    IHMS wins ‘West African HMO of the Year’ award

    International Health Management Services Ltd (IHMS) has received the West African Quality Health Maintenance Organisation Company of the Year Award. It was presented to the organisation by the Quality Management Development Institute (QMDI).

    The award, which was presented to IHMS in Lagos during the annual West African Quality Endorsement, Products/Services Awards (WAQEPSA), was instituted to recognise products, services, individuals and organisations that have excelled when measured against the framework of excellence.

    Chief Operating Officer, IHMS, Dr. Chidi Ukandu, who expressed happiness at winning the award, described the achievement as further proof of the commitment of IHMS to delivering total quality service to all its subscribe

    “Over the last 14 years, IHMS has dedicated itself to serving our enrollees nationwide with best-in-class health insurance services with a view to promoting health and wellness in our areas of coverage,” Ukandu said.

    He stressed: “The award has affirmed our capacity to deliver on our promise and it will spur IHMS and its management to reach for higher quality of service to all its enrollees in accordance with global best practice.”

    Ukandu explained that the vision of IHMS is to be the preferred provider of integrated and quality healthcare solutions in Nigeria. This, according to him, is in tandem with the goals of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

    “From inception, IHMS has supported its vision with the latest and most effective ICT tools and a nationwide select group of primary, secondary, tertiary and ancillary healthcare providers that offer us necessary leverage to meet the needs of our customers.”

    The Award Board Chairman, a former President of the Certified Pension Institute of Nigeria, Dr. Olu Ige, said: “IHMS clinched the award from amongst several organisations recommended to QMDI’s selection committee in a public survey that was based on several parameters that included international best practice; operational excellence; quality and focused leadership; quality products/services; sound business ethics and Customers’ satisfaction.”

    LAIF Award: X3M Ideas targets top of the table slot

    The Chief Executive Officer, X3M Ideas, Mr. Steve Babaeko, has expressed regrets that the agency is yet to get to its target of topping the LAIF Award table.

    Despite winning gold in the just concluded edition, Babaeko said he is impressed with the fact his agency is three years old and has been able to compete favourably with leaders in the industry.

    “I am impressed that the so called younger agencies are making good marks against older ones. A certain young agency occupied the No.1 position while X3M is 4th on the table. This gives much hope to the younger generation of practitioners. We are grateful to God and our clients for giving us the opportunities and for believing in us,” he told The Nation.

    Overall, X3M Ideas won three Gold medals, two Silver and three Bronze to emerged the 4th on the 2015 LAIF medal table.

    The agency’s  Diamond Bank advert campaign titled: “Door” in the radio category of the corporate Image segment won Gold medal. The agency also won another via its work for Etisalat Lagos Photo (Best use of Original photography) while the third gold came in from a radio commercial for Virgin Atlantic for the Ads that never ran category. The ageny’s Etisalat’s Easy Cliq Cyber picked a silver medal each respectively among others.

    In addition, the duo of the agencies talents – Jessica Iwayemi (Copy Writer) and Uduak Akpan (Art Director) won the “2015 Young LAIFERS” awards having emerged ahead of other young professionals from other competing agencies.

    The agency’s entries across major categories of the awards culminated impressive number of nominations and X3M Ideas made its debut at the LAIF awards in November 2013. The agency which opened shop on August 2012 barely a year then, recorded one gold, two silver and one bronze medals despite  sending works done between August and December for the 2013 edition of the award.

    In 2014, the agency recorded two gold, five silver and six bronze medals carting home 13 medals.

    “The2014 result also proved that X3M Ideas’ performance at its maiden participation was never a fluke. For both years the agency stood at the No. 3 spot on the Nigeria’s creative advertising league table,” an industry observer stated.

    LAIF is organized by the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN) As the body celebrated 10th edition of the awards whose objectives include encouraging and celebrating creative excellence and innovation, industry players believe the award begining to enhance the chances of agencies in getting recognised by clients.

    Former Lagos State Governor Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, are to be honoured at the maiden edition of Firstpost Awards on December 19.

    Also corporate giants-Nigerian Breweries, MTN, Sterling Bank, Shell Producing & Development Company (SPDC), Seven- Up Bottling Company and Nestle- have been nominated alongside entertainment maestros like Tu Face Idibia, Don Jazzy, Ali Baba and Banky W in various categories  of the awards.

    According to the Publisher of Firstpost, Clementina Olomu, the Tinubus are being honoured for their outstanding contributions to the development of Lagos State.

    She said Tinubu, who is being bestowed with the Exemplary Leadership Award, has been successful in leadership both in and out of the office.

