward. So we have APC intact, I call on all other members of the party who have one issue or the other, you can’t build a house and run away from it. I urge everybody, let’s come together and unite. Other political parties are just going to escorting us to the villa come 2027.

“Come back, when you are inside APC, and you are making your demands you are talking but if you leave APC and you are outside APC and you are making demands, you are simply making noise and those of us that are inside APC we will tell you to keep quiet. Therefore, APC is the owner of Nigeria today and tomorrow,” he said.

APC FCT Chairman, Hon. Abdulmalik Usman assured that the party under his leadership will redouble its efforts towards ensuring that the ruling party takes over the nation’s capital ahead of 2027 general election.

The opposition Labour Party (LP) has dominated the political structure of the territory since 2023 general elections.

A socio-political, non-governmental organisation (NGO), Mission 90 Million Congress (M90M), has mourned All Progressives Congress (APC) National Director of Administration, Dr. Abdulrauf Adeniji, who was killed by kidnappers despite paying N50 million ransom for his release.

A statement signed by the group’s President, Comrade Sunday Adebisi, described Adeniji as a respected administrator and a grassroots politician from Ife Central, Osun State.

“Adeniji was a respected administrator and a grassroots politician. He was a man of integrity, leadership and service,” the statement said.

Cross River APC endorses Tinubu, Otu for second term

  • 2027 opposition coalition driven by self-interest, not national unity — APC chieftain

2027 opposition coalition driven by self-interest, not national unity — APC chieftain

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and National Coordinator of the Disciples of Jagaban (DOJ) supporters group, Abdulhakeem Adegoke Alawuje, has dismissed the emerging coalition of opposition political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing it as self-serving and not in the interest of national unity.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Alawuje urged politicians involved in the coalition to rise above personal grievances and political ambitions, and instead prioritize patriotism, unity, and harmony for the good of the country.

“This is not about personal disappointment,” the statement read, “but about the bigger picture—about what Nigeria is becoming in the face of deepening political divisions, tribal sentiments, and religious bias.”

He noted that many Nigerians are growing increasingly disillusioned with the political atmosphere, especially the trend of coalition politics that appears to marginalize certain regional leaders.

Alawuje called on political actors to focus on fostering unity rather than widening divisions.

“It is no secret that coalition arrangements today appear to be designed more for the satisfaction of political elite than for the unity of the nation. This wasn’t always the case. Even under past administrations where there were imbalances, the divide was not as glaring or intentional as it appears now.

“Sadly, our people have developed a disturbing habit of always “cutting off the head to cure a headache.” Instead of applying wisdom and patience, we often resort to destructive and divisive tactics. This approach will never get us the Nigeria we desire.

“Let me be clear: the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu that I know will not allow a repeat of what happened to former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 to happen to him in 2027. Those of us who have fought to secure Nigeria’s unity and defended her honour across the globe will not sit quietly and watch desperate politicians push the country toward unnecessary crisis.

“The current style of coalition-building is rooted in personal ambition, not patriotism. These alliances, driven by selfish gains, risk undermining the essence of national unity.

“There is a growing perception of unfairness in power distribution and political representation, particularly against the southern regions. Such imbalance only deepens existing grievances.

“When our leaders fail to offer inclusive governance, they inadvertently validate the grievances of agitators like Sunday Igboho and Nnamdi Kanu. Our failure to run a balanced and fair system is fueling their support base.

“Nigerians must understand that every error, every misstep by the current administration, is not a reason to ignite ethnic or religious chaos. If there is a flaw in the system, let us sit down as a people to correct it. Violence and division have never brought progress. It is only through dialogue, empathy, and inclusiveness that we can build a nation that works for everyone.

“As someone who served in the Nigerian Army, not in the Yoruba Army or a religious battalion, I was trained to serve the nation—not my ethnic group, not my religion. That training shaped me into who I am today: a patriot who places national interest above personal or political gain. Despite unfair treatment from the political party I have served with unwavering strength and resilience, I remain focused on one goal—national unity, love, and harmony.

