APGA Forum: Nwoye can’t defeat Obiano

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Media Warriors Forum has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Anambra State, Tony Nwoye, cannot stop Governor Willie Obiano’s re-election.

The forum’s National Coordinator, Evang Chinedu Obigwe, described the APC governorship campaign launch as a political macabre dance that will yield no fruitful result.

He said: “The APC as a party, now famously referred to and known as All Promises Cancelled Party has nothing to offer the people of the state. Their mission in Anambra State is to impoverish the people the same way some of their governors that attended the rally impoverished those they are governing. The people cannot be hoodwinked into voting for APC, with Vice President Yemi Osibanjo’s promise that the APC-led Federal Government will complete the 2nd Niger Bridge because they are tired of being deceived with the 2nd Niger Bridge abandoned project.

“The trio of Yahaya Bello, Kogi State governor,  Rochas Okorocha, Imo State governor and Malam Nasir el-Rufai, Kaduna State governor, lacks the moral justification to tell the people  to vote for Tony Nwoye.

“Kogi State governor should bury his head in shame for owing Kogi civil servants 11 months.

“Rochas Okorocha failed Imolites and the Igbo race for honouring Jacob Zuma, president of South Africa in Imo State, with the erection of a statue when Igbo are being massacred in South Africa.

“El-Rufai insulted Igbo with his comment as chairman of APC restructuring committee, that Igbo are unequal to northerners and for that reason cannot be treated equally with northerners.

“The people will not heed El-Rufai’s political counsel since they are unequal to him and other northerners. APC in Igbo land represents bad luck and the people will not vote for APC on November 18 because doing that is tantamount to Igbo bringing bad luck upon themselves.

‘’Governor Obiano remains the best choice of the people and nothing will stop them from re-electing him for a 9second term.”

Nwobodo to Obiano: APC will beat APGA, PDP, others in Anambra guber poll

The first executive governor of  the old Anambra State, Chief Jim Nwobodo is confident that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will emerge victorious in the November 18 governorship election in  Anambra State.

Nwobodo, speaking in Onitsha at the weekend on the role of the first President of Nigeria, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, said the time has come for the youths to get more involved in the administration of the country.

“He will replace Willie Obiano at the government house”

He thanked Chukwuma Paul; Madu Nonso I.; Moghalu George N.; Nwibe Bart; Nwike Patrick N.; Obidigbo Chike; Okonwko D.; Onunkwo Johnbosco O.; Uba Andy E.; Uchegbu Adoabi K. and Uzoh Obinna? for supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) Anambra State flag-bearer, Dr. Tony Nwoye.

Kwara APGA hails court judgement restoring Oye

All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Kwara State has hailed the Appeal Court judgement restoring Dr.  Victor Oye as the national chairman of the party.

It also passed a vote of confidence on Oye.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu has upturned the judgement of an Enugu state High Court, which sacked Dr. Oye as the national chairman.

The Enugu State High Court, presided over by Justice A.R. Ozoemena, had ordered Oye’s removal and replaced him with Chief Martin Agbaso.

In a statement, the Kwara State Chairman of the APGA, Elder Ayo Oluleye, said the party was satisfied with leadership of Dr. Oye.

Members of the party, who hailed the state chairman, Elder Oluleye for his support for Dr. Oye, condemned alleged anti-party activities of some members of the party in Abuja.

The statement also prayed for the success of Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State in the governorship election.

  • ‘No party can beat APGA in Anambra’

‘No party can beat APGA in Anambra’

FORMER National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Chief Victor Umeh, has said that the chances of his party’s candidate, Governor Willie Obiano,  in the November 18, Anambra State governorship election is as bright.

Umeh who is the Chairman of Obiano’s reelection campaign committee, spokes on preparations for the poll.

He said, Obiano is better positioned to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people of Anambra State.

Umeh said: “We are going to win the election. We have every reason to win. One, there was a general agreement and understanding at the end of Peter Obi’s second term that the governorship seat should be zoned to Anambra North and then moved to Anambra South after eight years. Governor Obiano has done his first term and he is just going to do one term and power moves to the South in four years.

“Any other candidate will spend two terms and that would mean that the people of the South will have to wait for eight years for them to get the governorship seat against the agreement reached. Secondly, Governor Obiano’s performance has been excellent. The people will decide. But they will exercise their discretion in favour of APGA, because they are convinced that Obiano deserve a second term due to the outstanding performance in his first term. Anambra is safe today because of what Obiano has done. Workers salaries are paid as at when due and so workers are all happy with him. He has made significant impact in agriculture, especially as can be seen in the area of rice production. We have seen the sincere implementation of programmes and execution of projects by his government.” Umeh said, in the history of Anambra State, Obiano is the best governor after three years in office. What some people would be attempting to achieve in second term he has achieved it in his first three years in office.” Every community in Anambra State has benefitted from his government. He gave each community in the state N20 million for projects of their choice. No governor has ever done that. Anybody coming now will only be making promises that they cannot fulfill. They will tell you, I will do this, I will do that. They are only coming to experiment. But Obiano has been tested and can therefore be trusted. He is not coming to experiment but to simply continue the good works he is doing.”

