    • Pick Calabar as second option

Bayelsa United will embark on two weeks camping in Ijebu-Ode ahead of the Glo Premier League, SportingLife can reveal.

The club’s Technical Adviser, Ladan Bosso told SportingLife that the Restoration Boys will arrive in Ijebu-Ode on Sunday for the training exercise.

The former Kano Pillars manager revealed further that the training session will start on Monday.

Bosso said the choice of Ijebu-Ode is as a result of its two beautiful synthetic pitches in the South-West state and the good grass stadium to train with.

“Ijebu-Ode is a lovely state for any club to camp for pre-season. There are two nice synthetic pitches with good training facilities. There is choice of grass pitch stadium too. So you can choose anywhere to train in Ijebu-Ode,” Bosso told SportingLife.

“Apart from that, Ijebu-Ode has football loving people who can give you good atmosphere to train. We hope to have good preparation there.”

Bosso said the team has picked Calabar Stadium as second option in case the club changes its mind to camp in another palace aside from Ijebu-Ode.

“Calabar is plan B because our intention is to camp in Ijebu-Ode.”

    Bosso targets Super Four tournament

Bayelsa United coach, Ladan Bosso has described as not a-must-win the annual Super Four tournament due to kick off on January 24 in Abuja.

The football showpiece is meant to prepare the nation’s flag bearers on the continent namely Kano Pillars, Enyimba, Bayelsa United and Warri Wolves for their various competitions this year.

Kano Pillars and Enyimba will campaign in the CAF Champions League while the duo of Bayelsa United and Warri Wolves will take part in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Bosso said the tournament is not a must win but an opportunity for his team to demonstrate its preparedness to represent the country proudly at the African cadre.

“The Super Four tournament is a demonstration of good intention by the League Management Company (LMC) to keep in perfect shape the continental teams.

“Bayelsa United won’t see the tournament as a-must-win but as an occasion to showcase our ability to represent Nigeria well on the continent.

“We’ll at the weekend head to Kaduna to participate in the pre-season football competition involving the likes of Kaduna United, Enyimba, Rangers, Gombe United, Nasarawa United, among others.

“The pre-season event will be good for us and will put us in good shape and frame of mind for the Super Four as we intend to head straight to Abuja from Kaduna for the clash.

“We sacrificed our New Year holidays in camp to continue our intense build-up for the new season,” said the former Kano Pillars coach to supersport.com.

CAF CONFEDERATION CUP DRAW: ‘Bayelsa United fear no foe’

Bayelsa United’s spokesman, George Ameli has said the Yenagoa side have nothing to fear from Republic of Congo’s Kondzo or a yet-to-be named Cameroon opponent in the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Bayelsa United finished third in the Globacom Premier League and secured a bye to the first round of the second tier African club competition alongside 10 other clubs including fellow compatriots, Warri Wolves.

Ameli in a chat with SportingLife said the club was already prepared for the preliminary round of the competition before they got the news that they had been drawn bye to the first round without kicking a ball.

He said they would await the winner of the clash involving Kondzo of the Republic of Congo and an opponent from Cameroon to know their first round foes.

“We are ready for any team and we are prepared. We even thought we would start playing from the preliminary round before we got the notice that we have been drawn bye. We are waiting for our opponents from either Cameroon or Congo. We are not afraid of them,” Ameli told SportingLife.

Bayelsa United brace up for African challenge

CAF Confederations Cup campaigners, Bayelsa United will carry out the necessary upgrade on their stadium ahead of the planned visit by officials of Confederation of African football (CAF) who will be in town soon for facilities inspection.

Revealing the planned move to futaa.com in Warri, the Bayelsa Football Association chairman Hon. Gospel Ewa said all hands are on deck for a respectable outing.

According to the Bayelsa FA boss, aside the little work needed to be done on the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenegoa, the stadium is all ready for the African challenge ahead of them in the coming season.

“We are well prepared only that we still have some work to be done on our stadium and our facilities so it will be approved by CAF” Hon. Ewa stated

Bayelsa United who were described by many as the surprise package of 2012/13 League season having challenged for the title till the last day of action will be flying Nigeria’s flag in the CAF Confederations Cup having finished third on the log behind Kano Pillars and Enyimba in the final League standings.

    Kwara goalkeeper Yekeen joins Bayelsa

Ex-Nigeria youth international, Kazeem Yekeen has joined Bayelsa United ahead of the 2013/2014 Nigeria league season.

Goalkeeper Yekeen played for relegated Kwara United last season and told MTNFootball.com he has now agreed personal terms with the Yenegoa-based team.

“I am in Bayelsa United now, we have agreed terms. I am happy to be with the team. I am in Bayelsa for a new challenge and to achieve greatness,” he told MTNFootball.com

“I want to win the league and CAF Confederation Cup with this team and it is not beyond us.”

He said it was a difficult decision to quit Kwara United.