“Ultimately, my message is simple: we must change the way we think. We must evolve beyond tribal politics and regional favoritism. Nigeria belongs to all of us, and it is only by embracing unity, justice, and fairness that we can truly achieve greatness”.

The APC chieftain also commended former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) for his confession over June 12 Presidential election annulment.

“I must commend the former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, for his recent remarks and renewed commitment to the unity of Nigeria.

“While he may have made some critical errors during his time in power—especially the annulment of the June 12, 1993, election—his current reflections and sincere concern for Nigeria’s cohesion deserve recognition.

“His experience has humbled him, and his public statements now suggest an ongoing search for national healing and forgiveness,” the statement added.

Okotete urges opposition to back Tinubu, restates loyalty to APC

Former national women leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Stella Erhuvwuoghene Okotete, has urged the opposition to back President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

She reaffirmed her steadfast loyalty and unwavering commitment to the President and the APC, expressing resolute solidarity as the nation looks ahead to 2027.

As the political landscape begins to stir in anticipation of the next electoral cycle, Okotete said she remains optimistic and unshaken in her belief that President Tinubu is well-positioned to secure a second term in office.

She confidently asserted that a victory for the president in 2027 is not just likely but inevitable, given his commendable performance thus far.

According to her, President Tinubu’s administration has delivered significantly on people-oriented governance and infrastructural development, placing him leagues ahead of any potential contender.

His transformative leadership, she stressed, has touched all corners of the nation, reinforcing the public’s confidence in his capability to continue steering Nigeria toward greater progress.

Okotete, currently serving as the Executive Director of Nexim Bank, highlighted her longstanding relationship with the president, which dates back to 2016.

She proudly acknowledged President Tinubu as her mentor, under whose guidance she has flourished both politically and professionally.

She called on members of opposition parties to set aside partisan interests and unite behind the president in the spirit of national development.

According to her, supporting the actualisation of the administration’s campaign promises is a collective responsibility, and with continued prayers and national backing, the best from President Tinubu is yet to come.

“This is where I belong… 4+4,” she declared, signaling not only her personal allegiance but also a rallying cry for continued unity and progress under the leadership of President Tinubu.

  • 2027: It’s APC, PDP, and the rest

2027: It’s APC, PDP, and the rest

SIR: As politicking for the 2027 elections gradually gains momentum, both new and familiar scenarios will inevitably unfold. Nigeria’s political landscape is dynamic, and often geopolitical, and 2027 will be no exception.

The truth is, despite its internal wrangling and historical baggage, any coalition that does not have the PDP as its central pillar is unlikely to achieve the kind of national spread required to win a presidential election in Nigeria. The PDP, with its extensive grassroots network and long-standing presence across all six geopolitical zones, remains the only opposition party with a truly nationwide structure even if its influence has somewhat waned in recent years.

Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the two significant third-force figures from the 2023 elections , do not appear particularly enthusiastic about forming a coalition, at least not one that’s clearly defined or strategic.

Peter Obi, from all indications, seems prepared to give the presidency another shot. However, the conditions that led to his surprise performance in 2023, particularly the waves of ‘unsolicited’ support from some urban youth and Christian voters disillusioned with the mainstream parties — have largely diminished. That groundswell was driven in large part by a reactive fear: the controversy surrounding Tinubu’s Muslim-Muslim ticket, which sparked anxiety among many Christians. Today, that fear has dissipated.

Kwankwaso, on the other hand, appears to have adopted a more pragmatic, localized approach. Kwankwaso’s posture suggests a strategy of quiet autonomy: “I have Kano; let me control it. I won’t interfere with you, and don’t interfere with me”. This mentality may give him relevance at the regional level but severely limits his national appeal.

President Bola Tinubu has, whether knowingly or not, given new oxygen to the dormant CPC bloc — a bloc of the APC that once represented the ideological and political base of Buhari’s loyalists. Now, with the central leadership perceived as disconnected from northern interests, the CPC bloc sees an opportunity to reassert itself. In places like the Northwest, especially, this could lead to a realignment of loyalties. Tinubu still has time and political tools to course-correct before 2027, if he chooses to use them.

