  • DEBIE-RISE AND I PLAN TO MAKE MONEY, TRAVEL TOGETHER –BBNAIJA EVICTEE BASSEY EKPEYONG

DEBIE-RISE AND I PLAN TO MAKE MONEY, TRAVEL TOGETHER –BBNAIJA EVICTEE BASSEY EKPEYONG

Big Brother Naija house, evicted housemate Bassey Ekpeyong, in this interview with JOE AGBRO JR, explains why he refrained from romantic liaisons in the house and why he’ll  continue working with fellow housemate Debie-Rise. Excerpts

WHEN you were evicted, you left the Big Brother House so swiftly. Did you know you were going to be evicted?

Of course not, I wasn’t expecting to leave the house but I had planned for the worst while hoping for the best. I wasn’t expecting the best. Okay, if I leave the house, what am I going to do, how am I going to react? So, I had all those things in thought. I had my though process wrapped around the reality.

And you were smiling all through. Internally, were you really happy or was the smile just a front?

Well, sincerely, the kind of person I am, I’m a very positive person and I always try to see the good in every situation. At that point in time, I was very confident in myself that ‘okay, I have come here and I have achieved all that I wanted to achieve, show myself to Africa, show myself to Nigeria as someone who can do things as many as possible. So to me, that was me winning. So, I may not have won the N25 million but I won my own competition and that was why I was smiling because I had already let everything I had out. So, I was smiling because I was satisfied that I had achieved that.

You were without internet and your phone throughout your stay in the house. Who was the first person you called when you left the house?

The first person I called was my elder brother and I told him, “yes oo, I don carry my phone now. Oya, let’s start talking.”

You’ve been outside the house and you’ve been running things. so far, Nigeria has seen you, Africa has seen you. What have you gained? Any endorsements?

Well, a few companies have approached me for endorsements and my management team has been working hand in hand with these companies to draft out a good agreement. So yes, there are some endorsements in view. I really appreciate Nigerians for even appreciating the little I had to offer.

Would you like to name some of the companies?

Well, Pay Porte actually has something for me and it is in view. And hopefully before the end of June, we should see something coming from that angle. And the other companies do not want to be mentioned until the deal is done.

In your interview immediately after you left the house, you talked about having a girlfriend. How did your girlfriend take all your acts in the house?

Well, you know how it is. She was slightly jealous that I did one or two things in the house but nothing a few pieces of pizza and ice cream couldn’t solve (laughs).

Up till last Sunday, Debie-Rise sang you a birthday song and you confessed that you really liked her. If you weren’t already committed with a girlfriend outside, would you have had a relationship with her?

Well, never say never. But the reality is I have a girlfriend outside so I wouldn’t want to do anything that negates the commitment I have. However, Debie-Rise and I have grown to become very close and this is a friendship I believe will stand the test of time as we have plans of making money together, visiting places together. So, Debie-Rise is very very great friend and I appreciate her for that.

But she doesn’t know you have a girlfriend outside, does she?

Oh, she knows. I laid my cards out on the table. Everybody in the house, everybody in Nigeria knows.

You also said in the interview that some of the ladies were trying to get to you but you held back. Now Nigerians watched what happened in the Jacuzzi, kissing sessions and some Nigerians even criticised BBN as being immoral. What were really happening in the house?

Well, nothing over the tops happened. The few times those things happened was when we had the ‘Kissing Festival’ and then we would task each other to kiss each other. And that was about the only thing that happened. So, I’m sure Nigerians understand.

T-Boss became the most nominated housemate for eviction, yet some of the males crushed on her. Did you?

Yeah, I particularly find T-Boss attractive and I said that right from the first day I stepped into the house. And that hasn’t changed. I may not have physically interpreted my likeness for her but I I found her attractive and over time, we became close enough and friends. And then, I related to her on a purely friendship basis. Yeah, I find her attractive but nothing erotic could come out of that.

It’s curious but with ladies wanting you, why didn’t you yield for any of them?

Because the reality is that we don’t have that kind of time to build on anything concrete. And then, you cannot be pressured by the attention of other people to fall into something you do not intend to further, which is why I decided to be friends with basically everybody.

And then, you don’t know who is leaving the next Sunday. So, you don’t want to start something now and then end up losing the next Sunday or even stay till the end and end up coming outside and become another break-up story. So, for me, friendship is a hard currency. And I decided to build on the fact that I could make friends who would last long enough for me. And that was what I was doing exactly in the Big Brother house.

