Bayelsa United urged to up their games

The management of Bayelsa United have warned players to raise their games if the club is to achieve its set goals this season.

The Restoration Boys have managed to garner a point out of possible nine in three games played this season.  The team’s only point was against Lobi Stars at home.

The coach Solomon Ogbeide-tutored side also lost state Federation cup final to city rivals, Nembe City.

The team’s media officer, Edi Ohis told SportingLife that the club is not happy with the team’s performance and had handed a last warning to the players to be determined and focused.

Ohis informed further that the club have kept the players busy with series of friendly matches with local clubs in the state to keep them fit for the next home game against FC Taraba.

“We are doing everything within our reach to see that the club meet its set target this season. We believe that the club will bounce back. What they need to do now is to up their games. We have arranged some  friendly games for them during the break to keep them busy ahead of the week 4 league game against FC Taraba.

“We drew our first home game against Lobi Stars and we don’t want the repeat of that again. We want to win all our home games and also pick points away too that is what I think will propel our aspiration this season,” Ohis told SportingLife.

Former African champions Enyimba trounced Bayelsa United 4-0 in a Nigeria league Week 27 game at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba Sunday, mtnfootball.com reports.

This outing was in sharp contrast to the lame performance Enyimba produced in a Week 26 game at Akwa United, which the reigning Federation Cup champions deservedly lost.

Chimezie Amanfor scored the opening goal for “The Peoples Elephant,” before Mfon Udoh doubled the lead to give Enyimba a 2-0 lead going into the interval.

Udoh has now scored 12 goals.

Nzube Anaezemba made it 3-0 with a superb effort from the edge of the box in the 55th minute.

Veteran striker Emeka Nwana added the fourth goal in the closing minutes of the encounter.

Bosso Boasts I know how to beat Bayelsa United

Abia Warriors Technical Adviser, Ladan Bosso has described his side 3-1 win over Bayelsa United in a Week 12 Glo Premier League match at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin on Wednesday as the most convincing away victory so far this season.

The former Kano Pillars coach told SportingLife that he went into the game to prove to his former employers that he made lots of contributions to the team’s successful outing last season. Bosso left the Yenagoa-based side for Abia Warriors at the beginning of the ongoing campaign.

Bosso alleged that the Bayelsa United secretary, Thalma Agara, undermined his achievements with the Restoration Boys before the match, when she said it was the club’s money and not his contributions as a coach that gave the team a continental ticket last season.

The former Wikki Tourists of Bauchi manager then mocked Bayelsa United secretary by dedicating the victory to her.

“I want to first of all thank God for the victory because this is the most convincing away win so far this season. It was a deserved victory for us and you can’t query or contest the 3-1 win,” Bosso told SportingLife.

“I dedicated the win to God and Bayelsa United secretary. I still know Bayelsa United password because I know their strength and I prepared well for the match. Again, before the match, I remember vividly that Bayelsa United secretary stated that it was their money that gave them the continental ticket last season and not my impact as a coach. She said that to undermine my achievements with the club.

“So when I was going for the match, because of her statement, I cried to God that if I was responsible for my cause of leaving Bayelsa United God should use the match to punish me but if she was responsible for my exit God should use the match to punish them. I am happy that God answer my prayer.”

The former Niger Tornadoes boss also heaped praises on his boys for their resilient effort against Bayelsa United. He added that the team’s current position on the log is not true reflection of the reality.

“I want to appreciate my rooky boys for their outstanding performance. I want to also thank the state government, management  and the club’s fans for their support despite the setback we’ve  experienced in  the recent time. Again, our current position on the log does not reflect true reality on ground. As at today (talking about week 12 matches) we are the only club that has played four matches at home while we played seven away matches. So people should not judge us with our position.”

    • Clear four players from Nembe to boost campaign
    • Promise home win over Nasarawa United today

Bayelsa United have stated that they were thrilled at the prospect of playing against Sewe Sport of Cote d’ Iviore in the play offs of the CAF Confederation Cup after the draws in Cairo, Egypt pitted them together.

The Restoration Boys defeated How Mine of Zimbabwe in the second round of the second rated competition 3-2 on aggregate after a home 2-0 victory nullified their 1-2 loss in Bulawayo a week earlier.

Sewe on their part dropped from the CAF Champions League after they couldn’t go past former champions TP Mazembe of DR Congo whom they lost to on away goal rule after a 2-2 draw over the two legs.

Speaking on the draws, Bayelsa United’s Media Officer, George Ameli told SportingLife that the club was ready for any of the eight teams that dropped from the Champions League and that the choice of Sewe would bring out the best in them ahead of both legs.

He said the Restoration Boys had wished to go all the way in the competition and that to achieve that, they must be ready to play against the best on the continent.

