Since the premiere of Big Brother Nigeria, last Sunday, drama has continued to flood TV screens with more intrigues in anticipation of what will happen next.

On Tuesday, Nina was first to strike gold as she was caught on camera while sharing an intimate moment with Miracle in the shower early in the morning.

In less than seven days, other housemates have joined in the fray.

Only yesterday, Princess tried to kiss Rico but was bundled into a swerve as Rico politely resisted her advances.

It should be recalled, however, that Bitto was recently summoned into the Diary room by big brother, after he touched Princess, and she wasn’t liking it.

Forcing several viewers to argue whether Princess could be forcing herself on Rico.

BBNaija: Meet the three housemates who made the first ‘imprint’

The game began in earnest for the 20 contestants who entered the Big Brother House on Sunday, and hitting the ground running was Tobi Bakre, a University of Lagos graduate, who became the first Head of House (HOH).

The next three months is that of a life full of expectations for the 20 contestants who, apart from the total package of N45million (N25million prize money, an SUV among other juicy offerings) will get the rare attention of the world.

Tobi appears to be having this first attention as winner of the tasks given to the contestants by ‘Biggie’. The HOH challenge was split into two; the first part was carried out on Sunday after the launch while the second part took on Monday.  After the fake eviction of the six housemates who could not get bed spaces, ‘Biggie’ announced the first task which involved padlocks.

The coordination skills of the housemates was put to test in the second task, with the mission of building a balloon tower in just 15 minutes. Tobi emerged as the winner, having built the tallest balloon tower of all.

As part of the treats for the title, ‘Biggie’ also invited `Kabiyesi’ Tobi to choose a housemate to share the lottery bedroom with. Cee-C volunteered to share in Tobi’s luxury.

Just as many though the first romance experience would start with this two, Miracle and Nina were the surprise, as the shared the first kiss in Big Brother Naija 2018 House.

They were seen sharing a passionate kiss in the shower, just before the camera could pan away.

Thus, Tobi, Miracle and Nina made the first imprint on this year’s BBNaija.

The much anticipated show kicked off on Sunday with 20 contestants – 10 males and 10 females – who made their first appearance during the opening live show in Johannesburg, South Africa, where they shared the spotlight with show host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu who prodded them on what they will be offering fans in the next three months.

The crowd of Nigerians in the studio, added pep to the night of expectations, as fans were eager to know which celebrity was among the contestants. Nonetheless, the 20, appeared all savvy and ready for the challenges ahead.

The third in the series, this year’s show parades names like Vandora from Edo State; Nina, 23 years old from Owerri, Imo State; Teddy A; and K Brule.

The first instruction from Ebuka was for each housemate to pick a number from the glass bowl. “Look for a bed that matches the number picked and wait for further information, “he said. Hence, the first set of four housemates who are reality show newbies walked into the house together.

After a short interval, the second set of four – Alex 22 years old; Dee-One who said he is in a serious relationship and portrayed some comic traits; Princess,  25 years old; Miracle who is ‘single and available’ – took their turn on stage.

Next was the third set of four. They include Bambam from Ogun State; Ahneeka; Rico Swavey and Bitto.

Ahneeka is ‘going to look for love in the house.’ She says love comes in different ways, and she is just ready to explore. Bambam wants to do everything possible to win, Rico is single and is from Jos, while Bitto who is wearing his mum’s wedding band says it helps him to stay focused.

The ceremony was spiced with music performances by Mayorkun and Kiss Daniel.

The fourth set of four who were introduced as young entrepreneurs include Khloe, a fashion designer; Ifu- Ennada who is looking for drama and madness; Angel, a male with an unusual name and Leo, who says he wants to build low cost housing for his people.

When Mayorkun returned, his hit song, ‘Che che’ made great interval, just as Kiss Daniel’s ‘Yeba’ got many dancing in the live studio, as he closed the show.

The last set of four includes Anto, Cee-C, Lolu, and Tobi.

Although a game of gradual elimination, it is not clear yet how many more housemates will join the show in the twists that are bound to follow.

Tagged ‘Double Wahala’, housemates are expected to showcase enviable personalities as proudly-Nigerian brands.

The three-month period of unscripted drama is being broadcast live to 45 countries from Nigeria through East, West and Southern Africa on DStv’s channel 198 and GOtv’s channel 29.

