Bayelsa United highest scorer, Peter Ebimobowei has rued the three games he had to miss for personal reasons.

The scorer of eight league goals has, however, assured that he would champion the Restoration Boys’ cause to upset Sunshine Stars at the Akure Township Stadium on Wednesday.

The player returned to Yenagoa on Saturday during his club’s 2-0 home victory over ABS and he has revealed that he was humbled by the standing ovation given to him by the fans and supporters of Bayelsa United immediately he was noticed at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa.

“I am back after missing three games. I have missed my colleagues and I can’t wait for the away tie against Sunshine Stars on Wednesday. I was expecting to increase my goal account but my unavoidable absence made me to lose the opportunity.

“I will like to tell you that I was received with honour and class on Saturday when I got to the stadium. Our fans and supporters were happy to see me. I was told I was the only name on their lips immediately the game started when they didn’t see my name on the squad list. I am ready to repay their trust with a good performance at Akure on Wednesday,” Ebimobowei explained to SportingLife.

He has helped his Yenagoa based club to the second spot on the league table with 45 points from 27 matches.

ABS have down-played the assertion that Bayelsa United are a stronger force than they are ahead of both sides’ 2013 Federation Cup Round of 32 encounter billed for the Sam Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City on Wednesday.

Bayelsa United were past winners of the premier league, a feat they achieved in 2009 even before the formation of the Saraki Boys but the Ilorin outfit’s Technical Adviser, Kabiru Sulaiman Dogo, has stated that only 90 minutes would decide the tie in Benin.

“We are also a big club as well. Bayelsa United may have won the league in the past and even achieved other accolades but they all belong to the past while the present says they are a new club to the elite division.

“We shall be ready for them again. We have beaten them once during the Week 7 league clash which ended 2-0 in our favour. We can still repeat similar result. We shall go to Benin and play the game of our lives to ensure we progress to the next round,” Dogo told SportingLife.

ABS were beaten in the early round of the competition last year but coach Dogo has assured that the club would go as far as possible this term.

Heartland are the cup holders after they defeated Lobi Stars 2-1 in last year’s final.