“I will miss the Kwara United fans. The team is a very good side who give young players time and chance to blossom. They take good care of players, but I have to go and face new challenge,” he said.

“They really supported me and I can’t forget the team because they make me who I am today.”

He joined Kwara United in 2009/2010 season.

  • Gbolahan claims Sunshine contact

Relegated 3SC striker Gbolahan Salami has said he has been contacted by former club Sunshine Stars ahead of next season.

The Akure club have now joined the likes of Bayelsa United, Warri Wolves and Enyimba who wish to sign the Shooting Stars forward.

“Sunshine’s team manager has called asking me to play for them, but I told him I cannot decide on my own as I have to discuss this with my manager, who knows the best for me,” Salami informed MTNFootball.com.

The former Nigeria U-20 star further said he will rejoin Shooting Stars training on Monday as ordered by new coach Franklin Howard.

“I am still loyal to my club 3SC and so I will resume training with them for the new season because I am still their player and will rather wait till things work out,” he said.

  • Clubs scramble for Rangers ace Chibuikem

Clubs scramble for Rangers ace Chibuikem

Champions Pillars, Bayelsa United and Sunshine Stars are among the clubs after Rangers striker Meshack Chibuikem ahead of the new season.

Chibuikem, who joined Rangers mid-season on loan from Egyptian club Smouha Alexandria, scored four goals including the winner against El Kanemi on the final day of the action this past season.

He came off the bench to cash in on a defensive blunder to score the match winner, which he dedicated to his late mother, who he had buried a day earlier.

“I will take my time before I take a decision on my future. It’s possible I could stay at Rangers if they come up with a good offer,” the 23-year-old Chibuikem told MTNFootball.com.

Pillars, Bayelsa United, El-Kanemi are favourites •Glo Premier League ends in photo finish

After 370 games in 37 match days in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) with 750 goals scored averaging two goals per game, the title race is now down to just three teams – champions Kano Pillars, Bayelsa United and El-Kanemi Warriors.

When the season began, Enyimba,Kano Pillars and Enugu Rangers started like title contenders but along the line, Enyimba experienced tremendous resurgence but the quest of the Aba club for a record seventh title only lasted for 37 match days.

Today, one of Kano Pillars, Bayelsa United and El-Kanemi Warriors will be crowned champions of Nigeria for the 2012/13 season. But Pillars look more likely to retain the title since they already have 63 points and are also playing away against Lobi like the two other contenders.

Lobi Stars vs Kano Pillars (Emmanuel Atongo Stadium)

Kano Pillars have not taken a point in their last nine away games. The last time the champions earned a point on the road was on June 8 at Dolphins.

Lobi will take no chances in seeing off Pillars in this as they are in a race for survival. In the last two seasons, the Kano club have lost by identical scorelines of 0-1 in this corresponding fixture.

    Prediction: 2-0

Enugu Rangers vs El-Kanemi Warriors (Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium)

El-Kanemi remain the surprise team of the season irrespective of what followers of the league say about their home form. They’ve also put up a decent run on the road too. But this is where the fairy tale run ends for the Warriors. El-Kanemi do not have a good record in Enugu as they’ve lost in their last three previous without scoring a goal. Though Rangers are playing for pride, I don’t think they’ll show El-Kanemi any favour.

    Prediction: 2-0

Gombe United vs Bayelsa United (Pantami Stadium)

Bayelsa United go into this game needing an outright win to stand any chance of edging Kano Pillars for the title. But the town of Gombe has not been a fruitful centre for the Restoration Boys who have lost in all four previous trips. The Bayelsa club are always capable of pulling off surprises but this time that may not happen as they will have to contend with the impressive Gombe United trio of Babangida Ibrahim, Habibu Inusa and Sani Mohammed.

    Prediction: 2-0

Enyimba vs Sharks (Enyimba Stadium; live on SS9)

Six-time champions Enyimba will be disappointed that they blew their chance of winning the double this season after their shambolic display in Akure against Sunshine Stars in mid-week. But they’ve got the chance to finish in second place and win a CAF Champions League spot and at the same time protect their run of not conceding at home this season.

Gbenga Ogunbote has proven that he is a miracle worker after securing top flight football for Sharks against all odds. But can the Blue Angels breach the steely back line of Enyimba in Aba on the final day? I would say ‘NO.’

    Prediction: 1-0

Nasarawa United vs Heartland (Lafia Township Stadium)

Heartland will again keep their top flight status for more than three decades as they head to Lafia to face the Solid Miners who are in dire need of the full points to escape the drop to the lower division.

Nasarawa United last defeated Heartland in a league match in February 2008 and that same year lost three-nil to the Owerri club in this corresponding fixture. But that may not count this time as League’s top scorer Victor Namo, Habu Mohammed, Solomon Babatunde, Malachy Ilo and company are expected to cause Heartland problems on the day.