Now that you’re outside the house, what did you realise you missed the most?

Men, I missed my phone and I missed my family.

The show is ending on Sunday, who are you tipping to win?

Well, I would like Debie-Rise to win, quite sincerely.

  • BBNAIJA: POLITICIANS, FANS UP THE STAKES

TODAY makes it a day to the end of the second edition of the Big Brother reality show targeted at Nigerians. With five remaining housemates, the race will be over by 7pm tomorrow when a winner will be crowned. It will end and one of Efe, T-Boss, Debie-Rise, Bisola or Marvis will win N25m, an SUV and other goodies to follow. That these young Nigerians have put up an entertaining show is beyond dispute. But they will need massive votes and on Thursday, they had their last chance to campaign for votes. Outside the house, the battle for votes has caught the attention of fans and politicians, including some state governors who are putting their resources to vote their favourite housemates.

When 14 Nigerians were housed in a South African building competing in the Nigerian version of the global franchise, Big Brother Naija, naturally sparks could happen and throughout, it has been a case of ‘one day, one drama.’ While Nigerians asked why a show about Nigerians was taking place in South Africa? The producers gave valid reasons as stable power as responsible for the show being taken to SA. It won.

And Nigerians finally settled to enjoy the show. Starting with 12 housemates aged between 23 and 36 drawn from different walks of life, the controversy of strangers living together without distractions of modern life to recourse to started.

With the house full, the housemates got to know each other and there was no eviction in the first two weeks. By this time, the housemates had started finding loved and some couples started forming. The game had begun. Given the basics of life – food, shelter and clothing – and without phones, internet, television or radio, the housemates had themselves to contend with. Their favourite pastime was playing Whot and ‘Truth or Dare’ (which revealed a lot), especially after they had drunk alcohol. And to add to the intrigues, two new housemates – Bassey and Debbie-Rise were later added to the house.

After two weeks, Miyonse and Soma were evicted and after the third week, Coco Ice was let out of the house, having scored the least votes from viewers. This was a day before she had let Bassey suck her boobs after a ‘truth or dare’ game. Week in week out, the intrigues went up as housemates were evicted one after the other, remaining the top five.

In the early days, the Jacuzzi sessions and a kissing festival ensued many of the housemates shared erotic moments. Certain Nigerians felt the show had too much sexual content and didn’t portray Nigerian values and should be scrapped. Through newspaper, television, radio and online reports, these Nigerians, including a lawmaker, asked the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation to censor the show. Of course, nothing came out of the request. DSTv already rated the show a Parental Guidance (PG).

And with the votes trooping for their various housemates, it was certain the Nigerians’ interest in the show was rising. A viral message went around stating that by a fortnight ago, over 11, 000, 000 votes were recorded, signifying a definite interest in the show.

#BBNaija: Who takes home the Prize?

With just two days to end the game, the race to the highly coveted prize money of a whooping N25,000,000 and an SUV has intensified. Following the eviction of the smooth operator – Bally, the “trophy” is within the grasp of the remaining housemates. However, the probability of winning for each of the housemates is 1:5…not a bad one I must say!

The heavily criticised but overwhelmingly entertaining reality show is one that has witnessed several melodramas from the different housemates: From Ese and John being branded “fake housemates” before their eventual eviction, Gifty’s denial of ever knowing Banky W while in the house and the grey areas concerning her marital status, Kemen’s disqualification from the house after massaging and “kemening” Tboss while she was asleep (asleep?, hmmm…only God knows oh!),  ThinTallTony’s fake but glaringly sensual and carnal affair with Bisola in the house, Bassey’s shocking announcement of having a girlfriend after his eviction, and lastly, Bally’s merit award of being the “master kisser”; having kissed all the female housemates before his eviction.

Kudos must be given to all the evicted housemates who have been so wonderful in participating in the show.  Our shout out goes to – John, Ese, Gifty, Miyonse, Soma, Cocoice, Uriel, Kemen, Thintall Tony, Bassey and Bally…We hail thee!

It is believe that any credit gotten in the house will not count when it comes to knowing who will go home with the grand prize as the reality of the impending grand finale quickly crawls upon the housemates; only the person with the highest number of votes will eventually win the prize.

A lot of interesting stories are unfolding in every city as we draw closer to the final few days of the reality show.

BBNaija has simply captivated and more or less mesmerised its audience across Africa, most prominently Nigeria where a lot of people have stood up to campaign for their housemate to win the money bag.

