  • Access Bank wins Karlsruhe Sustainability Award

    Access Bank Plc has received the Outstanding Business Sustainability Award at this year’s Karlsruhe Sustainable Finance Awards in Germany.

    This is coming barely a week after it won the  Euromoney Best Bank Transformation Award in London.

    This award, presented to the bank in Karlsruhe, Germany’s most sustainable city, recognises the bank’s outstanding success in incorporating economic, social and environmental aspects into its corporate strategy and business processes.

    This is the first time an African financial institution to win the award in recognition of the bank’s ability to embed sustainability in the financial institution.

    The ceremony was attended by global chief executives, senior executives of winning institutions and top German government officials.

    At the presentation, Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the bank, Herbert Wigwe, said: “Winning the Outstanding Business Sustainability Achievement Award is a validation of Access Bank’s commitment, leadership and practice in Sustainability. For this, I would like to thank the Board, Management and staff of the bank. We are delighted to be presented with this highly coveted award. It is a testimonial to the unwavering support we have enjoyed from customers over the past few years and the hard work we have done in line with our five-year strategy to become the world’s most respected African Bank ’’

    “At Access Bank, we believe our operations, loan and project finance must have the barest environmental footprint. Indeed, we believe the net impact of our activities must be positive on the environment. As such, we are champions of climate change mitigation and adaptation,” he added. He assured that the bank will be further motivated and maintain profitable growth while embracing sustainability.

    The conveners said the awards are aimed at honouring organisations that have made outstanding contributions in sustainable finance, stimulated the interests of financial institutions and other stakeholders in integrating sustainability in their core business strategy.

    It recognises candidates who promote growth of sustainable financial instruments and markets worldwide particularly in green finance and investments, financial inclusion and social finance, green equity and holistic integration of sustainability in the financial services institutions.

  • Ayade wins Tourism Man of the Year Award

    Cross River State Governor, Professor Ben Ayade,  has won the Balafon Tourism Man of the Year Award for Nigeria and West Africa.

    It was a four-man race, involving him, the Minister of Tourism for Ghana, Minister of Tourism for The Gambia and Obinna Ekezie, the Managing Director of Wakanow.

    This was based on the results released recently  by the award committee. The Balafon Award Committee, made up of travel professionals and journalists from Nigeria and Ghana, approved the results for the best performers in travel and tourism in West Africa. The committee had earlier met and shortlisted nominees for the different award categories. The shortlisted nominees were then exposed to public votes online.

    After a robust debate, while analysing the results, the award committee approved the results. Winners will be presented with award certificates at the Accra Weizo event in Ghana on July 15. From the analysis, it is obvious that most of the voters were from Nigeria and Ghana with a few other voters from other parts of Africa.

    The governor, in his first year in office, not only sustained the tradition of the Carnival Calabar, but raised the bar for the event. His tourism achievements in 12 months in office included the opening of the first monorail in sub Sahara Africa, hosting the biggest ever street carnival in Africa last year and setting up Callywood, the new movie genre rated to be bigger and better than Nollywood.

    He is also creating new cities in the state. Cross River State prides itself on having created the first authentic international carnival in Africa with participation from Africa and other parts of the world.

    He introduced the first Bikers Parade, the first green carnival and delivered the largest crowd ever seen since carnival began in 2014.

    These achievements helped governor clinch the double award in his first year.

    Neimeth MD gets Award

    THE Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals Plc Managing Director Dr Ebere Igboko Ekpunobi has won the GSK Inventor Award for two invention patents.

    In statement, the firm’s Corporate Affairs chief, Mazi Okoro I. Nwaka, said the inventions were made during Dr Ekpunobi’s tenure at GSK.  He said Dr Ekpunobi’s inventions are ‘’related to the discovery of compounds potentially useful for the treatment of a rare disease’’.

    He said the award was instituted by GSK Research and Development Centre in Shangai, China, to recognise contributions in taking a molecule through the drug development to its launch.

    GSK’s Senior Counsel, Global Patents, Fang Qian, said the Inventor Award recognises the importance of intellectual property and the contribution of inventors to the patents that are critical to creating value for patients and for the company.