The current promoters of a coalition, however, appear to be relying on an outdated strategy. The 2015-style bandwagon movement, built around the idea of ‘change’ is unlikely to resonate with voters in 2027.

In 2027, two key elements will determine electoral successes, not only at the centre but in states as well: massive resources; both financial and structural, and science. Gone are the days when charisma and rhetoric alone could deliver victory. Any political group serious about winning must embrace data-driven strategy. This means conducting detailed research into voter behaviour, turnout patterns, demographic shifts, and regional voting strengths. It also means understanding the psychology of the electorate, particularly among young voters, who now make up a decisive segment. Apolitical political scientists, data analysts, and behavioural experts will play a more important role than ever before. Without this, even the best-funded campaign could fall flat.

Finally, it is important to accept that the coalition model of 2015 and the voting behaviour of 2023 are not likely to repeat themselves. Nigeria’s political terrain has evolved a little so to speak. Though the tomorrow is pregnant, the three major blocs heading into the 2027 elections appear to be: President Bola Tinubu’s APC, the PDP, and the rest. And, it is shaping up to be a near-zero-sum game

    • Zayyad I. Muhammad, Abuja.
  • APC’s new found bride

    APC’s new found bride

It’s amusing, isn’t it, seeing APC’s many elements flocking to former President Muhammadu Buhari’s Kaduna home!

The loyalists: two groups, one led by APC National Chairman, ex-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje; the other, a hodgepodge of leaders and party who-is-who, went to pledge renewed loyalty to PMB and the federal ruling party.  It was Sallah solidarity.

Then, the rebels: the mercurial Nasir el-Rufai, had announced his defection to SDP.  Opportunistic Atiku Abubakar, ex-VeePee and ex-APC too, was in tow. They both came, bearing post-Sallah greetings.  But you knew both were fishing for propaganda value, in the northern streets at least, for their new political gambits.

Politicians!  Once again, the much vilified PMB is everyone’s dashing bride!

It appears centuries now from 2023, when PMB became the devil — for bequeathing a “dead economy”!  Friend and foe crowed it at the mountain top, not minding its limited monetarist context.  How can a president with robust infrastructure record — when it was all decay he inherited from Goodluck Jonathan, in the most resource-tasking of eras — leave behind a “dead economy”?  Was that not a violent contradiction in terms?

Anambra Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, owned that quip.  But wasn’t Soludo part of the Obasanjo-PDP old guard?  If his policies — as both national economic adviser and CBN governor — were so great, why was PDP soundly repudiated in 2015, to gift APC power?

Well, the PMB gaffe is a symptom, with APC as case study.  The real disease is the crisis in Nigeria’s political party system.

If the party system was sound, across the board, the Tinubu Presidency would have annexed PMB’s remarkable records in infrastructure and agriculture, incorporated it into own tenure, and benchmarked the APC era — 10 years by May 29 — against PDP’s, and demonstrate with facts, figures and verifiable projects, how they had bettered PDP’s 16 years, blighted with Obasanjo’s futile empire-chasing!

If they had done that, those now running from pillar to post to gather political moss, even as rolling stones, would have got less brazen lies to tell, even to the most gullible.

Post-power, PMB continues to show how a responsible ex-president should be — non-intrusive, polite and gracious to his successors and definitely, non-hectoring! Compare and contrast that to the eternal grating of Baba Iyabo, just to veil his barren but loud power years!

APC should learn to graft its past into its present, to power its future.  A folk hero like PMB — and he just restated his absolute faith in the party — is indispensable to that.

But that should have been from Day One.  You don’t just jerk awake and start dashing around as headless chickens at mid-term!  Still, it’s better late than never.

  • APC will remain dominant party in Kaduna, says Gov Sani

APC will remain dominant party in Kaduna, says Gov Sani

As the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, on Monday, distributed 117 vehicles, 200 tricycles and 1,000 motorcycles to his constituents as part of his empowerment programme, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will continue to dominate Kaduna state.

The Speaker at the well attended event in Zaria, distributed 117 vehicles, comprising 20 Hilux; 2 ambulances; 20 18-seater buses; 50 Sharon vehicles, and 25 sedan/saloon cars (Golf, Corolla & Peugeot 406), while 200 tricycles, popularly known as Keke NAPEP, and 1,000 motorcycles were given to various beneficiaries.