Recently there has been a lot of exciting moments in the heart of BBNaija fans as people of high personality in Nigeria stood up to campaign for their favorite housemate.

Efe who is branded as the man of the moment “based on his logistics instinct” has received a lot of support from Nigerian celebrities campaigning for him and also his people from Warri rallying around to secure votes for their man.

Comedian bright okpocha popularly known as Basket mouth took to his Instagram page to campaign for him. Other celebrities in support of Efe are YBNL Boss Olamide, Ice prince Zamani, I go die, popular Nollywood actress Funke Akindele a.k.a Jenifa also shows her love and support for Efe.

TBoss got the support of Uti Nwachukwu, Linda Ikeji, Adekunle Gold, Linda Ejiofor, Beverly Osu, Ex BBA Africa winners – Dillish and Idris, Ex-BBA housemate – Maria, Nollywood actress – Ivie Okujaye, Beverly Naya, Bob risky, Mike Godson and more.

Bisola got the support of Iyanya, Mofe Duncan, Padita Agu. Also, her sister was recently pictured sharing recharge cards to Unilag students as a way of campaigning for her sister.

Marvis also get her supports from the Rivers state government as a way of mobilizing people to vote for their own child.

Lastly, Debbie-rise was also rumoured to have gathered supports from Kogi state government.

The SUV and N25m up for grabs by the “fantastic five” housemates, the big question now is: Who are you casting your vote for?

  • ##BBNaija Day 74: Tboss becomes head of house

##BBNaija Day 74: Tboss becomes head of house

Tboss, one of the housemates of the on-going Big Brother Nigeria (#BBNaija) TV reality show has been `crowned’ the new head of house (HoH) for a day.

She was crowned by Marvis, who got the crown on Wednesday as part of the new rule by “Biggie”” owner of the house stating that all the housemates take turns to wear the crown this week.

Tboss’ crowning comes after a “fight’’ with her ally, DebieRise over her (Tboss) inability to sing the National Anthem during a truth or dare game on Wednesday night.

DebbieRise was the first housemate to benefit from the crown rotation when she was chosen as Head of House by Bisola on Tuesday.

Tboss had expressed her sadness last week after the Head of House task over her inability to win any arena game or task since the show started.

She has come under heavy scrutiny from the public since her involvement in the disqualification of former housemate, Kemen who was accused of sexually assaulting her.

Tboss who has been up for eviction four times has proven to be one of the most emotional housemates as she breaks down in tears at any slight provocation.

The Head of House crown will continue to rotate round the remaining five housemates till the show ends on Sunday, April 9, 2017.

The top five housemates competing for the grand prize of N25 million and a Kia Sorrento SUV are Bisola, Efe, Marvis, Debie-Rise and Tboss

  • Politicians join the craze, as BBNaija reaches peak

Politicians join the craze, as BBNaija reaches peak

In January when the second edition of Big Brother Naija reality TV show kicked off, it was greeted with apprehension from certain quarters. One of the criticisms was that it is being recorded in faraway South Africa.

However, few weeks later, the show began to whip up sentiments.

The first outcry was the fact that a country as large as Nigeria, with all its resources and manpower, could not muster the wherewithal to host the show.

That dust was yet to settle when the organisers were again hit with a petition to the National Broadcasting Commission, calling for the stoppage of the show.

However, indications that some politicians are fans of the show emerged when one of the strong contenders for the top prize, Kemen, was booted out of the house.

Kemen was said to have been disqualified from the game for fondling his co-housemate, TBoss without her consent.

Against the general perception, the sacking of Kemen proved to Nigerians that the Big Brother Naija competition stood for something.

Prior to his disqualification, a billboard canvassing votes for Kemen emerged in his home state, Akwa Ibom State.

From then on, the popularity rating of the show shot up and people began to show more interest such that even the speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Onofiok Luke shared a thought on Kemen’s disqualification.

He wrote: “Many who before now had celebrated Kemen are in a hurry to crucify him for his mistake(s).

“My take here is not to hold brief for Kemen and whatever he might have done to merit his disqualification (which I am yet to know) but to reflect on how difficult it is to be in the spotlight in our clime –the fear of failing–the fear of making mistakes–the fear of mockery and the most dreaded of them all –the fear of Inua Uyo. We are all humans and are all prone to mistakes but when we are not the affected, we engage sanctimonious disposition that tends to confer sainthood…”

With barely a few days to the end of the show, it has transmogrified into a battle of the tribes.