    The publisher said the theme of the award is “Sustainable Growth and Development” .  She said: “We can only have the Nigeria of our dreams when people are inspired, empowered and given a sense of belonging.

    “We can only have a better Nigeria when the rights of citizens are not trampled upon, particularly by politicians who take advantage of them. Over the years, we have seen politicians who come up with lofty programme ideas, financial assistance and lots of promises which are not fulfilled. Now is the time for us to lend our voices and contribute in whatever way we can to make that change happen.”

    Genesis Studios clinches marketing award

    For its role in developing the marketing world and generating quality content, Genesis Studios, one of Nigeria’s foremost TV and Film Production Company, has been awarded as the Content Marketing Company of the year award by the Media World Awards.

    The awards ceremony, which held on Saturday, November 7, saw the television content production studio being presented with the award based on its performance in marketing content like So Wrong So Wright, and Tales of Eve from its stable.

    Delighted at the recognition, which he described as timely, CEO of Genesis Studios, Olaegbe Olatubosun, said that it is coming at a time when his outfit decided to open its platform to other content producers.

    “It used to be about marketing Genesis’ content and products. But over time, we’ve seen that we have done well in terms of service and in terms of delivery. So, we set up a company called CREN, Cross Roots Entertainment Network and this award is just a confirmation that we are the right people to do business with if you are a content developer and you don’t want to disturb yourself about how to go and market your content to the advertisers or the advert agencies. This award is a confirmation that CREN is the right company to talk to. So we feel happy, we feel fulfilled in the sense that when we strategically came up with this company, that was when a confirmation is coming as the best content company of the year. It’s like an icing on the cake,” he said.

    The Media World Awards is one of Nigeria’s foremost awards which celebrates strides in brand and advertising. To spice up its award categories, this year, it added a content marketing category and Genesis Studios happens to be the very first winner of that category.

    Ayade bags award on environment 

    Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade was yesterday in Lagos bestowed with the Sustainability Champion Award at the 9th Edition of the prestigious Nigeria Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Awards (SERAs).

    The award to the Governor, according to the organisers, is in recognition of his “well-documented works on the environment as the chairman of the International Institute of Environmental Research.”

    Ayade was also praised for many of his seminal works and innovations that have enhanced the management of the environment.

    According to his citation as read at the event, Ayade “worked on Groundwater Remediation in Nigeria and invented a sewage treatment plant run on solar energy.

    “Professor Ayade has won laurels from the Japanese Government and elsewhere for his outstanding research on global warming.”

    Other prominent Nigerians who were also honoured with awards at the event included Billionaire businessman, Alhaji Aliko Dangote for being the single highest investor in corporate social responsibility and sustainability in the country in the period under review.

    Ahmed Musa wins Nigerian Sports Award

    Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has been named the Footballer of the Year 2015 at the Nigerian Sports Award ceremony held at the Eko Hotels in Lagos.

    The CSKA forward, who was nominated alongside Watford striker Odion Ighalo and Sunshine Stars’ Tunde Adeniji, was not physically present as he has returned to Russia after the international break.

    Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick was present to receive the award on behalf of Musa.

    Following his great performance, on 1 June 2015, Musa signed a new four-year contract with CSKA, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2018/19 season.

    In the women category, Ngozi Okobi beat Desire Oparanozie and Asisat Oshoala to emerge winner.

    Other categories saw basketballer Chamberlain Oguchi beat Olumide Oyedeji and Aruna Quadri to the Ball Sport Person of the Year, while powerlifter Are Feyisetan beat D’Tigers’ William Voigt and Bashir Mohammed in Cycling to the Coach of the Year.

    In Combat Sport Person of the Year, Efe Ajagba was named winner ahead of Boltic Sinivie and Henry Hendrix, while Kelechi Nwanaga was named the Discovery of the Year ahead of  Taiwo Awoniyi and Amusan Tobiloba.

    Special Sport Person award went to Yakubu Adesokan who beat Loveline Obiji and Lovina and Onyegbule to the feat, with Yakmut Alhassan being named the  Sports Administrator of the Year.

    Sportsman of the Year went to powerlifter Yakubu Adesokan, just as Balqis Otunla won the Weightlifter of the year award. Tosin Oke was named Track and Field Star of the Year ahead of Uke Claire and Kelechi Nwanagan, and Team of The Year was awarded to Men Basketball Team.