Nigeria’s online retail store, PayPorte has returned to the show as headline sponsors for the second time.

Tobi Bakre has been crowned the first Head of House in the on-going Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) 2018 reality show.

The head of house challenge was split into two; the first part was carried out on Sunday after the launch while the second part took place yesterday.

After the fake eviction of the six housemates who could not get bed spaces, ‘Biggie’ announced the first task which involved padlocks.

The “ninjas” had entered the house with locks and keys and each housemate was told to pick a key.

The two housemates who could open the locks won Sunday’s task to qualify for the next round of the Head of House tasks.

Ifu-Ennada, who opened the first padlock and Cee-C, who got the second one were asked to keep the keys and the padlocks for the next round of the task.

The coordination skills of the housemates was put to test in the second task, with the mission of building a balloon tower in just 15 minutes, which appeared to be fairly simple.

Passionate about photography and football, Tobi hopes to spend his cash prize on helping friends and acquiring properties should he emerge as the eventual winner of the show.

  • Abuja residents express views on return of BBNaija

Abuja residents express views on return of BBNaija

Some FCT residents have expressed divergent views following the recent announcement by M-Net West Africa of its commencement of the third season of its popular reality television show, Big Brother Naija (BBNaija).

BBNaija returns to TV screens on Jan. 28 after the final auditioning of the next batch of 12 Housemates, according to the BBNaija’s official page.

The residents who spoke with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja expressed their expectations and reservations on the show.

Mr. Anthony Ada-Abraham, Entertainment and Tourism Editor of Leadership Newspapers said, “many did not expect that the last edition which saw Efe from the hood clinching the ultimate price would be thrilling.

“This year, a movie producer friend of mine is also going for the show and I think it would be great to see him doing what he knows best.

“He is a great guy and I know if he gets into the house, he will surely win.

“However, I expect a lot of thrills, frills and scandals,’’ Ada-Abraham said.

An upcoming musical artiste, John Anzaku popularly known as ‘Jay Nelly’ said the show is an important platform for the development of youths and the entertainment industry.

He stressed that some of the previous participants and winners of the show were currently doing well in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

“Efe the 2017 winner was not known before the show, but after the show he has develop in his music career to the next level and doing well.

“Look at Miyonse, even when he was evicted after some weeks in the house, he still got cooking endorsement deals and a television show.

“More so, see Bisola, Debie-Rise, Tboss, Kemen and the others, they are all doing well today because they participated in the 2017 edition of the show,’’ Anzaku said.

Miss Maria Kigbu, a student of the Nasarawa State University who could not contain her excitement said: ‘I am so happy that the show is coming up later this month. In fact I can’t wait to start watching it.

“Last year was interesting. I believe this year will be better. I am so happy. I can’t wait to see the contestants and intrigues in the house,’’ Kigbu said.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Pepertua Obi, a civil servant and mother of four boys said that the show does not have any meaningful impact in the lives of the teeming youths in the country.

“When you say the show is a platform for the youth to showcase their talents, so after that what next?

“Some of them do not have any source of livelihood but they will be looking for money to recharge their phones and buy data to vote for their favourite housemates.

“Instead of this so called BBNaija show, they should channel the resources into talent hunt where youths will bring out the best talents in them to positively change the world,’’ Obi said.

BBNaija is a reality TV show where 12 contestants live in an isolated house and compete for a huge prize at the end of the show. Each participant avoids being evicted by viewers through votes.

The first season of the show was aired on DSTV from March 5 to June 4, 2006.

Its voting results are usually verified by the auditing company of Alexander-Forbes.

MultiChoice Nigeria, the leading Pay TV operator in the country, which announced the return of Africa’s biggest reality television show, said it will be sponsored by Payporte, Nigeria’s leading online store.

It said the return of the show is coming as a result of the success of the second edition where aspiring hip-hop artiste Efe Ejeba, won N25 million prize money and an SUV after almost three months of drama, intrigue, betrayal and entertainment in the Big Brother house.

Speaking on BBNaija return, the regional director, M-Net West Africa, Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu said: “Around the globe, the Big Brother format remains one of the most popular genres of entertainment and this is also the case in Nigeria.

She said that the edition of BBNaija was one of the most successful reality shows not just in Nigeria, but around the continent with a record number of votes and many of the housemates going on to pursue careers in entertainment.