Umeh added: “APGA has a character that allows for development. Obiano is standing on the strength of that character. He has no godfather. APGA has no godfather. APGA does not believe in godfatherism. The party has always given total support to the governor without anybody playing the role of a godfather. Peter Obi enjoyed that support when he was the governor under APGA.

Nobody interfered in his administration in the name of godfather. Obi wanted to at a point give the impression of being a godfather. But he was never a godfather when he was in APGA before moving to PDP. We all worked collectively for the victory of Obiano as APGA’s candidate in the last election and that is exactly what we are doing now as a party.

I have always played major role in APGA. I have always worked with others for the success of our party. But I have never put myself out as a godfather. Why should I when I know that it’s a collective effort. So, let nobody be deceived, we don’t play politics of godfaterism in APGA.”

Maku, others say peace, tolerance are panacea to Nigeria’s development

Former Minister of Information Labaran Maku and other stakeholders in Nasarawa State, have called on Nigerians to leave in peace and tolerate one another to ensure unity peace and development of the country.
They made the call their separate Sallah messages in Lafia on Saturday.
They said that peace was the only ingredient that would bring about unity and development in any society.
Maku, who is now the National Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), said the diversity among Nigerians should be a source of unity and not disunity.
He said that the almighty God knows the reason why He created human beings with differences of tribe, religion and race.
“God also knows why He chose to make all Nigerians despite our diversity to be citizens of the same country.
“If God wanted all Nigerians to be the same tribe and religion, He could have created us as such.
“So why will anyone hate the other person simply because he is of a different tribe or religion,” he asked.
Maku, therefore, urged all Nigerians to continue to live in peace with one another and work hard toward ensuring one indivisible country.
Similarly, Yusuf Agabi, gubernatorial candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015 in Nasarawa State, called on all Muslim Ummah and indeed all Nigerians to love one another.
He said that the Nigerians should always manifest the lesson of Eid-el-Kabir, which implied sacrifice and love for others at all times, and not just during the period.
He also called on Nigerians to continue to pray to God to grant President Muhammadu Buhari good health to enable him bring the country out of the current security and economic challenges.
On his parts, Mohammed Okpede, Member representing Doma North at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, urged herdsmen and farmers to imbibe the spirit of the season and embrace peace.
He said that both farmers and herdsmen needed each other for life to thrive smoothly hence the need for farmers to ensure that cattle routes were not blocked and herdsmen not to deliberately destroy farm produce.
He, therefore, urged Fulani and other community leaders to preach peace among their subjects in order to give peace a chance the way it was in the past.

  • Appeal Court restores Oye as APGA national chairman

The Court of Appeal siting in Enugu yesterday upturned the judgment of an Enugu State High Court which sacked Victor Oye as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

The Enugu State High Court, presided over by Justice A. R. Ozoemena, had ordered Oye’s removal and replaced him with Chief Martin Agbaso.

The judge ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to stop further dealings with Oye.

The action of the lower court followed a suit filed by APGA’s Secretary in the state, Mike Alioke, who challenged Oye’s continued occupation of the chairmanship seat after the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) affirmed his suspension on October 5, last year.

But delivering judgment on an appeal filed against the lower court’s verdict, the appellate court, presided by Justice Abdul Aboki, quashed the lower court’s judgment.

The judge declared that the appeal succeeded in its merit and declared Oye as APGA’s authentic National Chairman.

APGA seeks Agbaso’s arrest over alleged secretariat burglary

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has urged the police to arrest a chieftain of the party, Chief Martins Agbaso, for allegedly breaking into the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

APGA National Chairman Victor Oye addressed reporters yesterday in Abuja on the allegation.

He accused Agbaso, who is laying claim to the chairmanship of the party, of removing N19 million and sensitive documents from his office when he (Agbaso) and his group broke into the secretariat last Thursday.

Oye said the case was reported to the police, adding that Agbaso would answer to the law.

He said: “The real owners of the party are here to consolidate on the gains we have achieved.

“What happened last Thursday was shameful, intolerable, wicked and illegal. But for us, they came when we were not there because we had closed from the office.

“They broke into my office and took away N19 million, which was saved to conduct primary election and other important documents.

“These people are nothing but hoodlums, criminals. Their actions are intolerable. We are the real owners of APGA.

“The case is pending before the police. They will surely appear before the police and we will get back our N19 million and other sensitive documents they stole. They said they took it away, but no, they stole it.”

Oye expressed optimism that APGA would win the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State, adding that the party had gone beyond a political party and had become a “movement”.

He noted that Anambra residents were more concerned with the return of the incumbent governor, Willie Obiano, because he had performed “excellently”.

  • Ex-minister, APGA, others condemn killings

    Ex-minister, APGA, others condemn killings

Condemnations yesterday trailed the early morning killing of worshippers  at St. Philips Catholic Church in Ozubulu community.