    Prediction: 3-0

Nembe City vs Sunshine Stars (Samson Siasia Stadium)

Nembe City have a huge task to turn around their very inferior goal difference to escape the drop in spite of playing hosts to Sunshine Stars today. After their 1-6 drubbing in the hands of ABS in mid-week, Nembe City will surely return to winning ways against Sunshine Stars who have managed to take just three points on the road this season.

But its doubtful if the win for City can save them from the fall though and that will depend on the outcome of other results involving eight other clubs in the battle for survival.

    Prediction: 2-0

Warri Wolves vs ABS (Warri City Stadium)

The Seasiders have lost their last three league games to 3SC, Akwa United and Bayelsa United and it’s possible for them to end the season with four straight losses.ABS players know what is at stake in this game as a loss could signal an end to their time in the NPFL.

ABS have not beaten Wolves since a 1-0 win in January 2011. Kabiru Dogo’s men will up their game to avoid losing twice to Wolves this season after a two-nil loss in the reverse fixture.

    Prediction: 0-1

Kaduna United vs 3SC (Kaduna United)

What is left of 3SC’s season is a mathematical chance of survival if Kwara United, Wikki Tourists, Nasarawa United, Lobi Stars and Nembe City, all on 49 points, fail to win or draw and they defeat Kaduna United.

Realistically 3SC’s season looks over especially with Kaduna United sitting in 14th spot and just a point above the drop zone. The Crocodiles would do everything to avoid dropping points in this game as keeping their top flight place will be paramount to them. Sadly 3SC will be relegated.

    Prediction: 3-1

Kwara United vs Akwa United (Confluence Stadium)

It might sound strange but this game could be the pick of the match day as both teams battle it out in this dogfight at the foot of Mount Patti in Lokoja. The losers of this clash could find themselves relegated to the Nigeria National League (NNL).

It’s amazing that Kwara United find themselves battling for survival after putting up eye-catching outings especially in the first round of this season. This game would quite a contest but Kwara United will edge Akwa United for the full points.

    Prediction: 2-1

Dolphins vs Wikki Tourists (Liberation Stadium)

As poor as Dolphins have been this season it won’t be a surprise if they win this encounter.

Wikki are confirmed for the drop though they hold a three-game unbeaten run going to this clash.

    PREDICTION: 1-0

    • Warns the Blue Angels from misleading Nigerians

Bayelsa United have picked holes at Sharks’ claim that they allegedly used dubious means to get maximum points in their matchday 29 Glo Premier League played last Sunday at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa.

The Restoration Boys got their only goal through Peter Ebomobowei’s first half effort but the Blue Angels’ media officer, Peter Abaje in a chat alleged the win was aided by the centre referee.

In a reaction, the media officer of Bayelsa United, George Ameli said Sharks were wrong with report credited to them on the match and thus set the record straight in a chat with SportingLife.

“We never achieved our result against Sharks through dubious means as alleged by them. The initial penalty and the one retook because of encroachment were good call. The match tape of the game will clear the air and I am ready to show it to you.

“Their goalkeeper did not save the second spot-kick as claimed it hit and came out off the upright and the only goal of the match scored by Emobomei was from a goalmouth scramble. He got it through his head and not hand.

“Let Sharks concentrate on their remaining matches and stop chasing shadows over the game they already lost. We beat them without no question mark. They should stop misleading Nigerians with their fabricated lies,” Ameli told SportingLife.

Rabiu Ali’s goal for Kano Pillars in a rescheduled Glo Premier League tie played yesterday meant that Bayelsa United fell to second on the log with 49 points while Pillars are on top with 51 points from as many games.

Bosso warns players: Don’t over celebrate

Bayelsa United Technical Adviser, Isa Ladan Bosso has cautioned his wards on the danger of losing concentration following their hard earned goalless draw against Sunshine Stars in a week 28 Globacom Premier League match at Akure Township Stadium on Thursday.

The draw against Akure Gunners on Thursday moved the Restoration Boys to the apex of the League with 46 points.

The former Flying Eagles manager told SportingLife that only hard work and determination can help them to achieve their set target.

“My players must not over celebrate the draw against Sunshine Stars because the journey is still far. It is only hard work, determination and total concentration that can lead us to our deserved destiny,” Bosso told SportingLife.

“I think we are now in the best position to get something for our sponsor (state government) to show appreciation for their moral and financial support. We thank the management and our fans for believing in us.”

Speaking on the match against Sunshine, the former Kano Pillars coach said: “Our tactics worked for us. I sympathised with Sunshine Stars because we met them at home at a time when my boys were in their best form. I just hope and pray that they maintain that form.

“I thank Akure fans for their support on Thursday. Akure is my second home and I hardly lose a match in Akure, even when Wikki Tourists was banished from Bauchi in 2006 I chose Akure for our home matches’ venue and I enjoyed all the support from Akure fans.

“We are at the top now and we want to concentrate on that,”he said.