“We are delighted to have the show return for a third edition and cannot wait for our audiences to once again tune in to experience all of the exciting entertainment that the show is sure to provide,” Mba-Uzoukwu said.

BBNaija 2018: Ex-housemates Miyonse, Kemen advise contestants

As the third edition of the Big Brother Naija (BBnaija) reality television show starts on January 28, ex-housemates have advised would-be contestants to exhibit positive attributes and exemplary qualities of themselves during the show.

The ex-housemates’ who were contestants in the second edition in 2017, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursdays in Abuja.

Ekemini Ekerete, also known as `Kemen’ advised the contestants to put up their utmost best and stay true to themselves in the house.

“Even when they feel their best is not good enough; they should keep their heads up, support each other and stay true to themselves,’’ Kemen stressed.

The ship manager-turn fitness entrepreneur who expressed optimism that the show would live up to expectation said that “Nigeria is a country blessed with resourceful and talented youths.’’

Similarly, Miyonse Oluwaseyi, popularly called `Miyonse’ expressed optimism that the 2018 edition would be bigger, exciting and showcase more talents.

“The BBNaija show is a platform for contestants to expand and develop their talents; I believe they have something unique to showcase themselves.

“Basically they should market themselves in the house to the global viewers,’’ Miyonse said.

“Whatever they are going to do, should be in such a way that when they are out of the house, they would be able to pick up from where they started.

On his expectations from the show, Miyonse said that whatever shortcomings the show had previously, the organisers would improve on it.

“I am positive they will improve on it this year, like the washing of pots and others; I wish all the 2018 BBNaija contestants best of luck,’’ he said.

NAN reports that auditions for the third edition were held last year in six locations across Nigeria.

Multichoice, owners of DSTV and GoTV had earlier announced Ebuka Obi-Uchendu as the host for the 2018 edition of the BBNaija reality TV show.

  • BBNaija’s ThinTallTony set to hold dance concert

BBNaija’s ThinTallTony set to hold dance concert

Former Big Brother Nigeria housemate, Anthony Effiong, popularly known as ThinTallTony says he is set to host a dance concert aimed at promoting the growth of dance.

Effiong made this known in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday.

He said that the concert, which is aimed at contributing to the growth of dance as a profession would hold on Oct. 8.

He said that the project was one of the few he had embarked on since he left the reality show, adding that he had also featured in a few movie productions.

Effiong, who recently starred in the movie ‘Celebrity Marriage’ alongside Tonto Dikeh and Jackie Appiah is also shooting two short films.

The dancer decried the way at which dancers in the country were relegated to the background.

“They are only used for music videos to dance; but as a profession it has not been fully embraced in Nigeria unlike other forms of entertainment.

“Musicians need dance to make their shows interesting, they need dancers also in their videos but we have been relegated so much to that role alone.

“We have not been given much recognition and are usually restricted to music videos and as backup dancers for musicians which is not done in other countries.

“This is because people tend to forget that dance is a genre on its own. We have a couple of dance concerts in Nigeria but they are not mainly about dance,’’ he said.

Effiong said he studied dance in Vienna, Austria through a UNESCO scholarship in 2005 and he had not been able to express his full potential, hence the need for the concert.

He said that although he had had two dance productions, he still wanted to do more, considering the state of dance in the country.

“I have worked with choreographers who handled Madonna, Christiana Aguilera and others. There are lots of people in my archive.

“Coming back home, I am supposed to dance around a brand and express myself fully as a dancer.

“We want people to be able to see what we can do and commercialise us not just in music videos but as brands just like the actors.

“Dancers need to come out and show people what they can do so the younger ones out there can use that as a platform to ride.

“This is to show that we are not just social dancers and we can as well have a good show that people can pay, sit down and watch,” he said.

NAN reports that ThinTallTony had lots of negative publicity immediately after he left the reality show due to his romantic involvements with fellow housemate Bisola Aiyeola because of his status as a married man.

Effiong said that he did not pay any attention to the negativity as human beings tend to use little negative events to wipe out all the good deeds of a person.
He also expressed his desire to try out reality television shows again, saying he loved healthy competition and was intrigued by the shows.

He advised future housemates to know what they would wanted to use the platform for before going into it.

According him, this will help them properly utilise the fame and not be left clueless when they get it.