The buzz is no longer about where the show is being held or its morality; it is now a question of who wins it.

Back home, Nigerians are taking a stand for their favourite finalists consisting of Bisola, TBoss, Debie-Rise, Marvis and Efe.

The Rivers State Ministry of Culture and Tourism, for instance, is drumming support for its candidate, Marvis Nkpornwi who hails from Onne, Eleme in Rivers State.

“By the special grace of god, she has moved to the final stage in the Big Brother Naija House competition. Let us give her all the support she needs to make Rivers State proud,” a statement by Michael Ejiohuo, Permanent Secretary for Hon. Commissioner reads.

It the same vein, it was said that Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, is campaigning for Debie-Rise who hails from that State.

#BBnaija update: Marvis spins to victory

Biggie had earlier tasked the HoH for the day, Debie-Rise to inform her fellow Housemates to each graffiti a pair of trousers. Where and how they would use them, was something Biggie said would be revealed after they had completed the Task. The Housemates got right into it and it was after a little while that it seemed they had finished working on their trousers.

Biggie then called them into the Arena and they were told to wear the trousers, in readiness for the next Task, the Spin Race.

For this Task, the Housemates had to first spin a couple of times, using an iron rod placed on their forehead, then run to fetch a tennis ball and run back to the finish line with the ball, either in between their knees, thighs or feet and drop it in a bowl. At the end of round one, Debi-Rise was the first Housemate to be disqualified. TBoss was disqualified at the end of round two.

Biggie said it was because she used her hands, which was against the rules. Bisola and Efe were disqualified too at the next round, leaving Marvis as the winner.

After the Task, TBoss confided in Debie-Rise, saying she was saddened by the fact that she was disqualified.

She was in tears in no time. They played out what had happened a couple of times, with TBoss blaming herself for her loss. “Why did I do something stupid?” she said.

Debei-Rise tried her hardest to console her and convince her that it was only a game and somebody had to win. It seemed Debie-Rise’s words fell on deaf ears, as TBoss continued to beat herself up and it was only a bit later that they changed the topic.

#BBNaija: Show’s 5 Top finalists thank Nigerians for voting

Big Brother Nigeria (#BBNaija) 2017 five top finalists have expressed gratitude to viewers for their votes in the ongoing TV reality show which has entered its final week.

The show which started on January 22, generated 11 million votes from viewers during the April 2 eviction show.

Bisola, Tboss, DebbieRise, Marvis and Efe the last man standing, took turns to bear their minds during their diary sessions on Monday evening with `Biggie’, owner of the house.

DebbieRise said that the last week in the house was different from the others calling it exciting and positive.

She said it was her discipline and compassion that brought her this far adding that she would give her best to ensure she took home the grand prize.

The guitar girl mentioned her friend, Tboss as her main competition, “because she is an amazing, caring, beautiful and homely person and she has everything it takes to win.

Another housemate, Bisola said the mood in the house was calm adding that everyone felt a strong sense of relief and accomplishment after making it to the last week.

She stressed that they (Five finalists) are winners in respective of who emerges the winner on Sunday April 9.

Bisola recounted how she had auctioned for Big Brother countless times and smiled broadly when she was picked to participate in the ongoing series adding, “I don suffer for this life and I really don’t want to go back to that.”

Marvis on the other hand thanked and appreciated Biggie for the experience and that she was going to miss everything.

She said Bisola though a friend, remain her toughest competition; she also said she was grateful for the opportunity to be in the show which according to her has fast track her career in showbiz as an actress.

Tboss on her part said Big Brother had made her a fighter and that she was realising what it takes to be a fighter.

She said Marvis was her biggest threat in the game.

Efe, the only man among four ladies said he had a fighter’s spirit and added that Bisola was his biggest threat.

He also commended her (Bisola) for being a competitive, honest and outspoken person just like he is.

Earlier, the housemate had hosted Nigerian popular song writer, singer and performer, David Adeleke.

He came with ‘sushi’ and champagne in tow to pay the housemates a visit.

The usual tour of the house was done before everyone settled down in the dining area and popped open the bottle of champagne.

Davido discussed the merits of being true to oneself and pointed out that he made more money in mere months than he had made over the years after deciding to go local and champion his course.

He asked the housemates what they planned to do with the N25 million naira after winning.

Bisola said she would like to go to a film school.