    A graduate of Pharmacy from the University of Nsukka (UNN), Dr Ekpunobi holds the doctorate in Pharmacy Administration of Purdue University, W. Lafayete Indiana, United States.

    She has worked at Burroughs Welcome as Product Manger for Retrovir, US and Director, Commercial Strategy, HIV/Anti-infectives, Glaxo Wecome. In 2010, she pitched tent with CVM/NS Global Franchise, Shangai, China as Head, Research and Development Commercial Heights, from where she joined Neimeth.

    The Nigerian Brewery has called for entries for the Eighth Golden Pen Awards.

    The brewery’s Corporate Affairs Adviser, KufreEkanem, who explained at a media parley to announce this year’s edition of the awards, said  it would reward journalists in three categories – the Nigerian Breweries Golden Pen Reporter of the Year, Nigerian Breweries Golden Pen Photo Journalist of the Year and  the Nigerian Breweries Golden Pen Report of the Year.

    He noted that the award was introduced to promote professionalism in reporting. It is also meant to reward  journalists who abide by the ethics of journalism, he said.

    Like the previous two editions, Ekanem said the theme of this year’s award is: Education, youth empowerment and talent development.

    He stressed that the previous editions strengthened the credibility of the awards because they have made it more inclusive and ensured an increased media buy-in.

    He urged journalists to enter for the award, adding that the submission of entries,which started on June 28 will end on August 19, this year.

    He listed the factors that the jury would analyse in the entries  as originality, news value, use of resources, credibility and factuality.

    It was an evening to celebrate iconic brands, corporate institutions and outstanding individuals who have distinguished themselves at the Marketing Edge Brands and Advertising Excellence awards in Lagos.

    The event, which was witnessed by leaders in Marketing Communication across Nigeria saw Chivita 100 per cent fruit juice recognised as the Most Outstanding Juice Brand in the Country.

    Chivita 100 per cent fruit juice from the stable of Chi Limited was adjudged the most outstanding juice brand in the country because of its consistency in the market, creativity and value as well as the top quality packaging of the juice that allows for the best delivery.

    According to the Marketing Edge, the fruit juice also won the award because it remains the only 100 per cent fruit juice available in Nigeria’s shelf and comes with No Preservatives and No Added Sugar.

    The award has over the years be recognised as a viable and respected platform in the brands and marketing communication sector due to its unbiased role in critical analyses of the sector.

    The company’s Managing Director, Mr.Deepanjan Roy, expressed gratitude to the organisers of the event for creating an excellent platform to recognise outstanding brands which have remained consistent in satisfying consumers need.

  • Big Cola wins brand of the year award

    BIG Cola, the flagship brand of AJEAST Nigeria, a subsidiary of the AJE Group worldwide, last weekend won the prestigious award for ‘Africa’s Fastest Growing Premium Soft Drink Brand of The Year 2016’.

    The award was presented at the African Brands Congress, which held at the Sheraton Hotel & Towers, Lagos, Nigeria. Contending with BIG Cola in this category were Pepsi Cola, Coca Cola and LaCasera.

    Following the research reports submitted by the Technical Committee of the Institute of Brand Management of Nigeria (IBMN), organisers of the African Brand Leadership Merit Awards, BIG Cola was awarded the winner in this category of awards.

    Receiving the award, Country Director of AJEAST Nigeria, Mr. Theo Williams, said: “Following the launch of the brand in Lagos, East, West and North regions last October, BIG Cola has continually delivered on its promise to democratise soft drinks consumption by offering consumers premium products with more value for less money spent.’’

    He added that the ‘more for less’ brand has continually demonstrated leadership in innovation in the industry and that new brands will be introduced to give discerning consumers viable and premium options in the drink sector.

    The African Brand Leadership Merit Awards is an annual fiesta that celebrates brands excellence. The award celebrates leadership, innovation and creativity in Africa. It also showcases the brilliant minds and institutes that deliver positive change and shapes Africa’s future.

    The African Brands Congress honours CEO’s, brands, products, services and public officers, who have excelled and demonstrated uncommon initiative and have driven leadership in the African economy. It was designed to educate, engage and inspire brand building and value creation.