    Eyeanugie Primary School in Benin City was named the School Sports Award winner. Ganiyu Yusuf was named the Journalist of the Year (photo), Tana Aiyejina was named the winner of the Journalist of the Year (Print), Chinasia Ibonye emerged winner of the Journalist of the Year (Radio), and Austin Okon-Akpan won the Journalist of the Year (Television) in the colourful ceremony also attended by the new Youth and Sports minister Solomon Dalung.

    … I didn’t award $2bn arms contracts, says Jonathan

    Former President Goodluck Jonathan  in far away  Washington DC,USA on Thursday, dismissed allegation of his government’s involvement in arms deal in the range of $2billion.

    “I did not award any $2 billion contract for procurement of weapons,” Dr Jonathan was quoted as saying in a report in an online medium, Premium Times.

    It was his first public statement on the probe of arms contracts during his tenure.

    A presidential investigations committee into arms procurement by the administration said in its interim report that it found extra-budgetary spending to the tune of N643.8 billion and an additional $2.2 billion in the foreign currency component, all managed and supervised by the then National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki.

    But Jonathan speaking at a forum in Washington DC, according to the online report, said: “Where did the money come from? I did not award a contract of $2billion for procurement of weapons.”

    Dasuki had said in a statement Wednesday that all contracts and accruing payments were made with the  approval of the President,saying:“Nigerians should note that all the services generated the types of equipment needed, sourced suppliers most times and after consideration by the Office of the NSA, the President will approve application for payment.”

    Jonathan who spoke on “Presidential elections and democratic consolidation in Africa: Case studies on Nigeria and Tanzania,” organised by the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS)  said  he found some of the figures which the Buhari government claims to be missing from the treasury or mismanaged  unbelievable.

    “Sometimes, I feel sad when people mention these figures,” he said.

    “When the president (Buhari) paid official visit to the US, there were some figures that were mentioned that I don’t believe.”

    He cited the example of $150billion  said  to have been stolen  by previous administrations.

    “He didn’t say my government, he said previous administrations…$150 billion is not 150 billion naira. People play politics with very serious issues.”

    On another $59.8 million  alleged to have been  misappropriated within a 12-month period while he was in office, he said: “In Nigeria, if you lose $59.8 million in a year, federal and state governments will not pay salaries.

    “Of course we brought international audit teams, forensic auditors and they didn’t see that.”

    The former president said he did not want to join issues with the new government. “I wanted to keep away from the public for at least twelve months.”

    Provost gets NANS excellence award

    The National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) has honoured the Provost of the Federal College of Education (FCE) in Eha-Amufu, Enugu State, Prof Benjamin Mbah, with an award of excellence.

    Presenting the award, NANS General Secretary, Ola Kolawale, who led other members of the body to the college, said the award was in recognition of the provost’s outstanding performance since his assumption of office.

    Kolawale, a Political Science student of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria, Kaduna State, was accompanied by National Treasurer, Isah Usman, Director of Gender Affairs, Mary Isaac, and Chief of Staff to NANS president, Victor Chizozie.

    Kolawale said Prof Mbah’s activities in the college distinguished him as a leader with good mission and vision. The NANS Secretary said the college had witnessed rapid infrastructural development and high-level peace.

    “NANS considers Prof Mbah for this award because of his leadership qualities and his contribution to nation building. He has changed the face of the college through provision of key facilities to aid learning and cultural developments in the school.”

    Kolawale noted NANS would not give award to any person because of money and other material, stressing that recipient of NANS honour deserved the award based on their contributions to education development and nation building. He said the award given to the provost was purely on merit and in appreciation of Prof Mbah’s positive contributions to the growth of the college.

    He said: “NANS is impressed by the level of peace, infrastructural development and academic performance of students of the college. We believe Prof Mbah deserves to be honoured with this award.”

    Responding, the provost said his achievement was encouraged by the students’ zeal to learn, saying he was happy that his efforts were recognised by the association. He assured that he would not relent in discharging his responsibilities to the college, noting that he had dedicated his life to enrich students in knowledge.

    Prof Mbah observed that it was always difficult for people to notice achievements of public officers, pointing out that the NANS leaders must have been struck by the improved rating of the college in academics and facility development.

    He said: “In this part of the world, we don’t normally see achievements of our leaders. It is only what the leader did not do well that people will point out. But, I think NANS must have seen something exceptional here and said let us encourage the provost. Even though they may bear my name, all achievements on the campus is for all staff and students.”

    The Registrar of the college, Mrs C.N. Nebedum, on behalf of the management, congratulated the provost for the honour. Nebedum said the NANS made right choice by spotting the provost’s developmental policy and recognise his efforts.

    The Deputy Provost, Mr John Nebo, said the award showed that college was on course. He hailed the NANS leaders for the honour.