Speaking at the event, Kaduna state Governor Uba Sani expressed satisfaction with the Speaker’s leadership style, saying all the laudable projects Speaker Abbas has so far attracted to the state had his blessings.

“Since he became Speaker, he has been able to bring many people-oriented projects to Zaria and other parts of the state, and I am happy about that. Some people usually come to tell me that the Speaker does this and that, but I tell them that I am aware of all the projects, and I asked him to go ahead.

“Hon. Tajudeen Abbas is a blessing to all of us. Since his emergence as the Speaker, he has facilitated a lot of projects to Kaduna, in fact, I can can that, in the last one year, he has brought developments, interventions in the area of education, healthcare, infrastructure and agriculture. And I am happy to say that, he is not not only focusing on Zaria, being his constituency, he has touched lives of other people who are not even from his constituency, particularly those from Kaduna North Senatorial Zone.

“Today, we are here to witness one of the major achievements of the Rt. Hon. Speaker, by distributing to the people who are deserving in this very constituency. However, what we are witnessing today is not only about Zaria Local Government, all the seven local government areas of zone 1 from this support and intervention by the Hon. Speaker.

“As the Governor of Kaduna State, I need to reiterate that we are fortunate and very lucky to have the House of Representatives Speaker from our state. He is working closely with our government and he has been the pillar not only for Kaduna State Government, but for also Mr President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I met Mr President recently and he told me that he is pleased with the way the Hon. Speaker is piloting the affairs of the House of Representatives, and I can say that all of us that had at one time being in the National Assembly are proud of what he is doing at the level of House of Representatives.

“I therefore thank members of our party who have been here since morning, supporting our government, supporting our President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“All those talking about the Speaker, let me assure you that In Sha Allah, he will make history by being Speaker twice. We are together; we will continue to work together for the betterment of Kaduna State. All we are after is the progress of Kaduna State.

“I can assure you, with what we have seen here today, APC will continue to dominate Kaduna State. In the next few months, we will be running a one party state in Kaduna. Only recently, about four members of the House of Representatives from the opposition parties decamped to our great party, the APC. Members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly from different zones have also decamped to APC and that is a good sign and that shows that we are doing something that is positive, we are carrying everyone along on in Kaduna state,” the Governor said.

In his address, Speaker Abbas thanked his constituents for their continued support, noting that he would continue to do his best to attract people-oriented projects to them.

Speaking on his journey to become Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, was number one on the list of those who supported him despite not knowing him personally.

According to him, “The President gave me his support based on his conviction from what he read and heard about me. He never met me before supporting me. Different names were submitted to him, but he chose to support me because he was convinced by my credentials,” he said, asking his constituents to support and pray for the president to succeed.

The Speaker added that the next major person to support him against all odds was the current governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, whom he described as a key figure that supported him through thick and thin.

“Governor Uba Sani supported me at a time when most officials of the past administration in Kaduna State did not support me. He declared his support for me even before he took the oath of office, and ensured he kept to his words after swearing-in.

“My dear constituents, I want you to know how important Governor Uba Sani is to my political journey. Please extend the support you have for me to him.

“I want to repeat what I said during the Kaduna State APC Caucus meeting last year, which was that ‘I, Abbas Tajudeen, I undertake that nothing will separate me and Governor Uba Sani no matter what, come rain, come sunshine, I will be the last man standing for him.

“We are pleased with his style of governance and leadership qualities, and we will support him unconditionally. I make bold to say that my constituents and I are behind our governor and wish him the best. We are his supporters today; we’ll be his supporters tomorrow and beyond. Nothing will come between us In Sha Allah

“By 2027, Governor Uba Sani will see the kind of support we have for him. We will mobilize our people in Zaria and the entire Kaduna State for him,” the Speaker said.

The beneficiaries of the empowerment included religious and women groups, security agencies, local government party offices, education and health workers, NURTW, NUT, NUJ Zaria Unit, among others.