“We have seen and known our opponents in the next round. We couldn’t have asked for more. We are aiming to be the best in the competition and to get that, we must be ready to play against the best. We are satisfied with the choice of Sewe Sport and we will continue with our preparation for that match to ensure that we get to the group stage after the next two legs,” Ameli told SportingLife.

Meanwhile, Bayelsa United have been boosted ahead of their league game against Nasarawa United today in Sapele with the addition of their newly signed players whom they have cleared from Nembe City.

The four players that will help the Yenagoa side’s campaign in the Confederation Cup and the league are Braye Brown, Opubo Japhet, Ebitimi Agogo and Tamunobo Best. Ameli revealed that some of these players could make their league debut today against the Solid Miners from Lafia.

Bayelsa United will travel to Cote d’ Iviore first on the weekend of April 18-20 before the return leg in Sapele on April 26.

Bayelsa vow to fight to the finish

Bayelsa United have warned their second round CAF Confederation Cup foes, How Mine of Zimbabwe to be prepared to fight till the very end when both teams clash in the second round, first leg tie on March 22nd in Harare.

The Restoration Boys defeated Kondzo of Republic of Congo 2-0 on aggregate in the first round before setting up the tie with the Southern African side and the Nigerians have assured that they would ensure they return to Nigeria unscathed after the first leg.

The Media Officer of the Yenagoa side, George Ameli told SportingLife that the club would be ready to halt the impressive run of the team when they do battle next week.

How Mine beat Chuoni of Zanzibar (6-1) and Seychelles’ St Michel United (6-4) in the earlier rounds and have the prestige of playing the first leg at home where they have scored nine goals from just two matches.

Despite the team’s good home display, Bayelsa United’s spokesman said that they would be prepared for the first leg tie so as to ensure that they do not join the bandwagon of clubs that lost against How Mine away from their comfort zone.

“We know how vicious How Mine can be based on their antecedents in the competition. We heard they beat their opponents 4-1 and 5-1 in that order in their last two home matches in the competition. We won’t brag about what we can do but we will ensure we do not lose in Harare so that we can get the fixture decided when the second leg comes up at Sapele.”

Late arrival cost us victory – Bayelsa ace

Bayelsa United forward Uche Ihuarulam has told MTNFootball.com fatigue caused by their late arrival in Congo denied them victory in a CAF Confederation Cup tie against AS Kondzo.

The Nigerian club held hosts Kondzo to a goalless draw after they arrived barely 12 hours to the match on Friday due to late release of cash for the trip.

“The late arrival affected us but we just fought hard to maintain our country’s name and image, as well project our club Bayelsa United in good light,” Ihuarulam told MTNFootball.com.

“We played well and we would have won if not for the stress of the journey that tell on us on the pitch. We still thanl God for the draw.

“We knew went very late and people will not be expecting a good result from us due to fatigue, so we decided to go extra mile and get a favourable result.”

Bayelsa, who were drawn bye in the preliminary round of the competition, will host Konzo in the return leg match next Saturday in Sapele.

Bayelsa Utd can shock FC Konzo, says Bosso

    • Backs Bubagha to lead team

NEW Technical Adviser of Abia Warriors, Ladan Bosso believes Bayelsa United can do well in this weekend’s CAF Confederation Cup second round first leg clash against FC Konzo of DR Congo if the team is properly managed and in the right frame of mind.

Bosso dumped Bayelsa United to join Abia Warriors last week.

The former Flying Eagles coach told SportingLife that the recruitment he made for the team before he left is best for the continental engagement.

He added that the boys must be in a positive mind to get deserving result in Congo.

“By any standard the current squad is the best any team can have for the continental assignment. I must say that the team needs to be managed well and the boys must have a positive mind to get results. I don’t doubt that they will do well in Congo,” Bosso told SportingLife.

“The recruitment we did was best for continental engagement. We have some experienced players who have played continental games among the new players. Mutiu Adegoke played Champions League with Enyimba so also Olufemi Adebayo who has played at highest level including World cup. Sammuel Esuenyen and Okechukwu Gabriel have played in the continent too. Gabriel was part of CHAN Eagles in South Africa. So if they play in the good atmosphere they will deliver.”

The former Wikki Tourists of Bauchi has also advised the club’s management to allow his assistant coach Richard Bubagha to continue leading the team, stressing that any attempt to bring in new coach may destabilise the team build up.

“I think Bubagha is ripe to lead the team. He was part of recruitment exercise and we achieved everything together last season. He knows the terrain and he has the experience as well. I don’t think there is need to bring new coach for the club. This is the kind of situation that happened when I left Kano Pillars, the sorted for my advice and I told them that they should allow Mohammed Baba Ganaru to lead the team which they did. The rest is history today and Ganaru delivered, winning Glo League back to back with Pillars. What Bubagha need is the support of the management and cooperation of players. He will deliver.”