Residents,  in separate interviews with our reporter and the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), described the attack as “heinous, unjustifiable and totally unwarranted”.

A community leader, Sir Jude Emecheta, said such a thing had never happened in the area. He described it as “unfortunate”, adding that ”a dark cloud has befallen my peaceful town”.

Emecheta, who is the Managing Director of Anambra Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA), said that the losses from the attack were too much for the people to bear.

He wondered why brothers could visit such an attack on their people and urged those involved to ‘’sheathe their swords”.

Former Minister of Aviation Osita Chidoka, who is a governoship aspirant, said he was saddened by the incident.

Chidoka decried the desecration of the temple of God, adding that nobody attacked anyone in the church even during war times.

“This is tragic. The church is a place of refuge to anyone who runs into it, and this wicked, barbaric and mindless bloodletting shows that something has gone wrong on our psyche.

“My heart goes to the bereaved at this moment of pain. I pray that God grants the soul of the departed eternal rest as I urge the security agents to fish out the perpetrators and make them face the law,” he said.

A former Secretary to the state Government, Mr. Oseloka Obaze, said such callous attacks dehumanised the society.

“Our heart goes to the family and parishioners of St. Philips Catholic Church, Ozubulu…

‘’Such violent incidents dehumanise our society.”

All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) National Chairman Victor Oye  said that no amount of provocation could justify the killing of innocent people who had gone to worship in a church.

Oye, who described the attack as “wicked”, urged the security agencies to unravel those responsible for the dastardly act.

“As a political leader, I totally condemn the Ozubulu church shooting as dastardly, unjustifiable and callous.

“Nobody has the right to kill innocent citizens. The Police and other relevant security agencies should ensure that the perpetrators of this crime are caught and made to face justice,” Oye said.

  • Anambra election: APC, PDP in gang-up against APGA

Six aspirants from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at the weekend, met in Nnewi, Anambra State, ahead of the November 18 Governorship Election against the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), in the state.

Though they did not want to be mentioned, the interaction held during a meeting under the aegis of Anambra Union, convened by the former Minister of Health, Prof. Alphonsus B.C. Nwosu.

They declared that anybody that should rule Anambra would not have doubtful qualification, adding that every claim by any aspirant should be verifiable.

According to Nwosu the convener, the aspirants were brought together to know one another and identify themselves and their programmes for the state. He said that one candidate could not be the best and that was why aspirants from the two political parties, with national outlook, came together to present themselves to the union so that there would be proper assessment of people in the race.

The group condemned strongly the high cost of electioneering campaign in Anambra state by aspirants.

According to the former minister, “Anybody that will rule Anambra should not have a doubtful qualification and whatever he claims should be verifiable”

“Whoever aspires to govern the state that produced the Great Zik of Africa, Dim ChukwuemekaOjukwu, Chinua Achebe, among other giants, must be accomplished in learning and human management, not ignoramus”

“The next governor of Anambra state shall come from the Anambra North senatorial zone for the next four years after which it shall be the turn of Anambra South Senatorial zone”

The group said it was of the opinion that the next governor of the All Progressives Congress (APC) or PDP would produce the next governor because they are parties with national outlook.

They maintained that Anambra state could not continue on its costly path of self-inflicted isolation from the federal government of Nigeria by belonging to an enclave political party.

APGA reaffirms Agbaso as acting National Chairman

    •Says Victor Oye remain suspended

The leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has reaffirmed Martin Agbaso as the Acting National Chairman, in accordance with decision of the Court of Appeal which sacked Victor Oye.

The party said it was laughable that the Victor Oye-led group was challenging the decision of the court, describing such move as an attempt to ridicule the judiciary in the state.

The Appeal Court in Enugu, on July 10, validated a High Court order compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise and deal with the Martin Agbaso-led APGA, following the suspension of Victor Oye as National Chairman.

A statement by the Acting National Publicity Secretary Onapuruagu Ukaegbu said the party’s programme ahead of the November 18 governorship election in Anambra remained unchanged. It said the August 18 primaries will hold as planned in Awka.

The statement read: “The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) notes with amusement and derision, the bastardisation of the Anambra State judiciary by the state government, under the watch of Governor Willie Obiano, in their hallucinated attempt to prop up their puppet chairman, Victor Oye.

“The Awka High Court judicial rascality is of no moment. Article 20(4) of APGA Constitution, under which Oye was suspended, is explicit and does not require a national convention and should not have befuddled the judge in his mischief and misapplication.

“Also, the Nnewi Interlocutory Order does not call for much discussion, being a rehash of the earlier ex-parte Order vacated by the same court as being offensive to Section 87(II) of the Electoral Act 2010, as amended.

“The provisions of the Electoral Act are clear and robs any court the jurisdiction and powers to bar persons, parties and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from conducting primaries or election.

“Chief Martin Agbaso remains the national chairman of APGA until the Court of Appeal or Supreme Court decides otherwise. The party’s programme and activities for the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State is on cruise control and unstoppable.”