    The event was keenly monitored by international observers from the United States (US), United Kingdom (UK), Germany, Australia, France, Japan, China, Italy, Korea, Turkey and India. The event was witnessed by participants from Ghana, Kenya and South Africa to mention but a few.

  • Award for CEO

    The Managing Director/Chief Executive of Halogen Security Company Limited, Mr. Wale Olaoye, has been conferred with the “Outstanding Leadership and Professional Civil Security Award” by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

    The award, according to the  body, is in recognition of Mr. Olaoye’s immense contributions to the development of students/youths and the improvement of security practices in Nigeria, and also for his visionary leadership in the society.

    Speaking during the presentation of the award, the Chairman of NANS, Lagos chapter, Comrade Sanusi Suleiman, described Mr. Olaoye as, “an astute leader, a role model and a philanthropist who has continued to inspire youths to realise their dreams and aspirations”.

     

    The Comrade recalled several instances where the Halogen Security CEO had identified with and shared his knowledge with students, impacting on them not just his leadership and business acumen and skills but also his over 20 years’ experience and knowledge in the Risk Management spacesecurities industry. “Mr. Olaoye is a personality of repute that needs to always be celebrated. We are proud to identify with him and look forward to having him in our Hall of Fame soon”, Comrade Suleiman added.

     

    In his response, Mr. Olaoye expressed immense gratitude to NANS for the award. According to him, “this honour, by no less a body such as NANS, is a rare privilege. We appreciate the Association for recognizing the entire Halogen Security Company Limited team and we assure you of our continued support to the youths”.

  • CAP wins Great Place To Work award

    Chemical and Allied Products (CAP) Plc, a subsidiary of UAC of Nigeria Plc. (UACN), manufacturers of Dulux paint and the technological licensee of AkzoNobel, has won this year’s Great Place To Work award.

    The award was presented to the frim  at an event organised by the Great Place To Work (GPTW) Institute, in  Lagos.

    CAP was rated among the top eight firms in “The Best Companies to Work in Nigeria Category”. Others that made the list include; EMC Information System Nigeria Limited, Courteville Business Solutions Plc, Guinness Nigeria Plc, SC Johnson & Son Nigeria Limited, Microsoft Nigeria, Poise Nigeria and Konga Online Shopping Limited.

    Presenting the award to CAP,  the Chairman, Great Place To Work, Nigeria, Mr. Ghandi Olaoye, said the firm emerged as one of the winners of the award having exhibited and maintained global best practices in work place people management practices.

    Receiving the award, the Managing Director, CAP, Mrs. Omolara Elemide, described the award as very inspiring, dedicating it to the employees of the firm, whose selfless service and commitment continues to propel management to adopt people-oriented policies and culture that promote trust, credibility and mutual respect.

  • Osinbajo, Fashola, Okojie for award

    Vice President of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo;  Minister of  Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Raji Fashola;  National Commandant of Peace Corps Nigeria, Ambassador Dickson Akoh;  Retired Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Olubunmi  Cardinal Okogie, among others have been billed to receive awards at the 13th anniversary of the African Foundation for Peace and Love Initiatives (AFPLI) holding on May 20 at Ostra Hall, Alausa, Lagos.

    Other awardees include the Osolo of Isolo, Oba Kabiru Adelaja, Akran of Badagry Aholu Wheno Menu-Toyi 1 and Olu of Agege.

    AFPLI’s President, Rev Titus Oyeyemi, said the aim of the award was to encourage individuals working to promote peace and unity in Nigeria.

  • Award for Boroffice

    The senator representing Ondo North, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice, has been named the state’s most outstanding lawmaker (2015) by the government-owned newspaper, The Hope.

    Boroffice, a second-term senator, is an All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant.

    A letter to the lawmaker by the management said: “Boroffice is being honoured for his contribution toward the advancement of governance and provision of quality representation”.

    The organisation said the senator deserved the award due to his “robust contribution to lawmaking and governance in the Senate; coupled with your empowerment programmes for indigenes in the state”.

    Boroffice’s media aide Kayode Adeniyi said: “Our position on the issue will be made known at the appropriate time.”