While Debie-Rise and Efe said they would want to push their music career to the next level, Tboss revealed that if she won, she would like to have her own talk show.

Marvis who was a protocol officer at an oil and gas company before coming to the house said she would like to open a bar.

After listening to them, the self acclaimed ‘Omo Baba Lowu’ told them that no matter what their dreams were, it was imperative that they make careful choices and not get overwhelmed.

According to him, if overwhelmed they would wake wake up and not realise where the money went.

“You make all these plans and then when the money comes, its different; I spent one million dollars in three months.”

At that point the buzzer sounded and everyone said their goodbyes.

The winner will take home the grand prize of 25 million naira and a Kia Sorrento SUV.

  • #BBNaija Day 72: DebbieRise becomes head of house

#BBNaija Day 72: DebbieRise becomes head of house

DebbieRise, one of the housemates of the on-going Big Brother Nigeria (#BBNaija) TV reality show on Tuesday was ‘crowned’ the new head of house (HoH) for a day.

The position of HoH was assumed by a winner of the weekly task as instructed by “Biggie’’, owner of the house.

DebbieRise was crowned the HoH by Bisola, the substantive head following a new rule by Biggie that the crown be passed among the housemates daily as the show comes to an end on Sunday, April 9.

DebbieRise who is a strong ally of fellow housemate Tboss is the first housemate chosen for this week.

This comes after her recent fight with Bisola over a game tournament in the house.

Biggie had given the housemates a task to create a game tournament and after setting it all up, DebbieRise pushed for a change in the rules which Bisola immediately opposed.

They had engaged in a heated argument resulting in DebbieRise calling Bisola “senseless” and asking her to “keep shut.’’

Bisola did not take it lightly as she retorted and rounded up by telling DebbieRise to close her ears and be deaf.

DebbieRise is popular among viewers for her attachment to her guitar, her relationship with one of the evicted housemate Bassey.

She had come close to winning the Ultimate HoH task; however, a triumphant Efe held his spelt words and was pronounced the HoH for the fourth time in the show.

Bisola became the head of house after she luckily picked the balloon with the title, ‘Head of House’ in it during the final Head of House task.

Aside Efe and Bisola, other former Heads of House include ex-housemates CocoIce and Uriel (who was crowned by Efe as a birthday gift).

Others include ThinTallTony (who was Head of House two times in a row), Bassey and fake housemate Ese who have all been evicted.

The top five finalists competing for the grand prize of 25 million naira and a Kia Sorrento SUV are Bisola, Tboss, DebbieRise, Marvis and Efe.

  • BBNaija: TBoss, Debie-Rise, Bally, Marvis up for eviction

BBNaija: TBoss, Debie-Rise, Bally, Marvis up for eviction

•Bisola saves rival, Efe from nomination

Tension returned to the Big Brother Naija house as Monday’s fresh nominations put TBoss, Debie-Rise, Bally, and Marvis up for eviction, just less than 24 hours after the trio of Bally, TBoss and Debbie-Rise narrowly escaped eviction.

The house also experienced a rare change in leadership as Bisola became victorious in this week’s head of house contest, after over 78 days of anticipation and several botched attempts at clinching the house leadership. She emerged top after winning the head of house contest. Bisola replaces Efe, who was the immediate past ultimate head of House and was unfortunately nominated for eviction but was saved by Bisola, the new queen of the house.

The nomination jolted some of the housemates who all have to sit back and re-think their strategies. For embattled Debie-Rise and TBoss, synergy appears to be the working strategy as both openly canvassed for voters’ support. Recall that both of them have been up for eviction back to back in the last two weeks.

TBoss got upset after taking a look at the eviction wall and realising she had been put up for possible eviction eight times and there are only two times she hasn’t been up.

Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, during last Sunday’s live eviction show, said, at least, one of the newly nominated housemates will have to go home by Sunday.

The next eviction show holds on Sunday, April 1, 2017.

Organisers have urged viewers to save their favorite housemates. In Nigeria, viewers are expected to text the word “Vote” followed by the housemate’s name to 32052. While for the rest of Africa, they are advised to follow the AfricaMagictv official account on WeChat and click on the menu option ‘BBNaija’ and select their preferred housemate.

The show is aired 24/7 in 45 countries from Nigeria through East, West and Southern Africa on DStv channel 198 and GOtv channel 29.

Big Brother Naija is sponsored by online retail store, PayPorte.
